tutorial on how to make a switching bot using pluralkit

here's a demonstration:

1: create a new bot. In this case, the bot is named "Larry" and add brackets.

2: type the command: "pk;m Larry autoproxy off"

enjoy!

how it works: if latch is allowed on every other bot except "Larry", when you switch to Larry by using its brackets, latch will turn off, allowing you to seamlessly switch between using a bot and your own account. You don't even have to manually turn latch back on!

please reblog if you feel so inclined! As far as I know, I'm the only person who knows that you can do this, and I would much rather this be a widely-known "lifehack".

the process of making a clear, concise, and professional post on discord's feedback page is exhausting me so i'm just going to shout on tumblr and see if anyone else even agrees before i bother.

i am absolutely begging discord to give mute people the same courtesy of private conversation that speaking people are given. if two speaking people are in a call together, nobody knows what they're talking about. however when i'm in a call, 99.9% of the time, everyone and their goddamn grandmother can read my entire half of the conversation. you don't even have to be IN the channel to read it. you can intrude on every single mute persons conversations without it ever even being known.

i can't make genuine connections with people. as long as we are in a public server, i can't talk about things happening in my neighborhood with multi-year friends who i trust with knowing where i am because that information immediately becomes available to everyone in the server the second i post it. it's infuriating but it's also deeply depressing.

i'm ND, i have chronic pain, and i have a smörgåsbord of mental health issues. i don't go anywhere. discord calls are my socialization, and for a lot of my discord friends, they're in the same or a similar situation. the difference between me and them is that they get both the spontaneity of being in a public server where they are able to meet new people and make new friends, AND the security of their discussions being private until someone joins to listen in. i-- and other mute or selectively mute individuals-- get one or the other. either private server and type freely, or public server and only be able to make surface level connections unless you want 300 people to be able to read your life story without ever once talking to you.

so what's the answer? i don't know. my single semester of intro to python isn't enough for me to understand the logistics of something like a temporary chat, almost snapchat-esque. but i think considering a VC text chat option that requires you to actively be in the call to read it might be a good start.

The majority of the people I see sharing the sentiment are young, or, they are people who are clearly not in the punk scene. Sorry! Gonna have to call you out a little bit, but you know what? Calling people out? Especially posers? Is a time-honored tradition in our community, so, get used to it!

Anti-Swas is not as commonly misunderstood to be something that came into the scene to show Jewish punks that they're safe. It came into the scene to show white "mm" (representing redaction of supremacist) and Neo-"mm" (Nazis) that they are not safe in that crowd, in that group, in that event. That is why it's worn. And the people who wear that symbology, in my scene, historically, they wear it because they are about that. Meaning that they are going to enforce. That those individuals are not welcome.

I am a punk of Jewish heritage, I wear the symbols. The Anti-Swas. I have a shirt with a huge one on the front, I love wearing it. Patches, buttons, I love it. It makes me feel proud and happy. So let me tell you if you come at me and you rip a patch off of me, or a button off of me, with that symbology I am immediately going to assume that you are a white "mm" or a Neo-"mm" and I'm gonna hand your butt to you. Very quickly. And as hard as possible. I am going to focus all of my rage on that entire subgroup onto your face. So im gonna have to break it to you to break it to you! And also if you do it with a seam ripper which is like, the fuck? A seam ripper? Don't come to a scene with a seam ripper, that is so bizarre, you can't even rip a patch off with your bare hands? And you bring a seam ripper- (laughing). But anyways, when I realize it's a seam ripper and not a small weapon, I'm going to mock you mercilessly as I beat you.

White "mm" and Neo-"mm" would like nothing more than for us to get rid of that symbology. 'Cause then they blend in better. And then they can say that they're welcome. Or they can argue that. And we don't like leaving room for them to argue. Not in my scene. Also, getting rid of the Anti-Swas symbology is a little ableist, don't you think? A lot of white "mm" and Neo-"mm" can't read. i understand why people dont agree or feel comfortable with anti swastika patches, but i want to allow this jewish person to say their opinion on the matter. They personally like it and think its effective at keeping nazi fucks out of the scene and are very proud to wear it out

My message on Discord's new UI

"I have visual snow syndrome, a symptom of visual snow syndrome is that white text on a very dark background can cause afterimages. You know screen burn? Imagine screen burn in your eyes, where whatever you were looking at is stuck there for up to an hour. Light mode is physically painful and dark mode is disabling. Your new changes are an accessibility nightmare and have made the app fully unusable for me. And that's not even mentioning the fact that a lot of the changes you made to the app are absolutely awful, convoluted and just plain stupid for ease of use. I know companies love to pull the "well we know every single tester has hated it, but we spent a lot of money redesigning it so we're doing it anyway!" card. But this isn't the logo, this isn't the blue, this isn't minor changes you'll stop noticing after a while. This is a huge overhaul that is again AN ACCESSIBILITY NIGHTMARE! Cut your losses and listen to your audience because I'm seeing a lot of people posting API alternatives to Discord in other servers and Reddit. People will not be using your app. Do better. Discord mobile is fully unusable to me until you make changes, I physically cannot look at the text anymore. Please fix it and do the smart thing."

I downloaded the last APK file for Discord before the change, but this is genuinely disheartening. Discord is actively refusing to even read genuine complaints, telling people 'Well this is how it is now'. Much like Tumblr.

Please send feedback on the Discord app as well as on the store pages! Please let them know this isn't the same as just changing the icon or the colour of their blue. This is an actual accessibility issue!

I will admit though, the ONE good thing about the change is the new Media feature while searching chats, but it's completely overshadowed by everything else and the lack of pages (only infinite scroll) makes it difficult to find things.

Hi! I'm autistic, and Discord's latest mobile update is total and utter dogshit. They made it objectively less usable for no discernible reason. I'm here to help you fix that, and revert to the last update.

Disclaimer: I'm on Android, so these instructions are for Android only. If you're on IOS, I know there is a way to do it, but I'm not going to post instructions I haven't tested.

1. **UNINSTALL DISCORD.** This will not work if any user on your phone (probably only one unless you're into more technical stuff than even I am) has a more recent version installed.

2. Disable automatic app updates. If you're doing this, I expect you to already know how this works.

3. Download the APKMirror Installer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apkmirror.helper.prod&hl=en_US). It will require you to watch an ad when you install the APK, but you can uninstall it after you're done.

4. Download this APK, it's the latest pre-update Discord distribution: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SSWdpi0Ms7wyHgDSSRqZgY4_G6r_wA0X/view?usp=drivesdk).

5. Use the APKMirror app to install the APK.

6. You're done! Launch it and log in. Feel free to uninstall APKMirror Installer and delete the APK file from your storage at this point, as you will not need them.

If you want to re-enable auto-updates for other things, follow these instructions in the app store:

- Enable aeroplane mode.

- Re-enable auto-updates of your choice (usually WiFi only).

- Navigate to the Discord app's settings in the app store.

- Disable Discord app's auto-update check box.

- Turn off aeroplane mode.

That's about it! Don't forget to leave them a negative review. If we can get a reversion of this update, that's the best outcome. Stay beautiful people.
