Comparing Haymitch and Katniss' narrative styles is so funny to me because he's a yapper and she's a gatekeeper. He drops more lore on D12 in the first two chapters of SOTR than she does in the entire trilogy.
Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."
And Katniss is over here like "Tf do I care for if y'all know all the lore of District 12? I'm talking about my beautiful husband's beautiful eyelashes."

been seeing all these posts about how haymitch and katniss have different ways of narrating the story. basically katniss, bless her heart, just says the bare minimum of what she can remember about maybe a physical description whereas haymitch knows their physicality and then the whole family lore too. made me realise that if I ever wanted to know the tea I'd go to my girl haymitch, the gossip queen.

The capital leaving Haymitch with that scar feels so personal because we know from Katniss that they can heal the majority of scars, even old ones, and erase them from the skin. It feels like a permanent reminder that his life is in Snow’s hands
It also makes me wonder if perhaps the Capital could have saved Peeta’s leg, given that we don’t know to what extent their medicine has progressed, but that they chose not to as another personal reminder
And just how many victors have been left scarred or disabled for that very reason?

it's REALLY interesting to me that, once the Capitol decided tributes needed assigned outfits rather than bringing in their own clothes or having an identity of their own outside of "district tribute" - the color assigned to District 12 was "Black" (and, yes, this could be as simple as "12 is the last district and black is frequently the 'last color' in color order") but it's still really interesting to me that Lucy Gray enchanted the capitol with her dress and her color. That, even with the memory of Lucy Gray locked in Capitol archives, the Capitol we see is known for it's color. Their outfits. Their hair. Their skin. Their pastel buildings. There was clearly some sort of cultural shift at the Capitol that Lucy Gray may well have been the inspiration for. it feels almost like a punishment, in a way, to assign the ABSENCE of color to a district whose first victor was from the Covey, a people known for their colorful names, colorful art, colorful clothes, colorful music.

seeing a lot of talk about everyone wanting 70s/80s fashion for everybody in the sotr movie but one thing i think y'all have to consider is the fact that in district 12 fashion moves muuuuch slower.
yes, tbosas was influenced by silhouettes of the 40s and 50s (which i love and i think it will always remain my favorite hunger games costumes) but when you think back to the districts it's much more location-inspired still and looks very similar to the way the district people dress in the original trilogy. the capitol fashion is what changes and evolves at the speed of light, because it's reflective of the real world, people who can afford to trend-hop are the ones who dress in the most current styles. but the covey, the kids from the seam, etc., they have their own distinct timeless sense of style. the most 40s-esque d12 style i can think of in tbosas is mayfair's outfits, especially her reaping day outfit- and even then, it's actually more 1930s than 40s in a way, showing that even though she's possibly the richest girl in town, district 12 as a whole is still poor and behind on the trends.
so i hate to burst everybody's bubble with their dreams of lenore dove and haymitch in 80s mall kid outfits but you gotta remember the economic disparity in panem. but at least we'll probably see drusilla in some incredible anne klein working woman 80s inspired getup !

you know what SOTR also calls out? (Spoilers🚨)
Louella, a little brown Seam girl from District 12, is replaced with a tortured nameless little Brown girl from District 11.
To the Capitol, one Brown girl is the same as any other.
To white media, one brown person being included is a success, is the same as any other
To their families, their communities, the people who know them— the difference is obvious and immediate.
We are not replaceable.
this has been another tea time with Hawk ☕️🦅

I like to think that the Districts didn’t stay the “Districts” after the war. They took a vote and chose a new name for themselves.

The way that Haymitch talks about food in Sunrise on the Reaping vs the way that Katniss talks about it in The Hunger Games leads me to believe that District 12 got even more starved out after Haymitch’s games. His family is obviously poor, but they still do things like make a cake once a year and buy cheap candy on occasions. Katniss talks about never being able to afford sweets and getting an orange as a special present one time. And her family was better off than most in the Seam. That difference definitely feels like an implication that money and food got even tighter in 12 after Haymitch came home from the Quarter Quell.

For the record nobody asked, however upon watching some of the Hunger Games movies recently, I believe that our society's version of Caesar Flickerman is Ryan Seacrest.

When Snow first meets Maude Ivory in tbosbas he gives her a bag of candy as a kind gesture, then forty years later, Snow uses a bag of poisoned candy to murder Maude Ivory's one and only daughter and one of the last covey women. im unwell.
