Recycle Jeans: Transforming Old Denim into New fabric
In this post, you will learn how to recycle jeans.
Denim, the classic fabric that captures the essence of resilience and adaptability, often finds itself relegated to the back of the closet as trends shift and sizes change. However, the journey doesn’t end there. With a bit of creativity and some basic tools, you can recycle jeans and breathe new life into this robust material, repurposing it…
This is my first vest and I wanted something unique, so I made this skull using textile paint and added a ribbon which I laced through some safety pins (inspired by corset piercings)
While I was painting there was also a little moth on my window so in honour of that I also added a tiny moth next to the skull. They're friends :)
Front+back of my battle vest (if you can call it that)
Many people would put studs or spikes here, but I don’t have that so I’m putting metal beads and soda can tabs!
A patch my mom gave me and a charm from a Frozen necklace from like, a loooooong ass time ago lawls.
Trans flag patch that I knitted (messy af)
Aaaahhhh I love this patch so much because one of my friends made it for me, finally got it sewed on yesterday! Also “keep running” because I got bored in class and wrote random crap all over it.
The first measure of Welcome To The Black Parade.
Into the woods because what else would I put there? I am bored in class writing random crap on my jacket, what is another logical explanation?
March on, killjoy. I’ll probably put a patch over this one, tho.
Against me!
Zip-off sleeve. I did this yesterday, gonna do the other arm today.
Visible mending+random keychain I got at an art fair.
that’s about it for now, I would have more political stuff/slogans but I live with my parents and idk what they would think.
Tried my hand at mending a massive rip in my favorite shorts recently and I love how it's turning out even though I'm 100% winging it with scrap denim and embroidery thread.
It's my first real sewing project and I wouldn't have tried it without your blog so thank you for helping me to finally find a use for those 6 pairs of worn out jeans I was keeping for some reason :)
[ID: two close-ups of a light coloured pair of denim shorts that's been mended with red, yellow, blue, pink, and white embroidery thread.]
That looks lovely! Congrats on your first mend!
Remember to wash your shorts in a gentle way to make your mend last as long as possible.
i dont really consider myself to be punk or grunge or goth or whatever. just a vague alternative soup. but ive never felt myself more comfortable or fitting into subculture than when i started realizing i did not have to spend a ton of money to 'look the part.'
a good 85% of my wardrobe is shit i got at thrift stores. i've started making my own jewelry. the base of my battle jacket (a sturdy, oversized denim jacket) i got for free cuz it was (accidentally) stolen. the only time i really shell out any decent money is for good shoes and handmade patches/jewelry from people on etsy.
diy can take time and resources but i guarantee the stuff you make will look far more "punk" than any pre-patched $200 jacket you buy on torrid. also its fun.
