VOTE JAKAPIL FOR DINOSAUR MARCH MADNESS
@a-dinosaur-a-day
No other contestant in the final four is such A Creature™️ the way that Jakapil is. Jakapil is simultaneously the ultimate being to exist from the perspective of a dinosaur-obsessed child and a fascinating, paradigm-shifting paleontological enigma. Literally the perfect dinosaur, what more could you want
Why vote for Jakapil?
the most likely scenario here is that this guy represents a hundred million year old ghost lineage of basal thyreophorans that we’ve never discovered before. The less likely scenarios are bipedal armored ceratopsian or a completely new kind of ornithsician, both of which have been genuinely considered by some paleontologists! Whatever the case, Jakapil represents a brand new, never-before seen lineage of dinosaurs unlike anything we’ve ever known before, and that’s SO COOL
Aesthetically, this is a bipedal armored dinosaur with tiny abelisaur-grade arms, estimated to be less than 5 ft long and 15 lb (or 1.5 m and 7 kg max). Literally perfect. I’m really bad at visualizing measurements but I’m pretty sure you could pick it up and hold it in your arms if you tried. Sure you could do that with Heracles or Caihong, but you don’t need a Time Machine to pick up parrots and shiny bird things - there’s nothing like Jakapil for you to hold and snuggle today
They’re so friggin weird. It’s got jaws like a ceratopsian or a heterodontosaur, a jaw bone that no other basal thyreophorans have, arm anatomy shockingly similar to abelisaurs, and THEY CAN CHEW. I know that chewing seems really normal to us humans but it’s so weird to see outside of mammals. Practically the only other dinosaurs that chew are ornithopods. Jakapil seems like it’s trying to be as many kinds of dinosaur as possible, which further supports my statement that it is the Ultimate Dinosaur
It’s armored and covered in spikes. ‘Nuff said
Also a friendly reminder that the only other known bipedal thyreophoran is Scutellosaurus, which was from Early Jurassic Europe. Jakapil is from late Cretaceous South America, so this guy just popped up across the world a hundred million years later with practically no trace of its ancestors. How did this happen? What the fuck were its ancestors doing in that time? Heracles may have given us neat answers to New Zealand-y questions, but Jakapil gave us questions we didn’t even know needed to be asked
I’ve said it once and I’ve said it again, South America’s fauna has been friggin' amazing since the Cretaceous and never stopped. Automatic points for being a South American dinosaur. This guy lived alongside Giganotosaurus and Buitreraptor!!
What about the other contestants, you may ask? Kholumolumo is only here for the meme. Outside of the funny name and it’s absurdly convoluted history to getting formally named, what do you actually know about it? How much does it contribute to our understanding of dinosaurs compared to the other contestants?
Caihong is basic. I’m sorry but I won’t back down from this (for another few months at least). I love dromaeosaurs as much as the next person, but literally all that Caihong has going for it is it’s ultra-inridescence. Any other Chinese dromaeosaur could provide the rest. Look past your instinctual love of shiny things and vote for something that breaks away from everything we thought we knew to become something truly unique!
As for Heracles... I actually have nothing bad to say about Heracles, I love New Zealand's fauna and giant flightless birds (especially on islands). But while I love Heracles for everything it stands for, I feel like Jakapil stands for so much more. Heracles is a wonderful addition to our knowledge of it's lineage and environment, but also... is it really that surprising to find a giant flightless bird in New Zealand that belongs to that a family endemic to New Zealand? Jakapil is just such a bizarre, fascinating, unexpected discovery from so many perspectives. It is truly the ultimate dinosaur, and we should honor it as such
As of the time of writing there's still four days left at the polls and Jakapil is a steady second place in all three of them. We still have time to win this for Jakapil and dethrone Caihong!

Vote for Annakacygna!
First off, it's a weird and enormous swan, which is pretty cool on its own, but more importantly, Vorombe is sadly not in the spirit of Dinosaur March Madness: Rising Stars. When it was most likely its own genus, Vorombe would have been a worthy contender, but given the paper indicating it may not be distinct from Aepyornis, this is no longer the case. This year's contest is meant to celebrate recent discoveries, and while a new and informative fossil of a preexisting bird is exciting, it just wouldn't be right for that to win the bird bracket over something truly distinct. I'd hate to have the top bird (or even DMM winner) need to have an asterisk by its name. I have hope that Heracles or Cryptogyps has a chance to defeat Vorombe in the next round, but it's not a guarantee. This is a humble request to consider this factor if you haven't already voted this round.
P.S.: If your reason to vote for Vorombe is that it reminds you of Harambe, I'm sorry, but I don't care for that joke in general and it's hardly a reason for a DMM vote

(FOX008LP) ALFI KABILJO - YU AEROBIC (ORIGINAL WORKOUT MUSIC FROM YUGOSLAVIA 1981-1984) LP
★ Unreleased instrumental versions from the original master tapes ★ Vinyl Gatefold LP ★ Liner Notes ★ Limited Edition ★ Exclusive full color design by Dejan Krsic (NEP) ★ Includes socialist era workout graphics ★ DMM cut by Pauler Acoustics ★ Mastering by Antony Ryan (RedRedPaw) ★ Limited edition of 300 ★ No repress ★
★ Unreleased instrumental versions from the original master tapes. ★ A collection of 1980's music for aerobics and fitness craze in Yugoslavia inspired by Jane Fonda ★
The phenomena of exercise tapes and albums started officially in Yugoslavia in 1983, Jane Fonda’s book was heavily promoted and published in local edition. Famous actress Milena Dravić released Aerobika Sa Milenom Dravić cassette for RTV Ljubljana and Sarajevo choreographer Gordana Magaš released Aerobik Ples: Pokrenimo se malo!. They were classical instructional tapes with voice-over and international disco or chart hits in the playlist. But Vesna Mimica, who perfected her art with Sylvie Vartan in Paris and Alfi Kabiljo, famous Croatian composer, had more original and serious take on fitness albums in the same year. Cassettes YU Aerobic Br.1 and YU Aerobic Br.2 were released as a series divided in sections (first one for beginners, the other for the advanced users) and much more importantly, they did not use international cover songs, but used conceptual and original music, intentionally made for fitness and aerobics. Backed up by Jugoton label, the largest and most influential in country, the tapes sold extremely well, making Vesna Mimica a star and a synonym for modern dance, aerobics and fitness. The press called her “our Jane Fonda” and she wore that feminist and activist badge with pride and vigour, making her Dance Studio VEM active in years to come, while also building her respective career in journalism, specializing in performing arts and culture.
But the musical genius behind Vesna Mimica’s Aerobics series was Alfi Kabiljo, already a successful composer (also a conductor, arranger, piano player, lyrics and libretto writer and producer) in the variety of genres in Yugoslavia and all over the world. He has recorded in Barcelona, Vienna, London (Pinewood and Twickenham), Los Angeles (Hollywood), Ljubljana, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo and most of all in Zagreb. He has written the music for more than 30 feature films and over a hundred television episodes. Numerous popular songs and chansons have been recorded worldwide, he has taken part in and won prizes at popular music festivals at home and abroad, including Zagreb, Split and Opatija, then Rio de Janeiro, Tel Aviv, Malta, Seoul, Palma de Mallorca, Cairo, Athens, Caracas, Mexico City and much more. His lesser known passion is for applied and library music. The Vesna Mimica tapes were a bold and unusual step in his career: that kind of applied music was usually hidden in biographies of other composers. They probably considered it artistically irrelevant due to a predefined use, but Alfi Kabiljo never agreed on that, he treated all of his compositions with the same pride.
Fox & His Friends Records team is on the same path: all music should be in an equal opportunity for the aesthetic judgement and should not be forgotten for its back story, purpose or use. The rise of library music appreciation in recent years shows that we are right and more and more hidden gems are being re-discovered and re-evaluated. Such are the selections from the surviving studio masters from the Aerobics era, which we chose to present in their original form without the instructional dubbing and voice-over. That does not mean we do not like Vesna Mimica’s sporty fitness lines (we do!), but in this instrumental form, which was never released and aired publicly, Alfi Kabiljo’s precise jazz and disco mixture of melodies and beats turns out to be still fresh and dance friendly. You can enjoy this rare treat even more and be your own Vesna Mimica while exercising to it. So, just work it left, right, left, right, left, right and breeeathe...

Movie Touken Ranbu - Novel Prologue
Since today was the release day for Touken Ranbu - The Movie on DMM I though about doing someting as well…although it’s not really much. Under the cut you will find the prologue for the novel. I did this some time ago, but I wasn’t sure if to post it or not. But since today we had movie, here I come as well. Enjoy^^
Prologue
A story told by the objects involved. This is yet another story of the Sword Boys from a certain citadel.
2nd of June in the 10th year of the Tensho era – or in our current calendar 1st of July 1582. The dawn.
Despite the fact that it was the rainy season, the sky was clear and the stars began to disappear as the first rays of sun approached. A quiet day was about to start…or so it should have been.
Kyo – Honnou Temple
Inside the chambers in the temple grounds, in a single-room building that was called “the palace”, Oda Nobunaga opened his eyes all of a sudden. As he did so, the sound of guns, swords and soldier shouting resound in the distance.
Getting up while still wearing only his white short-sleeved sleep-wear, he pushed the sliding doors aside.
The smoke flew inside. He saw how the flames were rising from many buildings such as the stables or the kitchen.
The Honnou temple was not only a temple, but it was also an establishment that offers him shelter when he was on his way to the capital. Including the maids, this time he only had a hundred soldiers with him.
“What’s this…!”
Thought Nobunaga while catching his breath.
Putting his clothes in order, the page Mori Ranmaru, was running on the wooden veranda that was facing the garden. He kneeled before Nobunaga.
“Master!”
“What’s going on?”
“Akechi Hyuuga no Kami started a rebellion!”
Nobunaga started in the direction from which a great noise could be heard.

End-of-Year Butai/Musical Ask
So, I was tagged by @allyyyyy0619, so let’s answer some questions. Honestly, I spend a lot more time on answering these questions than I should have!
Firstly, how did you manage to find out about 2.5D butai/musical? Which butai/musical was your first and your impression of it?
In all honestly, I have trouble remembering, but… I think the very first musical I watched was Rock Musical Bleach. And I don’t mean the 2016 version, I’m talking about the musicals that were in the theater over 10 years ago! I probably stumbled upon it somewhere on youtube. I absolutely loved Bleach around that time, so… yeah, let’s just blame youtube. The first couple Bleach musicals weren’t the best, but for whatever reason I still got hooked on it. Then, since the cast of the original Bleach run is more or less identical to the first Seigaku cast, I discovered Tenimyu… despite a previous negative experience with the anime, I decided to give the musicals a try.
This is actually a funny story, I wonder If I ever told anyone about this. The whole reason I learned about the Prince of Tennis anime series is… BECAUSE I COULDN’T REMEMBER THE NAME OF AN AMERICAN TV SHOW PROPERLY! My friend was hooked on some show and I was planning to watch it too and tried to find it online. At this moment I’m still unsure what show I tried to find, but I happened to be looking for “Prince of Tenis”… Anyway, I watched the first episode, didn’t like it and dropped the series.
The Prince of Tennis musicals really quickly grew on me though, so I gave the anime another try later. I concluded the first episode was just crap and the rest of the series was rather awesome!
And that’s how I ended up in the world of 2.5D and couldn’t leave anymore… at least, that’s how I remember it…
Who was your first favourite 2.5D actor/actress? Why?
Um, Nagayama Takashi I suppose? I really like(d) Hitsugaya as a character, so the moment I started watching the musical I was already biased towards him, but also really did a good job! Then, Kikumaru also basically became my favorite Tenipuri character, so… Nagayama Takashi it is!
And probably Kimeru, because Fuji was my second favorite Tenipuri character and god, that guy knows how to sing! Although I can’t actually call myself a fan of either anymore, I’m always happy to see Kimeru on stage. His voice is still as amazing as ever!
However, if we start talking about the first actor I actually liked enough to start buying merchandise it was probably Aiba Hiroki? (I’m not sure why, I just liked him…) Then came Furukawa Yuta (I loved his voice!) and after that Sasaki Yoshihide (he can sing, he can dance, he’s adorable!) …all of this happened quite a long time ago. While it’s a bit harder (let’s say, impossible) to say for the others, I can still remember the exact moment I completely fell for Sasaki Yoshihide… (Have I ever told that story?)
Top 3 (or more) favourite butai of the year?
Wait, you’re expecting me to remember everything I’ve seen this year? And even rank them? Um, let me just list down a couple of plays I remember watching this year and enjoying!
So, in no particular order: Stage Play Touken Ranbu (Moeyuru Honnouji Saien, Akatsuki no Dokuganryu, Kono Yora no Odawara), Rengoku ni Warau, Noragami (Kami to Negai), Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau, Present5 (All), CHaCK-UP (+ Episode.0), Yowamushi pedal (Everything up to “The Winner”), Live Spectacle Naruto (2015/2016), Tokyo Ghoul (2017), Ensemble stars (on Stage / Judge of Knights).
(Note: this is not a complete list of everything I’ve seen. It’s a list of plays I remember thoroughly enjoying. Not saying I didn’t enjoy those other plays, just saying I enjoyed these more in comparison.)
All right, let me attempt a bit of a ranking.
1) Stage Play Touken Ranbu -Moeyuru Honnouji- (Saien)
Shiina Taizo made me fall in love with Fudo Yukimitsu. You can say whatever you want, but having Fudo/Taizo in this play is probably the reason I’m ranking it first. Well, I guess it’s actually the entire cast & staff that earned this play a No.1 spot. (I probably prefer (the cast of) the original run btw.)
2) Stage Play Touken Ranbu - Akatsuki no Dokuganryu-
And this play comes at No.2, because I can still remember how extremely excited I felt when I left the theater after watching it. This play was great! The Date swords kind of grew on me, and my love for Yamanbagiri and Sayo only deepened!
3) Stage Play Touken Ranbu -Kono Yora no Odawara-
Can I list this? I know it’s super short, but… the story was just super cute! I’m totally in love with Sayo and Yamanbagiri and having them and Hasebe being the focus of the story just…! These boys are too amazing!
4) CHaCK-UP (Episode.0)
I’m not entirely sure why I’m putting this on No.4, but it probably has something to do with the absolute ridiculousness of this play. (This is a play, right?) I haven’t quite seen all of this “series”, but I’ve seen enough to think it’s absolutely hilarious. Whenever I have money available, I guess I’ll check out what else DMM has available for rent…
5) Rengoku ni Warau / Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau
No.5 is a tie. Both series are up here, because these plays did give me an urge to actually look into the series behind them. Currently gathering all the Rengoku ni Warau manga volumes & following the Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau anime series. And yes, the plays were pretty great too!
Top 3 (or more) least favourite butai of the year?
No ranking, but since I feel like I have to name some, I’d say Patalliro and Rusted Armors.
Patalliro is a great play, absolutely! But I’m not familiar enough with the series to be super excited about it, nor did it give me the urge to look into the series. (And yet I did enjoy it enough to accept a friend’s request to subtitle it.)
Rusted Armor was pretty good too, I loved the costumes & acting! It’s just, I still have trouble understanding the story (I watched it when I was super tired, so I missed half of what was going on), hence it’s among my least favorites of this year. Once I find some time to watch it again and possibly understand the story better, its rank might change. Really, what I mostly remember is Teruma’s ridiculous outfit, yet amazing vocals! Wait, they were all singing…? Why the heck do they call this a stage play! It’s a fricking musical!
Top 3 (or more) favourite musical of the year?
Did I mention I’m terrible at rankings? So, again… some musical I enjoyed in no particular order: Ultra Musical Bakumatsu Rock (Kurofune Raiko, Climax live), Musical Touken Ranbu (Mihotose no Komoriuta, Tsuwamonodomo ga yume no ato, Shinken Ranbu Sai 2017), Rock Musical Bleach 2016, Namashitsuji (Noah’s Arc Circus), Datsugoku Kageki Nanabaka, Saiyuki Kagekiden (Burial, Reload) , Tenimyu (Hyotei Team Live, Dream Live 2017, Seigaku/Rokkaku Team Party)
(Note: this is not a complete list of everything I’ve seen. It’s a list of musicals I remember thoroughly enjoying. Not saying I didn’t enjoy those other musicals, just saying I enjoyed these more in comparison.)
Good, and if I attempt a ranking:
1) Musical Touken Ranbu -Mihotose no Komoriuta-
First I had some doubts about this cast, so many unfamiliar names and characters I hardly know, but god… I fell in love with all these guys! Watching it in the theater was just absolutely amazing! Yes, I think Team Mihotose may be my favorite at this moment! The character dynamics are just really great. (Thank you Mokkun/Sengo Muramasa!)
2) …
Good, this isn’t working! I can’t seem to rank the musicals!
Top 3 (or more) least favourite musical of the year?
Yeah, a ranking is not happening… If I have to call out some musicals as my least favorite of this year, it would be Live Spectacle Naruto -Akatsuki no shirabe- and Musical Hakuoki -Sano-hen- at this moment.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Live Spectacle Naruto! Unfortunately, from my seat in the theater most of the projections didn’t line up, so I haven’t had a chance to enjoy this musical in it’s full glory. (I’m calling it a musical btw. Too many songs to call it a play!) And there is still the pacing of the play that slightly bothers me. But I really hope to watch it again some time. So, if anyone has the DVD or BD and is willing to share a rip with me… (Please?)
Musical Hakuoki -Sano-hen- is here, because no matter how much I love that cast, there is just something about the pacing or the way the story is told that doesn’t work for me. It’s not just this musical, I’ve had it with more of them. Somehow this musical series just doesn’t work for me, even though the cast is amazing. (I think I mentioned before sometime that I can only seem to enjoy Reimeiroku…)
Top 3 (or more) favourite actors/actress of the year?
Not another ranking! I’m terrible at rankings!
Sasaki Yoshihide
Yeah, after all this time I guess Hide is still my No.1
Sakiyama Tsubasa
This guys is too adorable! I love how he can be serious, but is super immature at the same time.
Aramaki Yoshihiko
He is too adorable (too)! How can a guy be that cute!?
Shiina Taizo / Suzuki Hiroki
I can’t chose, so I just put them down on a shared No.4. They are both just amazing!
Ota Motohiro
His Sengo Muramasa was probably my favorite thing of this year! He went beyond all my expectations of what Sengo could be!
Top 3 (or more) rookie actors/rising actors whom you’ve high hopes for in the future?
Um, I honestly don’t know who we would still call rookie actors and who aren’t. Really, pretty much any actor that wasn’t part of Tenimyu season one still counts as a rookie for me… So, I’ll just be listing a couple actors I hope to see more of in the future…
Sato Ryuji
All right, he’s like super popular already, I know. But his rise in fame went pretty quick. I’m really interested to see if he can keep this up or not. Of course, I hope he’ll do good!
Sakiyama Tsubasa
After taking on the role of captain in Mihotose, his popularity appears to be on the rise too. Since I’ve come to like him quite a bit, I’m really interested to see what he can do from here on.
Ohira Shunya
Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I have this feeling that Shunya’s been improving incredibly in a short amount of time, especially in his vocals. And I really feel he’s gaining more and more popularity. Aside from that, I think he’s adorable, so yes, I hope he’ll keep rising and improving!
Aramaki Yoshihiko
This guy is too adorable and I hope he’ll be able to stick around for a while in the 2.5D business!
Top 3 (or more) favourite butai/musical related drama/movie of the year?
I very much feel like I haven’t really watched any related drama or movies…
Yowamushi Pedal drama (1st season)…? I think it may have been last year that I watched this one actually? Pretty much watched it, just because… Well, I guess I knew a couple of the actors in it… hadn’t seen the musicals yet.
So for this year, I’ve seen half of FIVE… pretty much started watching it, because everyone was talking about it (Well, about Sato Ryuji and Kuroba Mario being part of the cast), but then couldn’t find time to watch the second half…
And, I kind of started watching the anime of Sengoku Night Blood (ah, they’re turning it in a play, aren’t they?), because of some familiar names in the voice actor cast… aka, Sasaki Yoshihide, Kitamura Ryo and Aramaki Yoshihiko) I haven’t watched more than 2-3 episodes at this moment though, because storywise it’s not extremely captivating (yet)…
Um, yes… that wasn’t a top 3 or anything, just me randomly mentioning what I’ve seen…
Top 3 (or more) actors/actress that you think have the best singing voice?
Um, you’re asking for a top 3? I doubt I could give you a top 10! There are many, many amazing singers to be found in the 2.5D world! So, I’m just randomly going to throw out some names here, all right?
Itokawa Yojiro, holy shit that guy just blew me away with his vocal performance during the Bakumatsu Rock climax live!
Kimeru, he’s been doing amazing ever since Tenimyu.
Spi, all I’ve heard him sing in Toumyu was flawless! This guy’s voice is incredible!
Teruma, recently I noticed how amazing he has become! Really!
Sasaki Yoshihide, he isn’t always quite flawless, but I’m biased! And he does have an amazing voice!
Ogoe Yuki, he’s good! He’s really good!
Sato Ryuji, he’s good and he’s still improving! He’s amazing!
Ohira Shunya, surpise!? No, this kid can really sing well if you feed him the right song!
Ota Motohiro, he’s not quite flawless, but I remember being quite impressed by his Mihotose no Komoriuta performance.
Sakiyama Tsubasa, yes, he’s not flawless on stage, but given the right song he sounds absolute
....
Yeah, shall I just stop here? Even though I could probably go on for a while…
A (or more) butai/musical that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?
I think that would be Present5. I took quite some effort to make it through the first play and it took me a long, long time to attempt watching the other plays. But, somehow these guys grew on my and I eventually really enjoyed watching all of them!
Top 3 (or more) anime/manga/game that you would love to see being adapted into a butai/musical in the future?
I’m very much afraid that I’m the type who starts looking up the original source after she’s seen the play… So, I’m a little out of materials I’d like to see adapted, since they are already adapted…
Top 3 (or more) favourite fandom on the year?
Musical Touken Ranbu
Stage Play Touken Ranbu
…
For this whole year I would say that Toumyu and Tousute are basically the only fandoms I’ve really been in. Yes, I’ve seen some Tenimyu, I’ve seen some Namashitsuji, I’ve seen a lot… but, I don’t really count myself as an active member of those fandoms, I’m just passing by… and moving on and sometimes coming back…
How long have you been in the 2.5D fandom?
I’ve been in the 2.5D fandom for nearly 10 years now… (I’ve been part of this fandom from since before we started calling it 2.5D! I think it was early 2008 that I fell down the rabbit hole…) Yes, that’s a really long time! First all the actors were nearly 10 years older than me, now they are suddenly 10 years younger than me! (I’m looking at you, Miura Hiroki! How are you that young!)
Never imagined all those years ago I’d become so obsessed with this I’d still be here after such a long time.
Lastly, what is your overall opinion of the 2.5D fandom so far?
After all these years I can say the 2.5D community is probably one of the most friendly and peaceful I’ve ever seen. This is possibly the case, since all the fights and wars take place in the tags of the source materials and don’t make their way into the 2.5D world. There are some occasional stir-ups, but… Yes, so many friendly people who are willing to share the goodies they have. I’m really happy to be part of this place…
I can however see how the community has changed over the years. When we started this fandom was basically a free for all. Since only the very few in Japan had access to the DVDs, once you uploaded something everyone could do with it what they wanted. There weren’t any rules (for as far as I remember) and barely any watermarks. But yes, with the 2.5D producers slowly turning their eyes outside Asia, I suppose it’s only a given that we thread with a little more caution now. After all, we want them to make it easier for us to watch all the goodness, not make it harder! (Come on, remove the region block from those online streaming services already! I don’t want to be stuck with a VPN forever!)
Anyway, I really hope this community will stay like this for many, many years to come!

Tanaka's Wright Staff management firm is supervising the project, and Kitty Entertainment is collaborating on the planning. Tokuma Shoten is collaborating on the production, and DMM Pictures is collaborating on producing with Shochiku and Production I.G.
The first season, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Kaikō (The New Thesis: Star-Crossed), will premiere next April as a 12-episode television series. The event screenings of the second "season," The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Seiran (The New Thesis: Stellar War), will then play in theaters, as three films of four episodes each, in 2019.
The Legend of the Galactic Heroes has a long life in the medium of anime. Originally created using the material from a set of novels, the 1988 anime consisted of 24 episodes and spawned a number of series afterward, as well as a number of movies to its name. The most recent incarnation of the long running franchise, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: The New Thesis, had an initial run of 12 episodes last year and is looking to return for a second "season", with three new movies releasing this fall.
Twitter User PKJD8I8 shared the first trailer as well as the release dates for all three films, which will be releasing each month beginning in September of this year, 2019:
“The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: The New Thesis - Stellar War" anime film series PV https://youtu.be/v9Jfw3wkH08
Part I: September 27th
Part II: October 25th
Part III: Novemer 29th
For those who haven't watched the series, the anime follows the war between the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. Think Mobile Suit Gundam but without the giant mech suits. Basically, the series focuses much more on spaceships and military tacticians attempting to outmaneuver their enemies in a life or death scenario out in the deepest reaches of space. Two military geniuses from each side take the stage as the series' protagonists, with both tending to realize that neither side is evil, simply "two good factions" with different ideas. Though to be fair, if you're looking for an antagonist, an "empire" is usually who you look to in most fiction.
For those unfamiliar with The Legend of the Galactic Heroes, the series was first created by Yoshiki Tanaka in 1982. Starting life as a series of science-fiction novels that follow Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li, two rivals rising in power on the opposite sides of an interstellar conflict far in the future. Most fans of the series will recognize it for its first anime series, which ran from 1988 to 1997, and for its many video game, manga, and OVA adaptations.
The novel series was licensed for an English language release by VIZ Media in 2015, and Sentai Filmworks released the anime series in the West in 2017. A new anime series, The Legend of the Galactic Heroes The New Thesis: Star-Crossed, released in April 2018, followed by a trilogy of films titled The Legend of the Galactic Heroes The New Thesis: Stellar War in in the fall of this year, 2019.
Are you a fan of The Legend of the Galactic Heroes? Will you be catching the three anime films that are dropping this fall?

ITS TIME
FOR
DINOSAUR MARCH MADNESS 2k23!!!!!!!!!!!!
Starting NEXT WEEK, we begin the ultimate competition:
DMM: RISING STARS
These are ALL dinosaurs that have been discovered in the past five years!!! New friends from old times!!! Including such new fan favorites as Bajadasaurus, Jakapil, Meraxes, and Anachronornis - and that's only four of them!
From the weird to the wonderful, these dinosaurs are here to indicate that just because they were found recently, doesn't mean that they aren't destined to become icons like the names we already know and love. Get ready to learn about some new paleontological excitement - and debate angrily over which ones are better ;)
Round One will go from March 1st through the 7th
Round Two will extend from March 8th through the 14th
Round Three will then go from the 15th to the 21st
Round Four from the 22nd to the 28th
And the FINAL FOUR SHOWDOWN (Ornithischian Vs Sauropodomorph vs Nonavian theropod vs Bird) will occur from March 29th through April 4th!
Thanks to the new tumblr poll feature, reconstructions and mini factfiles for each dinosaur will be on the post with the poll itself! No need to leave tumblr, no personal research, no google quizzes - just rapid learning and immediate voting!

Congratulations to Caihong juji, your Dinosaur March Madness Champion for 2023!!!
(Art by @i-draws-dinosaurs (Caihong, Jakapil), @otussketching (Heracles), @alphynix (Kholumolumo). Graphics by @i-draws-dinosaurs)
Well it’s been a wild month-and-a-third of competition, but Dinosaur March Madness 2023: Rising Stars has come to an end! Congratulations to our four finalists: Big Parrot, Meme Reboot, Spikey Creatur, and Gay. After a final brutal slugfest Caihong emerged as the victor by a significant margin, winning all three separate matches. Shockingly, the Queer Neurodivergent Web Site felt rather fond of the shiny fluffy rainbow colours dinosaur!
Caihong joins the hallowed halls of DMM winners past, alongside Corvus, Maiasaura, Halszkaraptor, and Amargasaurus, making it the third maniraptoran to claim the top spot! The people love a bird, is what we’re learning.
A huge thank you to the members of the ADAD team who pulled this all together with planning, researching, writing, arting, the whole lot! @zygodactylus, @raptorcivilization, @i-draws-dinosaurs, @otussketching, @albertonykus, everyone who’s put their time and effort into this project is an absolute legend.
And thank you so much to everyone who voted, made posts and debated in the notes!! It was absolutely wonderful to see how much people got into it especially after having taken A Bit of a hiatus, the enthusiasm that all of you have really makes the contest what it is!
That’s all for now, we hope y’all had a fun time and got to learn about some sick new dinosaurs! And coming up next year, of course, we’re leaving the dinosaurs behind... on our long-awaited trip... into the Permian

Round Three: Ambopteryx vs Caihong
Ambopteryx longibrachium
Artwork by Gabriel Ugueto, written by @i-draws-dinosaurs
Name meaning: Both wings with long arms
Time: 163 million years ago (Callovian stage of the Middle Jurassic)
Location: Haifanggou Formation, China
Look, evolution has done a lot of weird stuff to dinosaurs. It put penguins underwater, and did whatever the hall mamenchisaurid necks are, and game lambeosaurs a built-in face trumpet. But I would argue there is one group that represents dinosaur evolution at its most unhinged, and that is scansoropterygidae.
Scansoriopterygids were generally considered “weird little tree dinosaurs” in the 2000s, with long fingers to pick grubs out of bark or something. Then Yi qi swept along in 2015 and revealed that those long fingers were actually supporting membranous bat wings. With an extra bony rod (the “styliform element”) sticking out of the wrist to help support it, because well if you’re a dinosaur evolving bat wings why bother being normal about it after that? Although really, the dinosaurs did it first so bats actually have dinosaur wings.
Yi was sensational, but it was also extremely weird and completely unique. Even other scansoriopterygids didn’t have wing membranes, so the whole bat thing was a bit up in the air. Or not up in the air, as the case may be. But then along comes Ambopteryx, published in 2019, packing another set of skin wings, and the vindication of Yi is complete!
Ambopteryx preserves a styliform element and wing membrane, as well as a thick coat of feathers, and honestly out of a whole selection of dinosaurs I think these might be some of the most huggable in the lot. Obviously this whole wing membrane thing didn’t end up working out for them long term, but Ambopteryx is part of an incredible lineage that challenged what we thought was possible for dinosaurs!
Caihong juji
Artwork by @i-draws-dinosaurs, written by @i-draws-dinosaurs
Name meaning: Rainbow with big crest
Time: 161 million years old (Oxfordian stage of the Late Jurassic)
Location: Tiaojishan Formation, China
It’s always a special treat to hear the announcement of a dinosaur with known colours, because it gives the most direct impression of how truly stunning these animals would have been to witness in real life. And Caihong might just be the most spectacular of them all so far, described in 2018 from an immaculate full-body fossil that preserves detailed feathers! Caihong’s feathers are longer than some other floofy dinosaurs, and would have had the appearance of a luxurious mane along its neck. Not only that, the fossil preserves feather microstructures that in life would have made this dinosaur gloriously iridescent!
Now iridescent dinosaurs aren’t new, Microraptor has been decked out in fabulous starling-esque plumage for a while now, but Caihong absolutely takes it to the next level. Its whole body was covered in iridescent black, including the enormous tail, but the real star of the show are the platelet-like melanosomes found on the head, neck, and the base of the tail. Different from the usual iridescent melanosomes, the structure of these tiny organelles reflects brilliantly iridescent colours, like those on the heads of hummingbirds and particularly the bright purple feathers on the necks of the trumpeter family. Caihong would have put on an absolutely dazzling jewel-toned display in the treetops or on the forest floor of prehistoric China!

Suskityrannus vs Maip
Factfiles:
Suskityrannus hazelae
Artwork by Andrey Atuchin, written by @zygodactylus
Name Meaning: Hazel Wolfe’s Coyote Tyrant
Time: 92 million years ago (Turonian stage of the Late Cretaceous)
Location: Moreno Hill Formation, Zuni Basin, New Mexico
When you follow the progress of paleontology long enough, you start to see things that were previously left undescribed actually get names and the respect they deserve - whether its the “putative screamer” Anachronornis or the “Zuni Coelurosaur” Suskityrannus, you’re sure to get a nice moment and a sense of satisfaction from it. Suskityrannus has been well known for a while due to it being featured in both When Dinosaurs Roamed America as well as Planet Dinosaur. Thought at various times to be a basal Coelurosaur or Tyrannosauroid, its official description placed it somewhat derived within Tyrannosaurs, showcasing the evolution of the Tyrannosaur group as it transitioned from the smaller more speedy forms (like Suskityrannus) to the giant murder birds we know and love later in the Cretaceous. In fact, Suskityrannus lived in an ecosystem that highlighted its changing world, with many early representatives of the later iconic North American Cretaceous ecosystems showing up in early forms in Moreno Hill. Suskityrannus was about one meter tall and three meters long, and already had many adaptations known from later tyrannosaurs. In the forested coastal ecosystem at Moreno Hill, Suskityrannus would have been neighbors with Zuniceratops, Nothronychus, Jeyawati, ankylosaurs, fish, and turtles.
Maip macrothorax
Artwork by @i-draws-dinosaurs, written by @zygodactylus
Name Meaning: Long-chested Shadow of Death
Time: 72 to 66 million years ago (Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous)
Location: Chorrillo Formation, Patagonia, Argentina
Megaraptors, a group not even really understood a few decades ago, just keep having more and more interesting members added to this group - Maip, a recent addition known from many bones of the trunk and tail, help fill out more of this picture with remains not known from other Megaraptors, and als having the most complete Megaraptor skeleton known. Maip was also interesting in having a very long, thick torso, leading to its specific name. It probably reached 9 to 10 meters in length in life, making it the largest Megaraptor known (literally reaching carcharodontosaurid size), and it may indicate that megaraptors rose to high-level predator status as other top predators went extinct in the region. It had a respiratory system similar to modern birds, with unidirectional air flow, much like other Saurischian dinosaurs. Living in southernmost South America, Maip would have had to deal with a variety of harsh climates, and may have been covered in feathers in order to keep warm. In addition to mosasaurs, snakes, turtles, mammals, fish, and frogs, Maip lived with other dinosaurs such as Nullotitan, Kookne, Yatenavis, and Isasicursor.

Bannykus vs Ambopteryx
Factfiles:
Bannykus wulatensis
Artwork by @i-draws-dinosaurs, written by @i-draws-dinosaurs
Name meaning: Half claw from Wulatehouqi
Time: 113 to 100 million years ago (Albian stage of the Early Cretaceous)
Location: Bayin-Gobi Formation, Inner Mongolia, China
If there’s one group of dinosaurs that has most recently gained more fame among casual dinosaur fans it’s probably alvarezsauridae, elevated to stardom by the Mononykus that captured everyone’s hearts in Prehistoric Planet. The bizarre group of single-clawed maniraptorans has been studied for a while, but their evolutionary origins have fairly mysterious until recently. How did that whole giant thumb claw thing happen??
Published in 2018 alongside more basal alvarezsaur Xiyunykus, Bannykus helps to fill in a gap in that evolutionary pathway! More specifically, they help to fill in a 70 million year long gap between the primitive Late Jurassic Haplocheirus and the very end of the Cretaceous! Notably, Bannykus has a larger thumb claw that the rest of its claws, but the other fingers are at least partially functional instead of just nubbins. It’s a lot easier to see how the later alvarezsaurids got to where they are from here! Next time you lose your mind over the Mononykus from Prehistoric Planet (which I do at least weekly), say a thank you to the lil guy with slightly less weird hands. Thumbs up to Bannykus!

Round Two: Heracles vs Heliothraupis
Heracles inexpectatus
Artwork by @otussketching, written by @zygodactylus
Name Meaning: Unexpected Herculean Parrot
Time: 16 to 19 million years ago (Burdigalian stage of the Miocene epoch, Neogene period)
Location: St. Bathans Fauna, Bannockburn Formation, Aotearoa
Heracles was a truly alarmingly large parrot, related to modern day Kea, Kaka, and Kakapo, known from the fantastic avifauna of St Bathans. Standing more than two feet tall and weighing about fifteen pounds, this animal was much larger than any expected from the St Bathans fauna, which represented the initial colonization of Aotearoa (Zealandia) after it returned above sea level. Heracles is also the largest known species of parrot, ever. It was presumably flightless, though it is uncertain if it was nocturnal like its living relative the Kakapo. Its exact ecology is still uncertain, given the material known from Heracles is limited and its living relatives have very disparate ecologies, though it is possible it was omnivorous similar to the Kea and Kaka today. The St Bathans fauna lived in a freshwater lake system, in a subtropical emergent rainforest. Separated from land bridges, the fauna was dominated by birds, with early relatives of the Kiwi, New Zealand Wrens, Adzebills, and Wedge-Tailed eagles found in the fauna, as well as somewhat modern looking Moas. Smaller flamingos, large fruit pigeons, and a huge variety of geese and other waterfowl are known. In addition, frogs, tuataras, other lizards, crocodilians, turtles, and many different types of fish are known from this fascinating ecosystem.

Rarely do we get to talk about a newly discovered living species of bird, but this is one of those excellent times! This bird, a bright yellow tanager with a distinctive black stripe across its eye, was found in the Neotropics - specifically in the Yungas region. Given that Latin America has the largest number of bird species in the world, it makes a certain amount of sense that we may have missed some! First spotted in the nineties, it was properly identified and described over the course of the 2010s. The distinctive appearance of this tanager lead to it being nicknamed the “Kill Bill Tanager”, in reference to its similarity to Uma Thurman’s yellow jumpsuit outfit. Distinct in appearance and population from other tanagers, it was deemed not only a separate species, but an entirely separate genus. It is migratory, breeding in the northern Machariapo Valley and going down to the eastern Andes for the nonbreeding season. It lives in deciduous forests, and breeds in bamboo grasses. It is a loud and vocal bird, making distinctive songs and choruses that happen long after the dawn chorus of most other birds. As it lives in a fairly isolated region of these countries, its habitat is not particularly threatened at this time.
