Something that does bother me is that these new tools to generate text and images use, at least in the vague way that I understand them, pretty much the same kind of processes and strategies under the hood but the use cases seem very different.
For the vast majority of us, generating what I would call "workmanlike" text is far easier than generating "workmanlike" images. There's a reason that "Write a 100 page novel in a month" is a popular online challenge and "Draw a 100 page graphic novel in a month" is not.
So, it may be that the use case of "AI" text models is the generation of unexpected text, while the use case of "AI" image generation models is much more the generation of expected images which could not otherwise be easily generated by the user.
I don't know that I've even seen anybody try to use a text model to improve the wording of a phrase (And it's not clear that they could do so; current tools tend to produce very "middle of the road" work whether we're talking text or images).
The use case for text models that their creators are looking for seems to be in the realm of "AI assistants"; things like "summarize a long paper for me" or "Write an essay about X".
Contrarywise, you don't really say "Here's all the facts i know about X, put them together into a readable essay" partly because if you can do that clearly enough for a machine to understand you've already... kind of done the thing you are asking for.
Image generation use cases tend to be something more like, "I want a picture of my D&D character. I can already describe them through text, but I can't draw well enough to get a pic I like."
You aren't looking for the computer program to surprise you with novel information, but to take a description and produce an image that matches that description.
In Automatic1111, the workflow for something like that might involve moving a kind of skeleton around to get the pose of the figure, writing up the prompt, changing the prompt several times until the images generally match what you are expecting, then marking off parts of the image that you don't like and using a different model to regenerate those, until the image more or less looks like what you're after.
Honestly the whole process is a bit like trying to make art by teaching an elephant how to paint and then telling it what to paint, but I think that under current copyright law this suggests that images outputs should probably be copyrightable but that the case for text outputs is much weaker.
The process of producing a given image output from Automatic1111 strikes me as involving significantly more effort than is involved in some photography.

Chapter 19
...and Max had been drafted into the NFL.
This is such a random aside that's quickly thrown out there in the same way we'd say “I'm going to eat Mexican for dinner tonight.”
It's really, painfully clear that the author doesn't care about any of this. So I have to ask: why does she think that the readers are going to care, either?
We all ended up at a tattoo parlor and, after twenty minutes of begging Roni, we all went in and got matching tattoos. We decided on the Chinese symbol for friendship.
What they wanted: 友情
What the tattoo artist accidentally put on them: 湯
I looked over and there was Leo. He didn’t say anything he just looked at me with his brow furrowed. He started to open his mouth but I stopped him by putting my hand up.
"Don’t," he looked at me sadly. "I’m not going to do this, Leo. I care about you a lot but I won’t be ignored because you are upset. It’s not fair."
Is Leo saying this or is Chloe?
Bad writing is bad. If I was the author, I'd never want to show my face in public again.
"Her name is Glendaly Vazquez."
"The model?" I sat up straighter.
"Yeah, I know right. I couldn’t believe it. I have seen her so many times in my magazines and I got to meet her in person." Mina beamed.
"Wow," was all I could say. Glendaly is a very popular model, almost six foot tall, dark skin, long dark hair, deep brown eyes and absolutely gorgeous.
Again, this is kind of thrown out there with literally no build-up whatsoever and it's kind of like “Okay. What am I supposed to do with this info?”
At least I feel like this is going to be more relevant than Max's future NFL career... but not by much.
Glendaly is a very popular model, almost six foot tall, dark skin, long dark hair, deep brown eyes and absolutely gorgeous.
Chapter 19 summary: Some more time passes, and Mina and Chloe are getting ready to graduate. Leo is kind of upset to learn that Chloe's parents bought her and Roni tickets to vacation in Florida for two weeks for a graduation present (despite the fact that Roni graduated a year earlier). However, he's more upset that she's apparently “too busy” being in high school to visit him in Seattle, and now she's going to take off for Florida. They get into a huge fight over how he randomly thinks that she's going to hook up with a string of hot guys in Florida, but Chloe insists that she isn't like that.
This literally breaks them up. He refuses to see reason, and after they go to Florida, he refuses her calls and texts. They see each other exactly once when the girls get back, and it's so awkward.
Mina and Chloe settle into their lives in college in Seattle. But at this point, Chloe and Leo are pretty much officially broken up. A new character is randomly introduced... much like anybody outside of Mina, Roni, Chloe, and Leo, I'm going to go ahead and say that she isn't important.
Chloe gets upset when Mrs. Mackey calls to invite the girls home for the weekend. She says that Leo is bringing somebody home; despite the almost six month-long pause on their relationship, Chloe is devastated by this news. Mina goes home alone, and comes back with the news that her brother is in a relationship with a literal supermodel.
Chapter 20
"So, when is the big day?" I rolled my eyes.
Mina grabbed the invite again and looked. "Says that it’s in two weeks."
My eyes widened and I almost spit wine out my nose. "They are getting married in two weeks?" I choked out.
"What? No!" Mina looked at me with shock and amusement. "It’s the engagement party, Chloe."
JFC he didn't waste any time, did he?
I have to ask: did this relationship start before, during, or after Chloe's trip to Florida?
Sitting in my old room made it feel even more surreal that this was all going on right now.
It's a little strange that she's going to the engagement party. Beg off and do literally anything else that day.
I would. Like shove Leo and his fiancee into a volcano.
"I would say that he is in his late twenties, probably like twenty six or something." She shrugged.
Holy shit. If I had a problem with a 17/21 relationship, then an 18/26 is giving me a freaking aneurysm.
I say this as somebody who is in her 30's. The mental attitudes as well as the place these people are is too wide of a gap. I can't imagine wanting to date somebody 18 when I was 26.
(To put things into some measure of perspective, I was 3 years out from college, and finally starting to settle into my career at 26. At 18, I was freshly graduated from high school and starting to tread the waters of college.)
"It came for Chloe a few minutes ago," Judith turned to look at me. "I don’t know who delivers things this late at night or what kind of person sends things to someone this late."
"Oh. My. God." Roni spoke loudly. Mina and I rushed to Roni’s side. No one could speak.
In a large white box, lay at least a dozen deep purple, single stem orchids with, at least, a dozen deep blue peonies. The arrangement was huge and gorgeous, the scent that was penetrating all of our noses was exquisite. There was a cream colored note with gold-leaf trim.
Chloe,
It was a pleasure to ‘bump’ into you this evening.
Please join me for dinner tomorrow evening.
Domenico
He had also included a business card with his business number and a hand written number on the back.
Dude that's not romantic; that's fucking creepy.
I was an asshole for ignoring her for so long but I just couldn’t take being kept at arm’s length any longer. She acted like she wanted me yet continued to distance herself.
I don't have any sympathy for him when his own shitty actions pushed Chloe away.
(Also hard to have sympathy for him when he's engaged to a supermodel.)
"Hey, man," I pointed to the restaurant, "their tables are taken for the night."
He smiled. "I know. I took them."
Then he leaned down and helped a woman out of the car. Chloe.
JFC THIS ISN'T ROMANTIC, THIS IS FUCKING CREEPY. THIS IS LITERALLY THE FIRST DATE. I KNOW THAT HE'S RICH AND ALL, BUT STOP.
Then he leaned down and helped a woman out of the car. Chloe. Domenico waved and smiled quickly before wrapping an arm around her waist and leading her into the restaurant.
Domenico was with Chloe.
Chapter 20 summary: Chloe acts like everything is fine to hear the news about Leo moving on in record time. She goes with everybody into the town to Leo's engagement party, where she awkwardly greets the fiancee, and avoids Leo the rest of the party.
She meets a guy whose name is Domenico, who dances and flirts with her. When Chloe tells her friends his name, they're like “he's a multi-millionaire!” Domenico sends her flowers so late at night, and then immediately calls her the next morning to invite her out to dinner.
We then switch over to Leo's POV. He's jealous as fuck-all about Chloe clearly living her best life, and has a moment of wishing he hadn't fucked up with her so badly... yet doesn't seem to acknowledge that his own shitty behavior is what pushed her away. (And also doesn't acknowledge that he moved on too fast.) He, Mina, Roni, and his fiancee try to go into town to eat at an Italian restaurant, but the waiter tells them that somebody rented out the entire restaurant for one night. As they go to the car, they see another car pulling up. They want to watch as those people are kicked out too, but Leo apparently also knows Domenico. Leo sees red when he realizes that it's Chloe on his arm.

Avoiding Scams on Freelancing Sites
Hi there! I almost just got scammed today, and I’m going to take the LITTANY of red flags from this interaction and use it to teach you all about how to avoid scams.
I am not making very much money right now. I just lost one of the accounts I was writing for, so I am not not even making enough to pay my rent. So I am desperately looking for work. And, like many people desperately looking for work, my panicking subconscious is willing to see a red flag and brush it under the rug because
“I’m probably being paranoid.”
So, to all of my lovely artists, writers, editors, and other types of freelancers who are desperately looking for work, I would like to create a comprehensive list of things that you should NOT FUCKING IGNORE while looking for a job. Actually, the list will be formatted as things you should expect from your employer/interviewer and if these things are missing, get the fuck out of there.
1. Reputable Platforms
The first thing you should be expecting is to use reputable platforms. If you’re being asked for a virtual interview, you should expect your interviewer to invite you via Skype, Discord, (Maybe slack if they’re middle-aged), perhaps Whatsapp, or whatever website you’re using to find your job.
DO NOT go for interviews on Telegram. This app has been reported as very commonly being associated with scams. This is where my recent experience took place.
2. Willingness to Verify Legitimacy
The first thing you should do when being in contact with an interviewer or HR is ask them to verify their identity.
This may not be necessary if doing a video call with someone pictured on an official company website, receiving emails or texts from addresses/numbers that are listed on an official company website, or if the job you’re being interviewed for was applied to directly on the company website. In these cases, you are not likely to be scammed, as you’re working with verifiably information.
If you meet someone on Indeed, Fiverr, Upwork, or any other freelancing/job site, keep your contact within the website’s chat system, email system, or whatever. This is how you remain protected under the hiring site’s TOS/Legal whatever. If you get scammed because you took your hiring process elsewhere, they will not help you.
That being said, if you DO take your interview off the site, it should be somewhere reputable and you should ask for your interviewer to verify their identity before doing literally anything else. The best way to get them to verify their identity is to ask them to email or text you from an address or phone number listed clearly on the official company website, by asking them to show you their state ID and checking it for photoshop influence, or by asking to do a video call for the interview and seeing for yourself that you’re being interviewed by someone who is pictured on the official company website as an employee.
3. Clear and Professional Procedures
Any professional working as an interviewer or human resources personnel will have a skillset related to communication and organization. When being interviewed you should expect a number of questions about your skills and how you’re valuable to the company, etc. However, this is easy to fake, as a scammer. What you need to look out for is that they show a clear amount of structure.
If you’re asked for an interview, no real company will demand you be quick about responding. If they’re interested in an interview, a legitimate company is not likely to ask you to do the interview immediately. They will ask you to schedule an interview time with them. They may ask if you have availabilities that day, but they will not just start interviewing you immediately.
After the interview, any professional company will tell you that they will get back to you when they’ve made a decision about your interview. No professional company will tell you to wait for an indefinite amount of time while they talk to HR peers. If a company Does want you to wait, because they intend to make a quick decision, they will give you an expected wait time, as that is the courteous and professional thing to do. They will not expect you to be on-call for this period of time. A time projection is simply to give you an idea of what to expect. For example, “I’ll be in touch within the next 1-3 hours about the results of your interview. Thank you for your time.”
Furthermore, if you are accepted for a job, any professional company will make a clear outline of exactly how they plan to introduce you into company life. They will respect your time and ask you to schedule things with them. For example, “Is there a period of 2-3 hours within the next few days where you would be available for an orientation?”
No professional company will demand you do anything at any particular time. That is not how legitimate professionals treat new employees. You will be asked to schedule things with them. Even when you’re assigned work hours, if the exact hours you’re applying for are not listed in the job description you applied for, they will ask you to fill out some kind of time sheet to outline your availabilities, then schedule you for times within that outline.
4. Doesn’t Show Signs of Money Scamming
There are two major red flags when it comes to money scams. Your interviewer should never ask you what bank you use and your interviewer should never ever tell you they’re going to send you a check, unless they send your paycheck as a check.
One of the more common scams at the moment is run by people pretending to be members of legitimate companies, hiring freelancers for things like proofreading and editing. These remote positions may require home office hardware, right? The interviewer will tell you you’re missing some hardware and software that are required for the job. Then they’ll tell you that they will send a check that you can cash and use to buy the required materials.
This is even sketchier if they email you front and back images of the check and tell you to print it and then deposit it through mobile banking. The way this works is that, if you cash the check successfully, you will then buy the list of software, which is usually completely unrelated to the job you’re being hired for, then they will cancel the check, which hasn’t cleared completely. That leaves you with ~$2k dollars less in your bank and their money right back where it started in theirs. Presumably, the scammers are the ones selling the software. So, that $2k dollars you just spent is also going into their bank account.
Professional companies will never offer to send you checks to buy products. If they have official hardware or software that they want you to use, they will buy it themselves and then send it to you. There is never a reason why a new hire should buy hardware or software out of their own bank, whether they have been given money for it or not.
Furthermore, a legitimate company will never ever pay you before you have signed and sent your contract to them. One of the obvious giveaways of the scam I was almost caught in was that I was sent the contract last night and I asked if I could send it in today, since it was getting late. The interviewer agreed. I signed it in the morning and then asked him if I should send it in a reply to the email I got the original contract from or if there’s another email I need to send it to. He completely ignored my question, asked me how I was doing, and then went into the check-related information so I could buy software.
The issue was bothering me ALL DAY. I knew there was something extremely weird about that, so I asked again a few hours later. His response? “You have nothing to worry about.” ?????? I was aghast. I wasn’t worried at all! I just wanted an answer! If he had simply told me to respond to the email I’d gotten the contract from, I might have fallen for his scam! What a terrible scammer smdh
A Non-Exhaustive List of Other Red Flags
Your interviewer shows a poor grasp on the language
If your interviewer is making frequent grammatical errors that are glaringly obvious to any native speaker, that is a huge red flag. HR reps and interviewers are hired because of their communication skills. It is highly unlikely that someone who makes non-native-like errors is legitimate unless they are actually openly non-native, in which case, it’s not so alarming.
Your interviewer is showing impatience or demanding you at certain times
If your interviewer is telling you to “report back by 8am tomorrow” without any kind of prior agreement that this is an acceptable time for you to meet, that is extremely unprofessional and shows a lack of patience. Scammers want to get to the meat of their scam quickly and will use an air of professional superiority and authority to scare you into moving faster than necessary.
Your interviewer shows a lack of opening and closing statements
Along the lines of the clear processes that I mentioned above anybody who is initiating you in the job you’re taking should show clear opening and closing statements. What I mean by this is: professionals in human resources or management positions will not keep you as a social hostage. If you’ve been discussing how you’ll begin training or somesuch, they will not just leave you hanging. You should have a dedicated time slot where you will have your discussion and, at the end of it, your supervisor should make a closing statement. For example, “It looks like our time is running out for today. What would be a good time to pick this up tomorrow?”
If you feel like you are “on-call” and unable to leave the room because the interviewer or supervisor keeps messaging, has not outlined a time slot for you to talk in, won’t seem to let you go, or shows no indication of stopping, that is a really bad sign. Either the company is legitimate and TERRIBLE at professionalism (a great sign you should run anyway), or this is a scammer intent on getting you to follow their instructions as soon as they can.
Your interviewer ignores time zones or gets them wrong
When I was contacted about doing an interview yesterday, it was 4:30pm. I did the interview and was told I got the job. Immediately after, without asking if I was free, he began listing off instructions and things I was to expect. It wasn’t until 7:30pm that he sent me the contract and asked me to review it, sign it, and send it back that I finally asked if I could do that tomorrow. The interviewer was supposedly on the west coast and knew that I was on the east coast. He agreed by saying “Alright” and then told me to report to him “by 8am your time.”
There are 3 things about this that are weird. The first is that he demanded I show up at 8am to continue where we left off. Any professional would have asked when I’m available the next day to continue. the second is that he said “your time” instead of saying EST, as most professionals in the US would be apt to do. And, lastly, I showed up at 7:50am, ready to continue, because I’m that desperate that I’m willing to be pushed around, and he showed up at 9am on the dot. He had gotten the time wrong. Nobody who works professionally on the west coast is incapable of adding 3 hours to their time. It was a rookie mistake, or a mistake made by someone in a completely different time zone than they say they are.
When asked to verify their identity, your interviewer attempts to reassure you or refuses
When I finally was fed up and knew this must be a scam, I politely asked my interviewer to verify his identity by either showing me his US ID or by contacting me from his email or phone number listed on the official company website. He sent me a photoshopped nametag with a completely different person’s name and photo on it and said it was the company ID of the HR director.
I have never seen a facade fall so pathetically. Why would literally any even remotely legitimate person do such a thing? It was sad, really. He deleted the message in less than a minute - no doubt to keep me from looking at it long enough to see how badly it was photoshopped - and then aggressively reassured me that the company meant me no harm and would pay for everything, etc. Any real professional would have simply sent me an email from the legitimate address, stating that they’re legitimate, and then continued on with the initiation process.
Learn from My Mistakes
I hope some of this was helpful for all of you lovely freelancers trying to find work. I thought I would know a scam when I saw one, and I did have a Bad Feeling about this whole thing, because it did feel too good to be true, but I was desperate enough that my judgement was heavily clouded, and that could happen to anyone.
Don’t ignore red flags - especially these ones. Stick up for yourself. Avoid confirmation bias. I looked things up repeatedly to confirm that the company was legitimate and that it’s normal to do things like mobile deposit a printed check and so on. Every time, I found an explanation that suited me. I even tried to cash the check. The only reason it didn’t work was because there was an error with the name on the check because I recently legally changed my name and PayPal was having some kind of issue updating in some areas of its website. It was after that that I realized this was all crashing down and I needed to reassess it all. Don’t let yourself get that deep into it.

Sweet Dreams pt. 1
So, I've had to switch my medication recently for my anxiety, and it's been a bit rough. I normally have a bit of a problem with nightmares because of stress, but since starting Effexor it's been like... on steroids. One of my ways of coping with my mental health is writing, so I've started working on an Obey Me! series of short fics with each of the brothers comforting an MC who's been suffering from long-term night terrors as a medication side-effect. I debated about whether to post them or not, but ultimately I feel like if they can be comforting reads to someone else in a similar situation to mine, of course I'd want to share them! So, here's part one with Lucifer. Please know this is based on my own personal experiences with my anxiety and medications- mental health isn't one-size-fits-all, and everybody experiences it differently on all fronts. Not everybody will experience anxiety the way MC does in these fics, and that's okay! MC is not meant to be representative of everyone everywhere who has ever dealt with having an anxiety disorder- I personally think such a thing is impossible anyway. That being said, please practice good reader discretion if mental health is a hard topic for you- the last thing I want to do is harm someone else's mental health with my writing. I'll post specific trigger warnings just above the cut, so you'll know exactly what you're getting yourself into before you continue!
Now that the long disclaimer is out of the way... I hope that you enjoy this small fic series, reader! It was cathartic for me to write, and I hope they can bring comfort to others too.
Genre: Comfort with Lucifer x gn!reader (if you squint)
Word Count: 2.2k
TW: Mentions of anxiety and treatments, depictions of anxiety and nightmare aftermath, descriptions of nightmares
Lucifer was worried.
Not that he would admit to it. He was the Avatar of Pride, and as such he had an image to maintain. After all, just because someone fails to reply to text messages and calls- or does something out of their norm, like skipping breakfast- it doesn't necessarily mean there's something dire afoot.
Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Lucifer tried to school his facial features into something close to neutral as his brothers fretted and discussed (Y/N)'s radio silence, and now their absence at breakfast. Mammon was the first to make a commotion about it, of course, causing the other brothers to slowly voice their own concerns about the resident human exchange student.
"I'm tellin' ya, it's just not like them! We ough'ta check on them. What if they caught some kind of weird human disease and died in their sleep?!" Mammon boomed out, fists clenched and resting on the table as he leaned forward over his plate.
"I highly doubt that, Mammon. I don't know of any human disease with such a quick onset and short incubation period before death. Still, it is a bit worrying. Should we make sure they're alright?" Satan, ever the voice of reason, spoke calmly, looking to the eldest to gauge his reaction to his question.
"Maybe they had a late start? I did suggest a new morning skincare regimen for them; maybe they've taken my advice?" Asmo practically crooned, no doubt preening at the thought of a small success with the exchange student- and probably thinking other impure thoughts related to them getting ready for the day.
"They need to make sure they eat. It's no good trying to learn on an empty stomach," Beel interjected, shaking his head and settling a hand on his stomach, clearly appalled at the thought of enduring that kind of experience.
Lucifer kneaded the small ache that had started to form between his eyes from his brothers' bickering and rapid-fire speculations. A sharp pain lanced through his skull from said place when Mammon brought his closed fists down on the table forcefully, rattling the dishes and forcefully pushing himself and his chair back.
"That's it, I'm checkin' on 'em! If all you guys are gonna do is sit around-"
"Enough, Mammon," Lucifer spoke, commanding the attention of all his brothers. A pregnant silence fell over the room as the Morningstar sighed, casually tossing his linen napkin onto the table beside his empty plate as he calmly pushed his chair back to stand. "I will check on them myself. The rest of you are to go about your days as normal unless you hear otherwise."
A couple of the brothers muttered angrily under their breath, but most seemed satisfied with the decision. Without another word, Lucifer strode from the room, leaving his brothers to clean up and be on their way to RAD.
When Lucifer reached (Y/N)'s room, his superhuman hearing picked up soft sniffles from within, heightening his concern about the human. He rapped his knuckles against the solid wood of the door, calling out their name gently but at a volume where he knew he would be heard. When he didn't hear them stir, and nobody came to the door, he resolved himself to intruding upon a potentially sensitive situation. "(Y/N), I'm coming in."
When he opened the door and took a couple steps across the threshold, he panicked a bit at first, not seeing any sign of (Y/N) in the room. Another small sniff allayed those fears, though, and he closed the door softly behind him, making his way into the space as he looked for the human. He finally found them curled up into a small ball on the floor in a corner of the room, out of sight of the door, their face pressed into their knees as they trembled.
The sight in front of him broke Lucifer's heart. (Y/N) had brought such brightness to his and his brothers' lives, showing them the utmost care and showering them with love they hadn't realized they were starved for. To see them like this- shaking with pent-up sobs and white knuckles as they squeezed their hands into fists- was a blow directly to the eldest's normally ice-cold heart.
"(Y/N)," he breathed, slowly approaching as if he was walking towards a frightened, injured fawn. His entire presence softened as he got down on one knee beside the upset exchange student, fighting the overwhelming urge to gently turn their face to his or pull them into his arms. "What's happened?"
(Y/N) shook their head, their arms tightening around their knees. "It's stupid. I'll be fine. Please don't worry about me- I'll be down for breakfast soon."
Lucifer's face pulled down into an even deeper frown at their words, bothered that they were so quick to invalidate themself and push comfort away. "Well- that's why I'm here. Breakfast was over an hour ago, and my brothers are worried about you."
(Y/N)'s head shot up at that, and for the first time Lucifer got a good look at their flushed, tear-stained face. "God- I'm so, so sorry, I didn't mean to worry anybody- I'm such a burden-"
Lucifer made hushing noises, and unable to restrain himself anymore he sat fully on the ground, pulling the human into his arms as they hiccupped and began to sob. When they didn't push him away and began leaning into him, he tightened his hold, rubbing small circles into their lower back as their tears soaked his left shoulder, all the while murmuring soothing words in their ear. After what seemed like a small slice of eternity, but what in reality may have only been fifteen minutes or half of an hour, the exchange student's tears slowed, then stopped altogether, though silent sobs continued to wrack their smaller frame.
Lucifer lifted his head from where he had rested it on top of theirs, leaning back slightly to see their face as he gently tilted it towards him. Red eyes looked back at him, glazed with exhaustion and something else he couldn't quite pinpoint. Reaching up with a gloved hand, he gently cupped their face in the palm of his hand, wiping away the tears he could reach with his thumb.
"You aren't a burden, (Y/N). You go out of your way for myself and my brothers, doing things nobody asked of you to lift us up and make our lives easier. We've needed somebody like you for a long time now, and if anything we are a burden on you. We worry about you because we care." Lucifer broke the silence, his voice gentle but leaving no room for argument. "I won't push you into telling me what's wrong... but if you would like to talk about it, I promise I will do everything in my power to make things right."
Their eyes wavered, then shifted to the side, a frown continuing to mar their beautiful face. "Lu, I... it means a lot to me for you to say something like that. I just... I don't think there is anything you can do, or anybody for that matter, and not for lack of wanting to."
(Y/N) paused for breath, and Lucifer waited, sensing their internal debate about disclosing their struggle to him. Finally, they sighed, sagging against him as if all the strength had just left their body. "You saw my file," they said flatly, their head against his chest. Lucifer tightened his hold around them once again, pressing his face to the crown of their head and making a small sound of affirmation.
"Did it say anything about my anxiety disorder?"
Lucifer paused. Yes, he had noted that there was a mental health condition in their profile- generalized anxiety, with therapist notes stating it had a strong social skew- but it had never come up in conversation with (Y/N) before, and with how bright and happy they usually were, he thought they might be in remission- either that, or managing it extremely well.
(Y/N) continued on before he could answer them. "Barbatos has been making sure I have my medication- which is great, since of all the SSRIs I've tried it's the only one that seems to help level me out. But, the bad thing is... my doctor didn't tell me that a lot of people experience nightmares while on it, and ever since I've started it, it seems like I'm having them almost every single night." They paused for breath, their entire body tensing up, and Lucifer began to soothingly stroke their bicep with his thumb, where his hand had settled after they shifted. "Most of the time they're really vivid and... weird? Like, I had a nightmare a few nights ago that I was leading an expedition into the far North back in the human realm, and just as we were about to reach an Inuit settlement I got lured over the side of the boat by sea monsters and drowned... which has absolutely no relevance to my life experience. Obviously. But in the moment they're so scary-" They shuddered, then continued, almost as if they couldn't stop themself now that they had started speaking. "And then other times they're those really vague ones- like, running away from something through a deep forest at night, and suddenly you're falling off a cliff. But then there's, like, maybe 25% of them that actually are relevant to me- some of the worst periods and moments of my life- and those-" They almost choked on their words at the end, and Lucifer squeezed gently, worried they might start crying again.
When they stayed silent, Lucifer spoke. "How long has this been going on?"
There was a pause before the human answered, as if they knew he wouldn't be happy. "Since before I was brought here."
Lucifer was shocked. The exchange student had been here for several months already, and he was only just now hearing about this? Another pang lanced through his heart, wondering how many other mornings they had spent like this, and he deeply regretted the thought of them spending so many nights tortured by their own mind, all alone.
"You should have come to me sooner, (Y/N). You didn't have to suffer in silence." Lucifer's tone softened the words, and he again leaned back to get a look at the expression on the exchange student's face.
"I didn't want to be- troublesome. All your brothers have their own commitments and things they do, and you especially have so much on your plate. I didn't want to disrespect anybody's time."
Just when Lucifer thought things couldn't get worse, they did. He could hear their fear of being a burden, even with their carefully chosen words. The exchange student had put themself through months of agony, all because they hadn't wanted to trouble him. The revelation deeply disturbed him. A handful of months was nothing in a demon's life, just a blip, but for a human? That was a very long time.
"You are incredibly important, to all of us. Your struggles are never a waste of our time, even if you feel they're insignificant." Lucifer spoke firmly, trying to put every ounce of the conviction he felt into his voice. He reached up again to gently turn the human's face towards him, meeting their eyes with his own crimson ones. "Please, don't put yourself through something like this again. If I can bring even a small amount of the comfort you've brought me back to you, I would move the heavens to do it. Promise me."
Their eyes glimmered, and their bottom lip trembled. "I promise," they almost whispered, their voice choked up.
Lucifer impulsively brought his face closer to theirs, softly placing a chaste kiss on their forehead. The exchange student sniffled, bringing their hands up to wipe at their face.
"I will talk to Solomon and Satan about any potions they might know of to combat your nightmares. In the meantime, please come find me in the event that they wake you up in the middle of the night. I'm no stranger to night terrors."
When they acquiesced, he smiled, satisfied. "Now, get dressed. I'm informing Lord Diavolo that we're taking a personal day off- no buts." He spoke, already seeing the protest in their eyes and on their lips, which had parted on the start of a word. "We'll do whatever you want. My treat."
Their brows furrowed. "Won't you get in trouble?"
Lucifer stood, bringing (Y/N) up with him. "Not if I'm doing it for the exchange student's benefit. I'll give you ten minutes while I make the call." The softness the Morningstar had displayed was now gone, replaced with his usual composure as he began walking towards the door, fishing his D.D.D. out of his pocket as he moved.
"Lu?"
He paused at the door, turning back to look at the human. Their eyes were glimmering in the dim light of the room, arms wrapped around their waist. Lucifer thought they were about to cry again until he recognized the sheer gratitude in their expression.
"Thank you, for this- and for everything."
Lucifer showed a soft smile, just for them. "Anything for you, (Y/N)."

Top left: Grasswater redo rumoured Will anybody tackle the ‘cursed’ adaptation? [Image Description: The ‘w’ in ‘Grasswater, ‘h’ in ‘the’, and ‘o’ in ‘adaptation’ in the above headline have been circled in pencil. End ID.] It's been nearly a decade and a half since the critically-acclaimed adaptation of Sir Thomas Parsett's The Grasswater Affair flopped into cinemas, and rumours are once again circulating about a possible reboot. The first attempt at transferring Parsett's magnum opus to the big screen was released in 2009 after a series of setbacks to the production process. Among the calamities that befell the set were a fire in the wardrobe department, an overdose requiring producers to recast the lead role of Fabian, and a bout of food poisoning that halted filming for over a week. There were whispers, among the more superstitious, that the film was cursed. By the time The Grasswater Affair was finally released, the delay had whipped the original book's fans into a frenzy of anticipation, and excitement over the forthcoming film actually pushed the 19th-century novel into the bestseller lists for the first time in the weeks before the release. Early reviews were promising, and the good press only fed the hype machine. But the crowds that packed into cinemas to watch it emerged disappointed; while the reasons they gave for their disappointment varied wildly, everybody from casual viewers to die-hard book lovers seemed to find it lacking in some aspect or another. It deviated too far from the source text, while adhering precisely to the minor details that didn't matter; it featured a young actor fresh out of drama school, rather than the promised household name; it lingered too long on shots of the actresses' bosoms, and the key object that proved key to the plot was left entirely out of focus in the background of a crucial early scene. While, naturally, some audience members enjoyed it in its own right, it never became either a blockbuster hit or a cult classic, and it still boasts a lowly 2.9 stars on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) and 24% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This being the case, it might be hard to understand why rumours continue to circulate about a revival of The Grasswater Affair, or what might make this time different from the many, many other occasions when such a story has surfaced on the internet. The first question is easily answered by a look at the thriving community of Parsett fans who adore the original novel – and, indeed, the rest of the series The Grasswater Affair is part of. Following first Fabian, and then various other heroes, through a sort of alternative 19th century underpinned by magic and other fantasy tropes, it's been hailed as a masterpiece – and it's aged surprisingly well despite the shift in society's views and tolerances since its publication. The first novel sees Fabian locked in a battle of wits with his somewhat older rival, Rafferty, as they seek to make their fortunes in a society rife with danger and – worse – scandal. As for the second question, the recent rumours have an extra ring of truth to them thanks to the attachment of an actual name – writer-turned-showrunner Noel Garmin is said to be in talks about the project. Having adapted several of his own books for the small screen, could he now be turning his famed respect for written source material to a film or series based on Parsett's masterpiece? If he does, book fans can expect to be very pleased with the result. Garmin was asked about his upcoming projects at a recent convention panel, and his answer, while enigmatic, seemed promising.“Well, I've got to write some books, at some point! But I do also want to work on some more TV, it's a fascinating way of telling a story and it's still quite new and exciting for me. Perhaps I could tell one of my favourite stories, one that I didn't originally write. I'm actually talking to some people... We'll have to see. Hopefully I'll have news for you soon.” Hopefully you will, Noel. Hopefully you will. CITRON DEUX-CHEVAL Top right: Summer’s operatic offerings Last of Glyndebourne festival announcements [Image Description: The apostrophe and ‘s’ of ‘summer’s’ and the ‘t’ of ‘operatic’ in the above headline are circled in pencil. Below the headline is a short, wide picture of a theatre auditorium with red curtains. Small text over the bottom of the picture reads ‘Photo: Gabriel Varaljay | Unsplash’. End ID.] Opera fans are in for a treat this summer, as Puccini's Turandot returns to Glyndebourne Opera House. The venue in Lewes is renowned as the home of great opera, and Turandot is a favourite no matter where it's performed, so this combination of the two is a perfect match. Throw in popular young tenor Jeremy Wensleydale – most recently seen on ITV's The Masked Singer - performing the role of Calaf, and it's a performance guaranteed to impress. The play follows Calaf as he sets out to win the hand of the titular princess. Each suitor is asked three riddles, and failure means instant death. But answering three riddles is not enough to win the heart of Princess Turandot, and Calaf strikes a desperate bargain; if she can guess his true name by daybreak, she may put him to death regardless. If she fails, the marriage goes ahead. It's an interesting method of courting, to be sure, but the opera has enchanted and delighted audiences for many years now. And, if nothing else, who can resist an opportunity to hear 'Nessun Dorma' live? Glyndebourne members can book tickets now for dates between 25th May and 22nd June; remaining tickets will be available from the 18th of April. Turandot is the latest title to be announced by the opera house and completes their summer season's line-up. There will also be performances of Cosi Fan Tutte, Tristan and Isolde, Il Turco in Italia, and an array of concerts and other events. The Glyndebourne Summer Festival is always a highlight of the arts scene in the middle of the year, but there are events all year round. Currently, the opera house is a stopping-point for a touring production of Romeo & Juliet, which has already passed through the Chichester Festival Theatre and will then go on to Colchester, Ipswich, Cambridge, Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds. The show is a daring new interpretation of the age-old Shakespearean tragedy, fusing music and dance with the familiar story, and a full review will appear in the Capital Herald on Thursday. From the middle of February, Romeo & Juliet will be replaced at Glyndebourne with a more traditional #approach to La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. The music of La Traviata may be familiar, even to audiences unfamiliar with the story, as it was rather liberally plundered for inspiration by Donato Lovreglio in 1865. Of course, that does assume a familiarity with Lovreglio - but if you find yourself humming along during your first attendance, that might very well be why. Incidentally, for more opera and classical music trivia, you might find my recent book, Inside Opera, worth a read - especially if you need to brush up on your cultured conversation points before you visit the opera house this summer. EDWARD BIGGS Inside Opera, by Edward Biggs, is published by Byker Press and is available now in all good bookshops. #Hardback RRP £9.99/€11.99.
Centre left: Capital Herald scoops NMA Star-studded ceremony honours news greats [Image Description: The ‘H’ of ‘Herald’, ‘A’ of ‘NMA’, and ‘t’ of ‘star’ in the above headline are circled in pencil.] The 2021 News Media Award ceremony took place on Thursday evening at a glamorous event held in the Mayfair Room at the Connaught Hotel, Mayfair. While many of the attendees are more used to operating the cameras than parading in front of them, they rose to the occasion with great aplomb, rubbing shoulders on the red carpet with some of the most famous entertainers in the UK who'd come to add their own special touches to the ceremony. It will come as no surprise to learn that Trevor McDonald, Natasha Kaplinsky, and Naga Munchetty were in attendance, as were Tom Bradby and Dan Walker. But the attendee who really got heads turning was Carmine Zugiber, notorious for attending very few events on UK soil. Although she's normally out in the field, she's been based in London for the last couple of months, covering the political beat for News World Weekly in Uriel Scrolle's absence, and it seems she couldn't resist the opportunity to collect her awards for Best Combat Coverage and Outstanding Field Reporting in person. Wearing a glamorous Ligur gown in striking red to match her hair, she paused on the red carpet to exchange words with some of those less fortunate reporters covering the event. “I don't know what to do with myself, with nobody shooting at me!” Zugiber joked. “Where's my bulletproof jacket?” The ceremony featured a performance of 'Messy (If I Want To Be)' by rapper P-White, who also presented an award for Entertainment Columnist of the Year to the Capital Herald's very own Citron Deux-Cheval. Another of the Capital Herald's staff writers, Edward Biggs, was nominated in the category of News-Adjacent Achievement for his 2020 trivia book, That Guy From That Thing. While the award, presented by Dame Angela Crowley, eventually went to News World Weekly's Donald Eath for High Score: A Study in Arcade Machines, Edward did get a chance to meet Dame Angela and exchange a few words. “She said I shouldn't feel discouraged, as she didn't win anything at her first awards ceremony either – and she wished me every success with my new book, which has just come out,” said Biggs of the star. “Hopefully, next year, I'll be bringing home a trophy too.” At the end of the night, as the winners and losers drifted home, the presses were already roaring into action to print the morning's papers. The news never stops; there was precious little time for the winners to enjoy the warm glow of appreciation, and no time at all for the less successful nominees to lament their losses. But at the end of the day, the whole industry could sleep safe in the knowledge that the work we do is valuable, and valued. MARY HODGES

Held in the Blue Peter garden in Salford to celebrate ten years since it was relocated from London, the party is expected to provide an opportunity for Blue Peter presenters, past and present, to mingle and let their hair down, as well as catching up with some of the guests who've appeared on the show over the years. Former presenters such as Adam Young, Katy Hill, Radzi Chinyanganya, Anthea Turner, Gethin Jones, Pat Maputi, Yvette Fielding and Konnie Huq can expect an invite, of course, as can the current team of Lindsey Russell, Richie Driss, Mwaka Mudenda, and Adam Beales. But the former guests are an even more varied bunch; everyone from Idina Menzel and Sir Chris Hoy to McFly and Tim Peake could be invited, to say nothing of the hundreds of farmers, bakers, teachers, parents, and kids who've taken part in the show. While the party is quite a long way off yet, the BBC are already hard at work figuring out a lottery system that will allow them to give every viewer an equal chance to be invited to the party. Register your interest now on the Blue Peter website to make sure you don't miss out. SARAH JEUNE Ad, bottom right: [Image Description: A black background with a dark-grey crown resting on it. PSA: Stuff You Maybe Didn’t Realize You Can Back Up To AO3, And How To Tag it
Tumblr seems to be in potential death throes or at least, incredibly volatile and unreliable lately, but we’ve done some pretty good and informative work on canon analysis and reference guides so I was looking for ways to back it up without losing it...and the solution became obvious to me: Archive of Our Own, aka AO3.  “What?” you might ask if you are less familiar with their TOS. “Isn’t that just a fanfic archive??” No! It’s a fanWORK archive. It is an archive for fanworks in general! “Fanwork” is a broad term that encompasses a lot of things, but it doesn’t just include fanfic and fanart, vids etc; it also includes “fannish” essays and articles that fall under what’s often called “meta” (from the word for “beyond” or “above”, referencing that it goes beyond the original exact text)! The defining factor of whether Archive of Our Own is the appropriate place to post it is not whether or not it’s a fictional expansion of canon (fanfic), though that is definitely included - no, it’s literally just “is this a work by a ‘fan’ intended for other ‘fannish’ folks/of ‘fannish’ interest?”  The articles we’ve written as a handy reference to the period-appropriate Japanese clothing worn by Inuyasha characters?  The analyses of characters? The delineations of concrete canon (the original work) vs common “fanon” (common misconceptions within the fandom)? Even the discussion of broader cultural, historical, and geographic context that applies to the series and many potential fanworks?  All of those are fannish nonfiction! Which means they absolutely can (and will) have a home on AO3, and I encourage anybody who is wanting to back up similar works of “fannish interest” - ranging from research they’ve done for a fic, to character analyses and headcanons - to use AO3 for it, because it’s a stable, smooth-running platform that is ad-free and unlike tumblr, is run by a nonprofit (The OTW) that itself is run by and for the benefit of, fellow fans.  Of course, that begs the question of how to tag your work if you do cross-post it, eh? So on that note, here’s a quick run-down of tags we’re finding useful and applicable, which I’ve figured out through a combination of trial and error and actually asking a tag wrangler (shoutout to @wrangletangle for their invaluable help!): First, the Very Broad: - “ Nonfiction ”. This helps separate it from fanfic on the archive, so people who aren’t looking for anything but fanfic are less likely to have to skim past it, whereas people looking for exactly that content are more likely to find it. - while “Meta” and “Essay” and even “Information” are all sometimes used for the kinds of nonfiction and analytical works we post, I’ve been told “ Meta Essay ” is the advisable specific tag for such works. This would apply to character analyses, reference guides to canon, and even reference guides to real-world things that are reflected in the canon (such as our articles on Japanese clothing as worn by the characters).  The other three tags are usable, and I’ve been using them as well to cover my bases, but they’ll also tend to bring up content such as “essay format” fanfic or fanfic with titles with those words in them - something that does not happen with “Meta Essay”.
- I’ve also found by poking around in suggested tags, that “ Fanwork Research & Reference Guides ” is consistently used (even by casual users) for: nonfiction fannish works relating to analyses of canon materials; analyses of and meta on fandom-specific or fanwork-specific tropes; information on or guides to writing real-world stuff that applies to or is reflected in specific fandoms' media (e.g. articles on period-appropriate culture-specific costuming and how to describe it); and expanded background materials for specific fans' fanworks (such as how a given AU's worldbuilding is supposed to be set up) that didn't fit within the narrative proper and is separated out as a reference for interested readers. Basically, if it's an original fan-made reference for something specific to one or more fanworks, or a research aid for writing certain things applicable to fanworks or fannish interests in general, then it can fall under that latter tag.
- You should also mark it with any appropriate fandom(s) in the “Fandom” field. Just like you would for a fanfic, because of course, the work is specifically relevant to fans of X canon, right? If it discusses sensitive topics, or particular characters, etc., you should probably tag for those. E.g. “death” or “mental illness”, “Kagome Higurashi”, etc.
Additionally, if you are backing it up from a Tumblr you may wish to add: - “ Archived From Tumblr “ and/or “ Cross-Posted From Tumblr ” to reference the original place of publication, for works originally posted to tumblr. (I advise this if only because someday, there might not be “tumblr” as we know it, and someone might be specifically looking for content that was originally on it, you never know) - “ Archived From [blog name] Blog ”; this marks it as an archived work from a specific blog. And yes, I recommend adding the word “blog” in there for clarity- Wrangletangle was actually delighted that I bothered to tag our first archived work with “Archived From Inu-Fiction Blog” because being EXTREMLY specific about things like that is super helpful to the tag wranglers on AO3, who have to decide how to categorize/”syn” (synonym) various new tags from alphabetized lists without context of the original posting right in front of them.  In other words, including the name AND the word “blog” in it, helps them categorize the tag on the back end without having to spend extra time googling what the heck “[Insert Name Here]” was originally.
Overall, you should be as specific and clear as possible, but those tags/tag formats should prove useful in tagging it correctly should you choose to put fannish essays and articles up on AO3 :) Oh, and protip sidebar for those posting, especially works that are more than plain text: you can make archiving things quicker and easier for yourself, but remember to plan ahead for tumblr’s potential demise/disabling/service interruptions. The good news: You can literally copy and paste the ENTIRE text of a tumblr post from say, an “edit” window, on tumblr, straight into AO3′s Rich Text Format editor, and it will preserve pretty much all or almost all of the formatting - such as bold, italics, embedded links, etc! But the bad news: keep in mind that while AO3 allows for embedded images and it WILL transfer those embedded images with a quick copy-paste like that, AO3 itself doesn’t host the images for embedding; those are still external images. This means that whether or not they continue to load/display for users, depends entirely on whether the file is still on the original external server! As I quickly discovered, in the case of posts copied from the Edit window of a tumblr post, the images will still point to the copies of the images ON tumblr’s servers. What this means is that you should back up (save copies elsewhere of) any embedded images that you consider vital to such posts, in case you need to upload them elsewhere and fiddle with where the external image is being pulled from, later.  Personally, I’m doing that AND adding image descriptions underneath them, just to be on the safe side (and in fairness, this makes it more accessible to people who cannot view the images anyway, such as sight-impaired people who use screen readers or people who have images set to not automatically display on their browser, so it’s win-win)

Join tonight’s CR Fanart Describing Hour, 5-6pm PST!
Hi Critters! Critical Role may be starting an hour earlier today, but we’ll be going at the same time as always from 5-6pm PST. Come join us for the hour before the live show and describe a few images!
This week we’ll be finishing up the 11/11: Stronger Together gallery. Once we finish that, we’ll move on to the 11/18: Love and Loss gallery. Join in if you can, and spread the word!
Check under the read more for answers to common questions.
What is the CR Fanart Project?
We are a project dedicated to describing the fanart that Critical Role compiles every week into a gallery. Whenever a gallery is completely described and edited, we send it off to the CR team. They put those descriptions in the alt-text for each image on the website. You can find all of the galleries we have worked on, both in-progress and finished, right here!
How does this work?
Every week, Critical Role publishes a gallery of fanart on their website. We at CR Fanart Project then make a google doc for describing the gallery. Once a gallery is completely described, it is edited and sent off to the CR team.
Who writes these descriptions?
Volunteers like you! This is entirely a labor of love from the Critter community.
How do I help?
Click here to go to our master google doc for the project. From there, you can select which gallery you would like to work on. Once you open the google doc for a particular gallery, you will see at the top a link to the gallery on the Critical Role website. The images in the gallery are numbered (which you can see by clicking on an image). The docs are also numbered, so the description for an image goes next to the corresponding number in the google doc. From there you can start writing!
We try to work on the most recent galleries first, but you can choose whichever you would like. Any help at all is appreciated!
How do I write image descriptions?
One of our mods, JD (keplercryptids), has a great post about it here!
Why write image descriptions?
JD also has a great post about that here!
What is CR Fanart Describing Hour?
It is a weekly hour-long event where people can work all together on describing the latest fanart galleries! This event is on Thursdays from 5-6pm PST. For the duration of the hour, whoever wants to join works on writing descriptions for one of the galleries. When we finish one, we’ll move on to the next. This is a great way to make big bursts of progress on the galleries - plus it’s more fun to work all together!
Can I work on describing the galleries outside of the weekly hour?
Absolutely! We appreciate anybody working on the galleries at any hour.
Could we do more than one hour a week?
We are definitely interested in the idea of doing more than one hour a week, but for now we’ll start off small. If things go well, maybe we’ll add another time!
Could we do the hour at a different time/day?
Go ahead and send feedback about when you would like it to be! We tried picking a time that would work for the most people, but if enough people favor a different time slot then we may consider changing it.
Any other questions? Send us an ask!

31 Day Horror House : Day 28 + 29 : Anything you want! and The Head of the Household
(Collen wrote you what she called a 'summons', though as you skim through the annotated paper, you notice that her writing seems... less than professional. She tells you that it doesn't matter how professional it reads, the house will read it as what it is. Hard to lie to a house, so she doesn't bother with the fancy text.)
(You go outside again, handing your summons to Reach's bird friend. She hops down the length of their arm to put she summons in the mailbox. She tells you that there's no good way for this to go, but wishes you the best anyways.)
(The ballroom is dark, and you set your first step in there. The walls are lined with rib-like collumns, the chandelier above swinging loosely. The floor's pattern looks like checkered teeth. A wind blows through along the ground, chilling your ankles.)
(You think over what to say. You only know that Warren was alone, and apparently only wants to be alone, but is too polite to say so to his housemates’ faces. He has family he never asked for, given to him by a house that only wants the best for him. If you can't talk him into accepting that he doesn't have to be alone anymore, that there are people here now to help him and take care of him...
Then the house will only fracture further, no matter how many people you introduce to each other. The thing keeping them apart is Warren's unwillingness to communicate.)
(You think that he's right, in a way. It isn't fair that he was suddenly saddled with family he didn't want. It isn't fair that his wishes to be alone aren't respected.)
(But... Does the house feel something that Warren isn't saying? Does the house think that Warren is forcing himself to be alone, and is trying to help him?)
(... What does Warren really want?)
-
The chandeliers light one candle at a time, quickly making a spiral of burning light above you. The eerie yellow of the wallpaper and ivory of the columns make you feel small and alone in the light. You stand in the middle of the ballroom, feet set in the middle of a black sun, surrounded by teeth.
The door you came in through opened slowly, and you could see the small silhoette of Warren Beek standing on his too-thin legs, the hallway somehow brighter than the sickly yellow room you were in.
"I see... Nobody's called me before." He says. His voice is barely audible in the large room but his footsteps echo and disappear as he walks in. The doors close behind him, clicking with a lock you didn't know was there.
"I don't know why you don't just leave..." He begins, approaching you with slow, wobbly steps that sound too competent for what you're seeing. "If you just walked down the road, you'll find where you got lost. I'm sure someone would find you, then. Someone like you."
You tell him that there's something horrible at work. That the whole house is in danger, himself included.
"Do you think I care about that!?" He spits, stopping in his tracks. His swollen eyes blink away tears. "I haven't cared what's happened to me since the first 'guest' showed up. My Happy Home was all I had, and then you all took that too!"
You tell him that it isn't the guest's faults. The house wanted them.
"Oh, really? You know, I tried to help you creatures the first five or so times you showed up." He wobbles, fixing his stature. "You creatures are so stubborn, so ready to throw yourselves into this 'nothingness' to escape your own tortures. Never thought how intrusive you all were."
You tell him that you almost completely forgot your name and face because of the house. You needed help from one of the housemates to find your wallet to remember.
"It's not my fault you forgot what you look like! And that means nothing anyway. You haven't forgotten, right?" He takes another step, head tilted up menacingly, "Why stay here, even if there's some horrible event in our horizon? Why not just leave us to our fates, returning to your safe world?"
You say that you could never leave anybody to suffer if you could do something about it.
He stops. Something twitches in his eyelid.
You continue, saying that the house is sick. That his house is sick, because it wants to help him. It keeps calling more and more people because of that, trying to fill that void he keeps pushing back open. You ask him if he actually wants to be alone, or if it's all he's known.
His voice croaks out a sickly groan in response, lower than you'd ever heard it. His eyes twist in their sockets, and he lifts his little wings up, stretching them high behind him. He stands high on his tip-toes, and the lights above you go out with a ghastly scream. In the darkness you can only hear the twisting and stretching of bone and muscle, the ripping of clothing, the whimpering cries of something growing far too fast.
You back away, tripping on your heels and falling to the ground, twisting your arm. You aren't able to recover from the darkness before the lights come back on.
Where Warren Beek was, there was something... Bigger. Much, much bigger than you. His head looked as if his bone structure had grown out without letting his skin grow any feathers or release from his beak, red teeth jutting painfully out from the tip of his beak and his hair curling up from the nape of his bent neck. Deep brown fur wrapped around his 'torso', and his once bare wings are now filled with dirty grey feathers, stretching and ending in the air. His 'torso' ends at what looks like the back end of a skinned rabbit, sitting flat on the ground with his unclothed legs pulled up under him. the tail is covered in skin tags to simulate the softness of a rabbit's tail, instead looking diseased. his skin goes from the soft yellow-orange of his previous form, shading down to a sickly purple, as if all the blood had settled in his rabbity legs and rump.
His wings flutter in a jittery manner, and his large red eye, the pupil now lined with yellow, swints down at you with a disgust only a child could muster.
"I said I wanna be alone! Why won't you ugly things listen to me? I don't know why you think you can just come and live in my house! I found it first, it's my house!" Warren inhales loudly, chest puffing out and fur sticking on end. "I left the nest fair and square all on my own fresh out of the egg and I found this house first and it loves me the most and it'll never love any of you nearly as much and it's mine and I live here and you'll never be able to take it from me!"
You get up, holding your arm. You tell him that nobody is trying to take anything from him. You tell him that there are others here that love him too, other than the house.
He spits, making an attempt to stand on his legs and falling back down onto his tail.
You tell him that Rubedo still considers himself a brother to him, even if Warren won't admit it. You tell him that the architect still cares enough to tell you to warn him. You ask him to think it over, think back to any interaction he'd had with the housemates.
"They're..." He closes his eyes and mouth tight, pulling his wings in. "They don't actually care... They're just parasites..."
His body bends, arching as he sets his torso on the cold marble of the ballroom floor.
"They're making it up." He says.
They're not, you say. Maybe that's why they didn't want to leave. The house brought them here... But maybe some of them wanted to stay on their own. Like you do.
"Why would you wanna stay?" His chin sits on the marble, eyes now half-lidded and tired. "You hated it here. I showed you your car with Mister Bulliam to scare you out. The house tried to steal you away, you said it yourself."
You approach slowly, letting your hurt arm fall. It doesn't hurt as much now. Kneeling on the ground in front of Warren's much, much larger form, you smile.
You say that you care about the people here, and would like to know more about them. You'd like to meet them, if you could, and you'd like to help them come together.
"What would that even change?" Warren asks. His eyes blink heavily. "Why would that be better than being alone?"
You say that it could make a family.

[ image one: A large, three story house with two main chunks of the house and the large connective line between them, partially obscured by a hedge growing in the empty bits between the main chunks of house. the right said has large, thin arches holding up the front of it, inside showing a balcony, above a 'front' door. the other side's door is obscured by a stack of buckets and large plants, hiding under an un-fenced off balcony with a large door. atop the middle rooftops are two sets of three pipes coming out of a chimney, pushing out grey-yellow smoke. the rest of the house is a gradient to orange and purple, the gradient used from here: link
image two: warren beek's 'adult' form. he looks like a bird's body attached to the back end of a rabbit, most of it lacking fur. his beak is longer, red teeth jutting out of the front of his beek, and his eye is larger, red with a yellow lined pupil. dark brown fur coats the top of his 'torso', and his once bare wings are dirty grey and stretching out. he sneers, obviously very upset. ]

New Titans #112
Tumblr media
Don't you worry your pretty little head about Red Star's right leg.
I keep trying to organize my life so that I can read more actual books (as opposed to comic books which I'm not judging. I'm just differentiating) without having to sacrifice any of the other things I enjoy doing. What that generally means is that I wind up reading about ten pages every morning before going to bed (I work nights!). Which realistically means I need to do improve my time management if I'm going to be serious about reading. I have managed to read the first "book" of Alan Moore's Jerusalem but it's taken me a fucking long time to do it. I thought it would take me a long time because I was expecting a difficult read but I'm finding it enjoyable. Plus by the time I've finished, I'm fairly certain I'll be able to navigate Northampton with ease. I'm also wondering if all the descriptions of the characters' movements through the city are an encoded treasure map! Or, being that Alan Moore wrote it, it's more likely a spell to summon some sex demons. While organizing (and by organizing, I mean the main definition of organizing: moving shit around in a way that makes you feel like you're accomplishing something but really you're just engaging in an activity to forget about your mortality for awhile. Plus you can generally get some really fucking good dusting done), I managed to place all of the books from various book shelves that I have yet to finish reading (or that I simply want to reread) on the top shelf of the row of bookcases in my office. Jerusalem is first on that list followed by some books by high school friends (Rogue's Curse by Jason Beymer and Soy Rakelson's children's books that I'm willing to bet everything I own as well as my life and my mother's life on that they're black and white morality tales with a super conservative and possibly Ayn Randian view of the world). After that is There Is No Year which Doom Bunny gave me because it's supposedly a terrible book that I'm not sure he even finished and which I wanted to make fun of (but, hey, maybe I'll love it!) and the rest: Inside the Yellow Submarine, Trixie Belden Mystery-Quiz Book #1, Don Quixote, Gravity's Rainbow, Lost in the Funhouse (reread!), A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, And the Ass Saw the Angel (by Nick Cave!), King's The Wind Through the Keyhole (A Dark Tower book!), Crime and Punishment, Hey Nostradamus!, The Best of H.P. Lovecraft, The Lore and Language of Schoolchildren, The Boomer Bible (re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-read), Six Volumes of The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night (finished with one and a half volumes after owning this set for twenty five years!), The Holy Bible (currently reading for my Patreon), The Norton Anthology of Modern Poetry (Second Edition) (because I need poetic context for the 20th century!), Only Revolutions, The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick, and The Familiar (currently just book one but there's going to be like nine hundred of them, so maybe I won't even bother!). Oh, and I just added We Learn Nothing (reread) and I Wrote This Book Because I Love You, both by Tim Kreider. I'll probably start with those because funny essays are easier to get through than anything by Dostoevsky, Danielewski, Pynchon, Cervantes, Barth, Joyce, or Sakelson! I mean Rakelson! Oh man. Rakelson would have a stroke if he knew I listed his name with all those postmodern authors! Not that they're all postmodern. You can figure out which ones are and aren't on your own. I'm busy reading New Titans #112 which must be good since Starfire is naked on the cover. Okay, almost naked. She is wearing a dickie and a belt. I know a lot of you just skipped that big paragraph while thinking, "Oh, la dee da! What a fancy book reader you are! Fucking virtue signaler! Or whatever the term for listing or showing off your reading list full of classic literary texts is! Seems like virtue signaler works well enough! Better even than what idiotic fuck nuggets use it for on Twitter anyway!" But maybe you missed the part about how those are books I haven't been able to get through yet! I've owned some of these books for over a decade! And I didn't even put The Collected Works of Gertrude Stein on this shelf because do I need to be reminded that I used that book more as an address book than something to read? Although I carried it with me everywhere I went for a year or two (which is why it's full of phone numbers and addresses!). And I really did want to read it. I didn't carry it around so people could think, "Look at him with that book! Who the fuck is Gertrude Stein? What a ponce!" Although to be fair, I did leave off a few books on my "to-read" shelf! But it wasn't because they weren't smart enough sounding! It's because they were comic books and also pornography and also also fucking hilarious.
Tumblr media
One of my friends in the state department who learns a brand new language every four years or so bonded with me over Oglaf last time he visited. He was all, "I'm glad I know somebody I can share my love of Oglaf with and not be looked at like a completely demented perv!" Although I do look at him like he's a completely demented perv, I didn't need to admit it to his face!
I embrace my delusion that readers merely skipped "one" paragraph of my comic book "reviews"! This issue is called "A New Home" and my brain continued to add to that title with "o-erotic Journey." Mostly because of this panel:
Tumblr media
Fairly certain "bamming" a baby is illegal, even in space.
The Titans (and I use that term loosely since the characters encompassed by that shorthand are Changeling, Red Star, Pantha, Baby, and Starfire) have been stranded on The Terraist's space station. That name probably could use a hyphen so you don't first read it as terRAIST twelve times thinking "What the fuck does that mean?" before your brain finally sees the God-awful pun and you give up, finally letting go of that last gossamer thread that's been connecting you to the reality you just discovered doesn't fucking matter. How can there be any meaning to existence when an editor greenlights the name "Terraist"? I'm sure Wolfman's pitch contained at least two dozen "Get it?!"s. Anyway, maybe most readers never even noticed, shrugging their shoulders at every single moment in which a comic book doesn't make sense because at least Starfire is practically naked throughout the last few issues! I have a theory that most people don't really absorb much of what they're reading in comic books. They tend to just love a character for some magic reason and stick with loving that character no matter what terrible writer winds up writing them. And at that point, they just ignore plot holes and inconsistencies and terrible dialogue and whatever the fuck Ann Nocenti does with her typewriter. They simply go star-eyed and gape lovingly at the drawn images of Dick Grayson's throbbing buttocks. That was a hypothetical sentence and not a memoir. Here's a panel with evidence that might lead to proof of my theory if I could actually interview anybody who read this comic book in 1994 and ask them, "Did you even notice this panel?" To which they would all probably respond, "No, I was distracted by the opposite page where you can see tons of Starfire's side-boob and I think one of her outer labia." Um, anyway, the panel I mentioned:
Tumblr media
Damn, Marv. Beyond the Forest was nearly fifty years old at the time this comic came out.
To be fair to Wolfman and Changeling, I did an Internet search on "Whatta dump" (and, yes, I spelled it differently than Marv did) and the first hit was video of the scene where Bette Davis says the line. What's odd is that she delivers it flatter and straighter than anything I would have expected out of Bette Davis's eyes...I mean mouth. Gar's rendition of it is terrible! The way Bette says it, I would never think to spell it any way but "What a dump." But that's not the point! The point is how is "What a dump!" a immortal words?! Granted, you're probably now thinking to yourself, "Well, how did X and Y and Z become oft-quoted movie lines?!" (where X and Y and Z are actual phrases from movies and not just letters. But I'm not psychic so how should I know what terrible oft-quoted movie lines you were thinking of? Mine would have been "Seven schools in seven states and the only different is my locker combination" or "William H. Bonny. You are not a god?" "Why don't you pull the trigger and find out?" or "Ziggy Piggy! Ziggy Piggy! Ziggy Piggy! Ziggy Piggy!") I suppose one can't help what phrases the zeitgeist picks up on. According to the YouTube video of Bette Davis, "What a dump" is Bette's famous bitchy line from that movie I'd never heard of. I guess I just haven't traveled in the right circles! Although I have heard the phrase "What a dump!" Has everybody in the world been quoting Bette Davis all this time and I just didn't know it?! Was this movie the first time that phrase was ever uttered?! To think I could have known all of this if I hadn't been distracted by Starfire's side-boob and — I'm fairly certain — one of her outer labia. To shut Gar up, Starfire admits that she doesn't remember any of them and then she punches Pantha in her vagina.
Tumblr media
Starfire punching Pantha in the vagina is funnier than anything that Pantha has said in the last forty issues.
After punching Pantha in the vagina, Starfire knees Red Star in the balls for no reason. Unless the reason is that she's been wanting to do that for a long time and her pretend amnesia allows her this moment! I suppose I'd fake amnesia too to get away from being a Titan. I've been joking about seeing Starfire's outer labia but is this it? Is that one of those things?
Tumblr media
Is my boner proof that it's her labia or is my boner proof that I'm a comic book reading virgin nerd?
I can't wait for everybody to message me telling me how that can't be her outer labia because that's not where it would be and anyway this photographic proof I'm sending you is what one looks like! Then I can actually them and say, "Well, you can't know that for sure! She's an alien and maybe her outer labia is fully engorged due to Pantha back-fucking her!" Also I'd really enjoy some of that photographic evidence!
Tumblr media
This is not what I would do with those photographs.
Garfield turns into another monster because he can't do birds and rhinos anymore. He lies on top of Starfire and then reveals something that destroys every moment in DC canon where Garfield turned into a rhino to knock some hugely muscled bad guy on their ass. He tells Red Star, "Hey, I may be big and ugly but my mass doesn't change! I'm not as strong as she is!" Well fuck me! The whole concept of Beast Boy has been based on a huge lie! Or at least scientific principles that make the character utterly worthless. Why the fuck would he ever change into a huge beast if his mass doesn't change? Wouldn't he always change into something small and fast to be most effective?! This revelation is one of those moments where DC tries to make their universe more logical but only winds up fucking up the entire multiverse. Red Star and Changeling knock Starfire unconscious and then tie her up which probably isn't totally rapey at all, even if the artist draws it that way.
Tumblr media
Yep. Everything is just fine here! Move along.
Meanwhile on Earth, Arsenal, Aqualad, and Flash consider a proposal from the United States government to get the Titans to work for them. They consider it over a couple waters at a local strip club named Ding Dong Daddy's." I mean, the comic book calls it a "retro club" but everybody either gets a private lap dance or laid. It's hard to tell what Marv Wolfman was going for with this scene. Proof that the young cool Titan men fuck? Proof that women are only to provide relief for men's sexual desires? Proof that Aqualad should maybe think twice before saying "Hey guys! We came together!" when women are throwing their vaginas at them?
Tumblr media
How long does Aqualad think a lap dance takes?
Back in space while the reader was away, Red Star and Changeling have managed to put a gag on Starfire and tie her legs together. That makes things less rapey, right? If not, I'm sure Marv will improve the situation in a sensitive and professional manner!
Tumblr media
Oh come on!
Starfire remembers everything while Changeling whines about how he didn't get to kiss Starfire while she was tied up and scared and beaten and suffering from amnesia. Poor kid! Maybe next time! After regaining her memory, Starfire says, "X'hal! That was dick I saw in South America!" and I snicker like a twelve year old. The first decision Starfire makes after regaining her memory is that she and Dick should get their marriage annulled, if it even took which I'm pretty sure it didn't. If you were a fan of reading the letters pages, whoever the letter answer person was constantly kept pointing out that they couldn't be married because the priest blew up before he could say they were man and wife. But now Wolfman provides more evidence like how no paper work was filed and nobody signed anything (although don't you sign the papers before the ceremony?) Anyway, they're not married and probably never will be if the last twenty five years of reading comic books has taught me anything!
Tumblr media
Snicker!
Baby has an idea to use The Terraist's satellite as their new headquarters and the government is all, "Okay! But you have to work with us on a minimum number of yearly missions!" And Roy Harper is all, "That number is zero!" And the government is all, "Yes sir! What a deal! We will pay you a salary, give you the satellite, and get nothing in return! Let's shake on it!"
Tumblr media
Who the fuck is wearing The Flash's costume?! First appearance of New 52 Wally West?
The epilogue reveals Raven needs to rape the Titans so that they'll all give birth to Trigon's children. So it should be a fun few final issues before either this comic book was cancelled or I finally recovered my sanity and simply stopped buying it. New Titans #112 Rating: B. It was all kinds of stupid but I enjoyed making fun of it!

BOOKS COMPLETED IN JUNE 2019
(listed by order of completion)
Bookworm that I am, just thought I’d share.
I normally am in the middle of 2-3 books at any time because one in text, one in audiobook, and lately one in Chinese too because I’m trying to improve on that
SEA OF POPPIES by Amitav Ghosh / Feb.15, 2019 - June 10, 2019 / Set prior to the First Opium War a cast of characters all end up together on a ship from Calcutta to Mauritius.  / Ok, this took me waaaay too long to finish. It wasn’t that it wasn’t good. It was because I wasn’t really paying attention in the beginning which caused me to not have any of the characters’ identities straight in my head which made me have no momentum reading it because I didn’t know what was going on. But once I finally did figure out who everyone was it was good. One scenario that stands out in my mind is when one guy takes care of his shitty jail cellmate (and by shitty I mean literally covered in feces). But, you see, I still can’t remember names.
THE BEST COOK IN THE WORLD by Rick Bragg / May 30, 2019 - June 10, 2019 / (audiobook version) / Part memoir part cookbook of author’s mother’s recipes from the American south / I was in China for the last 2.5 months. I think I was missing food from back in the U.S. so picture me passing time on long Shanghai bus rides with descriptions of things like buttery biscuits and fried chicken being read to me 😂. Some parts felt like too much of the same thing over and over, but it was a good book to semi tune into while looking out of bus windows.
THE ALICE NETWORK by Kate Quinn / June 10, 2019  - June 12, 2019 / (audiobook version) / A young woman searching for her cousin finds out about the past of a woman who was recruited as a spy in France during WWI / To be honest I suspected going into this exactly what it was going to be but I still listened to it hoping it was gonna surprise me in someway. But nope. It’s another one of those historical fictions with a book cover that shows an image of someone from behind. And it’s that formula in which the author uses a present-day person to gradually reveal pieces of the past. Usually these things involve some sad story of women getting separated or an unfortunate romance or somebody’s child or friend or sister dying tragically but ultimately the present-day person learns a lot from it blah blah. And the past is supposed to be this big mystery but actually it’s pretty predictable for the reader. Another one that I remember being basically the same formula was Before We Were Yours.
BLACK BEAUTY (黑骏马)by Anna Sewell / April 28, 2019 - June 14, 2019 / Written from the perspective of a horse, you follow it as a young colt in a comfortable home through various other homes it lives in throughout the course of its life, sometimes getting kind treatment, sometimes incredibly inhumane. / I read this one in mandarin Chinese while following along in English for practicing my Chinese reading skills. I would guess my Chinese reading skills are at the level of a 9-10 year old. I read it at the pace of 30 minutes a day--a daily Chinese lesson. So now I know an abnormally large amount of vocabulary in Chinese pertaining to horses 🤣. All jokes aside, I felt so bad for the horses in this book though! omg!!! sob sob
REVOLUTION FOR DUMMIES: LAUGHING THROUGH THE ARAB SPRING by Bassem Youssef / June 13, 2019 - June 14, 2019 / (audiobook version) / The “Jon Stewart of the Arab World” takes you through his experience of creating political comedy that dared to make fun of and critique the Egyptian government. His program was similar to the Daily Show but with a whole lot more life-risking.  / This was very interesting. I don’t know that I ever laughed out loud even though it does have humor. I was more fascinated with just finding out his story.
EVERY DAY A FRIDAY: HOW TO BE HAPPIER 7 DAYS A WEEK by Joel Osteen / June 16, 2019 - June 18, 2019 /  A pastor gives his advice on how to appreciate life. / Yeah, sometimes I just want to read some inspirational stuff. I’m not really a religious person but I would say the pastor’s writing is suitable for anybody. To sum it up, he basically tells you to appreciate what you have.
THREE DARK CROWNS by Kendare Blake / June 11, 2019 - June 19, 2019 / Triplet girls, each with their own powers, have been kept apart for years and now are pitted against each other trying to kill one another because only one can be queen.  / Fun, dark YA read
THE WAR ON NORMAL PEOPLE by Andrew Yang / June 19, 2019 - June 20, 2019 / (audiobook version) / This is by the Andrew Yang who is one of the huge number of Democratic candidates. / Seriously, more people need to pay attention to the things this guy is saying. The stats he gives about how many jobs are going to be automated in the next few years...just wow. Totally eye-opening.
ONE DARK THRONE by Kendare Blake / June 20, 2019  - June 21, 2019 / (audiobook version) / 2nd book in the Three Dark Crowns trilogy / It’s not very long so I listened to the entire thing while I was doing the Felix from Stray Kids drawing.
THE WORLD AS IT IS: INSIDE THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE by Ben Rhodes / June 21, 2019 - June 26, 2019 / Author was a speechwriter, policymaker, and friend during Obama’s presidency. / Will make you long for the Obama era the entire time you are reading this.

Use These Five Issues To Become More Effective In Link Building
Most blogs have a comments section exactly where you, as the commenter, can fill in your website and a link will be integrated in your remark. I don't recommend this technique as most weblogs have code in the feedback that tells search engine not to follow the links in the feedback. This technique also makes your website appear like it uses spam-like techniques to get backlinks. Be concise. I guarantee you when it comes to proposals 'less is definitely more'. Invest your time writing relevant proposals which can be study quickly. A purchaser will contact you for much more info if they are interested. Speaking of Item Listings, I forgot to mention something, remember when you list an item that you want people to discover it. There are 1000's and 1000's of items for sale on Ebay, but your item will not sell unless of course a person can find it when they are looking, so use key phrases that will pull your item up easily. I use other adjectives as well such as uncommon or classic. These are often used phrases that will increase the amount of individuals who see your listing. If you really feel that your item is not obtaining enough hits, you can change the title whenever (besides for the last few hrs when eBay doesn't allow you to). You can also lower the price if you feel that you priced Uncle Harry's baseball cap as well higher. Local news outlets - If your business is based in Los Angeles, you're most likely not going to make into the LA Occasions, but if you are in West LA, you stand a good opportunity of getting a link from the Argonaut. Discover the local news supply in your community. Is your business preparing a large neighborhood services event? Invite a reporter! Did you just release an awesome new web site?! Allow them know how your company is expanding. Get that link! Whatever you're providing people, it needs to be free to produce, simple to e-mail and worth some thing. So an e-guide works well in most instances simply because it shouldn't cost much (if anything) to produce, is extremely simple to e-mail GSA verified list and could be valued at say $29.ninety nine. Of course, you don't want clients to know that you use drop shippers, or discover out your source. Consequently the fall shipper must use your title and deal with on package labels as nicely as invoices. GSA verified list This refers to optimizing your internet page by including your primary key phrases in the meta-tags, heading tags, sub headings, file names, picture descriptions, main content material, navigation links and anchor text (hyper linked text). Include a newsletter sign up link in the signature of all your outgoing email messages GSA verified list . You can consist of this in a PS at the base of your e-mail following your name and before your contact details. You initial of all you need to know that they have a cross link system, among other systems. You can't use something associated with your last account. Do not use your partner's title with the exact same address formerly listed on the previous eBay account because now that companion's name is tagged. Don't use that tagged companion's name with a new address, because now that new address is tagged. Don't use the exact same computer with the same IP to open up a new account below a new title and deal with, simply because the new title and address is now tagged. Don't use any software program (turbolister etc.), photos advertisements, or something related with your last account. You can promote the same products but for pictures always use eBay's image internet hosting and usually use various ads. Yahoo solutions could address link developing questions of internet marketers. The way it does so is easy. "Yahoo solutions" is a blog where anyone could ask a query. Anybody who could post an solution gets the reward of a link to his web site. So, naturally the query on link developing is answered. This is why it is said that "Yahoo answers" is able to solution link building concerns. How to use it: Over the past months I've build over 60 links to my sites utilizing this plan. 1 thing I adore about it is that all the links are frequently checked, so I can be certain that they are still energetic. Since all the links have classes, it's simple to choose links that are suitable to my content. Convert your link to a viral link: You need to use the in constructed viral link generator to convert your existing product link or site link to a viral link. This viral link has unique qualities which permit it to give you credits whenever your link is clicked. You can use both normal links as nicely as affiliate links to change to viral links. And instead of advertising your authentic link, you begin to market your newly produced viral link all over the location such as forums, post directories, social networking sites, and so on. You might be shocked to discover there are a lot of common issues that individuals do that get their names additional to e-mail spam lists. Because spam lists are offered and traded frequently, as soon as you are one one spam GSA verified list, you will soon be on many others. And as soon as your name is on 1 of these lists, you truly cant get it removed.
