Ive been bouncing fixtation to fixtation but ive been drawing really stupid deadplate stuff for a good week or two now so i thought maybe i should share them

re.: the weasleys + parenting

what's always bugged me most abt percy's fight with arthur (especially in the fandom, where everyone's like 'oh, he turned his back on harry and betrayed his family to side w the ministry) is that. that's hardly what the fight is about at all. the fight is about the fact that percy, an 18yo kid who just got promoted to his dream job instead of straight up losing any chance at ever being Minister (because they tried to scapegoat him into taking the blame for the crouch business even though he managed to keep the whole department running while his boss wasn't even there), comes home all excited to tell his parents that "Hey, he's not unemployed and bereft of any and all hope for his biggest dream", but rather that his skills and competence got recognized by The Most Important Man In The Government, and molly and arthur look him straight in the face and go—"no you didn't."

there is no mention whatsoever that they even try to be gentle about it, that they congratulate him first and then bring it up later like "just be careful around Fudge, he's always looking for people to get information from and you are the best of both worlds, close to the action and actually good at the job he hired you for", nothing of the sort. they straight up don't even consider how any of those factors might've weighed in Fudge's decision to hire him.

and, perhaps worst of all, they have no faith in Percy. he tells them "I'm working for the minister", and not only do they not spare a second to be happy for him over this frankly momentous achievement (or at the very least concern for the position it puts him in), they jump straight to conjectures and accusations. "you only got this because of Harry" has got to crush Percy, who was raised to believe that good things come to honest, hard-working people and who has been working for this since he was a small child. and it digs the knife deeper when you realize that most of his siblings have basically replaced him with Harry. Harry, who also plays Quidditch and also keeps throwing himself into death-defying dangers and overalls fits much better into the family dynamic than Percy ever has.

and there's just this. crystal clear implication that they do believe Percy would spy on them. he's so Different and Other and Un-Weasley/Gryffindor-like and they've alienated themselves from him so absolutely that they can't see any reasons he wouldn't willingly and consciously jeopardize his parents' livelihood and Harry & his siblings safety just to stay in the Minister's good graces, when if anyone's actually at risk of losing their job for siding with Dumbledore is his father, who's still working there quite merrily and continues to so for a long time afterwards.

Percy, who runs into a freezing lake mid-February while attending an international event as Crouch's replacement to make sure Ron is alright, who pesters Ginny to eat and have a pepper-up potion most of her first year bc she doesnt look well, who tails Harry and Ron a lot of their second and third years bc there's something petrifying kids and then Dementors on the grounds and a mass murderer on the loose and they all just think he's being willfully bothersome like no you idiots he's worried.

of course he left. of course he left. what did he have to gain by staying at the Burrow, beyond fresh home cooked meals harassment and disagreements? why wouldn't he leave?

I don't even feel like I need to add anything as you summed up the Percy situation perfectly.

But I can't help myself because I love discussing the Weasley family dynamics, so it's a bit more rumbley than my usual...

Percy cares so much for his family. When Voldemort is revealed and the war actually starts, he puts all his disagreements with his parents aside to come and help and make sure they're okay, because he cares. And still, he is being shunned and treated like an outsider.

Arthur and Molly Weasley are just really good at alienating their kids because it isn't just Percy.

Somehow all of them succeded in feeling like outsiders in a family of 9. Bill shows frustration with his parents and only returns to Britain because of the war, Charlie's in Romania for most of the series. Fred and George run away the moment they can and are treated like trouble by their parents most of the time (Molly and Arthur assume they are selling stolen goods from Mundungus when they hear they have money, not that they, idk, somehow earned it), Ron has a whole complex of low self-esteem and a tendency to blame himself for everything. Ginny is isolated from her brothers as the only girl and youngest...

And Percy cares and tries to be the best and most responsible sibling and gets scorned in turn.

Harry and Ron do acknowledge Arthur's and Molly's accusation towards Percy was awful and that he was right to respond negatively in OOTP. Ron is just sensitive about their family's financial state which soured Percy to him after Percy blew up at their dad (rightfully so, honestly, I'd say way worse to Arthur if it was me).

The thing is, Percy also gets scorned by his siblings, not just his parents (like Fred and George do). He gets grief for trying to be responsible and for wanting his siblings to do well in school and not get in trouble, Fred and George lock him in a pyramid...

That being said, do I think Percy is perfect? No, he is pretentious and overbearing at times, but he is a child in a large family who tries to find a place to fit himself in. According to child psychology, usually when it comes to siblings, the eldest would usually (at least in childhood) try to be everything the parents want (Bill), and then each next sibling will carve a different niche for themselves, and we see this with the Weasleys. I think the twins being born right after Percy and demanding a lot of attention from their parents from a young age as they were little troublemakers from the start is a big reason why Percy chose the niche of being bookish, ambitious, and responsible for himself. To contrast himself with them and his older brothers and get some attention from their parents.

I'm not a fan of the epilog (like everyone), but I find it hard to imagine Percy being close to his family post-books. I think he never fully got over the sting of not being seen as skilled and competent and that his parents believed he'd turn on them all without a second thought. Nor do I think he should just get over it.

Like, I'm really salty that Percy was the only one to apologize:

“I was a fool!” Percy roared, so loudly that Lupin nearly dropped his photograph. “I was an idiot, I was a pompous prat, I was a—a—” “Ministry-loving, family-disowning, power-hungry moron.” said Fred. Percy swallowed. “Yes, I was!” “Well, you can’t say fairer that that,” said Fred, holding out his hand to Percy. Mrs. Weasley burst into tears. She ran forward, pushed Fred aside, and pulled Percy into a strangling hug, while he patted her on the back, his eyes on his father. “I’m sorry, Dad.” Percy said.

Like, yes, it's great he was smart enough to realize the ministry is corrupt, but this demand only for him to apologize when Molly and Arthur Weasley were just as much in the wrong. Fred and George weren't beacons of sainthood here either. But none of them have apologies demanded of them. None of them are demanded to confess they are "morons". Just Percy.

Who even after his apology is still an outsider. Probably always will be one.

it doesnt help that vax, scalan, percy and matt all sound the same to me. i know it's scanlan when theres a dick joke or a song. and percy has a fucking gun? lmao. but then vax or matt start talking in the same vaguely british accent and it becomes a game of context clues to figure out who's speaking :(

13. Dementia: this one is about how fucked up they feel their mental state and their memory problems is.

Return to Hell: it's about their return and recent experiences and how much they hate being treated differently and how everyone seems to lack basic human decency being up in their case abouttheir mental health as if they cared and threatening the girl who was saying they where bald and wearing saying they where going to make her bald if she didn't leave them alone.

15. Pretender: it's about how they feel about Irme and how they feel fake even if their being truthful but they don't mind him being a pretender since they do it to so people leave them alone.

16. Birdcage: it's about how they feel about Nia and how they feel she betrayed them even do that doesnt chage the fact she changed her friend to birdcage and how she doesnt talk and MC unleashes a verbal butchery on how she should talk to them instead of pretending to be in a birdcage.

17. Migraine: it's about how they feel about Lorcan and how sorry they feel for him even do he's an asshole who gave everything to Orla and didn't get anything back for his troubles.

18. 3 Way Street: this one is about the quests and what happened in them.

19. Green Card [yes the name was intentional]: it's a Savage Diss track aimed towards the mayor for being useless as a mayor the delivery is delivered in a mocking manner and it's aimed to get under his skin which it does.

20. Bad comedy: this one is about the revelation of MC's parent at the end of the current game and how they feel they have been lied to and how their life feels like a joke.

Regarding 19. Actually the mayor didn’t get into the country on a green card. I can’t say anything more about that but yeah no green card especially since I’ve never specified if the town is in the US or Canada and that the mayor came to English-speaking North America before the creation of the green card as we know it in the 40s. Also that man doesn’t listen to modern day music nor would he be angry at anything like a diss track, he would find it childish if he let a child anger him.

Imre finds his song very funny, and completely inaccurate in his motives. But is it the most catchiest to him.

Nia thinks her song is incredibly stupid and is surprised that mc seems to know her so little. No song gets stuck in her head but does like birds of a feather.

Lorcan thinks your full of shit of you think you know anything about his relationship with Orla. She might’ve hated you but she didn’t hate him. She gave him more than you can ever think. Nothing gets stuck in his head because he refuses to listen to anything else.

Victor & Prudence: hell will freeze over before these two ever sit down and listen to an album, apart from the fact they think it’s idiotic for mc to do this they also bemoan the state of modern music. Back in their day…

Sally: goes in one ear and out the other. He takes the songs at face value and doesn’t really listen to the lyrics, consciously or obliviously? Who knows. Mister sunshine gets stuck in his head, he actually does think it’s a happy song.

Percy: ridicules the songs about him. More than that, actually he verbally insults you and says that if he hears that album in the house the rug will be set on fire

Orla: laughs just laughs and laughs to the point of wiping tears. Tells you to find an career because clearly this isn’t for you. Also because you insist on talking about her trauma with no right she’ll expose things about you, it’s only fair right?

btw my physical traits headcanons (btw i like to headcanon that all countries have the same face as their 2ps, 3ps, and Nyos... kind of mirror version but technically related instead)

kuro is kinda toned but NOT buff, slight pear shape, very slight belly. basically his base body shape is just like Kiku's (literal identical twins haha) but he eats more carbs and sweets than salty foods, and despite training his body often he still has a small tummy. just like kiku, his face is soft and gentle but since he usually is frowning he doesnt look as youthful as kiku does. 5'05"

oliver has some muscle (again, not buff) but hes much more chubby and soft, more triangular shaped with bigger thighs. round face, round eyes, round nose, etc, and has a bit smaller hands than most guys despite being the tallest out of everyone. light patch in his hair in his bangs, and he is partially deaf and has back issues so he arches it often... also is pigeon-toed and cant really help that. wears a heading aid. 6'01"

kiku is a bit toned with a slight pear shaped body, skinny boy. hes actually underweight, though he eats a bit more than average, he just has a high metabolism... he has softer and more gentle features since he canonly looks younger than the other characters despite being older and i think thats funny. 5'05"

arthur is thin and kind of curveless, tho his fingers and such are a bit longer than average so i would say hes a bit lanky? round face, nose, and eyes... and a little pathetic looking i suppose.. hes puppy. more upside down triangle shaped but its not super noticable off the bat (he and oliver are reversed body shapes, though are also identical twins) but he looks a bit older somehow?? sometimes he gets white hairs haha. 5'09"

now for the 3p ocs who will have more info bc... theyre ocs:

percy is very thin... very underweight, he forgets to eat. like arthur, he's a tad lanky, and his features are round like his siblings. though theyre slightly slimmer, and he is older looking from always being exhausted or stressed. he has albinism, and his hair is messy and kinda thinner than average, the pupils of his eyes are light with a reddish hue. chapped af cracked lips that are slightly purple, like his fingertips. he also has physical disabilities that you cant see with just a glance. 5'08"

hiroshi is, also, very underweight, though thats because he just doesnt like food for random amounts of time, and other times eats a ton of cheese, fruits, and noodles. same exact face as kiku and kuro, but thinner and more tired looking. has more ashy-toned skin since he only goes out during/after sunset, lol. he also has a drooling problem, produces too much saliva, and just kind of stopped caring after thousands of years of dealing with it. hiroshi has proportionate dwarfism, and has a few physical disabilities that you cant see with a just single glance. 4'07"

i used to get picked on and judged for not making characters buff and instead making them anywhere from plus sized to petite by multiple friend groups, i drew literally everything but buff men including more muscular WOMEN,, but yknow... misogyny... but now im not really as afraid of it because everybody should have freedom to draw a character how they want as long as its not harmful/hateful/fetishy, be it buff, twink, curvy, chubby, fluffy, skinny, etc

I imagine Percy is the type of person where if he doesn't have people to eat with it creates a significant shift in his eating habits.

Like going from eating lunch early in the afternoon to pushing lunch back by 3 hours because he's not hungry anyway and doesnt want to stop what he's doing and then 3 hours later unsurprisingly he is starving

or eating a sleeve of crackers in his room for lunch because "why spend so much time in the kitchen cooking if it's just for one person" and "Why sit at the dinner table when no one else is there"

Having Frufru helps make the behavior less severe in the sense that he at least eats more regularly but she has little effect on his actual diet.

The AU was originally just some patched together ideas but!! I have some more consistent thoughts about it now.

This AU takes place about 5 months before Sweet Jazz Museum is announced to the public.

Molly still runs the shop like in canon, but she does it with help of two plushies she got from her mother who "watch the counter" while she stocks things.

As this takes place around the holiday, Molly is putting up some festive toys and things. She admires the glass rabbit figurines she displays.

She soon gets a call from Feenie inviting her to a charity ball/masquerade in a week! It was to celebrate the opening of the Sweet Jazz museum. The things people would give would instead be antiques rather than money to display in the museum.

Molly is excited! She has that day off AND she sewed the cutest accessory to go with a dress she had in the back.

But the excitement would soon wear off when Lorelai 'accidentally' ruined her dress and her Dad left her in charge of the shop. Even though he promised...

Exhausted from school and the night of running the shop yesterday- her eyelids began to grow heavy. And soon Slyvie would appear from the Ether.

[insert fairy goddoctor rules here] Sylvie grants her wish of wanting to go to the ball, creates her dress, turns the glass rabbit figurine into glass slippers, and gives her a sheep steed.

The only caveat is that his magic wears off at 12, and that everyone in question will remember her as a dream they cant quite recall. To keep track of the time and to call upon him, he gives her his pocket watch.

Mollys like alright lets go. She arrives at the party and everythings great!! The Ball is fancy, theres great food, interesting people, but more importantly her friends!!

About an hour of goofing around in the halls, eating appetizers, checking out the pretty antiques, and talking go by in a flash.

In the middle of their discussion of paranormal things- Feenie suddenly notices the Family Heirloom she was wearing, suddenly vanished.

The heirloom in question is a golden bell with beautiful carvings, and a latch on the clapper to keep it from ringing. No one has dared to use it, as it puts people to sleep. Some people say only a day, others say forever.

Thus trio panics and Molly goes to eavesdrop on people, playing it safe. She doesnt believe in her epithet abilities at this point so she simply uses them to listen to an obviously shady guy.

That shady guy was Giovanni, stealing silverware and food for his precious minions. Because DUH stealing from the rich is COOL!! But he explains he'd never steal a stupid bell.

Giovanni soon finds all his boys knocked out in the hall adjacent to where he just was. NOW THIS WAS PERSONAL MATTER OF PRIDE. He shall help the kid. He shall name her bear trap uwu

Molly, Feenie, Trixie and Giovanni team up ((after trixie and gios initial spiderman point at eachother)) to investigate where the people who stole the bell are and why they stole it in the first place.

Upon arriving to see Howie Honeyglow asleep (standing up?!), the Fleecity family guards arrives as well. She introduces herself as Percy, in her spare time she is a Private Investigator and wishes to aid the group in their search for information of the perpetrator in return.

The thing that is baffling the group the most is that there were shadowed figures following giovanni before he found his boys knocked out, how they stole it off of Feenie with out anyones notice, and how it seems that problems outside of the bell keep arising.

Molly eventually cracks the code that maybe the bell was just a red herring- and that perhaps the perpetrator(s?) were after something bigger. Something better. Something IMPOSSIBLE to steal in front of crowds of hundreds. That is- unless the crowd was asleep. They are after the green amulet that was featured in the display. It was the main piece.

A insanely muscular butler kidnaps them and throws them in a makeshift jail after their revelation of figuring out who it was. Indus apologizes to the group for the inconvenience, however he must do what he must to serve his lady.

Though to everyones surprise, Indus informs them he and his lady didnt get it from Feenie. They got it from Ramsey (who happened to be in the cell with them) who Giovanni remembers from his training guide and Percy just cant seem to remember what his name reminds her of.

Molly realizes oh shit his lady may be in big ass trouble, if ramsey or indus or mera didnt knock out Giovannis boys- then who did?

Indus releases the group under the condition that he must save his lady (and thanks them for the tip/favor). The group splits up to find Mera, and hopefully not run into danger

Uh oh molly runs into danger! Mera is the danger. She was about to put the entire hall of people to sleep with the bell.

Molly and mera have their stand off and in true epithet fashion, Meras ass gets kicked by Molly using her epithet in combination with Giovanni (and this time percy as well!)

From an outside perspective, we see Zora and Yoomtah confirming that the Arsene Amulet is going to be at Sweet Jazz Museum to their boss. Yoomtah is giggling at the sight of the fight from outside.

Before mera completely gets knocked out Mollys dress is torn by mera. Molly excuses herself to patch up her dress and when she returns- Giovanni points out that her mask has gone missing

Oh no. Its twelve. (the rest can be seen the in the clock strikes twelve post)

In Percy and Gios perspective, they are looking for someone they cant quite remember. Percy urgently feels as if she must return this glass rabbit figurine- to whom she doesnt know. And even though all of Giovannis boys have woken up, he feels like one is missing.

The two decide to team up once more to track down the mystery person. With a lil help from ramsey on the side.

They eventually track down the person in question! Said person is a 12 year old girl, with a bear hoodie and curly hair with stars. They know her as a friend. And that friend is currently getting scolded for not watching the store yesterday night.

Giovanni is about to go HAM on whoever this jackass of a dude is, but percy cuts in a proceeds to roast the shit out of him for making his minor child all by herself tirelessly.

Giovanni takes this opportunity to "kidnap her" (take her to get ice cream) and soon Percy joins in. Molly realizes maybe her life isn't hopeless at all ;w;

marauders raising the weasleys part 7 !!!!! (long awaited i’m so sorry but here it is)

- james has gotten each of the kids their own stuffie and they’ve all absolutely adored it , charlie got a dragon (“actually, i think it’s a lizard dad”) percy got a lion, fred and george both got cats, ron got a turtle, and ginny got a giraffe !! they all treasure them, yes even bill, who takes his stuffed cow to hogwarts with him

- lily has a habit of taking pictures and videos of the kids for memories, and so for mother’s day or her birthday, bill takes her camera and films all the kids rambling things about her that they love !!! (ron; “i love mommy’s hair!!” , fred; “mom dances with me around the kitchen!!” )

- when bill was little, he’d get anxious around people and they had to commute to get to his school, so sirius would let him trace words and stars on his arms to help him calm down !! even as a teenager, bill still gets anxious and you can 100% find him seated next to sirius, tracing words and sirius rambling off “did you just trace fuck on my arm you menace”

- the “baby star” charlie has never ever ever been embarrassed of his nickname and one day went to school with tiny star stickers pressed on his cheeks and refused to take them off all day

- ^ he wanted to go as a star for halloween one year but settled on being a cowboy

- percy had to do a project on the solar system one year, but the kids kept bother him when he tried to work on it, so he made them the solar system. charlie was the sun, ron was earth, harry was mercury, ginny was pluto, fred was uranus, george was jupiter, bill was mars! (and yes, the boys joined in james was saturn, sirius was venus, and peter was neptune)

- percy got a 100% simply because remus talked to his teacher before hand and honestly, the project was what was asked of him

- uncle regulus steals a kid for a day !! he does steal one quite often, and they always come back sun kissed and candy filled and they ramble on and on about how “uncle reggie took me to the beach !! we made shell necklaces look mom look !!!”

- speaking of, regulus 100% has pictures of each kid in his wallet because he loves them and shows off his niece and nephews to anyone who listens !! and he takes them whenever he can and teaches them about the stars and wishes and shows them pranks to pull on sirius

- peter got roped into being the parent to go to parent-teacher night for all the kids (bet gone wrong) and he had to explain to fred’s, bills, and ron’s teacher that he was not a single parent and he did not need advice, he was perfectly capable despite the fact that george switched places with fred on the way there

- GEORGE HAS A FLOWER COLLECTION AND A FLOWER FOR EACH OF HIS PARENTS !! everytime he sees that specific flower he has to pick it and rush home to give it to them !! “daddy look look ! i got you a flower!”

- charlie and james do infact what the sunrise every morning because they’re the first people up !!! james makes charlie some hot chocolate (“extra mallows please!!”) and they wrap up in a blanket on the porch !! james tells charlie stories , or sometimes they sit silence, but it’s one of their favorite times of day !! (sometimes remus wakes up and joins them !)

- peter broke his arm once and ginny and percy decorated his cast and would get super mad if anyone else tried to write on it !

- ron really likes to act like he’s a zombie, for some reason (it’s sirius’ fault) ans makes james run around the house so ron can try to catch him

- fred at some point picked up an american accent and talked with it for weeks , lily has no idea where he got it but she 100% joins in because it irritates the boys and puts a huge smile on fred’s face

- JAMES TEACHES BILL AND GINNY HOW TO PLAY THE GUITAR AND GETTS TRHEM GUITARS FOR THEIR BIRTHDAYS AND AT SOME POINT THEY START PLAYING HIM SONGS AND HE DOESNT CRY (yes he does)

- as ron gets older, the nickname “jellybean” doesn’t stick, but lily is the only person that is allowed to call him “bean” ; “bean, come here let me fix your hair” , “james stops thats bean’s book!!”

- ginny takes a little too much after remus , and her “anger issues” are very much present from an early age, so remus himself works with her on how to properly calm down and convey her emotions !! he finds that taking her on broom rides helps a lot, so despite not liking flying, he still does for his little girl !!

- charlie only eats grape flavored candies and so peter has a tiny pouch full of grape flavored suckers and candy labeled with “star’s sweets” that he takes everywhere

- peter is also the one you can see most with the bay carrier, as he almost always has ron or ginny strapped to his chest , and he looks like a suburban dad but he’s the absolute greatest with the babies (better then james and remus atleast)

- the marauders have “dad #1 , #2, #3 , and #4” sweaters that they wear at any school event and when lily can’t make it they look like stressed gay parents trying to cope with 8 kids and they never correct the assumptions

After Percy apparates the Weasley family stand there trying to process the new information.

Percy had a wife who was a pregnant and they're both dead.

George feels like such an arse for blaming Percy. He doesn't know how to react, he doesn't know what to do or say or anything so he just stands there trying to think of something.

He's been so selfish, thinking only about himself not caring about others feelings and now he had a what, a nephew? No he doesn't because he's dead.

Dead.

Dead.

He hates that word, he hates everything associated with that word. He hates it, hates it, hates it.

George tries to take a deep breath and closes his eyes, he cannot deal with his family right now so he does a Percy and disappears in his(and Fred's) room.

Molly needs to sit down, she really needs to sit down. Her head is throbbing and her heart aching for the dead. She remembers Penelope Clearwater. How can she not?

The 16 yr old Percy had spoken so fondly of his girlfriend then about how he thinks he's in love with her and so worried about letting her down. And now considering the fact that she's now his wife, Molly understands how much he had cherished her.

To think that that sweet girl is now dead doesnt sit right with Molly. It doesn't seem fair.

Percy's son is dead. Her grandson is dead.

Molly lost her son, but she has people around her to help her through the grief but Percy? Percy had noone to help him and that makes her heart ache.

Molly thinks about the grandson she could have had. She thinks about how he would have had Percy's features.

Molly weeps for her daughter-in-law, for her first grandson, but more importantly she weeps for Percy who had to go through all that alone.

Arthur can't comprehend the information. He can't picture it. He doesn't know who Penelope Clearwater, he wish he did. She sounds like a lovely girl.

Sounded, he corrects himself.

Arthur wonders if Penelope was still alive, would Percy and him still be separated, still be fighting? He wonders whether Percy would have come to him for advice on being a father. Arthur wonders about the what ifs but he also knows he has to focus on the now.

He's lost a son, so has Percy. And maybe they can repair their relationship and get over their grief together.

Arthur doesn't cry, he has to be strong for his family but when Percy tells him he was going to name him Lance as a nod to Lancelot, he locks himself in the bathroom and cries softly for the grandson he never had.

Bill is worried, not for Percy but for Fleur and that sounds so selfish but he can't help think about his child. He's pacing around the house, his scars itching and his mind running.

He was supposed to be the elder brother, the one who takes care of them and Percy having to go through that alone, it's a torture. Bill hates himself. He should have done something, said something but nothing. He did nothing.

He's still thinking about it when he feels her hand on his and Fleur just gives him this reassuring smile which relaxes him immediately.

Fleur won't be like Percy's wife. She won't die.

Fleur holds her husband's hand and thinks about her brother-in-law, the one who is different drom others. In some way she feels that they have a bond of being outsiders.

She thinks about the boy she met at the tournament, the look of fear same as hers when she couldn't save Gabrielle. The way he waded into the water towards his brother, all dignity forgotten.

Fleur remembers the boy who was scared for his brother. In a way she understands why Percy left. The Weasley family might look perfect from the outside but she was mistreated as well by her mother-in-law, something that she hasn't yet apologised for.

Losing a child is the worst thing imaginable. Fleur doesn't have a child, but she does have a little sister, who she cared for like a mother, so she understands.

Fleur looks at her stomach thinking about her child, she wishes that it doesn't end up as Percy's. She wishes desperately that she lives and so does she.

Charlie sits on the grass outside and wonders. He never really understood love. Oh sure he understood that his parents and siblings and friends loved him and he loved them back too,but romance? Not his department. He'd rather be with his dragons.

But Charlie does know that mother dragons get extremely depressed when their young die at an early age. It is absolutely awful, they wail and refuse to eat and would rather die with their young than live. Even months later you would see them with their dead young.

And if Percy had managed to go through that absolute hell and not drink himself to a coma, Charlie was proud of him. He really was. On the other hand he was aware that his nephew was dead.

Charlie sits next to Bill and crys softly on his shoulder. Bill's hand on his hair the only comfort.

Ron does what he does best, he tells Harry and Hermione about it because they're his family too and he needs to know how to react.

Hermione is devastated, she knew Penelope at Hogwarts and hearing about her death is a shock. Hermione leaves to be alone and neither Ron nor Harry object. They both understand. Ron felt the same when he heard that Lavendar died.

Harry asks Ron,"Where's Percy?"

Ron shrugs and tells him," He just apparated away."

Harry says he'll find him for Ron and gives him a weak smile and apparates away. Ron thinks he should not have told Harry about this because he knows Harry would think that it's his fault and -

Ron breathes. He does not cry. He should. But the tears won't fall.

What's wrong with him? His brother's fiance is dead, his nephew is dead and he can't even cry for them. It's pathetic.

Maybe he does have an emotional range of a teaspoon.

Ron feels horrible about not feeling horrible. But with so many deaths, he's just tired. He wants to feel good for once and then his brother says this and....

He's a horrible person.

Ron sits in his room of orange and wonders when he'll feel blue.

Ginny doesn't stay with her family, instead she takes her broom and soars into the sky, for fresh air.

The winds in her hair as she maneuvers her broom around trees and going further away from the Burrow so she can escape the madness.

But Penelope Clearwater's face doesn't escape her mind.

And for a minute, Ginny can't breathe..

She flies and lands on the ground, full of life as she glances at the Lovegood cottage on top of the hill.

Luna should know about this. She knew Penelope.

Ginny knew her too.

An 11 year old Ginny had walked in on Percy and her kissing. And it was intense and embarrasing.

No younger sibling should ever see that again.

That same 11 year old Ginny had threatened Penelope to not break Percy's heart and she hadn't.

Her heart died instead.

Ginny is angry at Percy for not telling her, she is angry at herself for not knowing and that anger turns into tears as she realises she's upset.

Penelope was nice to her after the whole first year incident. She even helped her study once. It's just not fair.

Ginny should be used to losing people by now but she's not. Everytime she hears someone is dead, her heart constricts and she realised that the ending of war is not an end to anything.

There is no "happily ever after"

She doesn't even think about the baby. She can't even think of Teddy being an orphan, how can she think about this baby's death?

However it's not just any baby, it's her nephew. She could have been an aunt and there were so many things she could do and-

He's dead, just like his mother who Ginny never had to chance to know about either.

For once, Ginny wishes she could be young again, maybe a toddler or a child, one who still was naive about the world and did not know the aftereffects of the war.

But she's not.

She's old enough to know that her brother needs her right now.

She has to tell Luna about it too. As she glances back at the blue cottage, she thinks to herself, 'not today'.

With determination on her face and sorrow in her heart, Ginny makes her way back to the Burrow.

Snowy Favours

i wrote this for one of my favourite humans in the entire world! @queen-of-demons-and-hell i just kind of forgot to post it on here oops

She smells coffee. And then pancakes, and then freshly squeezed orange juice. And suddenly she's three days into a Indonesian island holiday and there's sun streaming through her windows and the sheets draped over her bared skin are cool and if she opens her eyes she'll be met with ruffling lace curtains and the sight of the ocean just over the deck.

Annabeth Chase wakes up to silence. To darkness. To New York plunged into winter as if Khione had taken her rage out on the city over night. Snow covers the concrete buildings, already turning sloppy and muddied with the trek of never ending people. She is nowhere near Indonesia, nor in a villa overlooking blue waters. She is in her grungy apartment in her more-mattress-than-bed bed and the single window in her bedroom looks out onto the brick of the building next to her. In short its just another Monday morning.

The disappointment that floods through her is breathtaking. She feels her life swallow her up, wrapping around her lungs and squeezing as if it had taken lessons from a python. Her fingers curl around the duvet pulled over her as she stares at the wall, at the pictures littering it. She takes a deep breath, another, another. Slowly the python loosens, her heart returns to it's normal rhythm.

Glancing at the small pink clock on her bedside table she almost groans as she sees the time. Three minutes till her alarm rings. Not enough to dive back into bed but enough to consider it anyway. She forces herself to get up, feeling the cool of the wood under her feet and traipses to the bathroom where she is met with tile, the sudden cold pulls a hiss from her.

With a zombied look in her eyes she goes about her morning routine: pee, teeth, shower, change, scrounge around in empty cupboards for something at least half edible, scarf another energy bar when nothing better makes itself known, and then finally pack her bag and make her way out. She can do it with her eyes closed by now, sometimes she even does.

Still as she steps into the biting air that comes with snow her body wakes up considerably. With a curse that middles Greek and English, she twists her scarf tighter around her neck and pulls her beanie over her ears. She decides she can spare a moment to go to her favourite coffee shop this morning just to throw down a hot drink that hopefully scorches her insides.

With a determined step she sets off to the subway, earbuds shoved into her ears blaring "do re mi" by blackbear. A violent song for this early in the morning but one she mumbles along to all the same.

The coffee shop, as she so lovingly calls it, is more like a caravan sized hole wedged between two skyscrapers. It fits maybe five people comfortably, ten if you're looking to be smothered. But the coffee is beyond magical and they have the most decadent blueberry muffins she's ever had the pleasure to eat. Besides her best friend works here and really if anyone can turn her from bruised-eyed zombie to semi-human it's Percy Jackson.

The door creaks as she steps through, announcing her presence. She's too busy basking in the warmth of the little hovel to worry about the greeting thrown her way.

"Gods it's cold out there." She sucks in a breath, feeling her lungs defrost.

"Yes," Percy grins, "I suppose someone pissed off Khione again."

She rolls her eyes, as her body collapses against the black marble counter. "Khione gets pissed off about everything that's hardly an excuse to give us all frostbite."

"I suggest you take that up with her, because I cannot see any of us coming out alive after that conversation."

"Just give me a coffee you menace," She scrunches her nose in distaste, but cannot keep the playfulness out of her voice.

"Want a blueb?" He shakes a paper bag, something thumping inside. "On the house." The accompanying wink sets her cold skin on fire.

Her eyes narrow as she surveys him. His unruly black curls are kept back by three butterfly shaped clips, bright pink and probably Estelle's, and his skin browner— like dark roast coffee— from the weekend his family had taken in Spain three weeks before glows softly under the warm yellow light hanging above then. The black polo neck he wears under his "Holed Up" company t-shirt, makes his eyes look darker than normal. His jeans, faded blue, stand stark against the rest of his outfit. Even like this, in work appropriate clothes, he looks beautiful. Looks like the beginning of spring, and the happily ever after of stories, and the change of tides.

"What are you planning?" His look of incredulity almost makes her laugh.

"Why would you think I'm up to anything?"

"I've known you since we were twelve Jackson," She scoffs, as if his question is ridiculous in itself. "I know every face, every expression, every movement of your body. I know when you're up to something." She finishes off with a glare for good measure.

His green eyes are bright as he studies her, emotions warring across his face. To spill or not to spill. He pushes her coffee across the counter and she looks at him expectantly as she grabs the cup with both hands. Her numb fingers instantly start to sting with the sudden change in temperature.

"Fine." He sighs, looking at her through his lashes as if maybe be could get away with not telling her. She raises a brow. He curses under his breath and flops down on a chair hidden behind the counter.

"I need your help with something—"

Yes, of course, is on the tip of her tongue. She would do it. No hesitation. There's not much, not anything, she wouldn't do for him.

"But before you say no or worse get mad you have to hear me out." He finishes quickly. And then his eyes are big and pleading and she doesn't know if she wants to turn away or lean in closer, study that captivating green like it's the newest find in her paleontology class.

Instead she clears her throat, "What is it Percy?"

"I need you to be my fake girlfriend." He says it in one breath.

She almost asks him to repeat in case she hadn't heard right. But she knows she did. She knows she couldn't have heard anything else

He swallows. She blinks. He drops his head to his hands, a sigh already on his lips. She opens her mouth, snaps it shut.

"Okay I know it's...odd," He starts, "But I kind of got roped into going to a mixer with some people from my class and this one guy asked if we could go together but I don't really like him so I said no." Percy was rambling but she was too speechless to stop him. "But then he looked really hurt and I felt really bad so I kind of said I already had a partner which made him look less hurt but then Piper, the girl hosting the mixer, over heard me and said I should bring my partner along, since a few of them were bringing their partners, and you know I couldn't exactly back out of the lie after that so I said I would and well..." He gestures between them. "Then this happened."

Annabeth takes a sip of her coffee. And another, she downs almost half the cup before she has the ability to talk. "Why don't you just say your partner is sick on the day?"

It's her first question and instantly she wants to take it back. Because the flinch Percy tries to hide is enough to have her scrambling for a way to take back the words. Because it's not that she won't be Percy's (fake) partner, or even that she doesn't want to.

It's more that she doesnt know if she'll be able to draw the line between fake gestures and her very real feelings. Having a crush on someone for the better part of eight years tends to tug at her emotional side in a way that overules her logical one. Yes she can be Percy's fake girlfriend. No her heart won't believe the lopsided grin he gives her when he makes a bad joke will be 'just for show'. Yes she can hold hands with him and meet his friends. No she can't help the jump in her stomach as she sees the interlaced fingers.

"You don't have to." He says quietly. "I'll think of something." He waves it off, a small smile already finding its way onto his face. She knows, even without careful study, that it doesn't quite reach his eyes. She has to fix this.

"No." It comes out in a snap of rushed regret. "I will, I want to."

He looks at her, gaze wide, hesitant. "You do?"

She nods and then, as if the gesture isn't good enough stumbles through her words. "Yes, I want to." Her smile is shy, but the beam she's rewarded with nearly knocks her off her feet. "I think it'll be fun."

He scoffs at her, waving a hand. "Everything we do is fun. We're Percy and Annabeth."

And he says it's like there's no other way their names could be said. Like if someone says his hers must follow. Like if someone says hers his cannot possibly be far behind. He says it like they belong.

Her heart does a giddy sort of flip that spreads warmth through her chest and in her stomach, better than the coffee ever could.

"Okay Percy Jackson." She holds out her hand, to shake on. "Let's pretend to be madly in love."

With a wink, that causes her brain to explode, he takes her hand in his and turns it over before placing a delicate kiss on her knuckles.

She becomes the air itself. And as she floats to lectures she decides maybe it's not just another Monday. Maybe she did wake up in a paradise of sorts. Maybe life isn't so dull. She laughs to herself.

It can never be dull if Percy is there. It never has.

Nico and Will! For the couple meme

Gives forehead kisses

This is Will - definitely. Mainly because he has the height advantage between the two, but I'd like to believe the gesture really helps in calming Nico down and helping him relax.

A gentle reminder that he isn't alone and that he's safe.

Gets jealous the most

Nico. Although this isn't because he doesn't trust Will. It's more of a low self-esteem thing. He firmly believes that he doesn't deserve Will, and that he would be better off with someone who was not as "messed up" as he was.

Picks the other up from the bar when they're too drunk to drive

I have a headcount that, down the line/ when everyone gets older, Nico drinks quite often. Not so much that it's an issue, but it's definitely habit. So I would say this would be Will.

I also believe that Will would be that person who wouldn't take part in anything that could potentially risk his ability to help others. (And the boy definitely likes to help others - just reread his entire appearance in Blood of Olympus. He's a helper.) So drinking, smoking - stuff like that - he wouldn't touch. So he is everyone's DD.

Takes care of on sick days

Pretty sure the obvious answer here would be Will, since a good chunk of his character is being the camp's doctor and such. But I'd like to believe this is both Nico and Will.

The two of them are a team. If one person is down for the count, you can count on the other half to really come to the rescue and help them down the road to recovery.

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day

Oh WILL - no doubt.

Nico hates being in the ocean. Being on it, like on a ship or on a canoe? That's fine. But being IN the water? No.

It would take a lot of coaxing, but with a pout here and a puppy dog look there, Will can get Camp Half-Blood's resident Ghost King to wade in the shallows of the beach. But no deeper than that.

Gives unprompted massages

I can imagine Nico doing this.

Will already does so much, for him and for everyone at camp. Nico would pamper his sunshine with a nice massage whenever he managed to catch the blonde boy at a moment of rest (which is rare).

Drives/rides shotgun

Both of them would take turns once they've both gotten their licenses and their hands on a car.

Although Nico wouldn't really make use of one as much if he knows he could shadow travel there without passing out.

Brings the other lunch at work

Nico.

When Will's in "Doctor mode", he tends to lose track of time and pay less attention to the state and needs of his own boy (ironic). Nico makes sure that Will is able to eat, and even keeps him company for lunch too.

Has the better parental relationship

I want to say both of them have good relationships with their parents.... But Nico definitely has a strong bond with his father, Hades. He even visits him quite frequently.

Apollo is doing his best, but even he has his moments where he just...doesnt have any contact with Will. But he tries.

Tries to start role-playing in bed

Neither. I don't think that's really a kink shared between the two of them. Plus, those moments are special (and rare, since I believe Nico doesn't have a high sex drive.)

Embarrassingly drunk dancer

Funny enough - Nico.

When he gets drunk, he is A LOT more energetic. To the point where he could rival both Percy and LEO. So he's had moments where he truly embarrasses himself - both on the dance floor and off it.

Still cries watching Titanic

Will. Nico isn't really into romance movies (unless they're animated).

Firmly believes in couples costumes

Nico - hands down.

Pretty sure he and Will are reigning champions for Best Couple Costume in Camp Half-Blood's Halloween Party.

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas

He has a dad who spoils him, so he has access to the riches of the Underworld. Why wouldn't he take advantage of that to buy some luxurious gifts for the sunshine of his life?

The idea of having a family with Nico tickles him pink. It will take a while, of course, before Nico feels comfortable with the idea - but they get there.

I've been trying to figure out why I dont like Caduceus and your last meta reply got me closer to figuring it out. Like, I've been trying to like him, or at least figure why I dont, and describing him as 'a good person who doesnt have the self awareness to realize hes a jerk' I think got close to my issue with him, so thanks for the Good Meta

This is in response to this post, which I know some people agreed with very strongly and which made some other people very upset.  I’m glad it clicked with you, at least, and that it helped clarify some Cad stuff for you!

I think that a very big thing about Taliesin’s characters across the board, for me, is how intensely judgy they have the capacity to be.  In many ways, Caduceus is less judgmental than Percy or Molly, which is a fascinating thing to think about.  And I have found that fascinating since pretty much my second or third episode of Critical Role, because so much of that judgment tends to be couched in, ‘I judge you for not accepting other people the way I think you should’.  Percy loves Keyleth but also thinks she’s naive, too idealistic about what people ought to be rather than acknowledging and planning for the flaws he’s sure he knows they have.  Molly dresses and talks and walks and presents himself in such a flamboyant way specifically to elicit reactions, specifically so he can decide who to write off completely and not worry about any more.  In both cases it’s this super-interesting, incredibly relatable picture of a person who judges other people for their judgments.  

Because Critical Role is such a long-form show, we got to see Percy be proven right and be proven wrong, we got to see him smug and we got to see him humble, and we got to see a lot of different angles on both his standards (what other people ought to be doing) and his stubbornness (how ready he was to dismiss people who didn’t meet them).  Because we lost Molly so early, we only really got to start scratching the surface of his assumptions and certainties, and one of my biggest regrets is that we didn’t get to explore them so much more.  In both cases, that stubborn sureness--I know how the world works, better than anybody around me--was one of my favorite parts of the character.  It’s such an interesting flaw, because it wasn’t always detrimental.  Both Percy and Molly were often right, or at least they acted in line with their assumptions and the universe responded how they expected, and the team benefited from it.  Both of them had a certain amount of ‘and it’s our job to be decent to other people’ as part of that worldview, which really helped in making them likable.  Both of them made sense, which led to the (for me) really great cognitive experience of, “okay, I agree with this character, but also I don’t think they’re the ultimate authority they believe themself to be!  but I do think they’re right!  but maybe they shouldn’t be so sure they’re right!”  I find internal narrative conflict like that extremely compelling, and in particular the exploration of being judgmental about other people’s judgment resonates with me a lot.

So I’ve been waiting for cracks and criticisms with Caduceus, because I suspected from very early on that he, too, would be Extremely Sure He Understands How the World Works At All Times.  I have been looking for the places he Knows He’s Right, and I’ve been eating them up.

Cad’s certainties are completely different than Percy’s and Molly’s, but once again, it’s incredibly difficult to say he’s wrong.  He believes in fate--well, if you declare that everything that happens was supposed to happen, how is it ever possible to say he’s wrong?  He believes Melora is watching and guiding and wants for him to do things--it’s D&D, she literally is watching (and if she happens to be a lot less invested in any specific outcome than Caduceus thinks, she’s not about to tell him so).  He believes he has a job, has a purpose.  Because it’s D&D, because it’s a story, because the story needs to go places and as the PCs it’s their job to do things to get there, on a very real meta level he’s literally correct.  

He thinks that his job and his purpose is to help people--and how can we say he’s wrong?  How can we say he shouldn’t try to be a good person, try to help?  And he’s doing his best, and his best so often does help, and when it doesn’t, then it’s not his fault because there are other circumstances.  It’s almost impossible to argue with that.  Objectively, Caduceus is doing his best.  Objectively, in many cases it is helpful.

And yet, that doesn’t mean that Caduceus objectively knows the best way to help in every situation--which even he readily admits.  It doesn’t mean Caduceus necessarily knows the “best” way to help even in the situations where he is helpful.

Because right, the other thing about D&D is, Caduceus fundamentally cannot be the Sole Correct Authority on Everything, no matter how much sense his sureness makes.  He literally can’t be, because Tal is one of eight people at that table, and he’s not the one running the world.  He can be absolutely justified in being mad at Nott, which he absolutely is, and it still isn’t a universal truth that Caduceus Is Right and Nott Is Wrong.  There are no universal truths at that table.  Not even Matt has universal truths, not about what characters think or feel or do, not about moral absolutism.

(I’m someone who gets really twitchy around people who are Extremely Sure.  I’ve known a disproportionate number of them in real life, and I’ve got very specific instinctive skills for not pissing them off that I occasionally wish I hadn’t had to develop.  Part of turning from a conflict-averse 20-year-old into a grown-ass adult on my part has involved learning not to automatically agree that the universe must work a certain way, just because a very smart, very sure person who makes sense says so.  Part of it’s involved learning not to be that very sure person myself.  

I think I grab at moments when Caduceus very clearly isn’t 100% correct because of that.  I love the fact that, in Critical Role, we have this multi-layered, many-voiced story proving that even if a character is right, they’re not necessarily the bearer of Objective Universal Truth.  Rather than a story where it feels like the author and the universe are trying to make me agree with one person, it’s a story where a character can be right and not right from a thousand different directions at the same time.  (Which, if nothing else, makes the story and the character feel so much safer to me.))

Caduceus is a little bit passive-aggressive sometimes, going back to Caduceus and Nott and the original discussion of that other post.  And, right, he wants to avoid conflict within the group so he doesn’t make a big deal out of certain things, and just like all of his opinions, it’s hard to say he’s wrong in that.  And he has every right and reason and justification for having emotions about some of the many very big things that have happened to him lately.  He’s right (he’s not wrong) about a lot of things.  He’s actually really good about recusing himself from situations where he doesn’t have the background or knowledge to be right at least to his own standards.

The thing that has me calling Caduceus a little childish is that he’s so utterly disinclined to acknowledge the possibility of nuance.  He knows how to help Fjord (he’s decided that he knows how to help Fjord), so he does.  He doesn’t know how to help Nott, so he doesn’t.  We’ve never seen him take so much as a moment to consider whether or not he’s right in his assessment of his ability to help in either case.  And yeah, to me that does feel a little immature.  It’s not that he’s got a philosophy and he sticks to it, it’s that he lacks the self-awareness to even acknowledge the blind spots it might give him, let alone try to amend them.

And that’s okay.  Acknowledging that Caduceus might possibly be a little bit of a hypocrite, a little judgy, a little wrong in his mental image of the universe and his place in it, makes him so much more interesting.  It makes him a person.  Not an infallible mouthpiece from God; not a perfect sage holding all the wisdom of the ages.  He’s a good person, trying to do his best.  

He’s a good character, because he’s an examination of how all these traits both hinder and sometimes help his attempts to be a good person.  Stubborn certainty got the M9 up on their feet after Yasha left, comforted Fjord away from U’kotoa, saved a tribe of giants.  Caduceus is multifaceted, and the game is multifaceted, and the very same characteristics can be great in one situation and a real problem in another, just like life.
