ok i know this will probably sound stupid asf but i hate it when people act like max hates pietro with all of his being. yes some of the jokes are funny but i just realized that there are people that GENUINELY believe that shit.

he doesn't hate pietro. actually, every time they interact in a meaningful way, max is shown trying desperately to be connected to pietro in any way, getting frustrated because no matter what he does, he only pushes his son away more. he feels angry because his son doesn't share his ideals, but what truly angers him more is that he can't fix what he did wrong as pietro absolutely refuses his attempts. there's also the fact that max can't fix everything -- what's done is done. he abused his son, killed him, tried killing kim in other occasions, is generally very invalidating of pietro's feelings, projects himself on pietro so much to the point where he can't even show affection or guilt without justifying it by putting himself as the focus of the narrative

tbh, in MY opinion their relationship is so tragic and painful exactly because of that: pietro IS loved by max. he is loved SO so so so much. and he does love max and admires him, but that doesn't make the hurt go away, and the pain seems to always follow him no matter how fast he runs away from it.

i keep thinking about pietro and emily and about how i can't remember a single panel of crystal reassuring pietro and holding him with tenderness, but i can remember about how much pietro admired emily, how gently they held each other and the understanding emily offered him while never taking away his accountability. like yes they didn't have many issues together and they were never the focus, yet their relationship had a genuine care and evolution, a development so subtle but yet it is there. it's always there.
