So I was skimming your headcanons posts and came across this: “(...) something went horribly wrong and the Yahar’gul hunters were forced to put down Izzy while in beast-form. Mourning her loss, Archibald went full-on Victor Frankenstein and resurrected her as Darkbeast Paarl.” in your opinion, who dealt with the death of their partner worse, Gehrman or Archie? I think we’re looking at either Doll or Paarl for “worst result of coping with the loss of a loved one 2k18”
That is a very good question. (I am a sucker for the sad man/dead wife trope LMAO)
I would say Gehrman still. Because at least Archibald DID something extraordinary with his mad science while Gehrman just put together an effigy :P
There’s also the fact that Izzy and Archie were studying the properties of the Darkbeast‘s ‘undying’ bones together so, in a sense, Archie bringing back Izzy as Paarl could be seen an accomplishment of their combined efforts. And because Izzy was killed and did not actually wish to be gone for good.
Gehrman on the other hand just does it because HE wants to. His intent is selfish to the point of negating Maria’s agency on her own freakin’ death.
Again, bringing the dead back to life without their consent is another common trope in Gothic literature and the one that brings up the real drama, since Death is often considered a blissful sleep of peace and ignorance in contrast to the hardships of life. “Cursed, cursed creator! Why did I live? Why, in that instant, did I not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed?”
