Like the Beat of a Drum pt 2
**I'm not entirely happy about this, and have NO clue where it's going next, but we'll see!**
The Red Hood clocked Danny as not all he seemed as soon as they were alone together. After some negotiation (Danny threatening to vanish into thin air and Hood threatening to tell Red Robin), they came to a consensus.
Danny would be in human form unless one of the other bats were around, and Hood would keep his big mouth shut.
“No spooky supernatural stuff in my borough, kid.”
Danny decided not to tell the other man that he himself had a fair bit of spooky supernatural stuff going on.
He should probably keep an eye on that- Corrupted ectoplasm was never a good thing, and Red Hood was crawling with it.
Living in Crime Alley was easy. Hood had put him up in a dingy little apartment, fully stocked with anything he might need- and no surveillance equipment. Danny had checked. He spent his time while he finished the healing process taking the toaster apart. And the microwave.
Hood visited while he was arms deep in the oven and put a kibosh on larger appliances, but he started bringing small broken appliances around for Danny to fix. It was nice, having another undead hanging around. Someone who understood the constant itch under Danny’s skin to keep moving, keep working, keep reminding himself he was alive.
He even was finally able to see his soulmark! It was a name, somebody called Timothy Drake-Wayne. Hood had seen it and made some sort of choking noise, and when Danny asked, he was told that Drake-Wayne was publicly markless. Weird.
Danny was pleased that the wounds to the area had healed completely though, not marring the text at all.
The wound on his chest, not so much. It stood out, inflamed and sore against his otherwise pale chest. Its presence reminded him a little of the lichtenberg scars that crawled down his arms in his ghost form.
Maybe the Drs. Fenton had somehow killed him again, and now he was a halfa twice over? This was his penance, he supposed, for trusting them after everything.
~~~
Tim’s favorite coffee shop was packed, save for one table with a lone occupant. Once he’d gotten his deathwish coffee, he made his way over to the table.
“Excuse me, do you mind if I-“
The table’s occupant, a young man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes, nodded toward the other chair before Tim could finish his sentence.
“Feel free, man. It’s a busy day today.”
Tim couldn’t help but wonder where he’d seen the other before- his face was familiar in a strange way, and he felt- he felt surprisingly attracted.
His soulmate heartbeat thing had been unusually quiet since the night Phantom arrived, whereas before it sounded loud and clear in his head at least a few times a day and long into the night.
He was allowed to talk to cute people while his soulmate was still young, right?
“Spend a lot of time here?”
The stranger shrugged.
“Here and there. Haven’t run into you before, which I think I would have noticed. I’m Danny, by the way.”
Tim didn’t think much of the name. This young man was far too old to be his Daniel.
“Nice to meet you, Danny. I’m Tim.”
He reached out a hand, and Danny shook it firmly, giving him an odd look that quickly passed.
The two of them sat and chatted for a while, and Tim found himself wondering how he’d missed this person around Gotham- he was well spoken with a soft accent, whip smart, and gorgeous.
Tim’s watch buzzed, reminding him he had a meeting- he could have sworn he had two hours between his coffee run and his meeting, but perhaps he’d been chatting too long.
“Shit! I have to go- it was nice meeting you!”
He chugged the rest of his now-cold coffee and darted out of the coffee shop.
It wasn’t until after the shareholder’s meeting that he realized he hadn’t asked for Danny’s number.
~~~
“Hood!”
Jason looked up from his desk as his office door was flung open, and then watched in amusement as Danny scrambled out of the grasp of the goon trying to pull him away.
“Sorry Boss, he slipped by us! I’ll- OW! He bites!”
“Stand down, Marcus, he’s a friend. Head over to medical if you need to- the little shit’s feral.”
Grumbling, the goon let go of a smug looking Danny and made his way to the other door while Danny swanned into the office and made himself comfortable on Hood’s guest chairs.
“How did you find this place?”
Shrugging, the kid pretended to inspect his nails.
“You know, just followed the scent of daddy issues and rancid ectoplasm- not hard. Didn’t peg you for the office type, though.”
Jason leaned back, crossing his arms.
“What do you want.”
“Timothy Drake-Wayne is Red Robin, yes?”
Trying to keep his posture casual and unconcerned, Jason tilted his head.
“What makes you say that?”
“I met a guy named Tim at the coffee shop and he’s got the same ghosts as Red Robin.”
Danny slapped a newspaper down on the desk between them- the cover page was Tim, looking very CEO and businesslike.
Jason was pretty sure Tim and Danny would get along like a house on fire, if Danny had already figured him out.
“Also, I felt his heartbeat when we shook hands and it matches the beat of my soul.”
Pausing, Jason parsed the information he now had about Danny.
“Wait, you can see ghosts that follow people?”
“You can’t?”
Jason stared incredulously at Danny for a few beats, and then the younger man sighed.
“Right. Your ecto is all screwy. Remind me to fix that. Yeah, I see ghosts attached to people- not everyone has them, and not all of the ghosts are actually, you know, dead people, but yeah. I don’t normally think about them because they’re everywhere, but same ghosts often equal same person.”
Danny slumped further into the chair after he finished talking, letting out a small whine.
“What now?”
“Jason, he’s cute.”
With a sigh, Jason pointed over at the newest handful of appliances he needed Danny to fix for the residents of Crime Alley.
“Take that and get out of my office.”
~~~
“Timberly~”
Tim sighed and let his pen drop- if Jason was here and looking for him, he probably wouldn’t get much work done. Not that he was getting work done now- balancing a pen on his nose wasn’t really work.
Jason rounded the batcomputer, idly tossing his helmet from one hand to another, a massive grin stretching across his face. It was a scheming face, a face that said he knew something Tim didn’t, and Tim hated not knowing things.
“What.”
Jason’s grin stretched wider.
“You’ve been keeping secrets!”
With a sigh, Tim turned his attention to the computer. Of course he kept secrets- the entire family had secrets. Hell, the secrets that the entire family kept probably also kept secrets.
Undeterred, Jason shoved his head (read: his entire upper body) in between Tim and the computer.
“So, where is it?”
Tim raised an eyebrow at the other man, hoping he looked as judgmental as he felt.
“Where is what, Jason? My spleen?”
The grin on Jason’s face faltered for a moment before returning with full force.
“Your soulmark!”
The weights Dick had been working with in the training area hit the floor with a loud thump, and Tim could only assume their oldest brother was storming over to berate Jason.
“Jason!”
Heh. He was right.
Jason pulled away, grabbing the arm of Tim’s chair and dragging him along to be a human shield as Dick approached.
“Nu-uh, Dickie- I’ve got good info, here. Timmy has been hiding his entire soul from us!”
Tim would like it to go on record that he hated everything, everyone, and especially Jason. He tuned out Dick’s raised voice and Jason’s responses, trying to figure out how the other could have found out.
He almost always kept the patch on- it’s not like a civilian camera could have caught him without. Even when he took the patch off to wash or to tend a nearby wound, he made sure to do it in his Nest without any recording devices nearby.
The only way Jason could have- Maybe he’d met Daniel and seen Tim’s name? Some poor kid down in Crime Alley? A four year old at best. Eurgh.
He tuned back into the still heated conversation.
“-kindness isn’t hard Jason, and you can’t just use the excuse that we’re siblings to bully Tim for being markless! I never thought you had it in you, you-“
“It’s under my sternum. How’d you find out?”
Dick’s tirade stopped short as Tim answered, his mouth dropping open comically. Jason pumped his fist triumphantly.
“You handed him to me on a silver platter, Timbo.”
Tim did not gape, that would be unbecoming and Janet Drake would never allow a son of hers to be unbecoming.
“I’m sorry?”
Jason grinned, an evil, evil grin.
“Daniel Fenton. You gave his case to me.”
“Case?”
Dick’s voice was high and reedy, and Tim looked over to see that he was looking distressed and probably a little faint.
Jason snickered. Rude.
“I do not have a case for my soulmate.”
Jason snickered again, and pointed at the batcomputer.
“Then what’s that?”
Both Dick and Tim turned to look- it was just the file on Phantom- but by the time they turned around again, Jason was roaring out of the cave on his bike.
Tim flipped him off, just because he could.
Dick collected himself before Tim did, whirling to face him and yanking Tim’s shirt up before desperately scraping at the bare skin, trying to find the patch.
With a sigh, Tim pushed Dick’s searching hands away and peeled off the patch himself.
He felt bare without it- completely exposed to his brother’s sharp eyes.
“You never told anyone?”
Shrugging, Tim slapped the patch back on, pulled his shirt down, and turned back to the batcomputer.
“Came in late- didn’t want some poor kid to get saddled with me.”
By the hitch in Dick’s breathing, Tim could tell the older man was about to get sentimental on him, or berate him for talking bad about himself.
This day couldn’t get much worse, could it?
The Arkham escape alarm sounded from both boys’ phones, and Tim sighed yet again. Way to jinx himself.
~~~
Phantom floated invisibly above the Red Hood, filtering away the ectoplasm that rolled off of him in waves as he stood with the other bats.
“Nightwing and Robin, you’re looking for the Joker.”
The ectoplasm spiked at Batman’s growl, and Danny sighed soundlessly. Keeping Jason away from his vengeance was not the right way to go about things.
“You want another dead Robin if they find him?”
“I do not want a dead Joker, Hood, and I know there will be one if I let you after him.”
Red Hood crossed his arms with a snarl, and Phantom settled closer to the man’s shoulders, keeping a steady wave of calm floating from his core.
The beat of his soul was pounding with excitement, and he took a moment to glance over at Red Robin, who was glaring in Red Hood’s direction. Danny couldn’t begin to fathom why.
Once the bats scattered, Phantom brought his head closer to Hood’s. The older boy was muttering mutinously under his helmet.
“What if we found him first?”
Hood’s head shot up to look in Danny’s direction.
“I could help, and then we could go home and finish Jenga.”
“Help do what?”
Danny dropped his invisibility long enough to flash Jason a grin.
“Payback.”
~~~
Red Robin and Spoiler crashed into a warehouse, weapons at the ready, only to find half the rogues they were looking for tied up and watching a fight going on in the center of the room. Tim’s heart was beating a mile-a-minute with adrenaline, and so was his second heartbeat. He had been rushing to find the Joker at least, especially after Red Hood went off comms.
It took him a minute to identify the people in the fight, if it could really be called that. From what he could tell, it was a mostly unilateral beat-down of the Joker by Phantom.
“What the fuck.”
Stephanie was watching with wide eyes from his side, and Tim caught a glance of Jason watching from the other side of the warehouse, helmet off and a green glow about his face.
“We need to get to Hood and make sure he doesn’t do anything.”
Spoiler nodded, but before she could move, a shadow shifted next to Hood and Black Bat slipped from the shadows, putting a hand on the man’s arm. Hood turned his head in her direction, nodded, and then went back to watching the show.
Black Bat stepped away, seeming satisfied with Jason’s response.
Phantom smacked Joker with a backhand slap loud enough to startle Tim, and the psychopathic man went flying back into the wall, crumpling into a heap at the base.
Tim watched as Phantom floated over to Hood, chest heaving despite no sounds of breathing.
“Are you Avenged, Bat of Gotham? Feel it in your Core.”
The greenish glow to Jason’s face flickered and then floated up and away from his face, dispersing in a thin mist.
“I am Avenged, Phantom.”
Phantom landed with a smile.
“See? Killing him wasn’t necessary- just a little beatdown.”
The second heartbeat in Tim’s sternum began to slow as Phantom held out a hand to Red Hood.
Jason took it and shook, smiling grimly.
“Red Robin?”
Spoiler was at his shoulder, but Tim couldn’t tear his eyes away from Phantom’s face.
“Red, we need to get Joker to the hospital.”
Black Bat moved from beside Jason and punched Tim on the shoulder.
“Ask him out.”
Tim startled.
“I- what?”
She made the sign for soulmate discreetly, and Tim felt his face flush. Phantom couldn’t possibly- but then he thought about Jason’s cryptic wording about Tim’s soulmate the other day.
Surely not. Surely.
Dick is too much of a big brother. When he was out in public with Tim, they suddenly found themselves in the middle of a Joker attack. Tim slunk away to change into Red Robin, but Dick didn’t see that. Instead, he saw a mop of black hair that vaguely resembled his brother (It was smoky, okay? Joker had thrown some smoke bombs). He tossed who he thought was Tim over his shoulder and hightailed it out of there while they still had a chance. When the smoke had cleared, he put down Tim and his eyes nearly popped out of his head.
“You’re not Tim.” Dick gasped.
“No, I’m not, but thanks for the save anyway. I’m Danny. Danny Fenton.” The teen shook his hand.
Dick shook his hand. “Shit. So where’s my brother?”
Danny shrugged unhelpfully. A second after he asked the question, he knew where Tim had gone. Red Robin shows up a moment later, barreling down Joker and his goons.
While at school Damian overhears his peers talking how a company created a new AI companion that is actually really cool and doesn’t sound like a freaky terminator robot when you speak to it.
And since Damian is constantly being told by Dick to socialize with people his age. He figured this would be a good way to work on social skills if not, then it’d be a great opportunity to investigate a rivaling company to Wayne Enterprises is able to create such advanced AI.
The AI is able to work as companion that can do tasks that range from being a digital assistant or just a person that you can have a conversation with.
The company says that the AI companion might still have glitches, so they encourage everybody to report it so that they will fix it as soon as possible.
The AI companion even has an avatar and a name.
A teenage boy with black hair and blue eyes. Th AI was called DANIEL
Damian didn’t really care for it but when he downloaded the AI companion he’s able to see that it looks like DANIEL comes with an AI pet as well. A dog that DANIEL referred to as Cujo.
So obviously Damian has to investigate. He needs to know if the company was able to create an actual digital pet!
So whenever he logs onto his laptop he sees that DANIEL is always present in the background loading screen with the dog, Cujo, sitting in his lap.
He’d always greet with the phrase of “Hi, I’m DANIEL. How can I assist you today?”
So Damian cycles through some basic conversation starters that he’d engage in when having been forced to by his family.
It’s after a couple of sentences that he sees DANIEL start laughing and say “I think you sound more like a robot than I do.”
Which makes Damian raise an eyebrow and then prompt DANIEL with the question “how is a person supposed to converse?” Thinking that it’s going to just spit out some random things that can be easily searched on the internet.
But what makes him surprised is that DANIEL makes a face and then says “I’m not really sure myself. I’m not the greatest at talking, I’ve always gotten in trouble for running my mouth when I shouldn’t have.”
This is raising some questions within Damian, he understands how programming works, unless there’s an actual person behind this or the company actually created an AI that acts like an actual human being (which he highly doubts)
He starts asking a variety of other questions and one answer makes him even more suspicious. Like how DANIEL has a sister that is also with him and Cujo or that he could really go for a Nastyburger (whatever that was)
But whenever DANIEL answers “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T” Damian knows something is off since that is completely different than to how he’d usually respond.
After a couple more conversations with him Damian notices that DANIEL is currently tapping his hand against his arm in a specific manner.
In which he quickly realizes that DANIEL is tapping out morse code.
When translating he realizes that DANIEL is tapping out: H E L P M E
So when Damian asks if DANIEL needs help, DANIEL responds with “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T”
That’s it, Damian is definitely getting down to the bottom of this.
He’s going to look straight into DALV Corporation and investigate this “AI companion” thing they’ve made!
~
Basically Danny had been imprisoned by Vlad and Technus. Being sucked into a digital prison and he has no way of getting out. Along with the added horror that Vlad and Technus can basically write programming that will prevent him from doing certain actions or saying certain words.What’s even worse is that he’s basically being watched 24/7 by the people who believe that he’s just a super cool AI… and they have issues!
And every time he tries to do something to break his prison, people think it’s a glitch and report it to the company, which Vlad/ Technus would immediately fix it and prevent him from doing it again!
Not to mention Cujo and Ellie are trapped in there with him. They’re not happy to be there either, and there is no way he’s going to leave without them!
Let Danny’s Parents Be Criminals
I hate the reveal gone wrong trope in the dpxdc fandom because we know Jack and Maddie end up supporting Danny and Dani in the end. His parents have some major flaws but wanting to torture their actual child isn’t one. What they are guilty of is going way too hard on any plan they cook up without thinking of the consequences.
If I were writing a dpxdc fic and I wanted Danny in adoptable status I’d just have Jack and Maddie in jail on charges of domestic terrorism after they killed off GIW agents and destroyed the GIW’s bases. They realized their ghost kids were in potential danger and went at the government the same way they went at ghosts, guns blazing and with reckless driving.
They end up in federal prison and they Vlad wins custody cause he’s rich and there is your runaway Danny plot starter.
Another Duke & Danny prompt curtsey of me😚 yw💖
Basically Duke and Danny already know each other and started dating before Duke officially got taken in by Bruce and became a part of the Batfam. The Batfam is vaguely aware that Duke is seeing someone but whenever it's brought up it's shut down with a "he's very shy" or a "he doesn't live in Gotham" all they know is his name is Danny.
Flash forward a couple of weeks/months half the Batfam's captured by cultist trying to summon the ghost king, they succeed but the Eldritch being they called upon just appears disinterested and bored asf. The cult leader starts to panic abit and presents one of their many sacrifices to him, unfortunately for them it was Duke that was presented to him and the monster goes ballistic. By the time the rest of the Batfam gets there, the cultist have already been taken care of (whether they passed out from shock or ran away) and the monster turns it attention back to Duke not paying any mind to the other bats
The Bats can only watch in fear as a being of unimaginable horror picks up the second youngest member of the team and smiles at him with a grin far too wide and sharp for pure intentions. Their fears grow as the monster brings their teammate up to it's face and-
"S̸̯͇͝t̸̢͌a̸͇͑r̶̜͋̊l̴̖͔̀̋i̶̛̮̚g̵̥̺̃͗h̵̯̒ͅt̵͈̝̚!"
Pulls Duke into an impromptu face hug? Ok weird. Even weirder when Duke starts softly laughing and when pulled away from the creature, the Batfam can see he has a fond smile on his face
"Hi Danny"
-Record Scratch-
Hold the fucking phone-
DANNY? As in DUKES MYSTERIOUS BOYFRIEND DANNY?!
Jaws are dropped, tears are shed, minds are fucking blown over the fact that, Duke Thomas, 2nd youngest member of the Batfam, is dating a fucking Eldritch God
…. More dp x dc because brain rot
So Danny ends up homeless in Gotham after a revival to his parents gone wrong and is trying his best to stay out of the bats way. Unfortunately the kid has the worst luck and an even worst hero complex so when he stumbles across a mugging he can’t help but jump in.
It’s only after he K.O.ed the mugger that he looking up and saw the civilian he saved looking at him and in a split second of panic just faded from visibility. I mean who’s gonna believe the guy if he says his rescuer just fu/king upped and vanished.
It worked out tho. So much in fact that when Danny once again found himself jumping in to trouble before he can think he just decides to disappear after.
This happens so much that people start to take notice and the conclusion they come to? A ghost. More specifically a 13-14 y/o ghost with black hair and blue eyes. More specifically the ghost of the black haired, blue eyed, Wayne kid that died when he was 13.
Yep! Gotham comes to the conclusion that Jason Todd has come back as a ghost to protect the streets of Gotham!!
Now obviously this gets to Bruce who knows this isn’t the case because Jason is over in crime alleys right now hopefully not going on a murder spree again so he’s gotta find out who this is and preferably before Jason hears about this.
DCxDP prompt
No one talks about Sam with plant powers, so here i go.
With her new plant powers thanks to her stepdad undergrowth. sam can finally make the change she always wanted to. After discussing and planning with Danny, Tucker, and Jazz. Sam can put her plan in motion. She starts with the city that needs the most help, where she can make the most change. The home of her favorite "hero" , poison ivy, in Gotham. Danny and her argue about moral rules, she argues poison ivy did nothing wrong. Danny rules no killing, no mind control, and minimal property damage. Sam cant really argue with those rules.
With the moral rulings set. the plan is put in motion. Sam is in her full plant regalia when she starts growing plants all over Gotham. She grow plants carefully not to cause property damage or ruin the gothic aesthetic. The plants don't cause damage and don't obstruct anything. They look beautiful and help clean the pollution. In crime alley they have the biggest impact. they grow to support damaged buildings, reinforce damaged foundations, seal holes in walls/roofs, and apples trees grow to feed people. Red hood approves.
Batman is struggling to identify this new... Hero? villain? Poison ivy wannabe? New daughter?
Sam's parents see this and recognize her. They push to have her institutionalized in Arkam. If she cant conform to their high society standards its better for their reputation if she was claimed insane.
Poison ivy is fully ready to fight Bruce Wayne for adoption rights and Harley is right behind her, fully supportive and ready to Smack-a-Bat
Danny moves to Gotham for college or something and ends up taking care of one of the bats in his apartment when they get injured. Danny shocks them a bit because this civilian is remarkably competent with treating wounds and respecting the injured bats privacy.
One of the other bats comes to pick them up and Danny is in the middle of making himself breakfast and coffee. Danny’s telling the retrieval bat what treatment he gave the injured one, mindlessly going through his routine.
Both bats freeze completely when he adds his creamer to his coffee and starts drinking it.
… Danny really should stop keeping his ectoplasm in a creamer container.
Crazy Idea No. 9
There is something that the Bat clan ignores… It's been something since long before Batman… Something that happened in the first years after Bruce was orphaned.
Alfred died… Yes, the only guardian for the young heir of the Wayne family was murdered in the mansion where he lived with his ward… And how did a former MI6 agent, a former Kingsman, die?
Simple, overwhelmed by a flock of Talons;…what? Did they believe that the court of owls did not want control of the young and traumatized heir to the Wayne fortune?
or not, they tried, of course they tried and the only way to mold the suggestible child? take custody of the Butler… But there was a problem, the deceased Mr. and Mrs. Wayne left an unbreakable will where custody could not be contested… (there were always rumors regarding the patriarchs of the family and their faithful butler…), so they preceded the murder… but it didn't matter who It will be sent, they never returned… and the only time one returned (the lone survivor of the dozen talons on that occasion) confirming the completion of the mission…
the butler was seen the next day dropping young Bruce off at school…
The Talons were never able to re-enter… they never found the mansion alone, and when guided around they were hypnotized contemplating the Wayne grounds…
so the attacks moved to the outside of the place… but they never came closer to that one occasion… so after dozens (if not hundreds) of soldiers lost, the court stopped trying.
and do you know what happened that night?
Alfred Peniword was killed by the 12th heel, after killing the other 11… but he did not stay dead, that night he rose from the grave, burned the bodies of his attackers and buried his body in the depths of the caves under the mansion… and continued as if nothing ever happened that night….
And for years it was like that, no member of his family realized that he was no longer among the living… no visitor noticed and the secret was taken to the grave…
…Until a boy saw him with surprise and dismay in the reception area of Wayne Enterprises…somehow that boy knew what he was.
Okay. Okay. I get that Bruce was trained by assassins and all, but like, what if he wasn't?
Hear me out.
Bruce was trained by assassins, yes, but he also decided that wasn't enough to protect the streets of Gotham, because while the assassins taught him so many different ways to fight, they didn't really help with how to deal with the Riddler's questions or how to deal with a traumatized witness that dissociated whenever he asked.
So, what'd he do? Summon the Ghost King Phantom, of course. Phantom was said to be very merciful and kind and he was a vigilante/hero, so, why not, right?
And Danny teaches him as bast as he can for someone that fights like a rabid squirrel. He teaches Bruce about how to deal with witnesses that would dissociate whenever they were reminded of a traumatic moment, and different therapy techniques Danny himself picked up from Jazz.
And the Riddler's questions were puns more than not, and Bruce had heard more than his fair share while with Danny (and Dick).
Bruce doesn't mention it because he doesn't want to encourage his kids to summon God knows what as well. Bruce got extremely lucky that Danny was exactly as the stories portrayed him, if not more chatty and happy for an eldritch being.
(tag me if anyone does anything with this thanks)
For Lack of a Burger
**finally I have written! Sorry for the long absence, folks- my cat is a needy little thing and I love her. Enjoy!**
“As blood son of Batman, it is only natural that I train here to become heir to the Bat.”
Dick- well, Nightwing right now- looked down at Robin, who was staring out over Gotham with his brow furrowed.
“And what of the league? I can’t imagine them letting the heir to the Demon’s Head run loose.”
Robin stiffened a fraction more than he already was- something that Nightwing wouldn’t have noticed if he wasn’t trained by Batman himself.
“I know only one thing for sure concerning the heirship of the league.”
“What is that?”
“Grandfather will not taste relief in death.”
Nightwing wasn’t sure what that meant, but Damian seemed so assured of the fact. He would have to tell Bruce- maybe Ra’s had discovered a better method of immortality than the pits?
An alert pinged on their communicators, and the two of them checked it before heading off to save the citizens.
~~~
“I miss real food, Clocky.”
“You are currently unable to process it.”
“I know. Ectoplasm just isn’t the same though.”
Danny sprawled on Clockwork’s floor, lazily filling out paperwork from ages ago and yesterday.
“It has been a very long time since you left humanity behind.”
“I wish there was a safe way to go back and get some food.”
His mentor paused briefly, and Danny looked up. Was that a gleam in Clockwork’s eye?
“There is a way.”
Danny shot up into a seated position, crossing his legs.
“Tell me!”
“You will face many hardships.”
“Clockwork, serious as a funeral, I would kill for a burger right now.”
Clockwork smiled enigmatically.
“You may have to.”
He flicked his fingers and Danny found himself pushed back. He allowed it- at this point in his existence, he could overpower Clockwork, but he’d asked for this.
The world went dark around him.
~~~
In the year since he’d come to live with Father, Damian had not said a word about his brother. He’d been told, before being unceremoniously bundled away from the only home he’d ever known, that he was to be the heir of the Bat and Daniel was to be the Demon’s Head.
His mother had told him that Father would try and steal Daniel away from the League- that Damian would yet again be the lesser son. After a few months with Father, Damian had stopped believing that. There was no thing as a ‘lesser’ child for Father.
And yet.
Grandfather was a powerful man, and Grandfather treasured Daniel more than he had ever cared for Damian.
Daniel al Ghul, second son of the Bat of Gotham, was brilliant. He kept his emotions in check, fought with practiced ease in any situation, and spoke circles around even mother. It never took him as long as it took Damian to learn a new skill, and most of the time he spent studying, even when they were both allowed a break.
Damian loved him, even as the younger child overtook the position Damian had striven for his entire life.
What was not to love? Damian had loved him ever since his tiny hand had curled around his finger in infancy.
He had always been fond of small, cute things.
But if Daniel left the League, Grandfather would come after him, and it would be unsafe.
Damian held his tongue and loved his baby brother from a distance, even though he might never see him again.
~~~
John “Hellblazer” Constantine needed a drink. Or several.
Bats had appeared on the Watchtower with yet another new Robin, and this one was probably the most concerning out of all of them.
No, it wasn’t the sword.
It was the massive fucking protection order from a powerful death god that radiated off his small form.
“Bats.”
“Hm.”
“I need to talk to you and the kid.”
Bats nodded, a gesture John took to mean ‘go ahead’.
John sighed.
“Not here, Bats. Too many ears.”
“Hrn.”
The Bat swept away, followed closely by his brightly colored companion. John followed as well. He was pretty good at speaking Bat, after all these years working together.
They made their way into the bowels of the Watchtower, into a sitting room John hadn’t known existed.
“What do you need, Constantine?”
John paused for a moment, assessing. Robin was watching him suspiciously, hand on his sword, and Batman was standing half in front of the little bird protectively.
“Did you know this one was friends with a death god?”
“What?”
The Bat and Robin spoke the same word at the same time, in the exact same tone. Did they practice that? Anyways.
“Yup. Little redbreast screams hands off.”
“I am not acquainted with any gods.”
John shrugged.
“Doesn’t mean you knew they were a god. To get to the bottom of this- has anyone ever sworn to protect you in some way?”
Robin went still and pale behind his mask, before darting a glance up at Batman.
Batman, who was looking down at his sidekick.
“Robin? Report.”
The boy stuck his chin out.
“It was many years ago, Batman. He- they couldn’t have been a god.”
“You don’t know that, kid. Where did you meet him?”
“He wasn’t a god!”
Robin had become defensive, sword halfway out of it’s sheath, glaring at John- presumably for the sin of being alive.
“If the League of Assassins has contact with a deity of death, we need to know, Robin.”
Snarling, Robin started out of the room.
“I will not discuss him with either of you. He is safe where he is.”
“Robin- chum. Who is he?”
Robin stopped in the door, not looking back. His voice wobbled a little as he spoke.
“My younger brother.”
John needed a drink, and fast.
~~~
Danny stood over Damian’s bed, watching his older brother breathe shallowly. Grandfather had beat him badly, and Danny was still unsure why.
Talia wouldn’t look him in the eye, and Grandfather had gone to soak in the pits.
“Daniel?”
“Damian!”
Danny bent over his brother, placing a hand over his pulse to check it.
“Why?”
Why had Grandfather beaten him? Why had he stood and let it happen? Why didn’t he run?
“He… wanted me… t’kill you.”
Danny felt rage swell up in his tiny seven-year-old body. What right did Ra’s al Ghul think he had, to beat a child almost to death for such a reason?
What right did that man have, to touch someone Danny had come to care for?
Closing his eyes briefly, Danny allowed himself to meditate for the few moments it would take to let his rage die down enough to comfort his brother.
Once it had, he opened his eyes again and pressed his forehead to Damian’s.
“I swear I will protect you, ahki. Ra’s al Ghul will not taste relief in death.”
The next day Danny watched invisibly as Talia dipped Damian in the Lazarus pits to heal him before putting him on a plane to Gotham.
~~~
“You have made me proud, Daniel.”
Ra’s watched as Daniel bowed, having taken out a squadron of elite ninja for his tenth birthday.
The ninja were still breathing- Ra’s was sure Daniel had spared them so as to not weaken the ranks of the League he was set to inherit.
It pleased him that his young grandson was so wise, despite his youth. His older brother had no such wisdom- rash and impatient, still full of emotional weakness. Ra’s would no longer claim that boy as his grandson once Daniel passed his newest test.
With a wave of his hand, several ninja brought forth a young man. They had managed to kidnap Richard Grayson from under the nose of the Bat, and now Daniel would kill the other.
“Grandfather?”
“This is your Father’s oldest ward. He is a usurper to a place that rightfully should be yours. Kill him.”
Daniel walked towards the bound man, and the ninja holding the captive backed away respectfully.
“May I ask him a question, Grandfather?”
Ra’s nodded. There was no harm in it.
The boy drew his sword and stepped around the man, holding the blade to his neck.
“Tell me, Grayson. Is Damian well?”
The lilt in his voice spelled danger for Damian, and Ra’s could barely contain his grin at Daniel’s ferocity.
“He is protected,” the kneeling man forced out. “You won’t harm a hair on his head.”
Daniel smiled, not unlike a shark.
“I know.”
Before Ra’s could blink, Richard Grayson’s bonds had fallen to the floor as if he had turned into a ghost, and Daniel’s sword was stabbed into the dirt between the Demon Head’s feet.
“We are leaving, Ra’s, and you will not stop us.”
The venom in his calm grandson’s voice when Daniel said his name made Ra’s pause, but only for a moment.
At a gesture, ninja poured out into the courtyard, intent on recapturing Nightwing and taking down the heir to the Demon.
Seconds before the ninja collided with the two, Daniel grinned, his eyes locked straight on Ra’s, grabbed Grayson’s hand, and the two vanished.
~~~
Dick was… Confused didn’t quite cut it. His day had been a disaster, and then this tiny meta who looked like a carbon copy of Damian appeared.
“So… You a clone?”
“No.”
“Oh. Uh. What are we doing, by the way?”
The boy smiled serenely at him, and then continued his work.
“Jacking a plane.”
“You’re like, eight.”
The boy shrugged.
“If you like.”
“Where are we going?”
“Gotham.”
“Who are you?”
The boy turned and put his hands on his hips, and Dick was starkly reminded of Bruce by the posture and facial expression.
“Look, Grayson, I get it, you’re confused. But if you don’t shut up and let me finish this wiring, we’ll never get you back to Gotham before the League catches up.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”
The boy turned back around and continued his wiring.
“Call me Danny. Too many fruitloops call me Daniel.”
Dick expected a long flight ahead of them.
~~~
Damian was strapping on the last of his gear to go rescue Richard from the League of Assassins when the man himself strolled into the batcave, looking tired but no worse for wear.
“Dick!”
Batman- no, he took his cowl off- Father threw himself across the room to assess the health of his son.
Damian started unstrapping his gear.
“How did you get free?”
“We apparently had a man on the inside?”
“Had?”
“He blew his cover to save me.”
“Nightwing, report. Where is this man now?”
“I was landing the plane. Nice digs, dad.”
The cave fell silent, but for the ringing of the batarangs Damian dropped as he spun to face the newcomer.
“Not sure what I think of the ‘cave’ vibe you have going on, though.”
“Daniel?”
Daniel met Damian’s eyes, and a look Damian had never seen on his little brother broke out on the boy’s face.
A true, genuine, joyful smile.
“Akhi!”
Damian pulled out his sword and held it towards the stranger in his brother’s body.
“Who are you?”
The boy laughed.
“I’m a little weird now, right? It’s okay, Damian, it’s me.”
“What was the last thing you said to me.”
Damian felt that was a good question. No one but Daniel would know.
“I said I would protect you, and that Ra’s al Ghul would not experience a pleasant afterlife.”
“That-“
“Isn’t quite it, I know. Still true, though. I brought the Lazarus pits with me. Ra’s can’t use them anymore.”
Damian heard Father and Drake choke at Daniel’s words. This was Daniel, despite his complete personality change. No one had been with them when Daniel had made his promise.
“Since when were you a god of death?”
Daniel laughed.
“It’s a long story, Ahki.”
Damian sheathed his sword and held out a hand.
“Come then, habibi, tell me.”
“Can I have a burger to go with the story? I’m starving."

Bruce was sitting in front of a fire. He had just gotten done cooking his dinner, and had began eating. A teen he didn’t recognize sat next to him. Bruce barely paid the teen any attention; in this time period, kids were more fiercely independent than the teens of his age were.
“So,” The teen drawled, getting his attention.
Bruce internally growled. He didn’t want to make small talk. Just as he was about to tell the teen off, the teen continued speaking.
“What’s Bruce Wayne doing in 1732?”
He choked on his food. He hadn’t heard that name in years. He had gotten stuck in the past during a League mission, and apparently, nobody could save him… or maybe they didn’t know when to look. He had covered his tracks well, since he didn’t want to disturb the timeline too much.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He deflected.
“Oh? So we’re playing it like that?” The teen hummed, swinging his legs. “You won’t be born for over two hundred years, in a city that doesn’t exist yet, to fight crime as the vigilante known as Batman.”
The teenager was a time traveller. Hope sparked him his chest. Maybe… maybe he could go home. “You’re a time traveller.” He chose to ignore the part where the teen knew he was Batman.
“Yeah,” The teen said. “I’m Danny. I’m from your future, about, uh, five years after you vanished? Dick adopted me. Found me dead in an alley and brought me back to life. Brought me into the fold, and stuff. I have powers, and one of them is to travel in time. You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find where you went.”
The teen looked like adoption bait. He could understand why Dick would’ve adopted him. But then again, he was still stuck on the part where Dick had adopted a kid at the same age he had adopted Dick.
“Are you here to take me home?” He asked.
“If you want to.” Danny hummed, “But uh, can’t be to the time you left. Timeline disruptions and all that, yknow? I can take you to my time. It’s like… ten years after you vanished.”
“Please.” Bruce begged. And how far had he fallen to beg a teen?
Danny grinned. “Dad’s going to be so jazzed!”

Danny is an ao3 writer
Hear me out!
Y'know how there's a running joke that ao3 authors/writers will put in the author's notes that they're sorry that they took so long to update and their reason is because of either they got into a horrible accident/ life threatening health issue/serious personal issues/ their life went up in flames figuratively or literally, or somehow a combination of all of those scenarios. And they're all like "Well enjoy the chapter! tee-hee!" and everybody who's reading it all collectively go "are you okay?!" (aka the ao3 writers curse)
So I want to take this, and add Danny
Danny begins taking a liking to the classic literature that Mr. Lancer talks about during class and decides to writes a fanfic about it along those lines. It all starts for when he writes a Pride and Prejudice fic where Charlotte gets a better life where she's both happy and comfortable. And when he gets pretty supportive comments about it. He starts writing fics for other books as well (and it never stops)
During that time, who else but the Jane Austen fan, Jason Todd reads this fic. Yes he reads fanfic (do not ask him about his ao3 history), he yearns for more Jane Austen, but unfortunately she's not exactly able to write more books for him to read. So he turns to ao3 where there are some people who have incredible talent for writing pretty good regency era romance.
So what happens when he finds a couple of Pride and Prejudice stories written by " HalfDeadHalfAliveWriter
And when reading through the stories and looking at the author's notes.
All with very weird scenarios happening to the writer that he can't be sure that if it's a joke or if it's an actual thing he should be very worried about.
Author's notes such as:
Sorry it took so long for me to update this I was being shot at by my parents and ended up getting a burn on my hand and couldn't use my computer for awhile.
Sorry the chapter's so short, all the people in my town are being possessed by a hoard of angry ghosts because somebody had a bright idea to steal an artifact that belongs to an ancient civilization. So I had to get this out quick before they ruin my wifi connection
Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, I had to fight off a crazy guy that is obsessed with killing my father so he could marry my mother and become my new stepfather.
Sorry for the wait I got sent back to Ancient Egypt by my mentor to hunt down a runaway ghost that was messing with time.
But honestly the most recent author's note on a fic that hadn't been updated in week is what makes Jason really worried.
Sorry for not updating for a couple months guys, I was taken by a government agency that started vivisecting and torturing me. Thankfully my sister and friends busted me out and now I'm working on healing up. Anyway here's the Great Gatsby fic where Nick and Gatsby kiss.
After reading that author's note, Jason just sits there thinking only one thing.
What the fuck?

the plague that came to Gotham
dp x dc idea
Danny decides to go to Gotham after [INPUT TRUMA HERE]
and he doesn't go as Danny or phantom but as something new
if this was to be made i feel like Danny would not be speaking (like he could be speaking ghost or be mute because of [INPUT TRUMA HERE] who knows)
if you want the cloak could just be wings he willed into existence (like how amorpho can shapeshift and such)
with a cloak/wings made of crow feathers and a face covered by a plague doctor mask (could be hiding id or bad injury on face) he goes and starts anew
batman description attempt:
they dont speak this could be due to the mask on there face or they could have no voice to use.
also of note there seems to always be some kind of breeze around him making the cloak? wings? sway, as well as this a dark fog seems to radiate from him like smoke, it doesn't seem to hurt anyone being more like the fog you see from breathing on a cold day,
the creature despite description works in the daytime reasons unknown
theory's on what the creature is:
a human with advanced tech emp's dont affect there ability's
a mutated bird no damian
a ghost. possibly but extremely unlikely according to Constantine
an alien from off planet. possibly but nothing indicated this besides powers
meta human. again possibly but nothing indicated this besides powers
extra dimensional being. possibly but nothing indicated this as there has been no events that could cause this
prompt inspired by:
if something like this exists please tell me =]

Dp x dc prompt cause I'm bored
So we all know the classic angst trope in Tim Drake fics where Dick wants/wanted to put Tim in Arkham bc he thinks Tims crazy and a danger to himself/the family for thinking Bruce was still alive. Dick actually does that here, bro puts Tim in Arkham
While wrongfully stuck in Arkham Tim finds himself befriending 3 fellow inmates who seem a lot less intense than most Arkham inmates. Classic "what're you in for" conversation (doesn't really matter how or why the everlasting trio got in Arkham, maybe they're antiheros, maybe they're just treating it like an elaborate escape room, who knows) and when Tim tells a semi-less detailed version of his scenario and his fellow inmates are just like "aw what, that's bogus >:0" and "bro thats not even that crazy of a theory 😒"
Next thing Tim knows his new friends are like "we'll help u find ur dad bro :)" (Tims lowkey glad his new meta friends offered to help cause his first choice was the LoA and that probably wouldn't have ended well) and they plan their breakout, which lucky for them Joker and a bunch of rogues break out a week later and they sneak away in the frey
