TACO TUESDAY! 🌮🌮🌮 So, I'm sure lots of you already know and love Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri's awesome "Dragons Love Tacos" (2012). BUT ... my honourary nephew and I both read it this past week, and felt equally adamant that EVERYONE needs this book. Plus we really love tacos, too. So it seemed important to share it in case any of you were missing out. "Dragons Love Tacos" is a hilarious letter to kids about everything you could possibly want to know regarding the dragon obsession with tacos (including their odd aversion to spicy salsa). Today #HispanicHeritageMonth is coming to an end (#sadface) so I might as well bless your timeline with a few more books 😜! This book here “Dragons Love Tacos” was a favorite of my lil revolutionary when he was 2. We read this book constantly and he “read” it to himself constantly 🤣🤣🤣! So, I was living my best life in #Target and I walked past the book in Spanish and I was super excited to buy it. But it ended up being a #FAIL ! Here’s why... the translation was off (and my kids noticed ...and they were not fans) I mean.. the title is not even the same “Dragons Love Tacos” became “Dragons and Tacos” so there in lies the conundrum of translated books! (And yes, I think all books should be translated, my favorite #picturebook is a book translated from French to Spanish...I will share later) ! My issue with finding books in Spanish is that the majority are books written in English first and then translated into Spanish 😒🥴! Sometimes it’s not a great translation (#noshade to the translator) or its words that are not commonly used or colloquialisms that don’t translate well. This is why, we need more books written in Spanish by Spanish speakers 🥰🥰🥰! There are great books out there but I usually find books by #ownvoices authors at book festivals and not in stores! 😐 Anyhow, I still recommend reading this book in English & Spanish !! It was a good conversation starter with my kids about the difference between the two books because of the translation!
