fern, my boy
[image description] a four-part comic consisting of digitally-colored pen drawings. The first image features two panels, Finn and Jake talking to each other in the tree house. Jake says, "Hey Finn," Finn replies, "Yeah, Jake," and Jake answers, "we gotta find a better chore for Fern, dude." Finn says, "but Fern likes egg-fetchin'" and Jake responds, "Nah, man, I think Fern just thinks he likes chicken duty." The next panel shows Fern, outside, holding an egg in each hand while a chicken pecks at his left ankle. He has a fretful expression on his face. Jake says, "they think he's food, bro," Finn replies, "oh dink," and Jake adds, "the hens keep pecking him, it's stressin' me out." The next panel shows Fern hanging some laundry on a clothes line, smiling. The final panel shows Jake and Finn on either side of Fern. Jake holds a pink t-shirt and says, "grass smell" while Fern smiles, excitedly, holding a pair of tube socks, and Finn says "mm" while holding his shirt collar to his face with a pleased expression. my prof just explained on the syllabus that he’s included more points in the class than we needed to pass, so we could skip up like?? 20 small assignments/quizzes/participation!! and still get a very high grade!!
the idea was that we could focus on assignments that played to our strengths - only do the participation stuff if we like to talk out loud - only do the quizzes/readings if we want to do the class remotely - only do online discussions if we like to talk and share opinions but struggle with anxiety in class ect.
and that’s cool enough but then he pulled up DnD character sheets with drawings he’d done of these hypothetical student player classes and how our various accessibility needs could be gamified to ‘max out’ different aspects of the class to get high grades and like!!!!!
hell yeah!!!! let’s treat accessibility in higher education not just as a necessity but as the fun, engaging, and creative aspect of learning that it is!!! I love this!!
EDIT: For proper credit or further questions about his system please find my professor on twitter @/kurtishanlon

Eukaryotic cell gang!! We love women in STEM.
The organelles of the cells have been translated into human anatomy, so the nucleus is the brain, the vacuole function as the lungs, and the mitochondria is the heart since it’s the… you already know, I don’t have to say it ;)
