WIP Wednesday — Steddie Soulmate AU
i've been picking at this lil soulmate identifying mark au for months now. one day!!
Steve didn’t understand what exactly his mother had taken away from him until he was seventeen, on the bathroom floor, bloody and dirty, head spinning, when he pulled up his sleeve and showed Robin Buckley the scar. It was near white against his summer tan, unnaturally so. But he understood it finally when Robin’s eyes landed on it.
When he told her, “I used to have one.”
When he’d whispered, “My parents got it removed.”
When he’d confessed, “Eddie Munson used to be my soul mate.”
He understood then, because Robin looked at him in a new way. Steve wasn’t used to people looking at him like that.
Looking at him with pure horror, a fierce rage, and horrible, horrible grief. She had started to cry then, fat tears rolling down her face, mouth twisted up in an ugly grimace, her chest heaving and sobbing. It was horrible to watch. She was beautiful. Steve held her while she sobbed into his shoulder and wondered why he couldn’t cry at all. It was an awful moment, he’d hated it from the second he’d opened his mouth. He wanted to disappear into the tile and grout, escape the girl who was crying for him when he couldn’t. He wasn’t used to it anymore, for someone to look at him like that.
He wasn’t used to that kind of empathy. It had been cut from him.

Danny's in his last year of high school, only a month away from graduating. No more overdue assignments or late-night cram sessions. No more crowded hallways and after-school detentions. No more stress.
He's so close he can almost taste it.
But then Dani shows up, injured and whimpering and collapsing into his lap.
He may or may not have scared the daylights out of a few lower years and almost body-slammed Dale trying to get Dani out the door and to the nearest location with first aid supplies.
So what if he spent almost an hour holed up with Dani in the nurse's office patching her up while Mr Lancer and the paramedics he called tried to coax him into unlocking the door. So what if his Obsession slipped up after not seeing Dani for more than six months, only to have her show up looking ready to destabilise and melt into a puddle of goo.
The worst part of it all is that suddenly everyone's got the wrong idea.
Over the course of his high school career, Danny's endured a lot. He's gone from being a promising student to a school-skipping degenerate with barely passable grades and a weak bladder. It's bad enough he'll always be the Fenton kid, but now he's the Fenton kid who's secretly a teen father with a kid he's been hiding since freshman year. Now he's the talk of the town and he can't escape the pointed whispers and invasive questions.
He was so, so close.

i believe in a world where when reginas on her lowest of lows, she kinda hesitates on calling janis the one person she knows who wont sugarcoat any shit from her but she doesnt because of what happened to them.
and when the day comes where shes really desperate, she finally dials the number, hands shaking as she hears the line ring, actually afraid of getting rejected.
when janis picks up the phone in the middle of the night, sleep obvious in the tone of her voice as she greets a small 'hello?' and all regina could utter was "come over… please." in the smallest voice possible.
suddenly janis is up and running, confused as hell but all the hatred she has for the blonde slips away in that moment when she heard regina's voice.
a few minutes and a whole lot of running later, janis is standing in front of reginas doorway. she's hesitating to ring or knock, afraid to wake anybody else in the house. a beat passes and suddenly she hears a ping on her phone, a text which tells her the location of a spare key hidden near the pots, the same place it has always been all those years ago.
she reaches for the key and slides it into the lock, twisting the front door as quietly as she can. the scent of the home she frequents when they were younger hits her as memories come flooding in. she takes a moment and heads inside, closing the door gently before running upstairs.
she stood in front of the familiar wooden door, a million thoughts running on her mind. she knocks out of respect.
there was no answer for a few seconds until she hears a little bit of shuffling. the doorknob twists and reveals a very tired regina, her hair messy and unkempt tied in a messy bun, and her eyes swollen from crying, stray years still evident on her cheeks.
"you came," regina says, sadness and surprise laced in her voice.
"you called," was all janis could say as she stares at the blonde in front of her.
no other words were uttered and after a moment, regina steps aside and lets janis in, gently closing the door behind them.

B. [HOLD] + Lando
i guess everyone loves a good comfort blurb huh. here u go nonnie
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
prompts: so you had a bad day - [ HOLD ]: as soon as the receiver opens the door and realizes the sender is there, sender wordlessly opens their arms out, and gives the receiver a warm, sorely needed hug.
it must've been at least two hours of constant screaming and cursing from lando, and you were getting mildly concerned. he disappeared behind that door not too long ago, with a promise that he won't be long and just wanted to play a couple games with charles, alex, and george.
but two hours was definitely beyond the 'won't be too long' mark and you decided to knock on the door of his gaming room to check up on him. you tap the door twice with your knuckles and you can hear shuffling in the room.
"yeah babe?" lando calls out through the closed door.
"just checking on you, if you wanted water or something..."
the door opens slightly, revealing a smiling lando. he's clad in a black hoodie and matching sweatpants, headphones resting around his neck. you can hear the faintly hear george and alex screaming at each other about god only knows what, and lando rolls his eyes. he leans against the door frame, shaking his head. "no i'm okay love. do you want to come say hi to the guys? and the viewers?"
you shake your head, "no no, i don't want to intrude. just checking in on you, making sure you're okay." you push his messy curls away from his forehead and he smiles.
"i'm okay sweetheart. i'll be out soon." he leans down, pressing a sweet kiss on your lips.
"okay. good luck."
and with that you turn on your heel and walk towards the living room. you hear the door shut, and lando telling the boys to shut up about something. another hour or so passes by, this time you're too distracted with a new book to really care how long your boyfriend has been streaming at this point.
it's when you hear a loud and distressed fuck coming from that very room, do you tear your eyes away from the pages in front of you. your curiosity is peaked, even more so over the immediate silence that follows the loud cry. your feet pitter patter towards the door again, knocking once. but there's no answer. you hear clicking on the other side of the door, and very minimal movement. you knock again, and still no answer.
"fuck!" he screams again, pushing his chair back slightly and huffing in his chair.
you knock again, and this time the door swings open to reveal a very pouty lando. your eyes are wide with worry as you stare up at him, the look on your face enough to show him you're wondering what's wrong.
"they sabotaged me." he whines.
you have to fight the giggle threatening to bubble from your chest. instead you open your arms, trying to smile sympathetically. he flops into your arms as you wrap him in a tight hug. you rub his back, kissing his shoulder. you feel his arms wrap around your middle, holding you tightly.
"my poor baby." he pulls away, a pout still present on his lips. you kiss his protruding bottom lip. "i think it's time to sign off."
he nods, "i think so."
you follow him over to the desk, waving at the camera. the three boys on the screen return the gesture before giving lando grief for signing off after a terrible game.
"alright guys, i'm gonna go now. gonna get sympathy cuddles from my girlfriend now."
fluff party!

what's in a rose? [shadamy]
The spring sun falls upon Shadow’s shoulders, warming his dark fur as he takes careful steps down the cobblestone path leading to Amy’s garden. Blue and purple windflowers greet him as he walks through the wooden gate, leading him to the pink hedgehog with garden gloves full of dirt and weeds. She’s surrounded by pink roses, like her namesake, and when his eyes fall on her long quills and rosy cheeks he wonders for a moment if he’s stumbled into a fairy tale.
He clears his throat, alerting her of his presence. She turns around and smiles warmly when she sees him, wiping the back of her hand across her sweaty forehead.
“Hey, Shadow! Can you hand me that trowel over there?”
She points to a wheelbarrow full of gardening tools, all of which Shadow is unfamiliar with. He walks over and starts to sift through them, eventually grabbing something that looks kind of like a triangular spatula. He brings it back to Amy and her face lights up when he hands it to her.
“Thanks a ton!” she gives him that charming, sunny smile of hers, and his heart melts once more.
He squats down and starts pulling out some of the weeds growing near the bushes. Careful, not too hard, her voice echoes in his head, or else you’ll hurt the flower’s roots, too.
She hums a little tune as she works, occasionally stopping to wipe the beads of sweat off her brow. He reaches out to brush away the pink quills plastered against her cheeks, but stops himself before she notices. When she looks at him again, he turns his face away. He feels his own cheeks grow warm, and no matter how hard he tries to suppress it, the reddened color doesn’t go away. His eyes dart back to the ground, and he prays that she hadn’t noticed.
“It’s been really nice having you help me out in the garden lately,” she sings in a bubbly voice. “These weeds are no joke! They’re practically taking over my poor flower beds.”
“Think nothing of it,” he says in a quiet voice.
“Why’d you offer to help, anyway? I didn’t think that gardening was your thing.”
Shadow falls silent again as he searches his mind for a reasonable answer.
Was it because he wished to take some of the burden off of her sunburnt shoulders?
Was it because he wanted to bury pieces of himself in the ground in hopes of growing something new that she could love, too?
Or was it because Amy was the most beautiful rose in the garden, and watching her blossom under the sun made flowers bloom within his own heart?
In the end, he simply shrugs in response.
Someday he’ll tell her how much he loves the aroma of flowers and the way she smiles at him with dirt-stained cheeks, as if he’s her favorite flower.
But for now, he’s happy just to be beside her. Dirt and all.

Frozen Dew Dro’
The originally mischievous duo-turned trio that had terrorized the DWMA had turned out to be just what each of them needed. The twins having trouble finding a meister, and Freeze the same trouble with weapons-that the unlikely outcome of their mischief being a trio to rival Freeze’s brother, Death the Kidd-was a surprise to all but Lord Death proper.
None of this had been achieved without the blonde and his two dastardly cohorts having grown close. To say they were triplets was pushing the billet for sure, but Freeze was confident to say there was no one closer to Darla and Drew than he himself, and he was proud to say the same for the twins himself. Time had passed.
Months. A year. Two. Small interactions built up. They learned his greatest fear. Being left alone. Alienated. Especially from those he loved. Freeze’s relationship with the twins gained a personal touch to each. He and Andrew would game together time to time. He would enjoy specific things with Darla. But where there was a brotherhood with Andrew, there was a romantic attraction for Darla. One that seemed to be mutual.
The trouble started small, but never seemed like anything to be worried with. Drew wasn’t the biggest fan of Freeze and Darla’s time together-seeing the romantic interest the two took in one another. From time to time nasty and hurtful things might be said in off moments, but time and time again they were forgotten or brushed under the rug in hope for better times ahead.
Freeze was a big advocate each thing having it’s fine and it’s place. This saw the topic of Drew’s displeasure being shutdown just as often as Darla’s fancies towards the blonde would be. Also saw the blonde change some compared to when the twins first met him. Not drastically, but as time goes people can alter ever so slightly.
Madness was something Freeze was plagued by. Something he hid away and suffered with alone-more and more often. But it was something the twins surely knew.
One mission saw things come to a head. He was a tough meister to the twins-any weapons really. He pushed anyone that worked with him to the absolute limit of what they had to offer him-each time. And the twins had always risen to the challenge. He was unrelenting in their missions however, and today was a particularly tough day.
The toughest so far.
Flail mace was covered and stuck with viscera,-more of a meaty blunt weapon bound to a stick by a chain that only eluded rust due to Darla’s properties. Nothing new. Axe head had just as much of Freeze’s blood on it as it did foreign, and was just as stuck with gore, though Andrews blade still peeled out from the mess, and held onto pieces of enemies with less ferocity than his sisters spiked ball-head. Things has started graceful and swift, the twin swords being useful with the males speed and agility. This mission was simple. Beat out a group of baddies. It wasn’t a particularly bad nest of them-so said intel.
Freeze was insane, period. But it truly shined the longer combat went on. Resonance for their missions normally lasted around 15 minutes at the longest, but he’d been known to push them and hour or two in training. Slowly, but surely pushing the twins to a level he knew they were capable, but maybe not so willing to be sent to. The twins were with him though. They were his closest. His best. And they stood beside him no matter what it seemed.
Intel had been wrong, It was hour 4 by now, the resonance was sturdy but there was serious damage. The blonde struggled to keep himself in check, he could tell the twins were past their limits. Without a witch soul, a demon weapon was never complete in its power. It was dangerous for death to use less powerful weapons. Freeze elicited that same danger at times. It was bearing a point that he’d either have to risk one or both of twins, or lose himself completely. Who knew how long it would take him out of play. Who knew if he’d recover. He understood his value as an asset. The twins were powerful. They were good. But I’m this line of work, they were catalyst for power. Power that Freeze had. And they weren’t the only catalyst there were.
Freeze had done all he could. Ice covered the entire complex in some way. He pained and bled from wounds that would have pushed the resonance too far to block with the twins. They were stronger than his sane ice powers. Than his fists. Kicks. So he only used them for offense now. Even mixing in kicks and punches to leverage the limit they’d all been pushed past. But it didn’t stop. The insane amount he asked from the two normally was nothing compared to today. Other had spoken about how crazy it was, while the death scythes around and instructors had held tongue. This was a level behind what anyone knew but those who had experienced it. Pure and unstopping violence.
One last enemy. One last push. For each. Next. Thing. It’s all that kept him moving. All he could tell the two he weld to keep them going.
Then suddenly-it stopped. The resonance ended and as far as the twins were concerned, they weren’t being pushed. It wasn’t obvious to the two that the blonde had dropped them to finish one last baddy by himself. It didn’t show that he’d doubled over and spilled blood and lunch from his maw. That he cleared his composure as best he could before picking up the twins, and reassuring them.
Once transformed, Andrew lit Freeze up. About his sister. About pushing them. People, Everything. The older male stonewalled, and took it-doing his best to be fine with the harsh words. They’ll pass. They’ll be fine. Then-Andrew pushed it a step farther than before. He shoved Freeze, and made a threat that challenged the status quo they had built. A consistent life that saw them with Freeze everyday. The reason he smiled most often. The comrades he fought alongside. Possibly gone.
“You really feel that way? Fine, fucker. Hit me. Speak with your actions!”
And he did. Freeze retaliated with a slap, Drew another hit, another Freeze blocked. Andrew threw another bit. And another. More and more connected. Aimed at his weak points. Drew wasn’t stupid. He knew how to fight and win in a scrap…. He’d just forgotten Freeze wasn’t exactly normal or seemed.
Each hit hurt though. More than one would ever think. Because Freeze could think through it all. A bit to an open wound, an attempt at the balls. Eyes. Head. Head. Head. Fingers, joints. Weak spots. Places Freeze identified as weak. Andrew was fighting with hate. And it was hurting.
Eyes misted as he stood and took the beating, Darla watching on as the clash between two firm men just tuned into a wailing on the blue eyed lad.
A single wound up hit-making contact with Freeze’s cheek. It didn’t budge, but it brought the dark haired male twin eye-to-eye with the blonde-years now streaming down his face as the features on his white complexion trembled with emotion. Combat spoke more words than one could ever hope to communicate any other way-and Freeze had just received what May or may not have been the full extent of Andrew feelings.
In response, through the same method of symbolism to get a point across-the crying Freeze would hug Andrew right and tight-like family. Give a kiss on the cheek to him as well, then adopt a stoic manner and start an unabated path away from the two, using his power over ice to skate away from the two in a method unable to be tailed.
Their pick up would be along shortly, and Andrews message-be it that or just anger, or that of true heart-has been received. And a message in return for both the twins.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t enough. I love you…. Goodbye.”

Destined- Killer's Party, Part 1
ugh ugh ugh i hate this. i hate this so much. but i swear if i edit it more im going to cry so. here
AO3 Link
Destined Masterpost
Words: 661
~~~
The dark water swishing around him was cold, stinging his skin. The fish he was chasing had disappeared, any movement of water and distant flickers of silver swept away.
Killer didn’t care. He found something more interesting.
The flickers of cyan in the dark water below him were easy to miss, dismissable as the last remains of sunlight glancing off of rocks. Something was moving below him, something big, something dangerous.
Killer wanted to see it. He craved the excitement, the adventure, that delicious adrenaline running through his mana. It felt like fire in his bones, blocking out any emotions, any memories. The thrill, of the chase, of the hunt, was like a drug, that frenzied peace that was so, so delicious.
Just thinking about the feeling energized him, tail flicking faster as he darted downwards. The black mass beneath him writhed, cyan flashes growing larger as part of the mass reached up to him.
His soul skipped a beat, and with a quick snap of his tail he dodged the tentacle, admiring the cyan glow for a second before shooting downwards.
Black water rushed past him as he dodged another two tentacles, navigating solely on the cyan glow and the gentle ripples in the water.
A tentacle brushed close, too close, fantastically close, to his ribcage, something catching his rib and tugging, hard. He pulled back, already feeling the magic rushing to the wound, yet the pain was distant.
A tentacle finally caught his tail, squeezing tight enough that it surpassed the haze of adrenaline. To his embarrassment, he whimpered at the pain, going limp.
A growl sounded from beneath him. Killer tried to wiggle free as the tentacle dragged him into the deep, the walls of the trench closing around him. The glow of cyan grew brighter as sunlight faded, the rocks dimly illuminated to the point Killer could barely, just barely, see them.
His vision blurred as another tentacle latched onto him, squeezing his ribcage until it creaked.
Something snapped, mana and marrow fogging up his first view of his captor.
The bright eyelight glaring into him was filled with thousands of swirling shades of blue and teal. It was glorious, gorgeous, beautiful. He slumped in the grasp of the kraken, dumb awe stripping him of any concious or reasonable thought.
His arm itched, his ribs were snapped, and there were bruises all over his tail, and yet all he could think of was how nice, amazing, pristine, perfect the other mer’s bones looked, the scars running along their tentacles and hand such a contrast to everything else about them.
The kraken growled when he flicked his tail. Killer stilled once more, and the trench filled with near-silence as the kraken resettled on the floor. Their piercing gaze landed on his chest, the floating splotch of red that was his soul.
“Y’like what ya see?” Killer quipped, wheezing slightly at the effort it took to speak.
The kraken blinked, their deep voice rumbling throughout the trench as they spoke, “Do you seriously not know what I am?”
“Uh, nope. Hot? An octopus?”
“Pardon?”
“You. You’re pretty.”
“I… I am Nightmare, lord of the deep, terror of the seas, bringer of storms, god of the moon-”
“Huh. Sounds fun.”
“You are supposed to fear me?”
“Eh. You’re pretty. Hard t’ fear ya.” Killer slurred the last part of his sentence, struggling to blink away the darkness in his vision.
Nightmare stammered out his next sentence, “There is something wrong with you.”
“Dun need you to tell me tha’.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“Again. I know that already.”
Nightmare closed his eye, or perhaps Killer's vision was just fading- the two were equally likely. Either way, the trench was swamped with peaceful darkness, the soft rumble of Nightmare’s voice, the darkness, and mana loss lulling him into a restless sleep.
He felt something brush his arm right before he tipped into unconsciousness, that annoying itch fading as he slipped into sleep.
"The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies." M16 spoke as she would take a drag from her cigarette and blow it to the side. She changed for the worse and going against her former team was something she never wanted to do and yet... was there ever a choice in that matter? "If you want to shoot me,shoot. Otherwise I'll pull the trigger on you. They used to say that it's easier to forgive an enemy than a friend. Guess they were right. I was captured and brainwashed by Sangvis Ferri. I'm not the same M16 you knew back in the days. The former member of AR has been long gone. The drunkard and failed comedian is dead." M16 never betrayed AR Team. M16 was always loyal. "M4A1 is too naive and too soft as the leader, leading the team to abunch of problems, SOP 2 is too reckless and  most of the time hold back the team alot, AR-15 literally made a mistake on her own by going to do stuff by her own will led her to her own death and making the AR team feel hopeless since her death." M16 was infected and corrupted. She didn't betray anyone, she infected herself with parapluie to get access into data that she believed could wake M4 up. Parapluie overwrite her allegiance from Griffin into Sangvis Ferri, however she still keeps her memory and her feeling about M4, she kept helping M4 even though she's on the enemy side. Also S.F probably regret turning her into a ringleader because now they have no choice but to depend on M16 despite the fact she clearly keeps helping Griffin and M4. M16 infected herself so that she could retrieve data about helping M4. However the data that M16 retrieved had nothing to do with M4's condition.   Persica was investigating the death of Lyco.   Persica exploited the fact that M16 would do ANYTHING to help M4 by lying about the nature of the data that she was asking M16 to retrieve. It was Persica's fault.
" something bothering you ? "
kez blinked , glancing over to the source of the voice in his room . ". . nah . " he responded cooly , his gaze shifting back over towards the screen infront of him .
lilo tilted her head . " is it about that guy ? " she questioned , her brows furrowing slightly. kez sent her a sharp glare , huffing out of his nose . " would you shut up about that ? " he growled , lilo rolled her eyes in response , crossing her arms across her chest .
" jesus , dude - just ask ' em out . seriously , it ' s getting annoying . " she exhaled , shaking her head to the side disapprovingly . kez simply leaned back against his bed , phone above his face as he ignored his younger sister .
lilo seemed to notice , and walked away from the messy , dark room belonging to her brother .
kez continued staring up at his phone screen , sighing whenever lilo eventually walked away . he clicked his phone off , sliding off of the bed .
he felt heavy .
he hated feeling like this .
his feelings , emotions , everything , were everywhere .
he shut the door , the pads of his fingertips pressing against his forehead . a soft groan escaped his lips as his mind raced , all sorts of questions floating around .
" whatever . " he huffed out , shaking his head as he fell back onto his bed , burying his face into the soft clothe of his pillow .
Burnout
MP tapped his fingers on his desk, lost in thought. His clock ticked behind him, dark hands moving in a steady beat. The mailman hummed a soft tune, the sound filling the room with a soothing melody. His light tenor rung out, a bright counterpart to the rattling of air in rusty vents. A drip of dew slid down his glass of cold water. It caught the light as it fell, adding another glint of shine to the circle growing on the mailman's desk. Deep ebony wood, heavily polished- practically shiny enough to be a mirror- guided another droplet to a groove, filling the scratch with liquid.
The tip of MP's pinky landed in the water, pulling him out of his fantasy. He looked around the room, at the dusty bookshelves and faded red carpet. He sighed, slumping his chin into his hands.
He was never going to clean this.
He knew that, but everyday, he told himself he would do it. This was true of a lot of things. "I'm just-t-t gett-ting old..." He laughs to himself, rubbing his eyes. It was fine, he was probably just tired. He was tired most of the time, but he must just be extra tired. That has to be the reason.
I'm fine.
He stood up with a groan, almost jumping in surprise at the ding of his phone. He sighed again, the soothing silence of his office now disturbed.
Eh. It's just work. I'll be fine.
He rubs his eyes again, picking up the device.
"You've reach-ched-d the m-mail d-depart-tment, how c-can I help-p you today?"
"Sooo..."
"Oh, god," Steve gusts, already rolling his eyes. "What now?"
Eddie, the bastard, just grins. Steve hates how smug he looks right now. It's practically nauseating, the way his smile curves up like an evil cartoon character, his dimples cutting deep into the softness of his cheeks. For all of the things Eddie does to make himself look scary and mean, Steve can only see the boyish roundness of his face and the brattiness in his big, stupid eyes, and it's all annoying.
It makes Steve want to bite him, but last time he did that, Eddie had complained for a solid week, even though he bites Steve all the time.
"Sooo," Eddie drawls again, grinning with all his teeth on display like some stupid shark. "A little birdie told me—"
"I'll kill Robin dead. I'll shave her fucking eyebrows off."
"A little birdie TOLD ME," Eddie shouts over him, practically singing now. "That you said that I was the best thing to ever happen to you."
"I'll shave her whole damn head."
"Oh, baby," Eddie swoons, theatrical and awful, his smile a mile wide. He's so goddamn annoying. "You looove meee."
"I hate you, actually."
"Sweetheart, baby, darling, love of my life," Eddie says, draping himself over Steve's back, pressing his cheek to Steve's and rubbing their faces together like a fucking dog. "You're a terrible liar. Because you really, really looove meee."
"Shut up."
"I'm the best thing that has ever happened to youuu," Eddie sings into Steve's ear, hot breath on Steve's neck, and Steve's back straightens at the feeling. He can feel the rush of blood on his face. Eddie is so goddamn annoying!
"Shut up, Ed, I swear—"
"Because, you love meee—"
Steve gives into the impulse, turns his head into Eddie's and bites the first thing he can get his teeth around, which happens to be Eddie's cheek. Eddie squawks and digs his fingers into Steve's sides, which makes Steve yelp because it tickles.
Fifteen minutes later when Robin walks through the front door, they're still wrestling on the couch, tickling and giggling and cussing each other out. They don't notice her at all, not even when she turns right back around and leaves.
What if when ghosts - including Danny - enter that form with a ghostly tail it means they have to consciously be aware of their own physical appearance.
For actual ghosts it's not that big of a deal since most of them already have the disconnection from humanity that comes with death. Many of them have either been dead too long to remember what a human form should properly look like while others just straight up don't care, and for most, it's just subconscious and they don't have to really think about it.
But Danny's a little anxious about it.
On one hand, it means that he gets to play some really great pranks on Sam and Tucker, but on the other hand, it also means that most people end up terrified and starkly reminded that their local superhero is, in fact, just one of the many ghosts that he fights.
But I'm not talking huge differences in appearance - nah, I'm a fan of unnerving, pre-eldritch Danny.
So in the heat of the moment Danny slips up and his arms may appear just a little too long, his teeth a little too sharp, his body distorted just enough to make your hair stand on end. His eyes reflect in the dark and his Lichtenburg scars stand out a little too starkly against his bloodless pallor. His suit loses that hazmat sheen and dulls to a smokey charcoal black, looking far too tight, stretched to its limits against muscle and bone, fused with his skin.
His hands get a little too big and his victorious grin stretches a little too wide across his face.
Sometimes, in the heat of battle, if you get a little too close, you can see something reminiscent of burn scars crawling up his neck and across his jaw, wrinkling his lips and creeping higher with his anger. The flesh, web-like and raised, but just as colourless as his complexion. Scars that only those who'd been saved and clutched tight in Phantom's arms have ever claimed to see.
But only sometimes.
Most of the time Phantom isn't even scary in the traditional sense - just the extreme Uncanny Valley sense. Most of the time Phantom is sarcastic and quick-witted and almost charming. Most of the time.
Nowadays Danny's got a better grip on it. It doesn't happen often.
But when it does, the Fenton's claim that it's proof of Phantom's deceit, hiding his sinister nature and deceiving Amity Park. It's something his parents never fail to use to try and prove just how inhuman he really is.
