I remember years ago after YOI had come out, I started looking up more MAPPA anime and suggesting them to my friends. I felt like MAPPA was doing something different with anime and their shows were beautiful and unique. I really wanted to support them. Looking back just makes looking at how far down they’ve fallen all the harder.

it’s the mcu so really what can you expect but it’s so unbelievably fucked up to me that they do not give a genuine single fuck about the art they’re making, like it is just commercial bullshit at this point and i just think it sucks because they were starting to make movies and invest in projects of substance and meaning with complex villains and storylines that felt real and genuine but they didn’t invest in them at all, they were shit on marketing the new phase and then were surprised the movies did poorly. like i’m still pissed at the shit they pulled with the Marvels bouncing its release constantly and any promo they did have lined up went through 4 months before the movie came out and then they were like ‘welp no one wants to see female superheroes i guess’ WHAT? and now they’re setting sam wilson up to fail by including a character that has been spoken out against from the start all while bringing back RDJ and the russo brothers to “fix” a franchise they stopped giving a true shit about 5 years ago. it’s maddening!

i try to give ppl grace when it comes to media literacy bc analyzing media is a skill you have to actively learn to sophisticate so its very understandable that ppl are at different levels w this skill. but at the same time i really do hate it when ppl say theres no such thing as a "bad way" to interpret art cuz like ok i understand our interpretations of art are shaped by our experiences in our lives but also i watched "the shining" in theaters a few days ago and it was super good so i went to watch some video essays on the movie and i saw a video about "the wendy theory" and it actually made me lose hope for media literacy way faster than literally any fandom discourse any of you buffoons have forced upon me. like im sorry but if you watched the shining and your only takeaway was well wendy was actually hallucinating the whole time cuz thats the only way the story events make sense cuz the supernatural isnt real therefore it couldnt Really Be Ghosts or whatever in this story nay this documentary where only things that can happen in real life can happen in this fictional story. it mustve been my whore wife all along. it very much gives "i really enjoyed this story, except for the parts where the story happened"
