Venice anon here! I was at the premiere just for the beginning and the end and it was, in my colleague’s opinion, “the most awkward one we’ve ever worked”, and we probably worked more than 200 between the two of us. The cast walked in without much fanfare while guests were still being seated, which is unusual. There was an award being given to the costume designer and the side of the gallery where crew was seated was louder for that than for the film. The costume designer gave a very nice thank you speech to Olivia and it seemed like things were going to go well for her but by the time we came back the vibe in the room was very different. It was one of the shortest applause we’ve ever seen, with the fact that Florence just started to walk away about 2 minutes in being the complete kiss of death. I am flabbergasted that a room full of fans and crew was so cold when it came to the end, like that is THE most forgiving room you’ll ever screen your film for. I guess they were picking up on the awkwardness of the cast vibes which was palpable. My colleague called it the “cringe mist”.
As far as Holivia interactions go, the one where they briefly whisper behind Chris’ back was literally the only one before and after the film. I was standing where I could see her directly and my girl was trying but Harry was literally saying hello to anyone who would look his way rather than locking eyes with her. I saw them standing before the screening and they were in separate groups, I’m sure they must have interacted but it definitely was not date night lol. Some of the Italian girls working as ushers there were saying “we should try, he’s obviously single” or something like that.
Re the Nick kiss, they did that because in the opening scene the characters joke kiss in the same way. We all know he would have picked Chris, cmon. Who, btw, was high as a fucking kite.
In general, this film is the talk of the town but the old motto of Olivia’s namesake about all press being good press doesn’t really apply here. She made such a spectacle of this and the film doesn’t nearly hold up, and all everyone’s talking about is how insane this rollout have been. Her and Harry are the ones that are coming out of this worse, and I’m so happy he has My Policeman coming out soon because otherwise I fear his acting career might not have the longevity we all hoped.

Dear Venice anon,
Thanks for coming back! I love your details!
Trust me, the “cringe mist” was felt all the way over here. I was dying of second hand embarrassment for H. I think everyone with eyes and a working brain could see and feel the awkward and cringe vibes. And everyone ignoring Olivia, especially Florence and Harry, was abundantly obvious!
I just hope that whatever they're doing, this marks the start of the "are they still together?" press that inevitably ends in breakup articles everywhere when the movie drops.
Olivia's got what was coming for her. She greedily lapped up every single ounce of Harry Styles' fame for herself for the past two years, and inserted herself in every single tabloid and narrative to sell this movie. Her team must SUCK, because evidently they're a bunch of yes-people, bc no way a good team would have advised her to do this knowing full well her movie doesn't hold up. Heck, the entire fandom has been saying this for years - so that's evidence enough.
I kind of love that Harry kissed Nick after the movie was shown. Everyone in attendance obviously knew his joke - but to literally the rest of the world who hasn't seen the movie yet, to them and the press, it's Harry Styles excitedly kissing his male co-star after ignoring his alleged girlfriend during her own movie premiere. THAT speaks volumes tbh.
I agree, I am SO GLAD that H has My Policeman coming bc all the press he's gotten from DWD and his interviews, paired with the film's terrible reviews would have meant certain death to his acting career otherwise. "Just another singer who thinks they can act". I'm VERY hopeful that his name and acting career are redeemed thru My Policeman. The film, and Harry's Tom, have gotten nothing but praise so far. And the fact that the whole cast has already won an award is so telling.
I knewwwww Chris was high as kite kauhgdkasjhd he looked it. Damn he had a lot on his shoulders: promoting a movie he doesn't want to be associated with, with a director he doesn't like, for a film he knows is shit, AND he was the designated Holivia buffer all day, having to sit and stand between them or next to Olivia all day long so that H could be as far from her as possible. GOD - I too would like to not be sober for that.
I'm sad for Harry that Olivia's greed, unprofessionalism and lack of directing talent affected his performance in this movie so terribly. he got no time to rehearse, as he jumped on the project merely a few weeks before filming. Had no time to work thru things with a dialect coach, flesh out scenes or receive good direction for the final takes.
Glad your friend realizes his queerness. Sad it had to be this way tho. It does remind me of when we got those god awful holivia yacht kissing pap pics - and everyone was like "ewwww Harry Styles must be terrible in bed! He has no sex appeal or knows how to touch that woman!".......which....well....self explanatory. I hope Harry gets to redeem his acting skills in a new movie where he can show that with a proper director, professional environment and adequate time for rehearsals he too can convey sexual chemistry and passion with a woman on screen. Real life tho....better step away from the stunts for a while.

If you haven't watched FriendlySpaceNinja's video on Don't Worry Darling, you should. He's a film/TV critic (albeit on YouTube, but he's legit), and he was really excited for DWD... And ended up hating it. It's so satisfying to watch.
Oh that is so satisfying. And he’s super accurate about his summary. It really could have been great. But it ended up aesthetically pleasing but a complete mess that made no sense at all (kind of like Olivia).

Ok, reviews aren't good (how fuckin' horrendous must it be to be sitting in the premiere for 2 hours while the reviews break?), BUT they're not terrible. They're just "meh this could have been better it's style over substance". And Harry on the whole comes out of them well. I've only read one negative review of his performance so far (BBC).
Variety says "Jack, played by Styles with a wholesome cunning that marks him as a natural screen actor" and "What is convincing is how easily Styles sheds his pop-star flamboyance, even as he retains his British accent and takes over one party scene by dancing as if he were in a ’40s musical. There’s actually something quite old-fashioned about Styles. With his popping eyes, floppy shock of hair, and saturnine suaveness, he recalls the young Frank Sinatra as an actor. It’s too early to tell where he’s going in movies, but if he wants to he could have a real run in them"

Did you watch it? I feel like as soon as that link dropped we were all watching it simultaneously 😅
Mhmm. It’s just a shame isn’t it? Everything surrounding the movie. I’m not gonna lie, I tried my best, but the stunt really ruined the entire experience for me. I wish things were different.
I don’t think there’s much left to be said at this point, it’s just a matter of opinion. For me, I don’t think it’s an awful movie, but it’s also not good. And that’s coming from someone who really loves psycho thrillers, so although the plot is quite predictable and cliché, I do think it had some potential there, but it just didn’t work for me. Florence is great, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her even in the scenes she was with Harry.
I don’t think Harry’s acting was bad, at all. His character is just not a very strong one, in the first place. It’s a bit flat, so I understand that some people could read that simply as bad acting, but that wasn’t the case in my opinion. So, again, it’s such a shame. The entire thing just makes me sad, considering how much effort was put into the movie, and what it meant for Harry’s career. For it to turn out the way it did.

No one asked for it but here are my thoughts after watching Dont Worry Darling:
I really don’t like Olivia W and I hate this stunt but I’m gonna keep my feeling about that off this and try to take about it as if idk anything about Harry or the stunt.
SPOILERS AHEAD
I’m on mobile so I can’t put it under a cut sorry
So a quick recap. Alice and Jack just moved to a community called Victory. Alice I’d a housewife, Jack works everyday and a technical engineer? Alice starts having weird visions and weird shit starts happening around her. Eventually she starts questioning wtf is going on, what her husband is really doing for work, wtf is up with his boss etc. eventually she realizes her bf Jack has put her in a simulation and that in reality she was an overworked nurse (?) surgeron(?) idk and he’s kind of lame and has no job lol. He put her in a simulation and he gets to live in the real world to make money to pay for the simulation and come back to her for a few hours everyday where they get to live the perfect life. She figures everything out and tries to escape.
I guess I’ll start with things I liked?
The outfits were great. The aesthetic was pretty in general. Florence was great. Chris was great. Gemma was great (scary but great. I always see her in movies as this super Nice, innocent, sweet, etc. but seeing her be a bit more sinister was noiiice, I wish she wasn’t pushed as some random background character and I wish I got to see more of her character fleshed out a bit. She was sexy af.) Harry was good, he played his role well and although there were moments where he over acted a bit or was a bit stiff (I think the scenes where he had an American accent was stiff and I think it’s because he had to use an accent so he wasn’t as natural in those scenes), overall he was a believable Jack.
So here are a few things I had issues with.
There were so many random scenes that didn’t really get tied up. Like, what was up with the empty eggs? This was before everything, literally like 10 mins in. She hadn’t seen Margaret at this point or met Frank. It was just there and then moves back to a normal scene. What happened to the plane? Where did it come from? Was it just a virus or a glitch? Cause Margaret was holding a plane too. Is the plane something people see when they’re starting to question the simulation? They never explain. There was alot of annoying talking over each other that I understand was supposed to make it look like just regular people chattering about going on with their normal lives but I feel like there was alot of unnecessary talking that don’t really push the plot. Lot of random filler scenes for the aesthetic where something else could’ve been added to maybe flesh out other characters more. Speaking of that, Let’s talk about Gemma. I’ve only ever seen her as a “good girl” in other roles so it was really nice to see her play someone who got angry lol. But I wanted to know more about her character. Was she in In on it? Was she the mastermind the entire time? What were her motivations? Her character was interesting and I would’ve loved to have seen more. Bunny’s character was also another weird one. She eventually comes clean and tells Alice that she knows wtf is going on, that she chose this life. Does that mean she put her husband in the simulation? If she did then shouldn’t she be the one leaving everyday? If so then why was he trying to get Alice in the end and protect the secret. Does he also know and just decided that they’ll do this together? Another thing was confused about was the scene where the twist was revealed, the question are asks who their chosen partner is and whether or not they have a relationship outside of the simulation. Does it mean that all the people in there are real life partners or did some random weirdo asshole just kidnap a woman and bring them there to be their wife? Idk that one doesn’t really matter that’s just me overthinking. And back again to Frank and Shelley, are they both free to come and go to the simulation as they please? What about the kids? Are all kids fake or just Bunny’s? Is the pregnant one always pregnant? Or does she eventually have that baby? When Alice was “reset” and came back brand new, how long after that did she remember everything again? Can everyone be reset? Why didn’t they just reset Margaret? What was up with the tap dancing? Was Frank just trying to humiliate Jack? And then ending, we assume that she wakes up because of the sound of her gasping but does that mean she’s free or were there guys waiting for her wherever she was to then take her out in the real world?
Over all, I feel like this movie could’ve been very interesting if it had better writing and directing. There are so many scenes that felt unnecessary that took space for scenes that could’ve tied up some lose ends. The pacing also felt off, we never know how much time passes in between black outs, or just between scenes in general. Specially at the end after she’s been reset. I couldn’t tell if it all took place in a couple weeks or have they been there for years. I’m assuming so considering Jacks hair? If so, how did she get triggered all of a sudden to wake up? Idk I just feel like there are so many unanswered questions and holes in the story that could’ve been answered if they weren’t trying to make the movie look so pretty. At the end of it, o feel like Harry got it right. This movie feels like a movie. If you like watching movies to turn off your brain and suspend disbelief and you aren’t they type to overthink/over analyze, then this movie would be entertaining enough for you. If you’re the type who likes deeper psychological thrillers, then you might end up going “huh?” At the end of the movie.

okay here’s my dwd review, buckle up 🫡
Tumblr media
beginning to middle was pretty slow, middle to end was good!
the fluffy scenes between Alice and Jack were done really well, the chemistry between Harry and Flo felt so natural
HARRY LOOKED SO HANDSOME 😩 ON HIS PRETTY BOY SHIT FR!! The camera loves him, it makes me sick
Chris Pine played an excellent villain, he really embodies that egotistical manipulative psycho role perfectly
I felt like the plotline of Alice starting to realize something was wrong happened way too abruptly and inorganically. Like she just randomly started having flashbacks and doubts for no reason. I know Margaret kinda played a part in it, but Alice’s initial doubts didn’t really have much to do with her. I know the song was also a part of it, but its implied that she’s been harmlessly thinking about the tune for a while, and the idea that it just spontaneously triggers her despite the fact that she had it in her head for a long time is kinda unrealistic to me 🤷‍♀️ When things happen in a series of events/a domino effect, it really builds an exciting plot, and that’s what was missing from the beginning. I remember that in the original script, Alice finds a key while she’s doing Jack’s laundry, and her curiosity about its purpose is was leads her to find the portal and causes everything to unfold. Personally, I feel like they should have kept that, or at least kept the theme of it and have something like that set everything off.
Speaking of the tune, Harry did a really good job with it!! It was the perfect amount of creepy and it fit the entire film to a T
The entire dancing scene just seemed very unnecessary to me tbh! I heard a take about how it’s supposed to be a metaphor for how Frank puppeteers Jack and the entire community bc he’s literally seen as a god by them, which makes sense ofc, but the only reason I understand that analogy is because it was brought to my attention. Someone who is watching the movie and trying to draw their own conclusions from it probably wouldn’t have realized that’s what it was about (I’m using my sister as an example: she went with me and had absolutely no clue what the dancing was about and thought it was stupid 💀)
The whole thing with the plane crash was so ??? it’s one of those things that just felt like it was scribbled into the plot for the sake of haphazardly connecting some dots
The tension/face-off between Alice and Frank was 🤌 I loved the way he challenged her and she took it in stride and put up a good fight on her end. And Gemma’s entire ruthless monologue was done so well on her part
Flo’s acting is insane!! Like her talent never fails to leave me speechless, the way she’s so good with microexpressions and acting with her eyes…I adore her. The character shift she underwent when she had her epiphany and finally remembered her real life?? How she went from a proper housewife to cursing and yelling and fighting back?? 🫡
The whole scene after the dinner where Alice and Jack are discussing running away and then she gets taken by the Victory people was done really well!! Again, Flo’s acting in the car scene was so raw and realistic, 10/10. And Harry’s acting in this scene also really impressed me, I feel like he kept up with Flo nicely, which I honestly didn’t expect at all LMAO 💀 he did well with his expressions, his body language, and his dialogue, and I was like wow okay he has good potential
As for his acting across the entire film, I think he did good! He was going up against some legendary, experienced people (Flo, Chris, Gemma), so I expected it to be a very starch contrast in terms of talent to the point where he’d likely get overshadowed/stick out, but he managed to hold his own!! I remember when the Eternals scene came out, I was one of the people who felt that it looked very fake; he didn’t seem like an actual character, he just seemed like Harry in a superhero suit reciting some lines 💀 but in this movie, I think he actually embodied his role, and it felt like he was the character, and that he was playing who he was meant to play. Which is great, cause I was terrified that he’d flop and embarrass us 😭 a summary: he did good, still needs some work (which is expected), but he did his job and it was a nice acting debut on his part
I was left wanting some more depth to the characters. I wanted to know more about Jack’s background/identity in their real life, about Frank and what led him to create Victory, and how Jack discovered Victory and what he had to do in order to put Alice in it. She was a surgeon in a hospital and had tons of people depending on her, so how did he just manage to basically rip her from her career and her life without anyone coming to look for her?? What about her family, who would definitely try to come find her if they hadn’t heard from her in a while?? And his family?? Stuff like that. And also, I wanted to know much more about Jack and Alice’s marriage before the simulation (how they met, how their relationship developed, when they got married, how and when things started going wrong after he lost his job, why he was such a useless bum 💀 etc etc etc).
Ending was good, you could see Jack had some major screws lose by that point and Harry portrayed that well!! The chase scene was cool, but when she stopped and literally just stood there thinking about him I was like girl that man is DEAD!!!! GO GO GO!!!! and then she woke up and it’s implied she survives and gets to go back to her life 🫡 good for her
This movie being marketed as an ode to female pleasure completely missed the mark. The only “pleasurable” thing was the surface-level sex, which honestly felt unnecessary to me, if I’m being honest. The scenes just felt thrown in there, which makes me believe that the only reason they exist in the first place is merely to use them as a way to draw people in since it’s Harry having sex 🤷‍♀️ one would have been more than enough, and it’s the only one that made any type of sense to me: the one where Frank is watching them. Gross and fucked up, I KNOW, but it’s the one that actually aligns with themes in the film. Again, Frank is seen as this overlord figure in the community, and him looming over that entire exchange when Jack and Alice thought they had privacy kinda reminds me of that saying that goes, “God sees all.”, which is later supported further by how Frank informs Alice that he knows about her attempt to get Bunny on her side, implying that he’s “always watching.” That was my take on it, anyways, so I can see how that one was useful to the plot. The other scene was just there SJDNSNDNSN
That’s all I have to say, I think!! All in all, I give it a 7/10. I was entertained, but I was left wanting more from it, especially with how long it took for this movie to finally come out

dont worry darling rant review
okay look, i watched the movie yesterday and i’ve got to say i wasn’t completely disappointed. the storyline itself (while full of plotholes) was enjoyable to an extent.
spoilers further down
Tumblr media
the acting by florence was phenomenal (but i expected nothing less).
olivia’s part (imo, without my prejudice against her) was way too involved, especially with how her part ended???
kiki and asif should have been seen more. kiki’s character, margaret, was the literal catalyst of the fucking film and she had maybe six or so scenes in total.
as for chris pine, he did a rlly great job of playing a creepy ass man. and that’s all i’ll say.
and harry? well, it wasn’t as bad as i thought it was going to but i’m fully convinced that they had to rewrite his part british bc he couldn’t drop the accent for long enough. (as evidenced by an attempted american accent in one of the films scenes). i will say tho, im not going to be judging harry too hard, he’s still a new actor and i think the PR for (and general drama surrounding) this movie fucked up his chances of doing rlly well. i mean harry was the man that christopher nolan SPECIFICALLY wanted to be in his film dunkirk. so i still have hope for harry, maybe psychological thrillers just aren’t his bag.
Tumblr media
also, olivia wilde trying to sell this show (before it’s release) as like an ode to female pleasure is utter bullshit. there are two or three ‘sex’ scenes in the movie and with how it ends and what happens later on… they fall more into dub con content than anything else. ode to female pleasure my fucking ass.
like i said, i think that the general drama surrounding the film (harry/olivia relationship? olivia/shia debacle? olivia/florence rivalry?) rlly fucked the public’s reception of the film itself.
too many unanswered questions and an ending that left me unsatisfied.
Tumblr media
slight spoilers ahead
from a literary and writing standpoint, i think that they introduced the conflict too early. you’re like ten or fifteen minutes into the film and alice (florence) is already having flashbacks to her real life.
i get that time is of the essence in movies like this, but you also have to earn what you’re trying to sell to your audience.
yet another reason why i’m so mad that they didn’t include margaret (kiki) more. she’s the first one to question what the victory project is rlly doing and they brush her off like she doesn’t actually matter.
bunny’s (olivia) ending fucked me up. the whole movie bunny has been telling alice that basically alice needs to get her shit together. “you sound like margaret” “you’re acting like margaret”—WELL WE WOULDNT FUCKING KNOW BC YOU CUT MARGARET FROM THE FUCKING FILM OLIVIA— when come to find out bunny is the only woman awake in all of victory bc “her kids are here” which is first off, a major fucking unexplained plot hole. did she wake up like alice has been? did her husband tell her abt the victory project immediately? did she willing submit to the victory project? DOES FRANK (chris) KNOW THAT SHES AWAKE?
and i know that some ppl won’t like this but jack (harry) looks like a backwater redneck in the reality scene at the end. like when he’s laying down beside alice to go back into the victory project… straight hillbilly bob on the bed— i can’t y’all
anyway, i’ll probably think of more thoughts as i process this movie but all in all, i wouldn’t not recommend it but i wouldn’t not not recommend it. like i’ve seen it once but it not going to go out of my way to watch it again
let me know your thoughts

Your trusty Venice anon here! Just walked out of the first screening so there will be some spoilers ahead. Let me start by saying that applause was very tepid, and what I found odd is that it started several seconds after the title card, like someone remembered that we were supposed to applaud. Not a great sign.
Outside, what I mostly heard was confusion. People asking each other what the ending was and just going over some plot points that were confusing. I saw one girl vehemently go after Olivia and calling her a fake feminist, and one guy commented “the normies are going to love it” which I found very funny. Also lots of people commenting on Harry’s accent and him being British in the film, and mocking how that is explained in the story.
Now, my two cents on the film. It LOOKS great, starts out sleek and compelling, but then it folds onto itself and the last act is just very weak in my opinion. Lots of plot holes and things that aren’t really explained properly. Also Alice’s descent into madness is kind of repetitive and the pacing is off in the middle half. Poor Florence carries the whole damn thing and it pains me to say that one of the weakest things about the film is Harry. He is not bad per say but just somehow blank? I don’t know how to explain it but it’s like his alien charm doesn’t translate well? It’s like he’s out of focus (not literally of course) and his character is just sort of blank when it really should be the center of it all. Also, his look for the “real life” scenes is really something, the internet is going to go nuts. In general, i feel like his star power is much less than what anyone anticipated, and is completely wiped out by Florence’s. Just one last thing even though I might think of more stuff later on, those notorious sex scenes are among the least sexy I’ve seen. Not sure if it’s because that is clearly the first time that man has had his head or his hands between a woman’s legs or because their chemistry is a bit off, but they feel rushed and performative, like they were put there just to be able to say they are. Come to think of it, the whole film kind of feels like that.
Tumblr media
Dear lovely Venice anon!
Thank you for coming back! Apologies for taking so long to post these, timezones and all.
Honestly, what Olivia has been trying to portray this movie as, and what this movie is actually like are entirely different things. I think she is so full of herself, and so obsessed with sex, making everything "sexy", and pushing that dated "edgy" 2000s over sexualization of women, that she is unable to actually go beyond it to explain her own movie. Her narrative for promotion is entirely disconnected from what she is actually promoting.
About the alleged sex scene she was denied to include in the trailer: I think she was lying. Again, to continue her disconnected sex campaign. Everyone who saw the test screenings of the movie said that the only 2 sex scenes are the ones that *are* in the trailer. There is no additional sex scene that didn't get to be in the trailer. She lied in order to push her sex campaign and be edgy. That was her whole point in that interview. Saying that society are puritans and don't want to see female pleasure or women enjoying sex. And she proved her point by bringing up this non-existent sex scene that's not even in the final cut of the movie. All of this, again, has nothing to do with the movie. It's just the only thing her brain thinks of at all times.
I'm sad that Harry may be getting the worst of it in reviews. I hope critics and the public can see the poor direction he got from Olivia, and how that translated into this "blank" performance next to Florence's.
Also, Olivia was there? I thought she would only be at the later screening? Who called her a fake feminist? A fan, a journalist or rando person?
Thank you so much for coming back and telling us your experience! If you have more details, please do let us know!

youtube(.)com(/)watch?v=xxgiW1McEMo Gina, just like you, I haven't watched dwd but I follow this channel and he just made a video on it. It is kinda amazing that he is so on point criticizing certain aspects of the movie and comes up with basic solutions for them whilst stating reasons as to why the movie has a problem connecting with the audience, but a certain director and a studio couldn't fix those up. Btw, he is so right in saying that 38% on rotten tomatoes is generous for this movie 🫠
I’m just embarrassed for anyone who gave this movie a positive review.

MY THOUGHTS IN DWD
Just watched dwd and I have to say that it was actually pretty good.
I've always loved thrillers and this was no exception. The way the sound effects kept me fixated on the screen all the time, Florence's performance (perfect as usual), the actors were incredible, not to mention that the story gets you thinking and because some things weren’t explain in the movie after watching it I keep thinking about it and making theories in my head, and soundtrack 🤌 chef kiss.
And know finally I understand the incredible quote of Harry (note the sarcasm ahah) “This movie feels like a movie” , because it does, it was made to be in the theaters and seen in a big screen. Of course it wasn’t 100% perfect rarely films are, but in my opinion this was amazing. And I honestly think that Harry did pretty well, he isn’t any Florence (in the acting business) but I also didn't think he was bad! And I really have to admit that Olivia is an incredible director and I could already see it in the Booksmart movie that she directed a few years ago and I saw it now.
So yes I recommend this movie! (Not that any one asked 😂)
