Something I find really interesting about the Lotus' dialogue after the Lotus Eaters is her use of the word 'witch'.

"I was the Daughter. I became the Mother. In time, I shall be the Witch, blind once again, empty of all but wisdom." -Lotus

'Witch' has very specific connotations. Close enough to another similar word that I can't help but feel like it has to be a deliberate reference to the Triple Goddess ─ Maiden, Mother, Crone. These are figures from neopaganism that symbolizes the stages of a woman's life. Eleanor (proto-Nyx) even outright calls her the triple-faced goddess. While it definitely could just refer to Lotus, Margulis and Natah, what if we have yet to see her final form?

She was first Natah, the daughter of Hunhow. Then she assimilated Margulis' form and became the Lotus, mother to the Tenno. And now, she is to be the witch. Even urging us not to mourn should she turn into something we don't recognize. I'm very excited to see what exactly that will look like for her and how her role could potentially change. The quest made a point that the Operator will be staying behind while Drifter is the one chosen for the quest to 1999. Maybe instead of the mother-child dynamic that we've had for a decade, we'll get to see what kind of relationship she might have with the Drifter (<-copium)

I'm not much of a Greek Myth Lorehead but I've read up a bit on The Triple Goddess Hecate (who I've been told that, in Hades 2, was voiced by Amelia Tyler... who is now also voicing our dear Eleanor Nightingale. Worth mentioning cuz u just know rebb was kicking her feet and giggling at being able to pull that together). Hecate's status as a gatekeeper type figure, as i understand it, is very interesting when u apply it to the Lotus...

I'm just thinking about how meta the whole "Lotus' ascent to godhood" plot thread is. It's like a direct parallel to her voice actress' "intern to creative director" journey LMAO. It's a bloody golden opportunity and i hope they're cashing all in on Goddess!Lotus and everything it'll entail...

Not to mention lorewise and what it means for the Lotus' own arc!! To be someone constantly being pulled around by others to fulfil their own purposes, having her own wants neglected, shamed, belittled... To becoming a Witch/Crone/Gatekeeper a la Hecate -- now the one potentially capable of denying or approving others' needs and goals...? Ugh, that's so fucking JUICY. What a bloody incredible character.

Lotus mentions becoming "empty of all but wisdom", and I've seen someone theorize that she'll become even more emotionless and distant as a shield against Wally because it thrives on emotions. This theory scares me because it could very well happen... Not like Space Mom already has a history of being distant and reluctant to tell us how she's feeling... *Sniffles*...

There's also the theories about assigning Natah/Lotus/Margulis as the Maiden/Mother/Crone...

The most surface level reading would be Margulis = Maiden, Lotus = Mother, Natah = Crone, but imo when people make this read they're kinda hinging on their appearances lol. Pretty Margulis, "Ugly" Natah... Maybe even just "Good mom who can do no wrong" and "evil Sentient who led part of an assault on the Origin System".

I would like to think that it isn't that shallow, buuuut their personalities do fit the bill when u bring the "phases of a woman's life" theme to it.

Margulis' naivete, or the shattering of it, as the Maiden:

"No, Ballas, no more destruction. Maybe they're meant to save us."

"You lied to me, Ballas. You're no different than the rest of them."

Natah's headstrong wisdom, or her desire for it, as the Crone:

"I am the witness, the victim, the judge. My family has returned. Your trial, soon to begin."

"The times ahead will need decisiveness. Power."

And Natah does die in TNW. Her death is a very big part of the quest lol. The "End of life" theming of the Crone fits her very well... And the very first "gatekeeper/crone judges and makes the decision for you" thing she did was killing ballas. So i get it!

Inversely... You could also assign Natah as the Maiden and Margulis as the Mother because of the simple "Natah was the Daughter, now I am the Mother" quote. After all, Lotus before TNW was living very much under Margulis' shadow, assimilating into her like you mentioned. This read leaves Lotus to be the Crone; the empty, wise Witch we have yet to see.

The more i write this the more I wanna say: Damn. These 3 were always meant to converge into each other. Their stories are all sides of each others' respective coins and it almost feels arbitrary to chuck them into strict roles, even if symbolic.

I definitely think we're gonna see her "Triple Goddess Final Form" in the future. It's too good a story beat. Too sexy. DE HAS to do it. I have my platinum ready. Give me all the skins.

As for the DrifterLotus copium....... Hehehe. I don't think DE will ever do anything romantic/sexual with them. i think they're just gonna cap their relationship off at "they care immensely for each other" because they might be concerned about the questionable pseudo incest implications looming over anything to do with Lotus and the Tenno.

Like don't get me wrong; Drifter is their own person and Lotus of all people would be comfortable with the concept of "people having identical faces won't make them the same person". I just feel like DE might not be willing to play with them in that way. For perfectly understandable reasons... The Player Tenno are very much "colouring book" characters for the OC lovers so it seems smart to keep them relatively open-ended.

But. Don't worry. Check my AO3 at the end of the week. I hope you'll find something that brings u even a little bit of cheer ;3

I’ll tell you, they both hurt! I remember when I first learned Daria was considering killing Emi off in a car accident. She was just a kid in her story by then 😭😭 and Ingrid my sweet baby Ingrid! That truly made me cry cause it was just so unexpected for her family and they had just lost Eleanor the year before!

His Grimalldi side really did come out! But, he had to exile her. It was expected. With Helene out of Monaca, it gave the people the chance to see Leonora as their Crown Princess.

Eleanor became Queen 😭😭

He was a bit disappointed, but respected her decision. The dynamic between Milian and Elora changed a lot! Their marriage was never the same, but they remained married. Elora supported her daughter. 

William was completely heartbroken about his baby girl but he had to push aside his grief for Leonora. 

Zola and Chris reunite romantically YEARS after Emi’s death. Amelia didn’t have anything to say about it - and Zola worked really hard to help repair Chris and his kids relationships. 

Yes, the Grimalldis were hit really hard back to back. First Eleanor and then her sweet Ingrid 😭😭 That was the hardest thing to write. Her and Jacob leaving Leonora an orphan. 

Milian and Laurie grew closer after the plane crash, They both loved their sister. 

Yes, I knew Ingrid was going to have a short life. I didn’t know until recently that her daughter would one day be Queen. It just felt right.

yeah, i was shocked when I first learned Daria planned on emi having a short life 🤧 though it could change if she ever comes back but from what I remember Emi was going to die young. Chris growing distant from the kiddos because he felt guilty he survived while their mother did not was also something she was toying with and I decided to go with it because that would be the one thing he could never imagine doing. Being an absent father like his own was. Yet, his grief got in the way.

another thing i wanted to talk about is nyo!america and being the first born as a woman? how unlike alfred, she wouldn’t even be considered a candidate for being his heir. matthew having a chance but bc of the misogyny that plagues society then (and still now)

just. misogyny in father daughter relationships is very prominent in within ppls lives (ie, how fathers treat their sons is VERY different how they treat their daughters) and i would love to explore that! especially with ur portrayal of nz being a woman, yknow? :33

This is one of the reasons why I still portray America as a man in my writing/art, because the relationship between Arthur and Amelia would be so so different.

I can still see her as a golden child, but more in the trophy-like sense. I think Arthur would still have her educated in much the same way as Alfred, because his little girl is still brilliant as they come. I can see them starting with a very Thomas and Margaret More-esque parent-child dynamic. Arthur recognizes that aspect of her talent and wants her educated, but the caveat is that she still adhere to feminine standards of the time. In Alfred’s case the tension rose between him and Arthur because he wanted to be given more responsibility as the heir while Arthur felt it was more appropriate for him to remain the dutiful son. With Amelia it’s more a case of her knowing she is everything Arthur could want in an heir while Arthur affirms she serves him best by staying his sweet, bright, but obedient little girl. He expects her to act as a model for Matthew while she fully knows he affords Matthew more gendered privileges and freedoms (or neglect in some views tbh).

Matthew in this scenario is still pretty neglected I think because it does still take Arthur a while for him to actually see him in a paternal way. In a way he’s more of a disappointment because his daughter is everything his son is not. If anything, Matthew better fits what he’d expect out of a daughter: dreamy, sensitive, dutiful. Yet he’s the son Arthur’s got (until Ralph that is). He could get away with murder. Matthew is already very gender to me, but that’s amplified in an Amelia situation.

I think that Eleanor and Arthur are such an odd case because he is more indulgent with her than he ever was with his other children. I think this stems both from her gender and Arthur learning from the past a little. She also takes after him a little more in personality than Alfred/Amelia did, so he has a better understanding of how she ticks. She is less affected and less prone to outbursts than Alfred/Amelia, a bit less idealistic. Eleanor also never occupied the same space Alfred/Amelia had, she’s the youngest, so she never has this expectation of being or succeeding the old man. She still pushes the envelope and wants more independence, just not in the same ways. Arthur allows her to be educated, he allows her a little more freedom. There is still certainly a lot of expectation he has about how she should carry herself, especially in the context of Victorian/Edwardian womanhood. I just think he lays off a little more because of what happened before with his eldest.

This is by no means saying that Eleanor would have been a “better” daughter than Amelia, because they’re both being measured by sexist standards. Eleanor has the benefit of being the youngest and being born in a time period where there’s been more social change regarding women. Amelia would’ve been the guinea pig, dealing with a slightly different set of standards, and importantly dealing with the responsibility and standards of being the eldest on top of the standards placed on a daughter. They would be in different positions with different personalities, which always has an effect.

Discourse of the day (TM) was dominated by the news that Eleanor seems to have a new job! An announcement went out that she had been signed by River Talent Management (run by a woman who has formerly been both a Syco exec and a manager at Modest who handled 1D) as a model. The news was then picked up by TBHonest (a wordpress fan site with a quality of writing that basically confirms that they're posting fan sourced material, but interesting for their large quantity of both Eleanor focused and larrie-louie content, not a combo you see every day.) Eleanor seems to have been signed with River since about August. The fandom, as improbably but endearingly optimistic as ever, took this as confirmation that her current employment with Louis was ending and immediately started popping the champagne corks and trending video of the unforgettable occasion when 1D gleefully sang I Will Survive-- Gloria Gaynor's iconic breakup song/gay anthem of all gay anthems and mainstay of pride festivals and drag shows the world over-- onstage in response to the first Elounor breakup, which brings us to the disco-course of the day: Gloria Gaynor herself retweeted the vid! Of Harry singing her song! Tagging him! With sparkly emojis!! And followed up by going through and liking and answering hundreds of replies, most of them “omg queen” but also an assortment of teary larrie tweets and “she definitely went through the thing and was so confused but a queen we stan.”

Liam posted about anti-bullying campaign Spirit Day, an LGBTQ awareness day started in 2010 by a teen to draw awareness to the high suicide numbers among queer youth.“Use your voice & support LGBTQ youth,” says his post, perfectly describing what he himself is doing. Louis retweeted a petition to parliament for measures to end child food poverty in the UK (with concrete proposals about school meals and vouchers) from its author Marcus Rashford, a football player who has been making big waves since March with his work against child poverty in the UK. LTHQ continues to register new versions of old songs, but it seems it's just paperwork shuffling and nothing interesting. And Harry has won a fan voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award at the BBMAs and the masses are thirsty... to be thanked! Twitter harries will really get mad at anyone, not even Harry himself is exempt! HSHQ posted about the award, does that count? (Oh I'm getting a transmission...what's that? Ah they're saying NO that doesn't count and we're extra insulted by that acknowledgment that you know it's happening but haven't posted a video, go to hell Jeffrey! Loads more Niall interview stuff as he makes the rounds chatting about his concert. He says he “wrote some awful stuff, then wrote some better stuff”, and now is writing “some really good stuff” but he doesn't know when we'll hear it, and that this time gives him “a chance to think about what I wanna do next. What I wanna write about. How it’s gonna sound. Who I’m gonna work with.” He weighs in on online dynamics-- “by saying stuff on twitter, I’ll probably be fueling an argument or some sort of trolling towards that particular person... what I’m gonna say is that there are trolls on there and it just depends on how you take it... a lot of people are a lot more sensitive than I would be, and effectively get bullied on a day to day basis,” but that he was going to continue to “give it out to politicians.” Fans set out to prove him right about bullying by being so nasty in the replies to girlfriend Amelia's supportive hand clap emojis on his post announcing the concert that she deleted the comment, because apparently they don't like her on account of her... existing? Nice, guys, real classy. Anyway other tidbits, he tells us him and Shawn (Mendes) send each other stuff they're working on for honest feedback, that he sent Zayn a message about the zaby, and that if acting is anything like doing music videos he's not interested (“they're such a pain”) but he'd be into doing an animated voiceover and using his accents which he would in fact be PERFECT at!
