Four antique Valentines from the same estate. There are several other cards that are not Valentine's. One of these has a postmark date of 1907. Many of the cards are signed "Mom". One of these cards is signed "your sweetheart" and one other one is signed ^your little wife." The handwriting looks to be the same. The final two cards are made more expensively and the others. For just $1100.00 Huge 19th century, hand carved Treenware wood bowl and matching hand carved burl wood ladle. Bowl has a brass repair done in the early 20th century. The bowl stands appx 6 1/2" tall. It has an irregular round shape and has a large diameter that varies from 18 1/2" to 20". The ladle is 17 1/4" long and the scoop part is appx 5" diameter. Scoop is Hand carved out of burl. It also has a hole on the end for hanging if you choose. . We have had it looked at by experts at the Missouri History Museum. They stated that it was more than likely hand carved by one of the early 19th century German immigrants that settled in this area. The repair is an early 20th century brass electrical staple, which also shows the ingenuity of the German craftsmanship. I had this beauty authenticated and the valuation expert also dated it, early 19th century. The bowl is split down the center and was probably dropped. It was such a prized family piece that they did the brass repair on it. The ladle has design carving marks on the handle. The markings are interesting in that they could be year markings or the markings of the family. I, myself think the markings resemble a fish. These bowls were typically and traditionally, handed down from generation to generation. The bowl is hand turned/carved with a rim and 2 carved out resting slots so the ladle can rest on either side of the bowl. Both items have a beautiful age patina consistent with it's age and use. Wood type is unknown. This is a rare rare rare museum quality set. I feel honored to have it in my possession for this short time.
