Damn, when Daniel Tompkins sang: "My fate, I fray these ends undone, torn away from all we're tied to" I felt that
I love a dream in static so much, it's incredible from a vocal and technical standpoint and the lyrics are so desperate. They remind me of hpl in a way - someday I might write a post about it in detail.

Wednesday, February 8: Earthside, “Crater”
Given their relative obscurity and lack of label support, it was a bit of a wonder how Earthside managed to land Bjӧrn “Speed” Strid for a guest vocal on A Dream in Static, but somehow “Crater” was a clearer signal of the more progressive direction Strid would take Soilwork than their own previous records. For although The Ride Majestic didn’t sound exactly like this, the ebbs and flows in Earthshine’s music felt like more of a natural predecessor to Verkligheten and Övergivenheten than Soilwork’s first couple records with David Andersson as Strid’s primary musical foil. And Strid sounded completely natural in this environment, trying different vocal textures while working within his usual framework. The musicians in Earthside were adept in making the tracks on A Dream in Static fit seamlessly together while retaining their own identity on account of the very distinct attributes of the guest singers on the vocal numbers, so “Crater” didn’t sound exactly like the title track (fronted by Daniel Tompkins of Tesseract) even though both were clearly the work of the same band. It was too bad Earthside wasn’t able to gain more traction, though at least they managed to give Strid and Andersson some ideas.
