Perpetrator? or the next victim?

Tim is working on a case where a series of accidents have been happening that have all landed the victims into comas. The police don't seem suspicious of it but Tim sees it differently. They are all random people, but when looking at the photos/video footage taking during the accident. Tim has noticed a common variable.

the new barista from his usual coffee shop, Danny, is always somewhere in the background.

Now Tim has two theories.

Theory 1: Danny is the perpetrator!

Something that Tim is not a fan of because Danny is the only one that gets him his coffee order without any questions and evens adds more espresso when he asks for it.

Theory 2: Danny is going to be the next victim!

this is based on that Danny is the intended victim of whatever the heck is happening and that the victims in the coma were just caught in the crossfire. This is also not something that he wants because Danny is genuinely a pretty nice guy to talk to.

So what can Tim Drake do?

Stay by Danny's side of course!

Take his time with finishing work at the coffee shop.

Conversing with Danny whenever business was slow.

Hanging out with Danny at times.

Asking him out to dinner-wait what?

Meanwhile

Danny is in Gotham because he's helping Constantine with some evil Demon business.

The demon's been targeting certain people and Danny's job is to hold onto the people's souls until the demon is dealt with by Constantine. When that's done he'll return everybody's souls back to their body. No harm done!

And he's even making a friend with that guy who also drinks the coffee on steroids beverage he made.

Plus Constantine told the vigilantes of Gotham that he was there to help so there's no problem of him being there right?

Danny accidentally starts beef with batman over kids

So I'm a sucker for dani and dan being Danny's kids (bonus points if danny gets called mum) and both of them are chaotic

The bat kids (family all of them batman and alfred included) are chaotic as well danny learns this after freshly joining the league as the semi immortal possibly from the start of time phantom and the league are introducing him to everyone and bonding and mentioning some of the wacky how the fuck shit that batman and his kids have done

So danny mentions some of the stuff his kids have done whilst batman is passing by, batman who hasn't had a nap in the past 72 hours and the day before as bruce was dealing with margie on the pta

And he makes a comment just a tiny one about how his kids saved a group from a hostage situation

And thus the rivalry began danny and batman keep bragging to each other about their kids sometimes it's vigilante stuff sometimes it mundane danny brags about how dani is so good with animals batman brags about how his youngest volunteers at the animal shelter

Just give me batman and danny bragging about their children to each other

my favourite part about the lotr books so far is the friendship between the hobbits

Merry helped Frodo with carrying out Bilbo’s will when he was overwhelmed with hobbits collecting things

Merry knew about the ring for years (although he learned it was the One Ring specifically more recently) and kept an eye on Bilbo and Frodo, Sam collected information for all of them, Frodo’s friends noticed he was planning on leaving for good and arranged a plan for Merry and Pippin to join Frodo and Sam and Fredegar (one of my fave characters) to stay behind and make sure no one knew they were gone so that he’d have his friends with him

They refused to let Frodo go into danger alone and made arrangements so he wouldn’t have to, even though they were terrified too

To anyone else, a couple sitting together at breakfast not speaking to each other may seem odd, but for you and Kiyoomi, though, it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

“So, you’re away for a game this Friday, right?”

His response comes in the way of a slight nod, eyes narrowed in focus on the plate of food in front of him.

“When will you be home? Monday?”

He nods again, and your eyebrows crease in confusion. You open your mouth to question why he’s suddenly acting so strange, but before you can, Kiyoomi’s tilting his head in the direction of the table to your left. And then you hear it — the gossip.

“I just can’t believe she would do that! I thought she was my friend, ya know?”

Your mouth snaps shut in an instant, anxious to hear what unfolds next.

“Well,” the girl on the other side starts, clearly apprehensive, “she has liked him since high school. I thought you knew that.”

Silverware clatters down to the table. Whatever answer the first girl was expecting, it certainly wasn’t that. You and Kiyoomi share a pointed look, your mouths full of food.

“He’s my ex-fiancé. Are you serious right now?”

You have to control your face, taking a sip from your coffee mug to hide your surprise. Kiyoomi’s no better — eyes all but bulging at the new bit of information.

“I think you’re being a little unfair.”

You and Kiyoomi lock eyes in an instant, sharing looks that scream “oh shit.”

“Unfair?” The first girl is incredulous, and you can tell she’s biting back the volume in her voice. You have to strain to hear what she says next. “They started hooking up the second him and I broke up.”

Kiyoomi hides another expression behind his fist, cheeks stuffed with pancakes. His eyes widen, brows raising as he looks at you over his hand. You’re familiar enough with what you lovingly call Kiyoomi-speak to know he’s saying, “Can you believe this shit?”

Your expression mirrors his own.

You spend the rest of your meal digesting the conversation coming from the table beside you, and as you walk back to your apartment, Kiyoomi’s hand in yours, you unpack it together.

“Her ex seems like a dick.”

“He does! The friend is no better either.”

“Mm,” Kiyoomi’s brow furrows. “That friend she was eating with kind of sucks, too. It seemed like she was pulling out all of these excuses for the other girl.”

“That’s what I was gonna say! She probably knew all along.”

“Mm, probably.”

You continue to chat the whole way home, and as silly as it sounds, the idle conversation has warmth thrumming beneath your skin. It’s nice, you think as Kiyoomi delves into the theory that the poor girl was probably cheated on. To have someone who understands you, someone you can always rely on to people watch and gossip with you.
