Professor Layton themed candle !! :D
This is a tea set that I painstakingly but lovingly painted, varnished, then poured scented candle wax into and decorated.
More details under the cut :)
Here's some more pictures !
I used a random teacup and assorted plate I bought from a guy in my town. I painted it black (should've used spraypaint but I only had white), then handpainted the gold rim on the plate as well as the logos. The rim of the teacup is lined with some gold leaf I had lying around (I originally wanted to use gold leaf for the logos as well, but... it was my first time using gold leaves and I had no idea what I was doing, so I didn't want to ruin it). I used acrylics for all the paint.
I made the tophat with airdry clay; the letter and newspaper are paper (obviously), the Laytonmobile-looking thing is a scrapbooking sticker I bought from my local art store (it's actually what gave me the idea to make this in the first place). The key I just had lying around again and just had to paint it golden (I keep a lot of things around just in case I want to use them for art projects...) and for the gold chain, I sacrificed one I had from a necklace I barely wear.
As for the candle part, well, I used some white wax I had from a candle-making kit I was gifted when I was 7, as well as crayons for color, and hibiscus candle scent (flavoring?) I bought at the same time as the Laytonmobile sticker. I poured it in two layers so that the decorations wouldn't just sink to the bottom.

i still don't know how i feel about andrew choking kevin
i guess it's kind of significant for andrew's character, and his relationship with neil? it shows just how worried and afraid andrew was in that moment and that's something the other foxes and the reader definitely pick up on.
but i don't think it's handled particularly well. in fact i don't think it's handled, period. does neil pick up on what it means? despite the bruises being mentioned multiple times in the narration, neil himself doesn't seem to have any thoughts on it
we don't see kevin and andrew ever talk about it. how do they feel about it? that was most definitely andrew losing control, and he himself knows what it means even if he doesn't say it outright. but how does he feel afterwards. i know he doesn't do regret but does he feel in any particular way about it or is it just something completely insignificant to him. we don't know.
and kevin. kevin definitely knows what it means, and the narration seems to hint that he thinks andrew would do it again. he's back at andrew's side right after so it doesn't seem to cause much friction between them. but then andrew keeps choosing neil over kevin in other ways and to me that just feels like pouring salt on the wound. we don't know how kevin feels about it but even if he understood and he forgave andrew, it's still a thing that happened and i believe it should have been handled.
there's also how kevin was keeping neil's secrets which i don't think was wrong despite what andrew might think, and this happened after browning called them and they were on their way to baltimore so they would've found out anyway...
taking everything into account i just don't see what this scene does, narratively and for kevin and andrew. it happens off-screen, it doesn't change their relationship as far as we can see, and if it was supposed to change the foxes' or the readers' perspective on andreil, the baltimore hotel scene does that, and better. neil and aaron changing dorm rooms also does that, and better.

one piece of fanon I see thrown about as a casual fact about beej is that he is somehow morally opposed to cheating as a concept, and has judged and would judge people based on them doing that. most of the time I see the evidence for this being his own meltdowns over even the potential of cheating on peg, and his behaviour towards hawkeye in The More I See You.
the latter is particularly confusing to me because he does emphatically state in his conversation with hawkeye in potters office that he actively does not have a moral aversion to cheating - "I couldn't break my word to Peg. And not because God'll send me to hell without an electric fan... or because it's not the right thing to do. I just don't want to."
and one of the reasons i think he says this - and the reason I think people read some sort of judgement from bj in this scene - is that hawkeye is twitchy about it. hawkeye is probing, maybe projecting, is worried about this guy thinking badly of him because he himself doesn't feel too clean about it. he pokes and he prods, slightly skittishly and nervously.
textually bj starts this conversation, and I think hawkeye (and therefore some of the audience) read into that that he is doing so to Make a Point, but what I personally read into it - and I think the intent - is that bj has some genuine concern (and perhaps a healthy dose of interest!) because he has already had a huge dose of the backstory to this whole debacle, and like any sensible person I don't think he sees it ending well for his friend.
but by the end of it hawkeye knows he has neither censure nor celebration from bj, just a steady and even-keeled acceptance of what hawkeye accepts is 'messing up his life'. bj is just acting as a neutral good-natured sounding board, which is very much early BJ's MO. it's a carefully balanced check in from a friend, one that I fanonically read as an echo of what he says he does with Peg, where he sort of pokes until she speaks about what is on her mind. (In this reading I sort of see hawkeye as hanging about wanting to Talk on purpose, especially as objectively you think this would be Private Time for bj and peg. hawkeye, to me, seems to be Loitering.)
but as bj says, a la potter writing to mildred... that's none of his business 😉

52 “can I kiss you” (like dream world ship is Matthias/Kaz but if you don’t ship that) Kaz/Wylan or Kaz/Jes
“can I kiss you”
Prompts: [1] [2]
Hatred and respect are brothers in arms. Their tired boots tread the same path with unerring conviction, neither worth their salt if they were to bend from the rigidity that has fuelled them thus far.
Too many times, Matthias has found, it has led to nothing but crossed wires. Still, he persists, and that might just be how he finds himself here.
For all this demjin is smaller than he is, the presence of something dangerously dark sloughing off his frame keeps Matthias pinned against the barren wall of his ridiculous bedroom. Ineffably, it angers him, which is another barb-edged cousin to hate. He exhales, letting it go. Now is not the moment for anger, nor for fear.
“Let me,” Matthias says, speaking through clenched teeth. With irritating slowness and a smugly entertained look in his dark eyes, Kaz raises a single eyebrow.
“Let you what?” His voice slips out of his lying lips with saccharine slowness like a taunt.
The iron forge of his own will is all Matthias has, so he exhales through his nose and puts all his focus into not shoving the man into a wall. Kaz probably has some trick up his sleeve to slip through, should Matthias try anything.
“You said you would do this for me.”
“I say a lot of things, Helvar.” His raspy voice caresses the shell of his ear, stroking taunting fingers down the hard line of his jaw. “What do you want me to let you do?”
Matthias shuts his eyes. Humiliation, a fourth companion. He’d deny finding it pleasurable in any regard, but that would make him a liar. Every surging feeling he’s identified in his chest tonight brings satisfaction to him, somehow.
He measures out the words in his head, divorcing himself from the meaning of them — the heavy, smouldering want — and speaks.
“Let me kiss you.”
Kaz laughs. It is sharp and hateful with neither anger nor respect but plenty of mockery, and Matthias aches with it. Then his arm is being twisted round his back and his knee is being kicked, sending him to the floor with a heavy thud.
Pain explodes outward from where his knee made impact with the worn old floor. A gloved hand shoves through his hair, longer with the years and easy to pull. Matthias bites his tongue before he can cry out; denied, mortified, and hard in his trousers.
“Be polite, Helvar.”
I hate him, he thinks, but it is the flowering haze of respect starting to take root in his stomach, and he knows it.
“I will not beg,” he replies.
He’s certain that Kaz knows as well as he does that that’s a lie.

the eclipse, episode 12
(previous)
sometimes i do like to see a little wildly explicit homophobia in television ! and it does feel right to have had the school’s rules of order be this background malevolent force for the entire show, operating as a metaphor for heteronormativity and homophobia that isn’t necessarily quite made explicit, and then have it made very explicit here and now.
i'm going back and forth on how i feel about the meta element here. it does broadly work for me as a throughline in the show about the power that fiction holds but i don't totally get what they're going for now that it's so directly explicit and built off the literal characters (e.g. akk and ayan's scene at the beginning being the same dialogue as khan and thua's at the beginning of the show)
at the same time the contrast between wat talking about accepting who you are in the context of their characters vs akk still unable to quite reconcile everything within himself is compelling....
also don't really get the eleventh hour rules revision.... wouldn't she know this already? chadok leaving makes sense but honestly Eye was half expecting him to take responsibility for akk and thua's actions and get fired/resign for it. i admit it’s arguable whether that’s actually any less of a deus ex but he DOES bear partial responsibility and it would allow him to gain a bit of redemption by doing now for akk what he couldn’t for dika. but that’s just my opinion......
did make me crack up. aye folding instantly like a wet paper towel.
and also really love the way that despite being soooo annoying [affectionate] this is one of the first times — aside from episode six — that we've seen akk actively initiating affection between them without aye directly prompting him first. and aye's expression like he doesn't know quite what to do with it but certainly doesn't want it to stop.....

i was close to voting anders for the least tech savvy poll and i do think he would be the sitcom character with some sort of technology curse but i don’t think his generally luckless demeanour actually carries over to his basic skills. he’d probably be fine on a computer ultimately he’s a stem boy. also there’s a not inconsiderable chance he’s part of some cyberpunk surveillance resistance crew and paradoxically that requires a high level of knowledge. sebastian with his party girl backstory is 1000% a selfie king but would only admit that under pain of death. every so often he slips and uses DEEP twitter slang and pretends he just heard it from someone else but he’s also kind of a bad liar and easily flustered so it’s really obvious he still has twitter and his screen time is too high. varric? totally fine if not a coding wizard like my best friend merrill. if isabela is still some sort of a sailor in the modern day she would have to be good with tech and i think anyway is pretty savvy. fenris i think probably makes it to his 30s without any digital footprint at all but once he starts using tech picks it up pretty quickly.
broadening it to different companions alistair would be twitter famous it is perfect for his pithy earnest-yet-ironic humour. morrigan genuinely believes in 5G conspiracies and thinks everyone else is easier to brainwash because of their lower IQs. solas brings a typewriter to use in a coffee shop and WILL make a snide remark if you, a complete stranger sitting beside him, do the crossword on your phone. leliana obviously runs an instagram where she takes pretty suggestive selfies in a nun’s habit and insists she is genuinely a nun but it turns out she’s part of some obscure sect that practices free love and it makes the internet invested in catholic heresies for a day. zevran has 17 burner phones. sera is a skilled hacker but has never bothered to figure out how email actually works. cassandra emails like she is texting whereas cullen texts like he is emailing. josie has the excel skills of someone who has made a pact with the devil. vivienne is a politician so her twitter is run by an unpaid intern but she has a kind of banging insta and she always manages to actually use memes correctly so people see her as relatable
