Lady Amalthea (aka The Last Unicorn from ‘The Last Unicorn’). I wanted her to look very soft and sort of… whimsically? Vintage styled. So we are kind of back in cottagecore but not really. This is one of the few modern redesigns that was based more on vibes than reference photos so if you love this dress it might have to be custom made ( * v *). Modern Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

Now this one is a little strange because Aurora’s “peasant” outfit is already suuuuuper modern. I'm picturing Aurora as either a Art major or a Literature major. Either way loose golden curls and a black form fitting sweater with some items that are either thrifted or vintage inspired.

Modern Belle

I'll be honest I'm pretty tired and disheartened at the moment. Still no job on the horizon, I appreciate every like and warm comment on my art on social media but wow am I tired of being stressed. So to cheer myself off and take a little bit more pressure off myself I decided to visit the characters who inspired me to keep all this running for over two years. The Heroines who got this whole ball rolling. But this time (so I do less research and can recharge a little) in modern clothing!!

For Belle I decided to lean into her book-obsession and keep her in the realm of a vintage-inspired "dark" academia fashion. Her long skirt, collared shirt, and most importantly her ribbed pullover/knit sweater with puffy sleeves. All in shades of off-gold. Which you tubers do you think she watches?

Modern Tiana

Of course we had to take a modern business woman approach to Tiana's redesign. This woman is a successful entrepreneur and a princess. I kept her color palette inspired by her bayou princess dress and hid little nods to her dress flowers in her hoop earrings.

Maleficent

It’s been a long time coming but it feels so good to finally redesign these iconic villains! Maleficent was a little bit of a challenge… and yet very little changed. And I know, I know, I didn’t keep her horns…. But I was really struggling to draw the pointy medieval headdresses so I went with this one instead. There are historically inspired costumers that have come before me for Maleficent in a houppeland so the content is out there if you're interested!

Yunjin

(Aka I was up until nearly 2am one day because that’s how focusing on something ridiculous works sometimes)

It is well known that Yunjin is an Opera star, and in her performance cutscene a real Chinese Opera singer sings her part, which is super cool. Some of her fighting abilities are also inspired by costumes from the Beijing Opera so... of course.... I couldn't help myself. I almost went for the flag-costume design but when comparing the amount of detail and busy-ness of my options... I went with this one. It was already a tall order. However it is not an "accurate" costume to any particular play. It is a combination of real Opera costumes and Yunjin's game design. For example the cut of the shoulder piece, her spear, the overall color palette and the mid-skirt are directly inspired by her in-game design. It took a lot of work but good golly am I proud of it.

Modern Snow White

This one was really fun to draw. I wanted to make sure it was feminine and soft while also being modern and adorable. Using a variation of her color palette brought me much joy. And I ended up keeping her yellow 'hat' from my previous historical redesign of her. ;D

Modern Rapunzel Redesign

I decided early on that Rapunzel is an art student all the way. paint and art supplies are the accessory. Her earrings are handmade to look like mini tubes of paint. Her hair has the popular space buns plus braids with purple scrunchies... every thing a 90s inspired art student could dream of XD.

Modern Princess Anna!

Anna is one of the Disney ladies I haven't actually redesigned for yet. And this modern redesign was a challenge. I wanted to have a winter look for both Frozen sisters but for them to have opposite approaches to winter temperatures. Where Elsa has on leotard and icy sparkles, Anna has on knit layers, snow coat, thermal leggings, mittens and snow boots.

Modern Elsa!

A figure skater nicknamed “the Snow Queen” 🤣🤣🤣. It had to be sparkly, it had to be ice related and it couldn't be a thick fluffy coat. The ice might be frozen but she couldn't be wearing an outfit for -20, so ice skater was the clear and hilarious choice.
