Hopper accidentally becomes the biggest ally in Hawkins out of hatred for Mike Wheeler. El wants to date Max? Perfect, Mike is terrified of Max. El wants to date Max and Lucas? Even better, more people to keep Mike away. Will comes out to Joyce and Hop? Hopper is immediately studying up on gay culture and flagging so he can find him a Hop ApprovedTM boyfriend. He sees that nice boy Gareth cuff his jeans one time and starts inviting him to family dinner. Mike seems annoyed that Steve is spending more time with Munson? A pamphlet titled “Accepting your Bisexuality” finds its way into Steve’s jacket pocket. Hopper has never seen Mike as furious as the day Steve and Munson arrive at dinner holding hands. It’s a good day. Hopper isn’t sure how Nancy dating the Buckley girl will annoy Mike, but he’s willing to give it a shot.

It's kinda sad that the moment El moved out of Hawkins (and away from Max) she went back to wearing clothes that weren't her; like the flannels and all.

Somehow this shows that she only felt comfortable and safe to be herself with Max. Like, they were the happiest here.

I mean, the El we saw in season 3, when she was discovering what she really liked, she wouldn't have worn this.

I mean, Joyce, Will and Jonathan are great and take good care of her, they are her family now, but still, they don't understand her like Max.

Well, maybe Will and Jonathan do, in parts, but since Loonie left them, they didn't have to hide who they are because Joyce loves and accepts them just the way they are and she might not be perfect, but she loves them with everything she is.

El never had that. She never had a loving, somehow stable home. Yeah, Hopper was great and he took care of her, he protected her and he definitely loves her, but that doesn't erase all the pain, the trauma, all the abuse she experienced in that lab. And the only person who gets that, is Max because her life was as fucked up as El.

Max never had a stable life, her dad didn't really care about her, Susan thinks that they need a man to take care of them and puts Max safety in jeopardy because of it by bringing Neil and Billy into their lives, and then losing everything after Billy's death. Neil simply kicked them out of the house with nothing to support themselves. Probably not even their clothes because it was bought with his money.

So, Max starts wearing shirts too big for her (not that it doesn't look good on her, but it's not really her style, compared to season 2 and specially season 3), her hair is shorter, always in a loose ponytail.

and her smile is gone, just like the sparkle in her eyes. and I know this is directly related to her depression and it hurts to see her going through this. Alone.

She lost everything; her best friend, the home, her mom is working two jobs just so they can have the minimum, and not to mention her mom is also drinking so she's on her own. And on top of that she needs to deal with the guilt she feels for Billy's death and at the same time for feeling he deserved what happened.

And we know that in this show, even clothes there's a lot of meanings. It's not really any theory or anything, it's just kind of a character analysis. Sort of. Anyway.

El:

• She loves it when people call her Jane. It makes her feel like a real person.

• She likes to roller skate but she can't skateboard. Poor girl, she keeps trying to do a kick flip. Max doesn't even know how to do a kick flip.

• She eventually got burnt out on Eggos, but never the syrup.

• She doesn't have great social skills and she talks a bit like Starfire so she doesn't talk much to people she doesn't care alot about. But when Max is over, Hopper and Joyce have to wear ear plugs.

• Total giggle box. Can't stop, won't stop.

Max:

• Kinda like Billy she has a spunkiness that can sometimes come off as mean, sometimes she'll take a playful insult too far and have to apologize. Which she will do.

• She doesn't like her orange hair. She prefers Els dark curls.

• Max sees Steve as her dad. She asks him for advice on the reg which nobody really seems to know. It's not like she's hiding it, she just doesn't go shouting it from rooftops. "He yourself kid, but sometimes dial "yourself" back a little." He once said to her.

• She smokes. She's not a big drinker but I imagine she's picking up cigarettes people left on the sidewalk for later and lightning them up for herself.

As a couple:

• "Like a bad scream."

"What's a good scream."

"Well Max said-"

"-Doesnt Matter!!"

(Max gave El "the talk".)

• Max is top.

• They love to sing and dance together, any song really but mainly Madonna and Kate Bush.

• Max is obsessed with using her powers to lock their door, she thinks it's so sexy saying, "Crap, we didnt lock the door." And hearing it click from across the room.

• El doesn't like to drive. She doesn't like cars much either. So she keeps insisting Max and her get a tandem bike. Which Max refuses. (It's in the garage as a Christmas gift.)

Literally the only ship actually named next to Jopper. And all they/some care about is Byler (Rovicki and Jopper is imo only there to confirm them. But they deliberately ignore ElMax. Is this truly about representation to them..???)

imagine max finally awake and recovering in the hospital, and el, hugging her so tight, face in her neck, and talking into her ear saying “i’m here max. i’m real. i’m right here. can you hear me?”. max is not adjusting well to losing her sight, but she can feel when other people touch her a lot better now. “i can hear you, el” she says back to her. el stays there, holding her, for hours sometimes. they talk like that. because el wants max to know that she is right there, even if she can’t see it, so she lets her feel her presence. max can feel that she has company, not just hear it.

regarding time .

tomorrow is the first day of elmax week, so let’s establish a few things here. because of timezones, it’s pretty tricky to figure out when a day will actually start. me and el talked this through, and we decided for a specific time of the day where we’ll start reblogging everything and adding it to our collections. so, officially, elmax week will start in 11 a.m CEST, august the 28th, monday.

keep in mind, of course, you can submit your fanworks whenever august the 28th starts in your timezone, but we’ll officially recognize it at that time we have set. similarly, day two will start in 11 a.m CEST on the tuesday and so forth. the submissions for the previous day will close exactly in 10:59 a.m

for fanfiction.

below is a template you can use to submit your fics to elmax week. delete everything in the brackets, you don’t have to follow this exactly but this will be helpful for me and el to organize everything.

What I hate most about fandom wars/ship wars is that so many try to bring down the other ship to sail theirs with so much negativity and pettiness. Let people ship what they wanna ship as long as it’s not wrong or affects you and stop bringing them/their ship down.. like why does it bother you so much? if you’re content with your ship then just post stuff about it without being hurtful or listing reasons why the pairing you don’t like aren’t good or why your ship is better than them, therefore belittling the moments of the pairing that the shippers cherish just to compare them when we. Don’t. Care. let people be.
