hello fellow formula one fans. i think it's important for me to come on here and share that i have, in fact, been irreparably let down by an f1 team. i am extremely disappointed with the actions of expensify apx gp f1 team this weekend. their decision to prioritize sonny over joshua this weekend after joshua qualified two positions higher than sonny IN EQUAL MACHINERY shows how little they respect him as a driver and team member. especially since it was joshua's home race as well! severely disappointed with this outcome. do better, @/apxgp.

so the city of ember movie accidentally made an ethnostate, kind of

the city of ember movie is bad for lots of reasons but one of the biggest reasons in hindsight (revisiting it as an adult who is even marginally aware of the existence of racism and white supremacy) is that 99.9% of the cast of this "planned human settlement after the end of the world, meant as essentially a population ark" movie is fucking white. we counted two who weren't. in the whole movie. one of them is an extra with no lines

when the camera panned up to the "FOR THE GOOD OF ALL MANKIND" sign, I was like "for the good of white people, you mean?"

"the people who are trying to save humanity have a Very Narrow definition of who counts as humanity" is something I'd be down to see properly explored and challenged in fiction, ideally by a nonwhite author, but having it as accidental subtext in a movie that was not meant to be thought about that deeply is. hm. not surprising, and not even particularly disappointing as this movie is god awful in every other respect as well. it's just like, "fucking really?"

eta: the first colonists in the city were CANONICALLY organized into multiethnic family groups as per the message at the end of the first book so the weird whitewashing in the movie can die in a fire, thanks

yay one of my neighbor's fifteen loose dogs bit me, animal services won't do anything, and despite cops constantly and i do mean constantly driving up and down my street because of a stupid highway that goes right through my neighborhood not one of them has done anything about it! which means if i want to go on a walk i have to cross two lanes of a busy road to get to another street just to avoid dog bite 2: this time i'm taking the leg off because no one will do anything about the fifteen loose dogs! 🥴
