Updated Emergency Cleaning List!

As thanks for the warm (and, at times, hilarious) welcome back, here's an updated, significantly less wordy version of my Emergency Cleaning list. The original will be a decade old in a few months, if you can believe it!

You may need to modify or adjust the steps on this list based on your own situation — it's meant as a general guideline for those who need a little help pushing past the "Where the hell am I supposed to start?" feeling. This is also not meant to be a comprehensive "How to clean your house properly and maintain it forever" guide. It's for those moments when you have to quickly half-ass it because someone is going to be in your space soon and it's a disaster. If you can close some doors and cut some steps from the list, even better. Definitely do that.

I want my home livable Again

How did things get this bad?

This is a five year long depression mess. I bought a house with a couple of friends several years ago. I was the ONLY one cleaning, which was annoying but manageable. And then my ESA got cancer and eventually passed away.

After that, I struggled with taking care of myself. I became overwhelmed with cleaning up after everyone and stopped cleaning common areas. The messier it got, the more depressed and overwhelmed I got. I've spoken with my roommates about cleaning up after themselves and their pets, they said they would but never did. The kitchen became unusable and I ate fast food almost exclusively for about a year.

I moved everything into my bedroom. My room slowly became as bad as the rest of the house.

I got a mini fridge, tabletop oven, my own dishes, and a single tabletop burner so I could cook in my room and stop eating so much fast food. It helped me feel like I had more control over my life and cooking made me feel a little bit better.

I also make art, all my hobbies are in this room. It's an overwhelming amount of stuff here. I have more clothes than anyone would ever need to own. I also have way too many books.

I impulse buy things when I get stressed. It's a bad coping mechanism that I'm working on fixing because it just adds to the clutter.

Two years ago I met my partner and we've been living in an apartment together. I'm in a better place mentally now but he lost his job recently (he has a new job but it pays half as much as the old one) so we're going to move into my house once our lease is up because I can't afford rent AND the mortgage.

He's offered to help me clean but I'm too embarassed to let him see this. I want to get my room decluttered and cleaned before I get his help with the rest of the house.

I'm hoping to remodel the house eventually so I can separate our space from my roommates' living space.

But for now I'm documenting my cleaning journey. I feel like this blog will help me and others feel less alone in the struggle of recovering from hoarding

My gas meter will be replaced tomorrow. It's in my corner of doom and that means two rounds of emergency cleaning (one today, one tomorrow)!

Also, I did no longer procrastinate tidying the bedroom, so today I - folded and put all clean clothes away (mostly leftovers from the trip to the laundromat this week) - handwashed some woolen things - turned the mattress and changed the sheets - collected at least 6 hair ties from the floor - vacuumed part of the bedroom (vanquished dust bunnies!) - put some things into the bag that needs to be moved into the basement - moved some books and the travel bag that I had parked in the hallway - put my shoes into the shoe rack - washed the dishes, dried and put them away - took the trash out and the paper to the recycling bin

Tomorrow I will move the boxes that I had parked in the hallway into the bedroom and then I’ll try to vacuum the hallway. Fortunately the small shelf in the corner of doom has wheels and can be moved. I just need to move everything in front of it, too.

love when men cry about body hair bc "it's hygiene" and yet 15% of cis men leave the bathroom without washing their hands at all and an additional 35% only just wet their hands without using soap. that is nearly half of all men. that means statistically you have probably shaken hands with or been in direct contact with one of these people.

love when men say that women "only want money" when it turns out that even in equal-earning homes, women are actually adding caregiver burdens and housework from previous years, whereas men have been expanding leisure time and hobbies. in equal-earning households, men spend an average of 3.5 hours extra in leisure time per week, which is 182 hours per year - a little over a week of paid vacation time that the other partner does not receive. kinda sounds like he wants her money.

love that men have decided women are frail and weak and annoying when we scream in surprise but it turns out it's actually women who are more reliable in an emergency because men need to be convinced to actually take action and respond to the threat. like, actually, for-real: men experience such a strong sense of pride about their pre-supposed abilities that it gets them and their families killed. they are so used to dismissing women that it literally kills them.

love it. told my father this and he said there's lies, damned lies, and statistics. a year ago i tried to get him to evacuate the house during a flash flood. he ignored me and got injured. he has told me, laughing, that he never washes his hands. he has said in the last week that women are just happier when we're cooking or cleaning.

maybe i'm overly nostalgic. but it didn't used to feel so fucking bleak. it used to feel like at least a little shameful to consider women to be sheep. it just feels like the earth is round and we are still having conversations about it being flat - except these conversations are about the most obvious forms of patriarchy. like, we know about this stuff. we've known since well before the 50's.

recently andrew tate tried to justify cheating on his partner as being the "male prerogative." i don't know what the prerogative for the rest of us would be. just sitting at home, watching the slow erosion of our humanity.

Vlad has finally gotten Daniel as a son! It’s wonderful, it’s great, it’s… actually really disheartening in how it happened. Maddie and Jack and Jazz are dead. He knows he said he wished for Jack’s death, but now that it’s happened he just feels… empty. 

Empty in a way reflected by Danny, a deep echoing void gnawing from their very cores, made worse the longer they stay in Amity. In a place where the more metaphorical ghosts wander seemingly everywhere. 

He always wanted a family Danny as a son, but now he’s uncertain as to what to do. Therapy and counseling is out of the question, not with the entire Spectra situation, nor with the fact that they aren’t exactly normal people. It’s not like they can ever talk about the soul-rending agony of dying, and then somehow not, going against the laws of reality itself. 

So he moves them, gets into contact with Ellie along the way. Another mistake he made that nearly worsens the cracks in his very Core whenever he thinks of it. They can’t go to Wisconsin- too many memories there as well, so they need to settle somewhere, anywhere else. 

Which is how he ended up purchasing a semi-old manor in Gotham, previously owned by… someone, the Dragons, Dreks, Drinks, something. It’s hard to remember things when he’s pushing all his energy to care for the younger halfas in the way he should have from the very beginning. 

It’ll take a while, but hopefully… Hopefully he can make everything alright. No more heroing or villianing, just… figuring out how to be a better person, if not for himself or the kids then for his late friends.

I've been protesting since i was two. I have memorised the chants, the speeches, the songs, the same arguments over and over and *over* again. I have signed over 500 petitions, i have attended over 150 marches, I have presented over 10 speeches personally. I don't remember when I learned about climate change because i always knew, so why didn't others?

I remember asking my Mother when i was around eight where she first learnt about it. When she was in year 8, back in 89-90. She said to me "I remember my teacher explaining it to us and thinking 'why isn't anyone doing anything'" She told me it's not that we don't have the answers, its we don't have the materials.

Now I know that is code for "the government is refusing to fund this" or "The government doesn't believe this is an issue" ect ect. Again and again, a new issue that needs to be solved or address or fixed before "we can focus on climate change"

Let me tell you ***You can not fight every battle*** But I try to. This latest "stunt" [Aliens aren't real] by the USA is yet another distraction from the biggest issue, The Atlantic ocean is facing a collapse.

Due to amount of cold water coming from the melted Greenland Ice sheets, It will cause the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) to collapse and shut down.

The last time this happened was around 15,000-14,500 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. It lead to a collapse of weather cycles, temperatures plunge and spike, ecosystems to collaspe.

If it collapses, La Niña could become the norm for Australia.

what if Triplets Dan, Danny, and Ellie?

like, people like to make at least Dan and Danny twins, but why not all three?? i never see that happen.

here's what i'm thinking. Reveal Gone Good, but Danny now has to tell his parents about the OTHER TWO biggest secrets he's kept from them; Dan and Ellie. he's a little hesitant cause this is not Phantom Planet compliant so they don't know about Vlad.

Dan's still in his thermos timeout thinking about what he's done and Ellie is...somewhere.

so, he tells them about his clone and his future self. this includes what Vlad has done to him. does it include who did this? maybe, i don't know. dealer's choice. anyways, the Fenton parents want to meet their new kids.

Team Phantom gets in touch with Ellie to get to FentonWorks as soon as possible while Danny introduces them to Dan.

it..might not go as planned, might end up fine, that's also dealer's choice. but! in the end, they somehow redeem Dan. Ellie arrives and the duo are welcomed into the family!

but, there are two problems now.

1) how do they explain away their new children?

and 2) Dan is full ghost (and adult-sized, i'm not sure the parents are old enough for a kid his age) and Ellie is an unstable clone - both half Vlad, and really not wanting to be half Vlad.

their solution to the second problem? make new bodies for them! they made two fully stable Halfa clone bodies from Danny, had Ellie and Dan fuse their cores inside these clones near the end of making them, and waited for them to pop out of the tubes at the same age as Danny! this might take some help from Clockwork and Danny to pull off without more melting clones..

anyways! now, they have three Halfa children. all they have to do at this point is find a way to explain the sudden appearance of TWO MORE KIDS!

their solution for THAT problem? hack into the database and change the medical files so it showed that THREE kids were birthed instead of one; Danail Jack, Daniel Jackson, and Dannielle Jacklyn Fenton. Dan, Danny, and Ellie.

but the parents take it SO MUCH FURTHER. they bribe the local schools and hospitals, they make fake receipts of things bought for them and fake records of government child support, and they even photoshop younger versions of Ellie and Dan into the family photos to make it legit. heck, they might have even gone back in time via Clockwork to add the birth certificates! they're THAT committed!

so, we got a new family of six gaslighting, gatekeeping, and girlbossing their way into legitimacy.

"What do you mean we only had two kids this entire time? Look at these records! Look at how similar they are to their triplet brother! The evidence says otherwise!"

"Listen, if you just play along and say nothing contrary to anybody who asks, we'll stop ghost hunting or driving for one month every time you do so. Sound good? We'll even put in some money to sweeten the deal."

"If we never had these children before, then why do we have memories of Dan viciously beating up Danny and Ellie's bullies at school?"

that sort of thing.

they're COMMITTED. it's INSANE. the town is going CRAZY.

where did these kids come from?? did we seriously forget about two teen kids for sixteen years??

now, i'm putting this under DCxDP, cause of just ONE little detail. Ellie's obsession involves moving, right?

well, what if the Fenton family becomes a wandering family of crime-fighters/mad scientists with an interest in the occult?

what if they get on the JL's radar because of one too many supernatural cases being solved by the Fentons in the JL's local cities?

they're at Gotham? suddenly, it feels as if the air is lighter and that it's not as drenched in evil and insanity as before. what did they do? fought the curses in the local Lazurus Pit like someone wrestling a pig in their mudpen.

they're in Metropolis? Lex woke up one day to find his entire stash of Kryptonite was missing with no trace. what did they do? the triplets broke in after sensing the gems and ate them like candy, their natural ghostliness shorting out the security feed as they do so.

they're in D.C.? all of the ghost relics in the local museums have been stolen with only a note saying, "Sorry for the disturbance! These were too dangerous for the living, so we put them somewhere safe! Don't worry! :)" left behind. what did they do? they took them and chucked them into the ghost portal where some allies on that side put them in safe places.

and that's all i got.

TL,DR; Fenton family goes full mad scientist in order to welcome Dan and Ellie into the family before packing up and wandering the states, effectively gaining the JL's attention with their suspicious and crazy appearances.

(i hope i didn't accidentally steal this idea from another. if i did, i'm sorry. feel free to smack me or something if that's the case.)

I cleaned up her design and now I can post her properly!! Meet Clover! (She/They) Solo operating member of the Asteria Emergency and Rescue agency and a user of Wind/Air Magic. Clover is a lone wolf... um.. otter in her field and works out in rural areas and the wild. Seeing as most A.E.R members tend to focus themselves in the city areas, smaller groups are sent out into lower population areas too not spread workers so thin, which is where Clover comes in. Clover is a carefree and somewhat silly woman, hardly anything will ever bother her and she tends to be great with keeping the mood relatively light in treacherous situations, often using her magic in parlor tricks to do so. With a near-perfect sense of direction too, she's great at guiding those who get lost in the deeper wilds back to safety (No small feat considering Mystery Dungeons very much exist in this setting) She's also very adept with her usage of her magic, creating clouds beneath her feet for steps in both ascent or descent, creating air pockets underwater or even going so far as to create big cloud beds for safe landing points from heights.

Last week the annual maintenance of the gas boiler was announced for today.

So, very short emergency cleaning: yesterday I took the trash out and the recycling, washed and dried the dishes so the sink was free, freed the stove top, carried my bags into the bedroom, moved some things into the corner of doom in the hallway and hid the corner behind the blanket I use as a curtain.

I didn't have the spoons for more. But the kitchen and the way into the kitchen was free.

Today my lower back hurts a lot because I had to get up really early and slept restless. Also my mom is still not over the inflammation, needs another round of antibiotics and won't be able to go home this week.
