Prompt: Promise you’ll write

“Alright: I have to go now,” Miyana said, looking up at her daughter. From her perch on the top bunk, Emilia looked so small and scared. It was her first summer away at camp, and Mia was regretting it already. 

“What if I have a bad dream?” Emi asks her.

“Then tell your counselor, she’ll help you.” The mom stood on tiptoe and kissed her baby’s cheek. “You are going to just fine,” she insists. “And Jace is right over there, she’ll look after you,” Mia says, reminding the girl that her older sister was three cabins over.

“Will you write to me? you won’t forget about me?”

“Forget about you? How could I? I’m going to miss you so much, you have no idea. This summer is not going to be the same with you and Jace gone. Abba and I will write you so many letters, I promise.”

“Okay.”

“Okay. I love you,” Miyana says with another kiss. 

“I love you, Ima,” Emilia says, leaning over the railing to hug her mom one last time. 

“Whoa! You’re gonna fall!” Mia says with a laugh, pushing her daughter back onto the bed. 

With one final wave, she turns and leaves the cabin, meeting her husband on the dirt path where he’d come from getting their older daughter settled. 

“How is she?” Byron asks.

“She’ll be okay,” Mia nods, more for her benefit than her daughter’s. She takes his hand and squeezes. 

“Of course she will,” Byron agrees. “She’s going to be having too much fun to miss us. You’ll see. When we come at the end of the month, she’ll be begging us to let her stay longer.”

They follow the flow of parents back to the parking lot and drive back down the long driveway out of camp. 

The next day at lunch, Emilia squeals with glee when her name is called to pick up mail. She excitedly shows off the postcard to all her friends, and reads it aloud of all to hear. 

Emi, Happy first full day of camp! I can’t wait to hear about all the things you do! Have fun! Love, Abba

Emilia Brey. Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos.

This is a kitbashed model I've been planning and slowly accumulating parts to build for almost a year. Pretty happy with how she turned out.

As a student at the Schola Progenium, she was selected to become a Novitiate for the Sisters of Battle. The angelic Seraphim in particular caught her eye, and she wished to prove herself to be worthy of such an honor. She would not get the chance however.

While on route back from a training mission, their shuttle was attacked by Drukhari raiders. The elves slaughtered many, including their Superior, and took the rest captive. Emilia stepped into a leadership role and kept the faith of the survivors strong. She began to hatch a plan to seized control of the alien ship and get back to safety. The Dark Elves had entered back into real space to target another ship, and that was when Emilia and the few other Novitiates struck. While only managing to subdue one of the xenos together, they caused enough of a distraction from the fight that they couldn't focus on the fighting happening both within and outside their vessel. The Drukhari did not last long once boarding parties of Imperial guardsmen were sent over. There, they found the Novitiates and brought them back to meet with their commander, Lord Inquisitor Antonius Treth. Antonius was surprised by the Novitiates for surviving a Drukhari raid, and especially with Emilia and her tenacity and unwillingness to lose faith in the Emperor. He took her under his wing, training her to become an Inquistor.

After becoming an Inquisitor in her own right, Emilia Brey took command of a Deathwatch Watch Fortress. While she reveres the God-Emperor, she finds his creations, the Space Marines to be nothing more than a blunt tool. Something to use with little care for it's maintenance. She also gained the allegiance of a Mission of Battle Sisters from the Order of the Sacred Rose. A force that she is much more cautious with sending into danger when compared to the Deathwatch, while also trusting them far more with high priority missions.

Emilia Brey had a few decades of purging Xenos scum under her belt when Antonius reached out to her and instructed her to escort the Archmagos Invictorix to a planet infested with orks where reports of an STC had arrived from. With the help of the Adeptus Mechanicus, they kept the green tide at bay while searching.

Once they brought the STC on board, it all seemed normal until they attempted Warp travel. The STC began almost screaming, the ship systems were going back and forth and their readings. Eventually, the STC disappeared with a loud pop and their ships blinked back into real space. But their chronometers indicated they were now hundreds of years from when they were. Cadia had fallen. The Great Rift had torn the galaxy apart. They had arrived to see the galaxy even more war-torn and struggling to survive.

Once Emilia had a chance to get caught up on the events thst had played out while they were in the Warp, she decided to try and find a way through the Rift and to the Imperial Worlds that have been cut off from the Emperor's guiding light. That is where she is now, skirting the edges of the Great Rift. Searching for a secure path through and purging any xebos or heretics she encounters along the way.

IWTV S2 Ep1 Musings - Dreams, Nightmares, and Faith

Wow. 😍 I love the new title card, with the bomber jets & explosions over upside-down...Paris? Romania? IDGAF--it's cool! I am SO glad AMC took us through war-torn Europe!

Something I found so interesting was the question of whether vampires dream or not.

(Armand stfu omg, him & Les both calling Claudia Infant Death 😅)

In the books, AR's vamps go into deathlike sleep--they're not really conscious, don't get woken up by much unless THEY'RE ready to wake up, and don't dream.

Vamps are like the dead, but UNdead--they're DAMNED. The damned don't get to wish for rainbows when they dwell in darkness. They die with their heartaches and grief, and spread it to others as harbingers of death.

In WWII Europe, societal vampires (Nazis, Soviets, etc) and actual vampires coexist, each preying on the innocent & vulnerable. Louis & Claudia literally tear through the battlefields and waypoints. I was wrong about them eating the dead/blown up body parts--they were feeding on dying soldiers, not ones already dead, but TBH at this point I don't know which is worse?

You feel sorry for Darciana and her revenant "child," sure, but there's also Morgan & Emilia--and what about everyone in that bunker (all those old women & kids), who'll probably starve now that their sole hunter/trapper can't get food for them anymore? Just so these serial killing vamps can eat!?!

Louis thinks "the blood is bad here" cuz they're drinking "misery and hopelessness" in war survivors & POWs etc; but really the misery & hopelessness is IN THEM. LOUIS is miserable (without Lestat). CLAUDIA feels hopeless (with Louis/her own companion). THEY (as vamps) bring misery wherever they go, internally & externally.

You're the walking DEAD, Louis. :( You will ALWAYS be cold. U_U

It's bad EVERYWHERE--love & community is what keeps people going--

--even in the middle of what seems like an apocalypse--be it WWII, or the "flying vampire apocalypse/Great Conversion." Even in a hellish place like the Theatre and the Children of Satan/Darkness. We all need/want a HOME.

Louis & Claudia have been stuck in a figurative nightmare, walking through the valley of the shadow of death along the Devil's Road. But poor AMC!Claudia has actual nightmares. 😭

She tells herself (through her diaries) that she doesn't dream, denying the suffering she goes through, trying to stay strong and not give her trauma power.

The tabula rasa of "infants" and child-like innocence that Armand refers to is just The Void for her. By avoiding her troubles, she's probably giving more power to the things that scare her the most.

AMC KNOWS what they're doing! Claudia's in denial too, and DreamStat's calling them BOTH out on it--but like Delainey said: unlike Louis, Claudia doesn't need a hallucination version of Les to tell her what she already knows--he's in her; he's her father--moreso than Louis, who only ever gets called "Daddy" now when they need to fake it! (Or is it REALLY fake for her? When she gets hurt, she yells for Daddy Lou's attention....)

There's her behavior with Louis', and her nightmares, compared to DreamStat. Cuz Louis' not asleep--he's wide awake, but being awake for him is like living in a nightmare with his eyes wide open. Louis said his own dreams were "erratic and often," but which ones is he even talking about, REALLY? His actual dreams? Or DreamStat; the figment of his imagination he admitted to "inviting" inside his head?

The Disney song goes "Have faith in your dreams and someday...the dreams that you wish will come true." For Louis his dream is obvs Lestat, and obvs by PLatRoA and Blood Communion Looustat's dream finally comes true. But for Claudia her dream is companionship, but also knowledge. She wants/demands answers.

(Only for us to find out 2 books later that all the legends really ARE true!)

Louis's having a crisis of faith--he is SCARED of his dreams, and what it says about himself, and has accepted his damnation with fatalistic & willfully blind cynicism--just like Armand does with the Childrren of Darkness/Satan, he's slowly losing his religion/faith in God (read: their "dead" exes: Lestat & Marius), while doubling down on the idea that they are damned and that all that exists is Hell/Damnation/Satan/etc.

He'd rather believe that baboons are roaming Europe than face another vampire who might reveal more about him than he's ready to accept.

He talks down to Claudia just like Lestat did; and constantly crushes her dreams by being a wet blanket. He gives her NOTHING positive or affirmative to look forward to.

Daciana's suicide is a wake-up call: she IS a good vampire (reltively speaking, ofc). She has dreams and wishes and loving feelings, too. She's visibly in emotional turmoil & pain, which Louis can relate to; acknowledging her as human, and finally looking forward to the future Claudia wants for all of them: companions sharing stories & knowledge & love; "we're a family?"

Louis COULD'VE followed Daciana into hopeless misery, but luckily he DOES have Claudia; them helping e/o to stay out of the fire.

And as sick as it is, Lou also has Lestat, and the comfort of knowing that no matter how bad he acts/gets, he's still alive.

There's still that glimmer of HOPE: "a spark in the dark."

As an aside:

Romania as the "ancestral home" of vampires is hilarious. Claudia's desperate to find out the truth--and she's close, for sure, as there are obviously vamps crawling all over Europe--but my heart just aches thinking about how mind blown Claudia would be if she found out that the REAL ancestral home of AR's vampires was Egypt.

Cinematic poetry, putting AR in the same frames where Louis talks about Dracula--only to drag vampire superstitions a few minutes in, as Louis and Claudia bicker over garlic & crucifixes. XD

Emilia Clarke (as Daenerys Targaryen)

In the first season of "Game of Thrones," Emilia Clarke takes on the iconic role of Daenerys Targaryen, a character who quickly becomes one of the series' central figures. A Tumblr follower sent a note to me, expressing their desire to share all the love in their heart, but the frustration of what seems to be limits in their situation.

I'm sharing my reply, below - it might be relevant for someone else.

If it's possible for you, perhaps you could meet a lovely person in town. We all want love in our lives. You will certainly find it. Have trust that person's out there wanting the same."

I started to think about the film Last Christmas. Emilia Clarke's character, Kate, is making some wrong decisions in her quest to find love. She views her life as a mess, and her decisions are adding to it. It's only until she's shown that she can find love through other pathways, does she find peace, acceptance and what will be a happier more fulfilling chapter in her life. The final scene in the film is of her writing in her journal - happy, healthy, positive and peaceful.

There are so many times in life when we've all felt the frustration of being single.

I've said it before and will again:

"Trust the process. Life is merely shaping you and in doing so, adding something incredible to you. Have faith. Life will open a gift for you."

That famous adage still holds true.

When one door closes, another will open.

Trust. Hope. Faith.

Here's the most important part:

Reach for what you desire to help that door to open. Keep reaching until it does.

The fanbase is scaring me, the redesigns brought up some weird people that are REALLY passionate about Liliana being half naked

My problem is with the amount of people upset with this, like i knew we had a bunch of pedos around because of the way tappei writes the girls, but damn i didnt think there were this many of them 💀

yes ive heard about that....... im answering your ask late oops haah but i hope the situations a Bit better..... the toxic parts of this fandom give me a headache but my usual motto is to stay off twitter, touch grass, ignore people, and then hold onto my own viewpoints unless proven wrong alsjdflsdj but like. yeah this fandom is a bit tough to stay in when it comes to certain circles (for example the amount of people low quality shitposting / ranting about the fandom or whatever on rezero ao3 atm in the past days/weeks is. mm. interesting). not my first time being in larger fandoms that make you sometimes feel like youre fighting in the trenches (you could name off a few big fandoms notorious for being toxic that date back to like 2016 and odds are ive been in a couple lajdlf) but yeah seeing people complain about liliana and capella's designs and then overly fixate on emilia's boobs when these three characters have more to bring to the table than just that and theres lots and lots of good things to say about the s3 trailer and their designs..... mm. yeah. im squinting hard at a few of the things ive heard on that. but anyway!!

like the new designs are an Improvement. In General. like ok, as a boob haver myself ("boob haver" is the funniest phrase to me alsdjfls but it is true nonetheless, i am one) i do not give a shit about emilias larger boobs like ok?? her boobs are bigger?? she is still my fav ever and sometimes it just happens when youre still a growing teen/young adult and emilias back to her more revealing main outfit when she wore a different outfit in s2 so the difference in chest size is really not that much. but liliana and capella? those are Improved designs. i think ive talked abt the treatment of underage characters / characters who appear underage on my blog before (and i definitely couldve worded myself better then but i stand behind the fact that some of the stuff otsuka and tappei do regarding this in rezero is just Unnecessary).

could designs like emilia's still be improved on in other ways? yeah 100%, just in the sense that there could probably be changed a bit to fit her slightly more timid and soft spoken personality. or you could take different directions on it in general if you wanted. ive seen some great redesigns of her main outfit!! though her main outfit in of itself is pretty nice to look at imo and its iconic and well-known for a reason. im of the personal opinion that i wish it was a little less revealing in the same vein that her s2 main outfit was (i like that outfit a lot!!) but its still a really solid design overall.

i had some faith after seeing the anime designers fix up typhoon's original design to be More Appropriate, and i love how the essence of liliana and capella's designs were kept the same. like its not just that theyre a little less revealing (and even then, theyre both still showing a lot of skin!!! which is good!!! i like the improvement while keeping the main stuff the same), but stuff like liliana's pants aren't transparent (probably to make it easier to animate?) and the yellow/orange gradient in capella's hair looks great!! they also both look more like grown women which is a bonus. unless youre Weird about this shit which is unfortunately a small percentage of the rezero community. like you cant win with those sort of people ig, bc capella's boobs are bigger too ljasdlfj youd think that win more people over.

also i appreciate capella's sports bra bc unlike elsa's outfit it Actually looks like it's supporting her chest. if youre someone with boobs and you dont have a flat chest, youre gonna need support when being active or itll Hurt. and elsa Does Not have proper chest support okay. ill forever wince remembering elsa's design in that sense HAH....

anyway but i digress. i got no clue what to do with toxic people in fandoms despite spending a lot of time lurking in large fandoms with loud toxic people haah.... its hard to do much about it especially with increasingly declining media literacy rates everywhere.... the notorious misogyny/homophobia/etc that can happen sometimes in anime communities.... that sort of thing. i kinda just avoid it when it comes to rezero in specific, or briefly talk about it on here, or rant about it to myself in my head or chat with pals about it in private if it really frustrates me that much!! and id say im a pretty patient person hah... im not frustrated often. and the fandom is not all weird people of course and i can attest to that as ive chatted with a lot of people here... ive also seen a lot of people leave due to the fandom's Issues which is. totally fair tbh.

and i think rezero is often a "baby's first fandom" so to speak... i dont mean that in a bad way of course but its more like its the first exposure to fandom and fandom etiquette and fic etiquette and that sort of thing when it comes to english circles. or at least its a pattern ive noticed, so my theory is that that occasionally that combines with toxic fans and then you get a few people complaining about the community and how bad our fics are on rezero ao3 ig lajdlfjsdlf. which is false by the way :<< and an annoying misuse of ao3 as a free creative archive :<<

but ultimately i hope the rezero character designer's alright (and honestly theyve done super super great work - like the anime Did Not need to give emilia a bajillion outfits and go above and beyond with improving liliana, capella, giving the suwens and their hometown a whole unique aesthetic, etc). and also while i have stuff to criticize with otsuka and tappei... and the toxic parts of the fandom hah... i still enjoy rezero apart from that and the uproar with the designs has not chipped away at me too much!! ive been in this fandom long enough i guess lmao i just roll with punches at this point T^T but i also just try to look on the bright side a lot in general so ;-;;;

these are the sorts of things i like to be aware about but i dont like to get myself super involved with it (since itll probably make it worse and/or make me stressed for no good reason lmfaoo) and i wont let it enjoy the parts of rezero that i do enjoy a lot (which is to say like. the other 98% of rezero hah). so. getting off twitter is the biggest godsend i promise lajdlsfj.

but anyway!! yeah i dont have much organized thoughts on all of this, this is just me rambling my feelings on it. hope this all makes sense anon <3

the most bizarre Cabinet of Curiosities Hot Take I've ever seen is "Emilia is the REAL villain of Lot 36 because she locked Nick in the building to die"

this conversation, when I've seen it, has played out like:

"but she didn't know about the demon."

"she saw him get beaten by the loan shark, though!!! she knew he really COULD be in danger!!! so it's still bad!!!"

it's a 30-minute TV episode, dude. obviously IRL the correct punishment for being a non-violent racist/ethnically prejudiced/possibly homophobic dickbag is not Getting Eaten By A Demon. but everything is heightened because it's a story meant to have a moral (namely, don't be a racist/ethnically prejudiced/possibly homophobic dickbag)

OHOHOHOHOHOHOOOOOOOO EXCELLENT

This is going to get a bit lengthy so my apologies in advance, I'm going to be putting this under a read more cut.

Additionally! If some of you are looking at the name "Talesin" and wondering which of my OCs that is, I've not talked about them on here yet but Talesin is a nextgen OC for Kalim and my boy Copper. The biggest reason I've been mum about him on here is because, quite frankly, @blithesharem is the only person who can apparently coax Talesin into talking. He refuses to offer me anything to work with otherwise, and I only just recently figured out some things about him, again because Blithe and I had been chatting in DMs and it knocked something loose. (I did find out at least one other thing about him today thanks to a prompt from @inmateofthemind but that actually came from Copper, Talesin didn't tell me himself.) He's an elusive little scamp and I love him but boy is he hard to pin down.

5) Any animals you most associate with your OC?

Copper Benoit- ignoring the low-hanging fruit of Copper's unusual animal companions, I associate him with dogs. While you could say it's because Floyd's nickname for him is "Sea Dog", it's also due to the fact a lot of other people have said he's got the energy of a sad, lonely puppy. And I would say that's fairly accurate, especially at the start of his story. (And he probably grows up into the kind of dog that you'd love to have around but definitely don't want to get on the wrong side of.)

Wei Renqiao- Perhaps this is cheating but I associate him with phoenixes. His Signature Spell/Unique Magic, "Revenant Warlord", allows Ren to revive after he's died or been killed somehow. There are certain circumstances in which he can be perma-killed, sure, the magic has its limitations, but typically speaking it would be near-impossible to permanently kill him. And his body heals rapidly when he revives, so I've always seen him as a phoenix since I was first conceptualizing him.

Wei Xinyi- This one might seem a little odd, since Xinyi is an extrovert at heart, but I tend to see them as a tiger. Because we do tend to see more and more videos of tigers being playful or fun, and there are absolutely some endearing moments of tigers that are brothers being silly, but they're still tigers. And I think that's a fairly good rule of thumb for Xinyi: they come across as extremely playful, lighthearted, and affectionate with those close to them, but don't think for a second that's all there is to them.

Talesin- a ring-tailed lemur, apparently. It just fits.

6) Any flowers you associate with your OC?

BITCH FLOWER SYMBOLISM IS MY DAMN LIFEBLOOD

Copper- Blue iris. They symbolize hope and faith, both integral parts of where Copper's story begins, and they also symbolize mystery, which is appropriate to his heritage going unknown for so long (as well as how well he keeps his unique magic hidden.) The color fitting so well with him eventually ending up in Pomefiore is a nice little bonus!

Ren- Lotus, for its meanings of rebirth and regeneration. Emilia, for creativity. Periwinkle, for intellect and mental capability. And forget-me-nots, for fidelity, faithful love, resilience and memory.

Xinyi- it feels fitting that, as a Mulan expy, at least one of the flowers I associate with them the most is pink magnolias, for innocence, youth, joy, femininity and romance. Also sweet William for masculinity, gallantry and courage.

Talesin- Anthurium, for hospitality, and freesia, for joy and friendship. And rhododendron, for danger and a need for caution.

7) Does your OC have a favorite and least favorite food?

Copper- I don't know if he has a least favorite food, but his favorite foods are all fairly spicy. He's not the pickiest eater and I don't think he has a single favorite.

Ren- "Ants climbing a tree", if we're going for food from his culture. It's mung bean vermicelli noodles stir fried with minced meat and sprinkled with scallions. It's been his favorite since childhood and nobody makes it like his mother does! He's also extremely fond of red bean bread and he often bakes it himself! Not sure what his favorite dish is from other cultures, but I can tell you his least favorite food is anything with duck in it. Don't ask why, I don't know, he just doesn't like duck.

Xinyi- This one is interesting, because Xinyi loves cross-cultural exchange and a big, big part of that for them is other foods! They have a running list and their fave foods are subject to change, but (presently based on what they tell me) they love chocolate-covered strawberries, chili-cheese fries, and cheesy potato soup served in bread bowls. (A-Xin, did you go to a festival or something and not tell me.) Atm they don't have a least favorite food.

Talesin- His dad got him hooked on gumbo and cornbread, his baba got him hooked on lamb and rice, and Uncle Jamil got him hooked on beef curry. He also REALLY loves waffles. He immensely dislikes any dishes made with shellfish but he'll tolerate them (with a lot of dramatics) if he absolutely has to.

margaret daino is a 21 year old ward of the church, raised in pittsfield, massachusetts & unknowingly herded back to vatican city, under the guise of taking her finals vows, in order to fulfill what they consider to be her birthright. (𝘛𝘏𝘌𝘠, being the radical believers within the catholic church who conspired to impregnate her with the supposed antichrist in the hopes of driving people back into the church). maggie is a mostly devout young woman who believes the many troubles of her youth were only overcome by her commitment to her faith. while in this new place, maggie meets carlita. a young woman who reminds her of herself & turns out to be her 'sister' of sorts. another scianna, planned & conceived by the church. another offspring of the jackal.

despite the church's somewhat barbaric methods of keeping her under control as a child, she was ultimately grateful for the outcome. believing that her hallucinations were cured by their 'care' - rather than repressed by her own will. as the truth of her origins is slowly unraveled, so is her hold on her demonic capabilities which are what truly causes her 'hallucinations'. (more on that here) unfortunately for margaret, it all comes to light far too late. just as the church had planned, maggie conceives & gives birth to twins. one of which they have been waiting for for many years. a boy. damien. while they make off with their creation, maggie, her daughter [damien's twin sister] & the jackal [her birth father who r*ped & impregnated her with the twins], are all left behind to burn. margaret & her daughter are saved by carlita while the jackal continues to burn. from there, they are on the run.

following the events of the film, margaret is now a new, ill - prepared single mother, left to fend for herself, carlita & her daughter. it takes time, but eventually (thanks to the natural death of it's previous owner) the girls acquire a cabin out in the woods & begin to live off the land. margaret teaches herself a lot about food, medicine, & using the resources available to her. she does her best to teach carlita & her daughter once she's old enough, fearing the worst outcome is on it's way to her. that the church will find them.

• religion is a closed box that margaret never again opens, forever scarred by the reality of the life... [the lies] she partook in for so many years. instead, maggie teaches herself & the girls about all kinds of religions, spiritual beliefs, etc. as they navigate the formation of their own sets of values, beliefs, & moral codes.
