❝   HISTORY.

to some, she was smart. to others, she was troublesome.

lyra was born on aria prime and went to school at the university of rudrig. she studied biology, given that her first love had always been nature. she adored the abundance of ecosystems throughout the galaxy and wanted to learn everything she possibly could about the flora and fauna of the universe.

she became a prospector because of the sheer amount of time she spent in caves researching crystal formations, rocks, moss, and other things. she was quite small, so she could fit into tight spaces -- it was just the best thing for her. she could memorize cave systems and map them out in her head, which made her incredibly useful.

she met galen erso when she acted as his guide for him and his scientists studying crystals on espinar. she was an expert, and her intelligence caught the attention of the young engineer. the two fell in love and married six months later on coruscant.

three years later, the clone wars began and lyra was working with galen studying kyber crystals. no one really understood why she was able to find them better than anyone else, but no one bothered to question it either.

a group of separatists held a coup on vallt where they were studying and captured lyra and galen. she gave birth to jyn while still a prisoner. it was horrible, and lyra was worried they’d never make it out.

six months later, the family was rescued by orson krennic as part of a prisoner exchange program. the relief was immediate.

krennic, who noticed how useful lyra was, knew that he would never be able to continue his operations without her, but also didn’t want her getting in the way of the empire’s true desires. he had her and jyn go on a dig on alpinn while krennic and galen worked together on the greatest technological terror the galaxy had yet to see.

when she found out that krennic and the empire had been destroying planets for their resources, she blew up on him. she refused to let herself and her family be aides in this terrible injustice, so they fled to lah’mu and hid for four years. they befriended saw gerrera in that time, who helped them get their homestead.

the day krennic found them was the day lyra knew she would die. there was no way she was going to let herself and her family fall back into the clutches of the empire. that’s why she trained jyn in their escape plan should anything like this happen. she gave her darling girl a fragment of a kyber crystal, told her to trust the force, and that was all she could do. she tried her best to kill krennic, warning him that he would never win. she died not knowing if she was right.

she wakes up in the woods and wanders to town.

she just wants to spend time with her daughter and get to know her again. she wants to get to know the people she cares about, and be a part of her life again.

❝   HEADCANONS.

she’s force sensitive. there are so many little things throughout her life that has led to that conclusion, and she’s not so powerful that she’d be a jedi knight or anything like that, but she just has a few quirks that the force aids her in. she has a talent for mimicry and learning other languages at the drop of a hat, and she also has a similar quirk to rye: she can sense kyber crystals. she can’t hear them the way that rye can, but she can find them easily. it’s what made her so useful to krennic.

she believes in the jedi and follows a lot of the order’s beliefs on generosity, compassion, respect for the natural world, stuff like that.

lyra is such a good and loving mother. she believed that jyn came before everything, before work, before themselves -- she wanted jyn to have the best life possible. that’s what all mothers want for their children, right? she and galen did everything they could to carve out the perfect life for their stardust.

personality-wise, again, she’s ‘troublesome.’ she’s not afraid to call you out for wrongdoing, but she’s also a mom and a gentle woman. as a believer in the jedi, she tried to follow their teachings and be as selfless and generous and loving as possible. she’s humble, but never doubts her intelligence. she’s strong.

she’s lowkey an og hippie, she loves nature and plants and crystals and just vibes. big fan of dirt.

I’ve been thinking of if Emma was around when Leland left and oh boy have I thought of a lot of angst

To start off, she sits at the end of the dock and waits for Leland to come back. Since Jim was eight when their dad left, she’s five at the time of departure. She knows that her father has left but she doesn’t know that he’s not coming back. It breaks Sarah’s heart a lot to glance outside and see her five year old daughter sitting on the dock, waiting for a man who’s not coming back. If she fell asleep, Jim goes and brings her inside.

When Emma was seven she realized that her dad was never coming back. She cried for hours when she figured it. She cried so hard that she ended up getting sick. She even starts struggling with abandonment issues. One night when Sarah was tucking her in bed, Emma asked if she was gonna leave her like her dad. Sarah reassured her that she would never leave her behind. However there were some doubts for the girl. She would cling to either Sarah or Jim, worried that she’ll be abandoned again.

When Jim was twelve and Emma was nine is when things around the siblings become tense. Leland and Sarah weren’t expecting a second child so Emma was definitely a surprise. Jim started to put some of the blame on his sister, blaming her birth for driving their dad away. He said things he shouldn’t have said and Emma would either cry or fight back. Things became so bad that they would physically fight if someone said the wrong thing. Those fights drew Emma to stay in her room most of the time, only leaving for meals or to use the bathroom. She thought that Jim hated her so bad that he would leave her like Leland did. What she didn’t know was that Jim started feeling a little guilty about it. She would spend her time in her room reading or making imaginary stories. She would even play those stories out with her toys. She eventually started writing those stories down in notebooks and turned some of them in for creative writing grades. Her teachers were amazed by her storytelling skills, even telling Sarah that she has a bright future as an author.

Eventually things between the siblings mended a little bit but they weren’t the same. Like her brother, Emma started failing in school. She would skip classes and hang out with the wrong crowd. She only had one run in with law. It was when her and some friends were vandalizing something and the cops saw them. The kids took off running and she got caught. When she saw the destroyed look in her mom’s eyes, she promised herself to not get in trouble with the law anymore. However she was still failing in school, she stayed in her room trying to fight her own dark thoughts and whether or not to cave in. She felt that if her dad had left, then anyone could leave her behind and she’ll be forgotten. No one would care

She has potential to be something great but she doesn’t think so. Sarah worries a lot about her children, if one will end up behind bars or the other in a grave.

Something Odd

Figured I write something for the Mermaid Siblings AU. I’ve been thinking about this AU lately. I’m also thinking of making a fic with this AU so let me know if it’s something you’re interested in

The smell of the salty spray was nothing short of comforting for him. Once again, Jim sat in his sandy backyard and watched the waves crash onto the beach. He sighed feeling the heat of the afternoon sun on his skin but getting sunburned was the least of his worries. He was thinking about his father again. He knew his parents had gotten divorced long ago but the reasons why are always left out, but what really pained him the most was how his father disappeared practically immediately.

Normally, when thoughts of that man arise he sits on the beach and listen to the waves crashing on the shore. It does wonders to ease his mind and pain. For a moment he sat there, listening to the sea’s song and letting his worries fade. Until it was cut off by the sound of a boat engine.

He looked in the horizon and saw the same boat that housed the man the seaside town deemed crazy. He ran into Ossian once, when the latter was getting more supplies for his boat. The two didn’t say much but the older man rambled on about the ‘sea demons.’ Mermaids. Jim had heard of stories of people catching a glimpse of something colorful or seeing human like eyes in the waves and everyone wrote them off as tricks of the eye. Ossian believed that they were real and out there somewhere, waiting to strike their town and when they did he’ll kill them all.

He watched the boat sail flap in the wind as it sailed out of sight. As he did, he felt like he was being watched. As soon as the boat was out of sight, he scanned the sea surface. He saw nothing out of the ordinary and figured it must’ve been a crab or bird. “Jim! Dinner’s ready!” Sarah called.

“Coming Mom!” He said. He stood up and heard a splash. He turned around and saw ripples in the water. He assumed it must’ve been a wave and went inside. He didn’t see the flash of purple that glistened in the setting sun.

Okay I don’t know which event I should write the Hawkins Sibling in so I’m making a poll. Underneath it is the basic descriptions of them for those that aren’t familiar with them.

A Firelit Sky over the Sands: Kalim and Jamil invite the siblings and a few others to their hometown to see a famous fireworks festival in honor of a marriage between a princess and a young man

Fairy Gala: The magestone that acts as the school’s air conditioning gets stolen and is used as a decoration for the Fairy Gala, an event to welcome spring. One of the siblings team up with a few students to infuriate the fancy event and get the gem back

Beanfest: A physical event that’s like Capture the Flag. The farmer and monster teams are against each other and protect or get the golden harp

Camp Vargas: Coach Vargas takes the sports clubs out into the woods for three days to test their survival skills. However something dangerous goes down one night

I like to imagine that Jim pokes Emma on the forehead a lot. He does this for a variety of reasons, to annoy her, to get her to calm down, to get her to pay attention to what he’s about to say, etc. When he first does this, she was so confused but she kinda gets used to it. She thinks it’s annoying at times but that’s what older siblings are for

I like to think Emma becomes known as the Traveler of Dimensions. She somehow managed to get into her birthworld from her homeworld one night and then a parallel universe of that world with little to no explanation as to how. It could cause a villain to desire the secret she holds for dimensional travel

Mermaid Siblings AU

Concept:

The siblings are both half human and half merfolk. Their mother is a human while their father was a merman. However while Emma was a baby and Jim was a toddler their parents separated. Each one took one child to care for as their own. As the years went on Jim forgot about his little sister while Emma never knew she had an older brother. Until one day they reunite and realize who the other person is.

Their lives:

Jim lived his life on the land. He knew his parents had separated and knew he had a sister but hadn’t seen her in years. He assumed that his father had decided to keep him and their mother out of her life and forgot about her for the best. He and Sarah lived in an beachside house. They weren’t well off but they didn’t have so little. They’re barely getting by. Jim had never been into the water to swim. He never had an interest to swim for fun and instead focused on helping his mother. However he’s bitter about his father leaving them behind. He’s gotten into trouble with the law before and is trying to make up for failing his mom.

He barely spent any time on his sandy backyard. He only sat on the shore if he was feeling really troubled about his life, sometimes Sarah joined him and they’d talk. Sometimes he felt like he was being watched from somewhere but whenever he tried to look for the source, it was gone. He brushed it off to a seagull or some bird. If only he’d looked at the waves.

Emma’s life was different. She lived under the sea, doing her best to survive. Her dad left when she was five and she had to fend for herself since then. She’s gotten into fights just for some food, some of them leaving her with scars. Sometimes she looks at the surface, wondering what it’s like to have a family and someone to look after her and living on land. Sometimes she watches a teenage boy and his mother fussing over him, feeling an ache in her chest. She always left before getting caught.

There’s one rule each merperson must live by; Never be seen by humans. You don’t know if they’ll catch you and kill you for science. She remembered some other merfolk telling her what could happen. Those who have been caught were never seen or heard from again. She really wants to know what life with a family is like. She also wonders how different life on land is from her life.
