Character Playlists - Part 1

Since it is spooky season (and dying-from-exams season), I thought I would share some of my playlists for my more supernatural and thriller-esque OCs. (Really I just want to talk about my OCs because I have no time to write, but shh, that’s beside the point.) Since I use these playlists to keep track of plot, songs are meant to be listened to in order, unless otherwise stated. 

Aisa - the bard playlist: A playlist with a plot twist three songs in. Aisa is one of my D&D characters—a kind and cheerful tiefling bard with an adoptive gnome father. Except (unbeknownst to the other PCs) she’s not actually a tiefling. She’s a succubus. She doesn’t want to be a succubus, but it is rather unfortunate that the first guy she ever kissed had low hit points... Oops. Guess who gets to go on their hero’s journey as a wanted murderer!

Eos - the villain playlist: Eos, an agama Faunus, is an old RWBY OC from a discontinued darkfic called “Eos Rising.” The story follows her from her Tragic Backstory to her rise as a high-ranking White Fang member to her corruption arc and eventual downfall (and sort of redemption). And when I say darkfic, I mean darkfic—we’re talking murder, lynching, child abuse, assault, terrorism, the works—which is why I didn’t make it past the first chapter. Now I just listen to the playlist whenever I’m writing/designing a villain character. Or just want a confidence boost. There are some bangers on there. 

Joy - the teen angst playlist: The only non-OC playlist on this list. From Murdered: Soul Suspect, Joy is a punk(ish) medium with an unfortunate case of paranormal magnetism—with occasionally fatal side effects. Her story was supposed to continue in my longfic A Certain Darkness, but that is something that needs to be completely rewritten if I ever want to post it (as a result of containing too much teen angst). 

Angel - the existential crisis playlist: More like the “cure for an existential crisis” playlist. Sort of. Angel is the other protagonist from A Certain Darkness—who is murdered in the prologue of the fic. Revived as a ghost, she must find a way to escape the limbo world of Dusk and move on. The story contains elements of horror, high school drama, found family, and more of a gay vibe than I originally intended. Obviously has a heartbreakingly bittersweet ending. Parts of her playlist intentionally overlap with Joy’s. 

Cassandra - the vagabond witch playlist: (Yes, I know that’s specific.) From an original medieval fantasy story, Cassie is an elemental witch with a fear of fire. Forced to stop moping about her Tragic Backstory in her lonely cabin in the woods, she is dragged into a war that will impact every creature—human, non-human, magical, and non-magical—on the continent. 

Avalon - the queen playlist: Set in the same medieval fantasy world as Cassie, Ava’s story is much more of a political thriller, but I’m including it because parts of the two playlists overlap. There’s drama, romance, lesbians, dragons (and lesbian dragons), nonbinary emperors, epic trans warriors, as well as all the elves and magic of a generic fantasy. One day I’ll write it. One day. 

Diana - the werewolf playlist: I’m still editing this playlist, so it’s not completely in order yet (nor are the songs final). Feel free to shuffle. Diana is from “The Scarlett Cauldron,” so since the entire story is available on AO3, there’s no need for me to elaborate. 

Making the Most of the Apocalypse - AKA “Ros”: There’s no order to this playlist, so it can be shuffled as you like. I’ve been in a Fallout 4 mood lately, so most of these songs are chosen for my non-Sole Survivor OC, Ros, although there are a few for other characters as well. Or just songs I like. That too.
