okay here to pick ur mind…i know you’ve alluded to it throughout WWGTTAI and debriefing but do u think bottoming is something that i’ve struggled with throughout his relationship with mav-especially if he enjoyed it-bc it may have been “more gay” in his mind and therefore harder to excuse due to the inherent misogyny wrapped up in men’s homophobia? it’s something we’ve talked abt in my gender studies classes so i just wanted to know how you think your ice may have approached that due to the repression of his sexuality so throughly and for so long!

as always with questions like this there’s a diegetic (in-universe) answer and a non-diegetic (writing theory) answer so I’ll start with the diegetic answer (not tagging this as nsfw but obv refer to the subject matter & discretion advised):

he isn’t thinking about it. I mean, he has to think about the mechanics of it, because sure there’s a lot of prep work involved, but he’s not really thinking about what it means, because no one’s telling him to. He knows it’s “wrong” —but the whole thing is “wrong,” anyway! The fact that he’s doing anything with Maverick is already wrong... I think he categorizes things as “not-fucked-up” and “yes-fucked-up” in his head, and any form of non-societally-approved contact with another man is “yes-fucked-up,” and there’s not really a sliding scale. Which is why Maverick’s weird extended hug thing right when Ice leaves TOPGUN (ch.4? I forget) is like literally the biggest deal in the world to him. I think Maverick could’ve actually groped him and he would’ve responded the same way. It’s all fucked-up, in his head. No difference between hugging/kissing/fucking/being fucked; it's all the same. There are the rules, and then there’s breaking the rules—no gray area in Ice’s mind (though note, in turn, Maverick’s analysis of Ice bending the rules—there is a gray area, just an unacknowledged one). 

So, yeah, he isn’t really thinking about the implications of the specific act. Maybe he knows that he enjoys it, and that thinking about what it means that he enjoys it would ruin it, so he doesn’t think about it. Also, he’s operating under the unspoken assumption that there’s something “wrong” with Maverick and not with him, because remember that Maverick already confessed to engaging in same-sex acts in ch. 4. There’s something fundamentally “wrong” with Maverick, so anything Ice does automatically looks better in comparison, because (he thinks) his transgressions are isolated incidents, whereas Maverick’s are a known pattern—even if Ice’s “transgressions” amount to literally being fucked by another guy. Hey, well, at least I’m not as bad as rule-breaker Maverick, who does this all the time, apparently! 

In Ch. 8 I was kind of trying to harp on that fact with the use of the word “resentment” during Ice’s discussion of choice/free will—there is kind of a sense that Maverick did this to him against his will, as in, he wasn’t “yes-fucked-up” until he met Maverick/this whole FWB-situation started, and maybe there is some deep-seated resentment about the fact that he might have been “normal” if it weren’t for Maverick (he wouldn’t have been, but he doesn’t realize that). I was close to having him just say this outright in Ch. 8, but as I’ll talk about below, their relationship is already pretty toxic, and there were some lines of toxicity I didn’t want to cross explicitly.

As for the non-diegetic answer, AKA the reason I wrote it this way: I’m kind of hesitant to politicize sociosexual (esp. “hierarchical”) roles in fiction, because I feel like it’s an easy way to betray your own political biases (as a writer) towards male sexual roles—it’s just too slippery of a slope IMO. Especially once you introduce ranks and professional/financial power dynamic differences, I feel like it’s all-too easy to portray the relationship as incredibly and toxically sociopolitically unequal. Yeah, I guess it would make more sense for very-closeted Ice to top 100% of the time, but he’s already “hierarchically” above Maverick 100% of the time anyway—politically, professionally, financially, in terms of social respect, etc. I didn’t want their dynamic to be skewed all the way towards one character having all the social/external/traditionally masculine power, so I didn’t write it like that. That in and of itself is a political decision that betrays my beliefs about male sexuality, and might not make sense in-universe, with characters this repressed, but…I personally felt uncomfortable with the alternative.

I think I’ve explained this a couple times elsewhere, but I wanted Ice & Mav to be true equals in this fic, because it reflects the equality they achieve in canon— “You can be my wingman anytime” vs. “Bullshit, you can be mine.” They are canonically equals. And, yes, of course in a sexual relationship you can be “giver” or “taker” and still be “equal” with the other person, but—like, you see how it would be different, right? If you’re only ever the “giver,” in our society’s traditional understanding of gender roles, you have an insane amount of power over the other person, and I wanted Ice & Mav to be equals when they’re with each other. It’s why I was hesitant having like an actual D/S dynamic with them as well—and the lack of that dynamic is itself a plot point. Ice in ch. 8 rebels against what he thinks their dynamic is—namely, that Maverick always leads/gives the orders, and Ice always follows. He portrays himself as submissive in that moment (“I’ve never had a choice”), but in reality he has just as much control over this relationship as Maverick does—i.e. he is just as “dominant,” and wants it just as bad, he just can’t articulate that. Which is the point of his whole character arc. Their equality is the point, not the transgressiveness of the act itself.

Also related to his character arc is the passivity of the act of bottoming as well, which is maybe why it's "overrepresented" in the story (sorry coming back to add this graf after doing the tags already &then Having A Thought). Like if Ice's whole thing is following orders/not having a choice, which makes him a great naval officer but a deeply flawed and confused person, then it makes sense that his narrative focuses most on the following/passive act of "taking," not necessarily the more leading/active role of "giving." These are simplistic terms obv but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at.

-people who lack an element in their chart really do surround themselves with a lot of people in said element. for example, my friend lacks earth and has at least 4 friends who are earth sun signs

-some capricorns really can't get along with leos, but they are attracted to sag and aries placements. they can't help it

This is for fun, they are just my personal observations :)

♦️ Capricorn Venus might be attracted to people with good social status like doctors/lawyers, social success might be a turn-on for them. They value stability and financial success.

♦️Virgo venus is the venus sign most likely to have cosmetic procedures done as they project their perfectionism on their appearance and aesthetic. They want to (and often do) look perfect.

♦️Mars in 1st house might come across as agressive or intimidating. They might not look very approachable. They could have a strong body and look athletic regardless of their exercise routine.

♦️Mars in scorpio: I know only two people in my close circle with this placement and they both have dark circles under their eyes. Even when they are not tired. It gives them a penetrating and intense look.

I usually write in third person limited. I have a habit of writing about a character wondering about something. Examples: Character A wonders what that look was about. Character A wonders if Character B is thinking of them too.

In the moment it seems to fit but sometimes reads as juvenile especially when I find myself writing a sentence like this at least once per chapter or around every 2k words.

Is this a weak way of hinting at someone’s internal thoughts when they are unsure of something? A case of telling and not showing? Is there a better way to convey this?

Conveying Emotions of Others in 1st/3rd-Limited

When writing in first-person or third-person limited, your POV character can't know what's going on inside other characters' heads. Having your character consider what others might be thinking is one way to prompt the reader about other character's thoughts, but it can definitely be a quagmire of "I/they wondered" and "seemed to say/seemed be thinking" type statements.

Having said that, there are two things you can do to limit an over-reliance on the wondering and "seeming to say/think" statements. The first is shift the focus to the internal knowledge and external cues the POV character is using to speculate in the first place. For example, if Character B makes a face, and POV character A wonders what it's about, that curiosity is based on three things: the face they made, observation of surrounding circumstances, and personal applicable knowledge. So, instead of having Character A observe B's expression and wonder why they made it, have them observe the expression and think about the circumstances and relevant applicable knowledge instead. So, we go from:

Character B's nose crumpled as they scowled, and Character A wondered why they made that face.

To:

Character B's nose crumpled as they scowled. They twisted the doorknob more forcefully this time, but it refused to open.

"Didn't the caretaker say it would be unlocked?" Character B asked.

"Yes," A returned with a withering look. "Obviously, it isn't."

Now, instead of having A wonder what B is thinking or internally speculate, we just show what's happening. They make a face, then more information comes in (the door won't open) so it's clear that's why they made the face in the first place. If B had any confusion on this point originally, it was because the caretaker had said the door would be unlocked--which they point out, rather than internally speculating--and this gives the reader the further information that the door is in fact locked. No wondering necessary.

The second option is to do the wondering without using that word or any other filter word. So, for example:

Character B's nose crumpled as they scowled, and Character A wondered why they made that face.

Becomes:

Character B's nose crumpled as they scowled. Were they angry? Frustrated? Character A wasn't sure, but it seemed like a good time to step up and offer assistance.

Or:

Character B's nose crumpled as they scowled. A wasn't sure if they were angry, frustrated, or just tired, but it seemed like a good time to step up and offer assistance.

no owlposting goes without culture explantion:

1st comic: soccer is "jalkapallo" in finnish, but it might be hard for japanese to pronouce correctly, due to japanese language not having the "L" sound finnish has (the L sound is tied to japanese R, which for explains how sometimes names with R in japanese are romanized with L). depending on the area, soccer can also be shortened to "jalis" or "futis" (from swedish "futbol" for soccer, I think?).

(oh! and someone mentioned in tags or somewhere that they think Endou would be good with languages? that made me think that what if Endou's good with them, but just not good at studying them? like, textbooks do him nothing, but when he's surrounded in another language, he's like a sponge and learns it like nothing on the go? I think I really like that idea!)

2nd comic: I actually drew this after watching the scenery on a 3 hour train ride - if you travel long distances here (on train or motorways), you'll see mostly forests, fields and lakes. especially up in north, there will be like swams too, but... it's pretty empty here. (I might be biased, but I personally love the scenery) ((and it was kinda freaky to visit tokyo and think that there was a looot more people than in my whole freaking country.....)

3rd comic:

sauna habits. yes, we gather a bunch of birch branches and hit each other with them. no, it actually feels good!! it's hard to hit so hard it'd hurt, the leaves feel nice and it smells good. you can also find them sold in bigger stores, right in the freezer section.

rally english: the way of pronouncing english like you pronounce finnish. it's dumb and fun and usually done by race drivers, hence the name. also to note: if you write it down, no english speaker understands, but every finn can read it (ai käänt rait it pat ai vil trai) ((if you want to hear it, here's a video. watch at least the first clip because poor timo...))

also: "voi juukelis puukelis" is literally how the finnish subs translate saiki k's "yare yare daze" and I love it so erne is gonna say it, even though I doubt no one actually says it

also also: not important but a fun fact, traditionally with summer cottages and other summer places, the sauna is a separate building. the living place is a bit further inland, and the sauna is close to the body of water. some newer cottages etc. can have another sauna in the actual building too, usually with an electric stove, instead of wood-heated ones used in the separate sauna.

🌹Lilith in 4th in my opinion isn't just not getting along with the women in their family, but being and growing up alienated from their relatives and family. They loose touch with their ancestral roots or there is some sort of shame associated with their identity in that regard. Pisces over the 3rd house cusp of a natal chart can indicate that the person has a talent for poetry or creative writing!

I personally know someone who has the ruler of their 10th (mars), placed in their 3rd house! Guess what they do for work? They sell cars!!!! This is VERY fitting as the third house also represents transportation! (In tropical Astrology).

Having the ruler of your 7th house, placed in the 10th can manifest in many different ways. It can indicate being attracted to people who are significantly older than you, or those who are in a position of power in society! This can also mean meeting significant partners in a professional setting. The 7th house also governs business partners. So, this placement can in fact indicate that your future spouse/long-term partner works in the same career field as you.

Interestingly, there has been a link between having your natal Sun square your Moon , and divorced parents. The opposition can apply too. But, I’ve observed that the opposition often indicates parents who were never married, OR parents who remained married despite their marital problems.

Some of the most intelligent people I know have both 9H and 3H placements! It’s crazy because people with 9th house placements usually have a lot of general knowledge. These are the people who know something about everything!

Indications that you may settle abroad:

9H Sun/ 9H Mercury

Ruler of your 4th house placed in your 9th house.

Ruler of your 4th, placed in your 12th (the 12th house also represents ‘faraway lands’.

Sagittarius Mercury

Honorable mention: Sagittarius Rising! (This is more of a personal observation. I know many sag risings who live or studied abroad).

The asteroid “Ceres” in the 1st house, or conjunct the Ascendant has often been observed in the charts of people who have poor body image/food complexes.

Venus-Pluto culture is morphing into a completely different person after each relationship. This is especially true for those who have their Venus conjunct Pluto! Love & relationships are often huge catalysts for transformation, in the lives of Venus-Pluto natives.

Chiron, Pluto, Mars, or Saturn in the 10th house often manifests as a “father wound”. Hard aspects made to the natal Sun, can also indicate a difficult relationship with the father.

For the “mother wound”, I would say Chiron, Saturn, or Mars in the 4th. Hard aspects made to the moon often indicates an intense relationship with the mother! Moon square Lilith, Moon conjunct/square/opposite Pluto, Moon square Neptune, Moon conjunct/square Saturn, Moon square/opposite/conjunct Chiron are some examples.

Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, Pisces and Cancer placements, especially risings are the easiest for me to spot!

Capricorn: (I have no Capricorn or cancer placements but I truly believe the Capricorn/cancer axis produces the most gorgeous people!) you can always spot a cap rising by their jaw line/bone structure. Kylie Jenner, Ariana Grande, Naomi Campbell are celebrity examples.

Aries: You can identify them by their foreheads and eyebrows! Aries rules the head. Many Aries placements (especially risings) have forehead scars/markings or they may struggle with acne/their skin in general. Rihanna is an example of an Aries rising celebrity who has a distinct forehead. Kendall Jenner is an Aries rising who has opened up about her skin troubles.

Aquarius: it’s so cliche to say aqua risings look like aliens lol but they do! They have a very distinct head shape! Many also have the Saturnian square jaw line, or high cheek bones! Side note: aqua placements often have very long limbs! This doesn’t mean they’re tall! They just tend to have really long arms, legs, fingers etc..

Pisces: The EYES! The best way to spot a Pisces rising is by looking at their eyes. They either have really droopy eyes, or eyes that protrude slightly. Their eye always look sleepy, ‘dreamy’ or distant. Billie Eilish & Whitney Houston are perfect celebrity examples!

Cancer: Cancer placements look very similar to Capricorn placements in my opinion. Their features are just “softer” seeing as they are ruled by the moon! Cancer risings are often said to look like the moon emojis!!🌚🌝 Adele, Cameron Diaz, Farrah Fawcett, and Angelina Jolie are some celebrity examples.

This is more of a personal example, but every solar return year in which I have had Saturn or Mars in the 12th house of my solar return chart, have been very difficult mental health years for me! Hahah I must add that I had transit PLUTO & SATURN squaring my luminaries at the same time!

Interestingly, the years where I had many planets in the solar return 5th, 11th, and 1st houses were the best years of my life!

well, to indulge myself i'm writing this post to ramble and share a bit of my Gahan barbarian!au. it's going to be a bit of a long post i think, we'll see.

i saw noel's post about their gladiator!yohan & prince!gaon (check it here!) and it makes me miss writing the arranged marriage barbarian!au i have, it only has what.. 3 or 4 chapters I think. you can read it here.

i've always been fascinated by the visuals of medieval, historical, period era. even post apocalyptic future settings like Horizon Zero games franchise.

i think i started au bcs i've played too much Assassin's Creed Valhalla— i haven't finished it yet, too preoccupied with Monster Hunter World— but i have sketched my female Eivor several times in my sketchbook. this was when i'm curious and interested enough to draw human but haven't fully grasped the gesture, anatomy, shapes and all. i usually draw what i take interest on and it helps me tremendously, to keep on learning and push through my frustrations.

and of course.. my Gahan brainrot picked it up. hence the barbarian!au for TDJ born

i have sketches of Gahan in this au, i think i've shared them here too but i'll re-share here. it doesn't catch many eyes, i admit it's a bit of a bummer but I like the idea anyway. I used to imagined them before I went to sleep, now it's idol/celeb!gaon x mysterious husband!yohan that's occupying my mind. but anyways! here are the sketches.

1st sketch is me trying to see his body proportion in viking/barbarian attire. the upper left sketch was me wanting to see modern Yohan stripping off his clothes ig haha.. anyways, between Gaon/Jinyoung and Yohan/Jisung, it's VERY difficult to nail down his face. less lines doesn't resembles him at all and add some more lines he looks too realistic to my simplified version of Gaon/Jinyoung. it was hard trying to find the balance for these characters to be in the same picture and look like they belong in the same style. i want to do Yohan/Jisung's pretty face justice but i still struggled in this sketches. i think this was 2021? 2022?

2nd sketch— his long protruding neck lmao i haven't fully grasped how a person can pose naturally but it came out as if he has turtle neck syndrome going on. well done Yohan! you are a turtle apparently according to my hand. all jokes aside, this was me attempting to paint his face bcs i never really attempted to paint gahan. i doodled and sketched more than i paint/rendering and i'm on my way to learn more of rendering daily if possible, alongside with my daily sketches. you can also see i've tried to give some color to his attire and some medallion or such. do you see a braid there? i will get there, the braid is something significant in this story ;)

3rd sketch is basically me planning out his character design as a barbarian/viking chief. you can see bits of references cuts here and there, took me quite some time bcs i just started to really try my hands on concept character design properly— i love cloaks and capes and vikings has exactly just that, and the winter times are especially my favorite type of attire on them so i thought why not give Yohan polar bear fur as his official formal attire while still flaunting his wonderful body to the world be it summer or winter lmao. here's where you know it's fantasy. i'm sure people back then drink ales and what not to keep their body warm so they can go bare-chested in winter even but i'm sure the day after that they will regret it. but i make Yohan and his clan to have special abilities for living in cold places. doesn't mean i don't make them wear winter attire but this is only bcs i want him to be bare-chested xD the one I post here was before i dabble on the sketch a bit more. hopefully one day i can share it again with more updates for this au.

now.. onto Gaon's sketches.

he's a Prince in this story. his parents, the King and the Queen, arranged a marriage for him for political reasons. but they have special reasons as to why they pick Yohan, aside from political purposes, to be their son's betrothed and gave him away to Yohan's barbarian clan.

1st sketch (ignore the upper left, that's Jinyoung from his other drama). i want to see him in medium and long hair length. there's a purpose to this. he has his canon Gaon hairstyle when he was the Prince in the palace. but with time and some adjustments living with Yohan and his barbarian clan rubs off on him. perhaps it's due to that, or he's grown tired to cut it off again and again (he has no one to groom him properly now unlike in the palace), practical reason is to maintain heat around his neck while in winter, or it's his idea of adapting and blending in with the enemy. you can't blame him for being wary. he's whisked away from his comfort place and home and married off to a fearsome and famous barbarian on the land at that time, almost willingly got raped by Yohan on 1st chapter (yes, you read that right). other reasons why he grows his hair, as i mentioned the culture rubs off on him, is something to do with the hair braiding too. and personal reason is that i want to see pretty Gaon in long hair lol

2nd sketch on the left was him on early days on Yohan's fur beddings. the right was him perhaps laughing out loud by some surprising and amusing thing Yohan said after living with him for some months, you can see the different hair length there. gosh he looks unalive in here lol idk why.. my sketches were still rigid here

3rd sketch is them after establishing a genuine intimate relationship and Yohan has to be away to fend off some unexpected visitors. unfortunately it cost Yohan some of his men's lives. but he made it back to his clan and his betrothed. i make it as if Gaon was anxious waiting for him and one of the barbarian shouted for Yohan's arrival and he ran immediately. lunged at Yohan perhaps, the barbarian Chief managed to catch him but didn't quite have the strength to carry them both upright as the weariness sinks into him post battle & adrenaline wearing off of him. he's home now, in Gaon's arms.

now.. the hair braiding.

barbarians/viking has long hair and braids on their hair. styled cascading down or up into a pony tail or a mohawk and such. idk if this is historically correct but i'm winging most of this anyway but the idea of braids in this story is that it's significant to lovers. it's a mark between special intimate relationship (like lovers, spouses, soulmates). one can have a braid or braid their lover's hair should they wish to, it's very intimate and special for them. jeweleries might have certain status symbol for them and their ranks but I also prefer these barbarians have something simple to symbolize their intimacy. something that can get overlooked but enough for their significant other to know (and some people) what it means.

I like the idea of Yohan having accessories for his attire but his hair is clean from braids. clearly it's saying something if you've read this far and seeing my sketches for their different stages of relationship. over the years of them finally developing feelings and genuinely established a relationship, despite already being married an Gaon almost got raped by Yohan, they are lovers.

yet Yohan never really initiates anything about him wanting to have braid(s) or braiding Gaon's hair. he might have explained about what braids are to Gaon when the bambi was curious or off-handedly commented something about it. Gaon really finds out the real meaning from Yohan's ppl and he wonders why Yohan never asks or wants braids from him. then he realizes Yohan has always been respectful to him, even years after that night he almost raped him. always keeping healthy distance, outside of their sex and other intimate physical affections, he usually waits until Gaon ask first regarding intimate things. not that he never initiates things, he figures something as serius and committed as this is something Gaon wants to have an option to bail out from. they were arranged to have marriage for political reasons after all, Gaon has the freedom to not have feelings for him as long as he stays within the wedding pact rules Yohan make with the King & the Queen ( for Gaon's sake too). He never expects to have feelings for the Prince and he always keeps the option of Gaon falling out of love of him one day. it is only fair, he thinks.

but then Gaon asks him if he wants Gaon to braid his hair. the Prince never ceases to make him falter. it still shocks and amuses him, to have someone have this much effect on him. even with nervousness and blushing state Gaon is in now after uttering those words.. Yohan wonders what he has done to have this kind of luxury to have someone this precious in his arms.

and if his people noticed a single braid just near the back of his neck when wind swept his hair or if he pulls his hair into a ponytail on hot summer days? they will all grin smugly.. Yohan likes to keep it a bit hidden from view mainly bcs it's practical and he doesn't want ppl to accidentally graze it off when he's having friendly wrestle matches or axe practices. or even having people cut it off when he's at war. he doesn't hide it per se, it's visible when it's visible. Gaon smiles sweetly and adoringly when he finds this out bcs to him, it feels as if Yohan is unconsciously protecting it. protecting their relationship, protecting Gaon.

and if Gaon walks out of Yohan's tent, that days when he asks if he can braid Yohan's hair, with a braid or several on his hair? visible to everyone? the people cheer and roar in celebration. they throw a huge feast and toast to their relationship, congratulating the power couple. wishing the gods to give these two their blessings and to protect them. they're finally able to see their Chief have a partner that is equal to him. it's a memorable day

but if you think this story doesn't come with heavy angst, tears, pain and betrayal.. well think again ;))

Visitors would find photographs she has taken at events and around the worlds on the walls up for display or purchase (mostly landscapes for purchase).  She also does photo shoots in her studio (think family portrait).  She can be hired to take photos for events (she had done several weddings) or even for special reasons.  This is the perfect venue to meet Risri whether you’re just browsing or coming in to schedule something in particular.

Cenarion Circle: Risri is a member of the Cenarion Circle. Anyone who is a member could know Risri or know of her. She became a druid with the circle about 100 years ago. Druid things are always welcome whether its teaching or just chatting about events.

With that being said I am NOT ghost friendly. Don't even waste your time trying to plot or write with me if you know you have a history of ghosting.

I have little to NO limits, I prefer someone with the same outlook because it's fiction, your roleplay life shouldn't effect your REAL LIFE morals.

BUt I will respect your limits and triggers, because I won't do deep pedophilia(As in I won't roleplay anything smut wise under legal age of consent which is 17 in most places, and usually what is done on TV shows with vampires, WHO ARE PLAYED BY ADULT ACTRESSES AND ACTORS.
