There's something insanely intimate about being held by your partner in the middle of the night when you cannot sleep. The softly startled sound they let out, the sleep sigh and hum before they pull you in close, the lingering kiss they give your forehead because they were too tired to pickup their head again
And if they hum an old lullaby to you, one you can feel as you're pressed against their chest, their hand not trapped underneath you rubbing comforting circles into your side until even that slows into a stop as sleep starts to claim them once again alongside you...
Hmmm...

Gods who have been touched by forbidden knowledge and or corrupted aren't allowed pass to a purer realm post-mortem, they are forced to linger in the mortal realm and suffer the rejection of time. They're reduced to nothing more than to suffer from the inflicted pain to their remains in Teyvat, no matter the shape or form these have taken. Such is the fate that awaits these gods and Amon, who was touched by forbidden knowledge and was nothing short of a willing victim to its following corruption. Despite the sayings that his remnants were in the tomb of the Eternal Oasis called Aaru, it was not so when the group which was about to face the Eremites have witnessed by accident.
Truth is different, as the remnants of Amon reside in Apep since the moment the Dragon of Dendro devoured him as part of their promise. For several centuries amounting to millennia, Amon didn't face any sufferings and griefs other than the loss of his one-sided love, Nabu Malikata, in the process of sharing with him knowledge to achieve a shared goal more than the partings with Rhukkadevata despite his appreciation for her and his endless gratitude he would extend to her for helping him erase the forbidden knowledge that was haunting all living being.
To his ignorance, not even his sacrifice or Rhukkadevata's for power were enough to make it disappear completely. He remained in stasis inside Apep's interior as a lingering presence without any corporeal matter to sustain it, nor he had any interest to be. What was done was done, he witnessed what his madness brought: the loss of many of his people, of an unbreakable friendship that nonetheless still remained and his love. There was nothing more of him than waiting to fade away eventually.
And fade away he almost did when several centuries later, the final cleansing of forbidden knowledge was done. With it an enormous void was left within him that caused unrest. For all he knew, he was a fallen god inside a dragon of the old world order for reasons he didn't know or remember. Most of his memories were gone, only the good ones alongside the other two God Kings and a new source of distress: if he's fallen, what about Buer? What about Nabu Malikata? He no longer had more memories of pursuing the forbidden knowledge other than the feeling that he was pursuing something in order to create his own world, devoid of the Heavenly Principles and the imposed shackles. Did he succeed? Did he fail? What about his kingdom? What about his people?
As one of the Dendro Archon's confidant and who stands closest to her, al-Háitham took part in her mission to find out what was the source that was causing her unrest, to find out what was the promise she was made to a strange kin in olden times. At the time, al-Háitham was present in the moment the promise was done as Rhukkadevata (who he no longer remembers, as he is subjected to Teyvat's orders) too but just as her, he can't remember what it was about. Only that it was indeed to this kin that now has taken the form of mushroom kin.
In the moment of truth when they were in Apep's interior, King Deshret found the opportunity to see for himself what has happened upon recognizing al-Háitham: the grandchild of that good man who was the wisest confidant who he blessed. Garuda. It was then that his until then lack of interest to take a corporeal form sparked into genuine want that the shattered remnants of his entered al-Háitham, he would become from then on his own oasis. From the small god he found familiarity that he couldn't be so bold as to make any judgements yet: as a god that descended from the island of the sky, he was not subjected to Irminsul's power of memory erasure. He found in Nahida a familiarity that he could only find in Rhukkadevata, but he would patiently wait to make his own discoveries.
Since that incident onwards al-Háitham has been feeling strange, finding himself knowledgeable on matters that he wasn't until that moment. Finding interest in certain things that before hadn't crossed his mind before, such as the pursuit of the Eternal Oasis, the exploration of what had occurred to the Goddess of Flowers and a newfound suspicion in Nahida that she is more than what it seems. Though King Deshret is inside him despite his own ignorance on the matter (while suspicions that something has happened to him which he gathered an interest to find out what), his soul and the god's are two separate entities independent from one another. The merging of Amon's remnants in al-Háitham caused a change in him, albeit not the other way around due to his deterioration over time.
It's eventually when al-Háitham takes notices of punctual loss of consciousness and finding himself somewhere else than he previously was that he realizes that he's been invaded by a spirit that must be stronger than him in order to be able to take over his body. And it is with time that both souls come to find one another at a crossroads in his own domain of consciousness, now distorted and mixed with what Amon's used to be like. From there onwards he has a better understanding of what happened to him until then and his initial god's cause of unrest. Too much time has passed for him to feel a strong allegiance to him as he had when he served him, but it is not entirely gone. It is by his own interest in the things that King Deshret wants to find out that he concedes to investigate more than the loyalty to him, as neither the god expects of him being a fallen god as he is.
