Going back to Etrian Odyssey 3 HD to sort of semi start thinking of how to handle the game's routes and characters' class and subclass for each route for that inevitable EO3HD LP, when I noticed that while one can't subclass into an Yggdroid, the portraits can be changed to be one of the other 99% of classes that ARE humanoid upon choosing the Yggdroid class.

I get why they would keep not being able to allow the other classes to have the Yggdroid as the subclass, but on the other hand, with the HD ports existing, I'd just like to imagine that the Yggdrasil Tree is just capable of spewing near-perfect replicas of humans and Seyfried is either okay with it if it means the Yggdroids can blend outside the Deep City, or if he finds it odd that the tree is able to do this and questions why it doesn't do so for all the Yggdroids in the event a Deep One might've fled beyond the Deep City somehow. All while the Beast class in EO2HD is perfectly safe in that no one can become the class nor can the portrait BE changed to any one of the other classes' portraits upon choosing that class.

I dunno, just some late night ramblings and finding it funny that this may or may not be something hilarious to point out in the LP (which will definitely be mentioned, 100% guaranteed), and that it MIGHT (or might not) be something I'm gonna do for a character's story in the LP. Who knows how much of this will last in the final draft of my notes regarding EO3HD.

Welcome to the Compilation Playthrough post of both EOIIHD and EOIIIHD. (I know the picture isn't great, but it will do.)

I did these two first since in summary, they're the easier ones, despite I recently finished EOIIIDS. (tho not this year, all of them done last year, with EOIII around almost christmas, and a Phigros update.)

They are still very fun games overall. Soon I will finish the remastered trilogy, by playing the first game, but I will take a break for now and suffer in another game.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy, despite just mostly no commentary playthrough. I might plan that on first game tho, but we will see. I'm gonna need some storage expand tho.

July 2nd, 2023 - Etrian Odyssey III HD

I had heard good things about this one and I gotta say, it's a decent Etrian Odyssey game. With this one, Atlus made plenty of improvements to how everything worked which makes things feel a bit nicer. Now you can earn EXP from sidequests and missions. Not only that, but one way shortcuts now display a message. Unfortunately, the messages don't tell you that they're one way.

This time around, we don't have geomagnetic poles every few floors. In this game, they're called submagnetic poles and only appear on the first floor of each labyrinth, which aside from the post-game one, only have four floors instead of the usual five. I'm not really surprised because I knew this one did things a bit differently (like EOIV). Once you reach a certain point, you'll go back and forth between two different towns: Armoroad and the drowned city, where you can set a sub-class for the first time ever in the series.

You only have to make it through two stratums. Afterwards, the next three stratums play the second main battle theme instead of waiting until the fourth like before, which makes sense considering how you start the third after finding the deep city. In the original DS version, the battle music in post-game stratum was just the second theme because of a memory issue. Since the modern platforms the remaster is on have more room, the sixth stratum got a new and way more fitting track for battles.

And the soundtrack is one of Etrian Odyssey's best. Overall, I did like my time with this one. The stratums were decent for the most part, but the fifth one gave me a headache with one of its gimmicks. To be honest, I'd say these remasters are definitely the best way to play the DS versions (even though DS touch screen feels nicer). The updated controls work well and the games still feel like Etrian Odyssey. I'd love to see more of the old games get remastered (Untold remakes on 3DS are better though). Looking forward to seeing IV, V, Nexus, getting rereleased and hoping that we'll hear about VI.

I was bored waiting for a meeting to start at work so I made a list of the Etrian Odyssey towns rated by how much I'd enjoy living there.

EO1 (Etria)

Pros:

+ Small town feel

+ Probably has good maple syrup

+ Temperate climate

Cons:

-Tourist Town.

-Leadership are clowns

-Kind of boring

Rating: 5/10

EO2 (High Lagaard)

Pros:

+Cool summers

+Best food in the world

+Most fun to talk to bartender around

+Great views

Cons:

-Blisteringly cold winters

-I hope you like stairs

-I hope erosion isn't a problem.

EO3 (Armoroad)

Pros:

+Tropical Climate

+People are really friendly

+Fun if you like sailing

-Pretty isolated from the rest of the world

EO4 (Tharsis)

+Travel Hub

In honor of Etrian Odyssey 1+2+3 HD have some random half remembered facts and trivia:

All damage was considered elemental in 1 so elemental defense up was busted as hell

Medics where the champion of bashing damage once

Giving a bear a bikini gave them unparalleled defenses

The second strongest adventure of all time is a single ninja with the shadow clone jutsu

Ninjas explode, but only once

Runaway royalty flock to labyrinths with shocking regulatory

An adventuring party can be 5 bears, no once comments on this

Coffins swing faster then swords

You punch things harder on Mars

The only martial arts are DBZ style ki blasts and boxing

Alright, I'm in the last stratum in Etrian Odyssey HD, I'm committed to 100%ing the game before I move onto Etrian Odyssey 2 HD (which I'm very much looking forward too) but I gotta say, the maps for Claret Hollows sucks so much.

They're just not fun to map or traverse. I'm only in the first 3 floors, but it seems to me they're intentionally trying to make it the most frustrating mapping experience in the game. Hours of, map a single passage then get moved back to the beginning. It's bad.

Look I know there's a good bit of a learning curve and playing on the actual hardware can be kinda challenging with pricing on the secondhand market but like even if you gotta emulate it I IMPLORE you, the reader, to give the Etrian Odyssey series a try.

There's nothing as fun or immersive than making your guild and mapping out a 3d dungeon yourself. Make brand new ocs that fit the world! Make your existing ocs and put them in! Put you and your friends in and pretend you've all been isekai'd! I assure you if you can get past the early adjustment phase you'll have the time of your life!!

Be excited for the HD remasters coming out in June! Especially for 3, which never got a proper remake like the first two did!!!

and with the Elder Dragon defeated, I have completed Etrian Odyssey 3 HD! I’ll do the other two versions of the fight later, or another day, but everything’s basically done here!

Overall, EO3 was a lot of fun. It was enough fun for me to jump straight into doing all 3 runs and the postgame without more than a few days between each run (to be fair I mostly played in Picnic mode for the middle 2 runs). I can see why its one of the most popular EOs.

with that said I will probably not be planning replays of this game for the next several years because of how much I did. I might still hop in to try filling out more sea stuff or finding other conditionals, but that’s about it.

I do have plans for another EO game to post a playthrough about (…again, actually), but I dont know when i’ll start that. Thanks for joining me and the Coverts through the journey👍
