‘‘Looks like Kurt Cobain’’ in relief the band expressed when they saw their new singer (Mazvērsīte, 2018, p 50). Not only did Freimanis look like Cobain at the time, with his bleached hair but their debut album ‘‘Putni’’ (1998) [transl. ‘‘Birds’’] was influenced by Nirvana and Whitesnake. Whilst grunge was mainstream in the United States in the 1990s, it`s influence also extends to Latvia.
In 2004, Freimanis wrote the song ''The War Is Not Over'' and gave it to Latvian beloved musicians Valters Frīdenbergs and Kārlis Būmeisters, known as Valters & Kaža (members of Putnu Balle). The song won the Latvian National selection and represented Latvia in the international Eurovision contest in 2005, held in Kyiv, Ukraine, fisnishing in the 5th position.

XV to XVIII Spanish rythms: Folia
It is a recurring Renaissance musical theme that, in addition to indicating two similar theme pieces, but with very defined characteristics is also used to designate a harmonic-melodic scheme used in hundreds of compositions from the late 15th century onwards. Its origins are in the Iberian Peninsula, from either the Kingdom of Portugal, León, or Valencia, in Spain (though it seems similar composition can be found at the end of the 15th century in Italy too).Taking the folía played specifically in Spain, Lully reduced the rhythm of the dance to suit his and Versailles’ taste, giving it the name folies d'Espagne.

A new song by the Catalan singer Triquell. He just started his career last year by taking part in the talent show Eufòria and is already releasing a bop like this! 🤩
The lyrics talk about being in a boring party and deciding to do something about it to fix it.

Thursday, October 27: Serenity, “Sprouts of Terror”
Serenity was certainly not one of the first progressive power metal bands, but albums like Codex Atlanticus and songs like “Sprouts of Terror” were among the strongest examples of the form.  The riffs were perfectly placed, Georg Neuhauser’s vocals were soaring and precise, and everything fit the template perfectly.  It epitomized prog/power metal almost to a fault, but when it came to this sound there was generally little to no room to add any wrinkles, so aside from being one example out of many this was among the best at what it did.

"I cannot conclude this essay better than by quoting the con- cluding paragraph of Dr. Molnar's remarkable work: As we see, the relation between Hungarian music and the classical period of about 150 years ago can be found in small as well as in great characteristics. This classical period-though the climax of the old polyphony had ceased to be in existence-is the source of Hungarian musical culture. In Bach's works are to be found all the harmonic and rhythmic richness, all the simple, intricate, naive and bold harmonies. Whatever is in existence has come through that period. Hungarians, like all other European nations, drew from this source and through their original creative talents sprung up a national musical genre."
Great essay but... Why this wish to adhere to 'the great masters' when you have your own fantastic musical tradition....
