CORNLEY DOES ANYTHING GOES

anything goes is my favourite musical ever, and i was wondering who would play who if cornley ever put on a production of it! the casting fit so perfectly that i thought i would share my findings with the world (of tumblr). so without any further ado, here is anything goes, goes wrong!

JONATHAN HARRIS as BILLY CROCKER

honestly perfect casting on chris’ part. jonathan definitely has the skills to take on such a major role as the leading man, plus he shares a lot of similarities with billy’s personality! now we just have to hope he can get through those pesky doors…

SANDRA WILKINSON as RENO SWEENEY

sandra is THE girl for this role. she has the star persona, the perfect level of juuust teetering on being too overdramatic, and of course the strength and dedication to take on a role this large. you just know she will work so hard on this role and absolutely perfect it! well, as long as there are no snags in the actual show that is.

MAX BENNETT as LORD EVELYN OAKLEIGH

now, who to cast as the overly smiley guy who is a bit silly and needs to be absolutely enamoured with reno? why not the overly smiley guy who is a bit silly and is absolutely enamoured with the person playing reno! you could not find a role more suited to max bennett if you TRIED.

VANESSA WILCOCK-WYNN-CARROWAY as HOPE HARCOURT

vanessa has the much-needed sweetness that is crucial in a role like hope harcourt! although being nervous at first, she can definitely take on a role of this size, as her more recent roles in play of the week have shown. she has also undertaken roles with an underlying defiance before and this one is no different, definitely a character that suits her skill set! plus, she 100% has the high vocal range suited for this role.

ROBERT GROVE as MOONFACE MARTIN

ohhh robert is going to LOVE this role. the undercover gangster who is pretty crabby but with a soft spot? and he gets to carry a gun and be a humorous role? this will probably be his favourite character that he’s ever played.

ANNIE TWILLOIL as ERMA LATOUR

the fun-loving, flirty, confident female icon? are we describing annie or erma here? this role gives annie the chance to show off and let her true self shine. and, of course, she can flaunt her impressive set of pipes in buddie beware!

DENNIS TYDE as ELISHA WHITNEY

whoever could play the bumbling idiot? well, why not cast: a bumbling idiot! ‘nuff said.

LUCY GROVE as EVANGELINE HARCOURT

they needed a woman to play this role, and it was small enough of a part that they thought maybe lucy would be up for a challenge. with a bit of coaching from robert and sandra on (over)acting, she could play this character perfectly well! fingers crossed she manages to overcome her stage fright! and if not, the character is mostly scared all the time anyways?

CHRIS BEAN as SHIP’S CAPTAIN

an extremely small role for chris for once! but the cast really fit so perfectly, how could he not have them play the characters he gave them! honestly, he is extremely proud of his casting decisions. just sneak in a little multiroling for the remaining characters (or maybe getting some of the stagehands to join in? plus he could always contact francis to play the purser! could he even convince trevor to be henry t dobson?), then find out if they really need a chorus anyways, and this will be his best show yet! and of course if something goes wrong he could always, well, just step in as one of the other characters… nobody knows but he has secretly been learning billy crockers lines……

ANYTHING GOES SYNOPSIS:

Anything Goes is a farce by Cole Porter which first performed in 1934. It is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart. The show features classic golden age songs such as: “Anything Goes”, “You’re The Top”, “Blow Gabriel Blow”, and “I Get A Kick Out Of You”.

STUDIO32 Musical Theatre Company has the pleasure to bring you the all-time classical Cole Porter musical Anything Goes. A fun show with a funny script that is guaranteed to make you laugh, together with great songs and fantastic dance routines. Set in the early 1930’s aboard the ocean liner S.S. American, the story involves nightclub singer turned evangelist Reno Sweeney who is sailing from New York to England and her pal Billy Crocker who has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt. The only problem is, Hope is engaged to be married to someone else. Evangeline Harcourt is Hope’s widowed, overbearing mother who is mainly concerned with money and social status. She married well but not to her one true love. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and is accustomed to the good life. Unfortunately during the Wall Street crash she and her husband lost the majority of their wealth which resulted in him throwing himself out of a window in the stock exchange. Her priority now is to see her daughter Hope married to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh a rich English aristocrat. The character of Evangeline is played by Judith O’Neil (pictured) who has appeared in many productions in the UK and here in Spain.  STUDIO32 are proud and delighted to once again be supporting charities and good causes in the area, including the San Fulgencio Alzheimers Society and the local music school. The show goes on from Wednesday May 29th to Saturday June 1st at the Cardenal Belluga Theatre in San Fulgencio, all performances start at 7:30pm with doors open at 7:00pm. Howdy Folks

So, I completely forgot to post about this, but I got cast in my school’s musical this year! The show is Anything Goes and my role is fairly small, but respectable. I’m playing Evangeline Harcourt, Hope Harcourt’s mom. For anyone who doesn’t know the show, you’ll have no idea who I’m talking about. Just know that I’m very excited, but also really fucking nervous.

To be honest, I wasn’t going to audition. I was feeling really down around the time of auditions. I was slowly lagging behind on schoolwork and, since I’m a Junior, really wanted to maintain the good grades I got during the first marking period. I was severely lacking in confidence, was super stressed, and overall was not myself. So, I didn’t show up to auditions.

The way my school does it there are three days of auditions. The first day is singing, second is dancing, and last is acting. It’s always been a rule that you have to show up all three days to be considered. I didn’t show up to the first two. On the day of the last audition, during theatre class, my teacher confronts me about it as soon as I walk in. Instantly bombarding me with questions, saying that I must show up to the last audition. My friend in that class was also coaxing me to try out. So, for their sake, I told them I’ll think about. My teacher didn’t even want to let me leave when the bell rang because he wanted so desperately to know why I wasn’t going to try out. He literally chased me as I was running trying to get to my next class. It didn’t stop there, though.

I was in my last class, Culinary, when my other teacher showed up looking for me. He’s my chorus teacher and also the director/ music director for the show. He also tries to convince me to show up for the last audition. He tells me there’s a part that he thinks I’ll be perfect for. So, I give in. I go to auditions. Everyone’s shook, but happy, because they thought I gave up. I try out. I get the part. And now...I don’t know?

I was extremely happy and honored that they didn’t care that I didn’t show up to the other auditions, that they just wanted me to be part of the production. But now I’m super nervous. My doubts are still there. I’m still not sure how much I can handle. In the last musical I was only in the ensemble and I didn’t need to memorize lines or much else except dances and songs. Like, there’s always a chance that if I hadn’t tried out I would have regretted it, but it could also be a mistake that I did try out. I feel like maybe it might be too much for me to deal with along with school and decisions about college and such. I don’t want to back out now, but I’m also wondering if I made a mistake.

i’m a superstitious Everything to be quite frank, so yeah

27.) Would you turn down an ensemble role, just because it’s ensemble?

i’ve never auditioned for anything that was like “we’re offering you this role if you choose to accept it”, everything ive dealt with has kinda been “youre accepted no matter what it just depends on what role youve been given”. that being said, i’ve found ensemble roles to sometimes be the more rewarding roles, and they can be so much fun to do

Audition help?

So, I'm going to be auditioning for Evangeline Harcourt in my schools production of Anything Goes, and I'm not sure what to sing? In the audition packet, it says that there's no big singing or dancing besides what the ensemble does. This is great for me, as I'm not very confident in my singing abilities. I am, however, confident with my acting. This is a very comedic role and that's perfect for me. So, I basically need a song that will show off my acting, is in my range (alto), and is good for Evangeline Harcourt. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! 😊
