ryan’s  in  the  bathroom  at  yet  another  gala,  hair  done  and  sporting  more  brand  names  than  a  shopping  mall.  seeing  another  younger  girl  enter,  she  glances  at  her  through  the  mirror.    “  you  look  a  bit  young  to  be  here.  who’s  paying  you  ?  ”

nevaeh was never impulsive. she made good choices, she followed the rules, and she rarely took any risks. so the fact that she had bought a plane ticket and flew to another state to crash her ex boyfriend’s rehearsal dinner was completely out of character; if anyone knew where she was, they’d think she was crazy. the little brunette had turned off her phone at the airport and had yet to turn it back on, instead catching a cab to take her to the venue. it was only when she arrived that she realized she didn’t even have their number anymore, and the only way to talk to him was to walk in and find him. so she did, striding through the lobby and finding him standing at the bar, chatting amicably with someone in a suit beside him. “surprise,” her voice was soft as she reached out, tentatively tapping him on the shoulder, her heart thundering in her chest. @evcrsosweet​

“you never told them we broke up?” knowing brody, red shouldn’t have been surprised at his ability to upend her entire weekend due to his mistake of failing to mentioning that they weren’t together anymore. “when are we leaving?” it would be easier to just pretend they were still dating and ‘break up’ after the trip, hoping she had a little bit of time to pack what she needed before they headed out.

it’s the last thing he’d expected to hear; whether that be because of his own ignorance, or because it really was coming out of the blue was yet to be determined -- but he needs to get to the bottom of it, regardless of how the answer might make him feel. he’d broken down a number of barriers with her, and the idea that it had been all for nought was concerning him to say the least. he’d been so sure of himself and his instincts, to know that he could’ve been wrong about her doesn’t bear thinking about. “why are you over this?” he’s adamant to get a truth out of her; whether it’s minimal, or every single thought that’s consuming her mind right now. he won’t let it go, can’t let it go. “--fine, you’re done with me. i’ll respect that if you respect me enough to tell me why. what was this to you? was it nothing?”

she’d come clean about her little crush weeks ago  — which, apparently wasn’t reciprocated. that was fine. ellis can handle the string of rejection. except, really she can’t. it all comes to a head when the two of them are grabbing drinks in the kitchen while the rest of their friends socialise elsewhere in her apartment. “look  — i uh... i don’t think i can really hang out with you right now. for... a while, maybe.”
