Suddenly, all of my ancestors are behind me.  “ Be still” they say.  Watch and listen, you are the result of thousands.  ~Unknown

Gift 83. Concentric Duality. This is a favorite painting of mine; I’m not sure why. Maybe because it felt audacious to make it, because I made no intellectual justification for the simplicity and boldness of the design, the choice of colors, the wobbly imperfection of the curves. I just made it because I wanted to, owing no explanation to anyone. In fact, I’d like to make a pile more like this, variations on the theme, of different materials and sizes. I’d like to see these everywhere, on the street, on my walls, on clothing and books and rugs. And I’d like for it to mean something along these lines: all change happens in the present moment, and ripples into everything, future and past, world and self. For now, I’ll satisfy myself by putting it up here for you all to see, and hopefully for one of you to claim as your own. . Concentric, gouache and ink on bristol paper, 14x 11”. Yours for the asking (and the cost of shipping if you’re not near enough Chaplin, CT to pick it up. . . . #gouache #abstractart #abstractpainting #contemporaryart #concentric #concentriccircles #rippleeffect #gouachepainting #artshare #audacity #painting #workonpaper #mixedmediaart #gifteconomy #thegift #everydaysacred #giftproject #artmaking #livinginthegift #inspiredbynature #artinspiration #dreamit #circles #pattern #motif #duality #opening https://www.instagram.com/p/CLruqI9HKWE/?igshid=1qfdzr284n1y4

@vanessasagepriestess has programs that really bring you in touch with yourself and the healing process. She doesn’t tell you the definition of what it means to be a priestess or a Tarot card reader. Instead, she guides you with gentle support and meets you where you are. You learn different ways to work with the cards, gaining confidence to trust your own intuition with the readings you do. You will work with being more creative, appreciating nature by going out for walks and understanding what the seasons have to teach you, guided meditations to get in touch with you or spirit guides, and how to receive those messages, understanding what it means to set up healthy boundaries and much more. Read a message from Vanessa below and visit her website to sign up for Tarot School! ~*~ “🌞💙 Be Part of a Loving Community of Fellow Seekers & Give Yourself the Gift of Time to Integrate Your Knowing!⠀ ⠀ What do you see as the benefits of working with the tarot?⠀ When you read for yourself, how do you feel afterwards? ⠀ ⠀ Some of the most frequent answers I get are about a deeper connection with yourself and your truth, a sense of grounding and calmness and more clarity around purpose and courage. ⠀ ⠀ I really think that the times we are in are calling for these very things, which is why I am so excited to bring the Sage Intuitive Tarot School to you. ⠀ ⠀ You can find out more through the link in my profile!” ~*~ #sacred #sacredspace #rituals #everydayrituals #everydaysacred #everydaymagic #magicintheordinary #letyourmagicout #magiceverydamnday #magicmaking #manifestbeingseen #risesisterrise #goddessrising #sacredfeminine #divinefeminine #witchesofig #moongoddess #paganlife #witchesofinstagram #pagansofinstagram #womenscircles #spirituality #intuition #divination #findyourself #innerknowing #reflection #patience #selfhealing #loveyourself https://www.instagram.com/p/BsST5LxA0jr/?igshid=13rqf7vp2ihon

For those of you have been reading my blog for some time, it may interest you to know that I have just started producing a podcast called “The Bed and The Blade.” It’s a podcast that will explore witchcraft, Pagan spirituality, and living life passionately, three things that are incredibly intertwined in my own life. I’m both excited and nervous.

Art Gift 77 : The Baths. This one is a tribute to public works. In the cities of ancient Rome, there were numerous public bathhouses where people came to exercise and lounge and socialize, not to mention bathe. There were saunas and steam rooms and cold water pools for swimming, chambers for relaxation, separate areas for men and women to disrobe and bathe. Water was piped in from nearby streams.Wood fires heated air and water. In modern-day Lybia, in the remains of one such place, there’s a tile mosaic of what we would now refer to as flip-flops, alongside the words, “SALVOM LAVISSE” which means “A bath is good for you.” 8.5 x 5.5” scrap paper collage, yours for the asking (and the cost of shipping if you don’t live close enough to Chaplin, CT to swing by and pick it up.) If you’re new to my feed, there are several more artworks free to whomever wants them in my recent feed, some of them listed in the shop on my site, more headed for the shop soon. . . . #romanbaths #collage #bath #takeabath #abstractart #cutpaper #cutpaperart #thermae #history #publicworks #collageart #gifteconomy #livinginthegift #givingitaway #thegift #honorableharvest #sacredart #artmeditation #artmaking #artproject #giftproject #givingisreceiving #sacredeconomy #giftculture #everydaysacred #everydayart #gifting #contemporaryart #ctartist #ancientrome (at Chaplin, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPmfbdnZ5F/?igshid=m7zq8aeixaqg

Art gifts 72, 73, 74, 75, 76 – Grapes! I made these in rural Indiana, the summer I was 30, in a tiny two-room concrete house, in a row of tiny two-room concrete houses on a wide swath of lawn between soy bean fields. Thanks to my day job in construction, I had the best upper-body strength of my life, I could run a jackhammer, nail gun, screw gun, table saw. I took pride in that, though I began to think for the first time in my life, maybe a desk job wouldn’t be so bad. After work and weekends, a clutch of bored and neglected neighborhood kids attached themselves to me. They "helped" me plant a garden, “played” my musical instruments, watched me prepare meals and begged for scraps of cabbage and apple. They fought over broken and discarded things I intended to throw in the trash. I got them library cards, drove them to get books. They gave me Pokemon cards, because it pained them that I had none. Though they were a handful, though I woke more than once to find D, the most grossly abused and neglected of the lot, standing at my window, watching me sleep, I still cried uncontrollably when, in the aftermath of reporting D’s parents to child protective services, none of them were allowed near me. Instead, they sprawled on our shared lawn, at a distance, shouting the news of their days, while I sat on the stoop shucking corn or sorting beans. D, prohibited from talking to me, communicated in emphatic grunts and gestures. Late nights alone, I drew, and wrote, and played guitar, recommitting myself to nurturing my creative spirit. I still regret moving away from those kids, but art school, and the next chapters of my life, were waiting… Anyway, these grapes were made in that transitional moment, all available for the asking, none of them framed, so they won't be expensive to ship, even if you claim the whole lot. . . , #grapes #stilllife #drawing #worksonpaper #drawingdaily #mixedmediaart #gifteconomy #livinginthegift #givingitaway #thegift #honorableharvest #sacredart #artmeditation #artmaking #artproject #giftproject #givingisreceiving #givingisliving #sacredeconomy #giftculture #everydaysacred #everydayart #gifting #inspiration #memories #dcf https://www.instagram.com/p/CLNYGsAHD7X/?igshid=omdlbe1ov6ee

Art Gift 70! Wow ,I didn’t think I’d get to such a high number this quickly. There will easily be 100 gifts in this project, but not all in frames. For instance, I have several more from this series of grapes I’ll soon offer up, but this is the last of the framed ones, and the only where I bent the color curve away from the true colors of the fruit. Sometimes in life you must stray outside the lines, try something that might not work. That’s what creativity is, really, experimenting. Swimming into risk of failure just to see what there is to discover there. It’s play, really. Making your own path in life is a creative act. Practicing creativity on paper is a great way to build that muscle because not much is at stake. In this case, I changed colors on a whim and found myself immersed in the mysterious mood of very early morning, the quiet and stillness, when everything, including yesterday’s grapes, seems cool and stoney and statuesque, strangely significant, a memorial to yesterday, soon to reanimated by the miracle of a new day. . Grapes 12, mixed media on paper (oil pastel, crayon, and watercolor), 11 x 8.5” plus mat and frame.
