Jodie Comer, Sandra Oh Explain Killing Eve's Shocking Series Finale
Jodie Comer, Sandra Oh Explain Killing Eve’s Shocking Series Finale
Spoilers for the ending of Killing Eve below. So, you know: the antihero dies at the end. In the series finale of killing eveVillanelle, performed with chaotic fervor by jodie eat, met his end in the watery depths of the Thames after executing members of the Twelve aboard the Dixie Queen. But this bittersweet conclusion wasn’t always where the beloved series was headed. In fact, the writers,…

let me say this
the talking of what their romantic relationship means going forward, talking about what they obviously feel for each other and about how they only see each other in their shared future, is more powerful than any kiss. so i’m glad most of the fandom sees that
plus now the kiss(es) we get in s4 will mean that much more

i’m stuck between wanting Villanelle to not change much of her sociopathic ways/personality and wanting her to start becoming more connected to her emotions because of her love for Eve. i’d argue against the latter “woobifying” Villanelle but it’s easy to see how it could be interpreted that way, “the villain gaining ~feelings~ and now the audience empathizes with her!” could go wrong in many ways except... well, this show doesn’t have Villanelle as the antagonist but rather one of the two main leads so that logic doesn’t necessarily apply
then comes the whole issue of Eve. does she go dark? is she capable of going dark? i personally think so, but i know there’s a lot of fans out there that want her to not go completely dark in that she couldn’t and shouldn’t have the same capacity for murder/violence like Villanelle does. so far the show does make it clear that Eve is still fairly normal in terms of violence and death causing trauma to her and her reaction to it is almost always negative. but i somehow believe that s3 is slowly pushing her past the point of it affecting her. obviously not in a healthy or good way, but rather pushing her to a point where she just Accepts™ the violence around her as a norm but the toll it takes on her psyche could be huge
this is where Villanelle comes in. either Villanelle will try to minimize the violence and death around Eve or she’ll try to get her accustomed to it, it could go either way. one way or another, whatever Villanelle does for Eve would be an act of love
then there’s also the interpretation where Eve actually always had the stomach for violence within her but it just needed to somehow be unlocked. and i think that’s also a plausible explanation. there’s the big ol’ titular wordplay of “Killing Eve” in that 1. the literal meaning of Eve is actually being killed (unlikely), or 2. the progression of Eve’s development in which old Eve is “killed” and a new, dark Eve is born leading to 3. “killing” being an adjective instead of a verb so Eve “kills” now (whatever that means, it could be an active act of killing or as a partner in crime to Villanelle, we’ll have to see)
i highly doubt the show will be able to answer all of this in s3 but we’re definitely getting more development for sure

She knows, she knows I've killed so many and here she is in my arms holding me so close as we sway, and I've never felt so seen and accepted and I could wish to have been a better person but in this matter moment it does matter cause Eve Knows Me. - villanelle probably
Villanelle bared her heart out there to the woman she loves despite her fear of possibly being rejected yet again but no, no Eve is like “i love and accept all of you it’s okay” and i jUST
like i’m pretty sure Villanelle was still full of doubt that she could have the one thing she’s been yearning for since they met and Eve was like “you have me”
it’s real feral hours up in here rn
