Madam Z a real one tbh. i think she's human cause she's into theoretical physics, was it? and science is pretty much a human's thing in r1999. AND YET she defended vertin and it's because of her the suitcase party came to be.
she cares a lot for vertin, hence the smoltin saga CAUSE WE SEE IT. Z looks out for the cheeky gremlin whenever she can.
Madam Z and Vertin's relationship gives me life. She genuinely cares about Smoltin! That being said, she's actually an arcanist! You can see this snippet in chapter 4-14 where the Narrator says she's an arcanist yet she managed to sit with human elites:
Tumblr media
But that makes it even more interesting to me! Madam Z is not your typical arcanist. She and Vertin share similarities not just in personality, but also in the way that they fight from the inside.
We've seen Madam Z stick out her neck not only for Vertin, but for Horrorpedia too during the Green Lake event. She went after him because she didn't want him to get punished.
Scientists are usually portrayed as cold, but here we see Madam Z contradicting all the stereotypes! She and Vertin are walking contradictions and perhaps Smoltin picked up on many of her ways.

it killed you to grow up there, in the dark like that, with nothing but the bones of your childhood. they punished every version of you that wasn't a god. forced sainthood into saturdays and now when you're out in the sun, your hands shake. your breathing puffing into cold mornings, alone in your room, wondering how you could be so broken and yet never have anyone notice the break.
in the dream of that house, you sometimes remember meals and silence and long hallways and your hand cramping over your homework. you sometimes remember the yelling or the limegreen falsehood veneer your parents could construct in the presence of guests. mostly you remember the way time seeped through you, dripped onto everything, how the words it'll get better felt like an arrow through your chest.
you would lay in bed and hope for death with the same fantasy air as romance, picturing a glorious coffin. sometimes you'd picture a dramatic end or a tragic illness that would sweep you away. but mostly you pictured some kind of strange miracle; that you'd go to sleep and simply never have to deal with that again.
when you got out, you had to burn the atmosphere to escape. these days you reside on another planet entirely: one bright and full of lights and color and friends and spice and laughter.
and still sometimes when people say summer, you still remember the back deck. you still remember building a castle. you still remember the birds. when you lay yourself down at night - some part of you still whispers about catacombs, and the dark, and the bones.
some version of you is still resting in that tomb, after all. some version of you will always see the outline of that place and say that's where we used to call home.

I love lesbians. I love lesbians who have prescriptions for hormones (any kind). I love lesbians who use pronouns (any kind). I love people of lesbian-adjacent genders and sexualities (any kind). I love lesbians who are into kink and BDSM and leather. I tap my "this is a lesbian pervert blog" sign. Love u, cherish u, get freaky with it

nothing viktor did was more peak engineer behavior than when he so confidently explained evolution wrong except for him confidently explaining evolution wrong while disagreeing with the guy who explained it correctly

maybe maybe a mistake taking astronomy; idk why I thought I'd suddenly be a physics mastermind just bc I have more motivation for it now. It's the first week and I have no actual clue what I'm doing (or more accurately: should be doing. Mostly so far it's been lots of staring and muttering of "what the fuck" in regular intervals)

Though most non-integers are not round numbers, Pi (3.14159etc) is considered round because of circles or something.
I dunno. My back hurts.

Gwen’s text on the computer will never not be funny to me. Do you think that was the moment, they decided she had the exact amount of braincells to join the team?
“They use this stuff they find it and use it but theyc an do whart they want, noone;s in charge of thrmdes NO ONE cos they don’t anbsweerr to anyne” <= fav part.
If I had been Ianto I would have erased everything except that section. Just imagine Gwen’s confused face reading that in the morning. If this doesn’t capture the vibe of writing late at night, I don’t know what does.

So you know how sometimes you do something as a kid or a teenager and you think it's totally normal and then the memory pops into your head as an adult and it suddenly recontextualizes the whole thing? Anyway shout out to my super nice high school math teacher, who also had the misfortune of being A. the first teacher to give me a syllabus that (crucially) included point totals and how grades were calculated B. scored tests as like 75% of the grade and C. allowed us to take tests as a group All those factors combined into two incidents that, in retrospect, he was in no way expecting to deal with but teenage me thought were totally normal (behind a read more because it got long)
The first was when I stopped doing math homework not long into the school year and he stopped me after class to (very kindly, very gently) ask me if I was okay and if everything was okay at home, because I'd stopped doing my homework but he knew I knew the material. I said "I stopped doing the homework because I crossed the threshold on the point totals on the rubric where I no longer need to turn in any homework to get an A." He paused, kinda blinked at me, and said "That only works if you get 100% on every test" I kind of stared back at him in blank incomprehension, and was like "Yes????" "What happens if you don't get 100% on a test?" "Well. I do get 100% on every test, but if I ever miss a question, you offer extra credit questions on every test" He didn't know what to say to that lol The other time was when he announced future tests would be allowed to be worked on in groups of three or four, and I walked up to him after class and said "Any group I am in will be getting 100% on the tests. That is unfair to the other groups, and unfair to the people in my group, who will not get a chance to test their skills because I am not risking my grade on their math abilities. Can I take the tests solo?" Again, teenage me thought this was a perfectly normal, logical thing to do, but looking back as an adult like oh my gosh there is no way my poor math teacher was expecting to have to deal with that. He did let me take math tests solo I tried the "calculate points then stop doing the homework" thing in my English class the next year and it did not work because that teacher had an "extra credit doesn't count if you haven't done all your assignments" policy :(
