Something I like to do with the car I hate is go exploring. Just get off the highway and look for new things I haven’t seen before. It keeps that discovery itch fed. When I only had a bike, I would use it and get on random busses and see where I ended up.

I believe that because someone else has found something doesn’t mean there aren’t things that are personally unknown. You just won’t have some small junction town named after you for being the first not to die of dysentery.

Also, geocaching is great. Even living in a suburban hell with little walking infrastructure, I can find 10 caches within a 5-10 minute walk of my place. You can use smartphone apps now too!

There are lots of ways to explore and gain that wonder of discovery even in the concrete jungles we’ve created for ourselves. It’s all about perspective.

i do wonder if the rise in pseudoscience and conspiracy theories has anything to do with the whole "born too late to explore the earth born too soon to explore the galaxy" thing. like i think a lot of people crave discovery and adventure but all the easy stuff has already been found so they follow the nearest chump willing to convince them that all our current discoveries are lies and atlantis' ruins are just off the coast of florida. and bigfoot sucked my dick last week. trust us this time. we're the new scientists.
