Melancholy/hopeful new year's fic! Missing my GreedFall f/os so here's Leslie and Kurt bonding and talking about Constantin! (Fic is under the cut, divider is by @animatedglittergraphics-n-more! Also warning for discussions of killing someone, not graphic though)

Leslie leans over the counter in her apartment. The makeup feels heavy on her face, and she hates it. Foundation, mostly, covering cuts and scratches on her face. The mark on her face stands out against her skin. Hir jacket is on the floor, revealing scars on hir torso. A massive burn takes up most of hir shoulder, and de Sardet prods at it. She's crushingly aware of the lack of family resemblance between her and her cousin. The cousin that no longer lives. The cousin that ze killed. She rests her head on the counter with a deep sigh.

She hates wearing the makeup. She hates having her hair long. She just wants to be herself. But her uncle (not by blood, a fact which makes her more relieved than she had expected) has expectations of her. She hates it. She's hates everything about her life right now, except for her companions. Especially Kurt, and also Síora, and everyone else. That's why she killed him. Killed Constantin. It always feels like there's blood on hir hands, the familiar sticky feeling that ze has come to loathe. Fuck the Prince d'Orsay, and fuck his stupid expectations.

Knock-knock

"...Greenblood? What are you doing in there?"

Kurt's voice rings out through the door, and Leslie turns to look at the door. She sighs bitterly, and calls for Kurt to come in. He closes the door behind him, and leans against the door. After looking at Leslie for a long moment he questions, "Constantin again?"

Leslie hums in ascent. Then she elaborates, "That, and the way Prince d'Orsay always treated him. And the expectations he had of me. My New Year's resolution is to ignore his expectations."

Kurt snorts at that, and vanishes out the door. Leslie turns back to the mirror on the wall, and scrubs at the makeup on her face. Kurt's back in a moment later, a bucket of water in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other.

"Where do you want to start?"

Leslie brightens at that, and points at the water. Kurt squeezes out a rag, and tosses it to her. She turns back to the mirror, and begins scrubbing her face. The makeup coats the rag, and the scars on her face come to light. She already feels better as Kurt comes up behind her, scissors in his hand. She tugs her hair out of its bun, and closes her eyes. Ze hums, "Chop away."

With each snip of hair, it feels like Leslie's stresses are falling away.

Snip.

"I miss him."

Snip.

"You and me both, Greenblood."

Snip.

"It's... strange, but this does make me feel better. Spiting the Prince d'Orsay like this, I mean."

Snip.

"More power to you for that."

Snip.

"I'm sure Síora will think you look stunning."

Snip.

"Shut up, Captain."

Snip.

"It's done," Kurt remarks. Leslie opens hir eyes, and can't help but grin. Despite that, there's a distinct feeling of melancholy. Ze mumbles, "This feels good... but he would never recognize me, and that hurts."

Kurt settles a hand on her shoulder, and Leslie relaxes into the touch. Ze hums, "Thanks. Happy new year, Kurt."

"Any time. Happy new year, Leslie."
