Fo4 companions + Maxson react to accidentally falling into worm hole and getting sent to the past for a week and end up meeting their younger self. (Danse meeting himself as M7-97)
So this was one super interesting, lol! I had to get a bit creative for some because I didn’t want to leave anyone out + I added Strong and Dogmeat!!
Cait
The moment her former self was in currently, was what Cait then believed was the peak of her life. She felt the strongest she ever was due to her own raw strength and the unmentionable addictions keeping her going at a hundred-percent all of the time. Being loved was a foreign concept and there were no thoughts of ever inheriting a real friend or someone who cared enough to save her. Even if she were to speak to that version of herself, Cait knew she wouldn’t be able to get through to her then. There was really no point of exercising the thought to her that there was good in the world willing to take her in. That was left up to Sole, for she believed only they could ever be the one to get through to her no matter her state.
Synth!Codsworth
“Oh dear, was I always floating about this rusty in the beginning?” The new synthetic-bodied Codsworth stands ashamed of his former self. The robot floated before him with his rusty exterior and only motive to try and rid the world of its new radiated filth.
“Um, did you say I? I do believe you are confused, sir. Perhaps all of this radiation is altering your thought process. My Sir and Mum should be back any minute now and they would love to help you!” The robot version of himself gleamed at the opportunity to help someone in need, not realizing the person before him was actually himself in another time and body. He was also mistaken about the timing of which only part of his family would return to him. The synth decided it wasn’t in his best interest to tell the robot all of this information, as he always remained hopeful.
Curie
The synth looked upon her former robotic self with two strong feelings; one of relief and one of sorrow. She was of course relived to be able to roam free among the world and view it as a human, for which she loved humans very much. However, part of her was longing for the former connections she had while in this state. The scientists she was built up with and the experiments she held while as the robot were dear parts of her past that she held closely to her synthetic-heart. Though with all of the reminiscing, she is able to remind herself of why the change happened and how she can move forward with her new connections and experiments that she also appreciates.
Danse
Danse doesn’t quite understand why he sees the synth with a blank personality, meant to take his own. He doesn’t remember his life before it was stolen, but meeting him, who took his own life. The version of himself now was standing before that same version. “You know you aren’t me.” He is still astonished with the entire thing, hoping this thing doesn’t yet have his personality.
“I am supposed to be Paladin—“
“M7-97.” Danse cuts him off sternly. “That’s who we are… We become Danse with time.” Though still struggling to understand himself after learning of his true identity, he doesn’t allow this to be a setback and instead finds satisfaction in seeing himself as a synth in an earlier stage of creation. It gives him peace knowing that he has the freedom to write his own story now.
Deacon
Deacon absolutely loathed seeing his past self. The younger leaving destruction in his path. He had no desire to speak to him or allow him to know of his future’s presence. Instead he only watched from the shadows intently, forcing himself to endure what he thought he deserved. Watching himself completing ravaging tasks was torture to his new role. He swallowed back all of the hate and anguish for that version of himself until this wormhole was done tormenting him with it.
Dogmeat
Dogmeat is overjoyed seeing himself as a puppy and immediately wants to play! He can’t even remember what it was like being that small, but that doesn’t matter now. He is content with just playing chase with his younger self until they’re both too tired to run any longer.
Gage
Seeing himself before the corruption of being a raider was like a punch to the gut for Gage. He saw optimism and light in his younger eyes, bliss from what he believed was protection then. What was soon to come for him was an awful awakening and the Gage now knew that, so he felt more sad than anything. He assumed anger would have been his first emotion, but he couldn’t bring himself to be angry with the past any longer.
“Things turn out alright for us… eventually, at least. You’ll meet so many shitty people ‘long the way, but one’s gonna come around and change all that.” Gage makes sure to tell his former self about his admiration for the Overboss, no matter their current relationship. He owed his newfound happiness to them.
“Thing’s get serious with this ‘one’?” His former preteen self giggled at the ‘old-man’, teasing at any hints of a relationship of some kind.
Gage chuckles and shakes his head, “They’re alright by us an’ that’s all that matters.”
Hancock
“Yeah, I figured the day’d come.” The smooth-skin John chuckled a his later state. His eyes scanned over the ghoulified version of himself dressed in historical attire, but wearing it with definite swagger. “Say, that brother of ours ever come around? This fight worth it?”
“McDonough’s a lost cause, but the fight’s always worth it. Lot’s a people come around for you because you never lose sight of what’s right.” Hancock smiles as he reminisces on the upbringing of his people. A lot was sacrificed along the way; his skin being part of that recklessness within the upbringing. In his mind everything happened in its place for a reason. He had to be the mortar for his people and for that, he absolutely held no regrets.
MacCready
There’s so many things MacCready thinks to tell his former self, but when it actually comes down to meeting him, he can’t bring himself to relieve the munchkin of knowing the future. Those unchangeable experiences couldn’t be passed through stories, so instead he interacted in the only way his 12-year old self knew.
“Hey butt-muncher, you got cave fungus all over your upper lip.” He chuckles, getting on his own nerves very easily.
“Can it, mungo! This is a mustache!” MacCready can’t help but to laugh at himself. Though he made plenty of bad decisions in his childhood, growing that ‘mustache’ was quite possibly his worst small mistake he ever made.
Maxson
Squire Maxson was quite the sight to the older; having only aged 8 years since then, however appearing to have fought many battles that physically aged him tremendously. The young boy was still in training by his predecessor Sarah, yet untouched by the cruel world. Two years to come for this boy before his entire world changed and he would become the war-machine that he now knows so comfortably. Elder Maxson was struggling to find the words to convey to him former self, knowing nothing would change. He cannot label feelings neither, for that was a difficult task. The younger fears the man before him but not because of appearance but instead his demeanor. There was a darkness that loomed over him and despite only being 12 years old, the younger knew things were not well for himself later in life. “I become Elder…” His voice trembles slightly only then realizing what that means for Sarah. “Oh.”
“I do what’s best for the Brotherhood. I know what’s best.” Maxson says to himself, though it comes out more as if he has to convince himself of that. There were a lot of battles in his life but none bigger than the self-battle he is always going through. He wish things could be different for the young boy, but with the greatest responsibility among his shoulders, nothing could ever change for him.
Nick
Nick’s former self is a prototype synth, factory fresh and one of the first of his kind. As a prototype, his personality still wasn’t fully there as the Institute were attempting to develop prewar people into their synths. Nick realizes he never knew himself as a separate personality then, he has no memories before Nick Valentine. The image before him didn’t feel like him, so he merely watched as the Institute performed more experiments on him. Experiencing this wormhole creates more doubt in his mind as he tries to understand himself as his own Nick of his time.
Piper
The urge to approach her younger self and warn her of upcoming events was very hard to fight for Piper. She knew no matter what there was no changing the past but part of her hoped if she could just spiel enough knowledge to her younger self in this worm-hole, she would be able to break through the wall and change the order of events. Solemnly, she decides to instead nurture the young Piper as she needs.
“How different are things in the future? Is the grass greener? Do we find love? What is Nat like?” Her younger self, full of ambition and curiosity bombards her with several questions.
Piper cringes at the truth and does her best to mask the truth; “Uh, well, things are actually a lot different, but it turns out alright. There’s people there for us and we take care of them too… We’ll be okay.”
Content with this answer, the younger Piper goes back to drawing a portrait of her little family with the newest addition of baby Nat. Piper was only happy the innocence still had a few years before it would be lost.
Preston
In a nightmare-like tone, Preston was sent to himself at his lowest point. Though it wasn’t too far into the past for himself to see noticeable changes in his appearance, he was able to instantly notice the change in demeanor. His past self held no hope for the future or himself, he was lost in all ways and ready to give up. “The good fight is worth all of this sacrifice.” He tells himself. Seeing the future and what it holds definitely brings a twinkle of light to his former self, however he was still at a loss in his current state. “Good people give their all so the Commonwealth can stand for the future generations. You give your all.”
“What other choice do I have? These people are counting are counting on me.” The past Preston chokes back on his words. They come out a lot more confident than he felt in himself at that moment. He knew in his heart it was the right answer, as his fight will always be for the good of the people. Finding the courage was becoming onerous, but he was finally willing to accept the help of those around him to guide him.
Strong
“So this is what I become…” Strong’s former self wasn’t as shocked at the sight of his future as he was now knowing what would eventually happen to the world. “They actually did it, damned us all.”
Strong studies this human timidly, still not fully convinced at one point this was him. He decided to instead lecture himself for being sad about his current state, “HUMAN SHOULD BE HAPPY. HUMAN STRONG AFTER BOMB.”
Human Strong crosses his arms, “Human was strong before. I, er, you worked out a lot before… this. At least you still take pride in your athleticism.” Though the human version of himself was glad that teeny bit of self-sense was still there, he was still deeply distraught at his outcome with life.
X6-88
Depending on the path Sole takes, X6 meeting himself in his early stages of creation could be broken down in two ways;
A) Sole “rescues” X6 from the confinement of the Institute and he lives at a settlement after the Institute is blown up.
—X6 is faced with a version of himself that is no courser to the institute, but merely just a test subject of a synth. This version has plenty of training to endure before he could ever be a courser. While X6 thought he would be disgusted, or even envy the given fresh start, he felt nothing but pity for his former self. “One day you will be freed of the Institute’s reign. Your savior is powerful and compassionate enough to forgive a synth like you for all of the trouble you have caused them.” He tells his younger self, stating fact of what he knows now. However, this version would hear none of it and he knew that.
B) Sole becomes director of the Institute.
—X6 feels nothing when meeting himself in the early stages of creation. He knows from that point to where he is now, things would never change for him. This was his destiny after all; A machine made to serve and kill.

How would the companions react to riding the nuka cola space rollercoaster?
(p.s im so glad your back! Your my favorite fo4 blog)
Companions React to riding the Nuka-Cola Space Rollercoaster (+GAGE)
Once the Nuka World Roller-coaster, finally got electricity and was fixed up. Sole wanted their companion to go with them and try it out. While some of them are fine with it, others aren't.
Cait:
The short answer was NO. No matter how many times Sole asked Cait it was a straight NO. But with a few bottles of beer and a bet of 150 caps from Hancock. Cait strapped herself into the rocket. For the first few seconds Cait was fine but when the machine started moving forward. Suddenly 150 caps weren’t enough but it was too late. And with that, the ride took off taking Cait with it. While Sole was laughing and cheering, Cait was clawing at the machine while screaming. Seeing Cait freak out Sole immediately takes her hand to calm her down. Without hesitation, Cait instantly calmed down followed by a blush. Soon after the ride was over and they arrived at the beginning again, Cait screamed, “One more go!”. It's gonna be a long night.
Curie:
Roller-coaster? This is something that she read about in the lab a long time ago. She always wanted to ride a roller coaster. Some of the scientists that she worked with used to talk about the Nuka World rollercoasters every now and then. Which made her wish she could experience one. But that was all before she got her new body, so she could definitely experience that now. And with that both of them got onto the coaster and shot off past the coaster doors, speeding through the coaster, Curie was so overwhelmed with such happiness. She didn't know what to do, either cry, laugh, or scream. So why not all three. Even though the coaster started only minutes ago it felt like seconds to her. Begging to ride one more time they went off again. After the third time, Sole got off spinning while Curie kept going. She was so happy!
Danse:
Absolutely not. This was a firm no. There was no getting around it. The fact that Sole would even ask a question like that, and the fact he was even entertaining it by answering them was even crazier. But a drunk Danse was completely different. He was faster jumping on the roller coaster than Sole was. Though it was absolutely hilarious to see Danse so excited on the coaster, the one downside was that Danse throw up halfway through the ride which got on the coaster railing. Hopefully, Codsworth could clean it up later. Once the coaster was over Danse wanted to go around again but Sole got him out of the coaster and got him to bed. Geez.
Deacon:
This is an obvious answer YES! There is nothing this man will not do. So the fact that Sole had mentioned it, he was already there. Even before Sole. In fact, Deacon had already ridden the coaster twice by the time Sole had brought it up. And of course, he wouldn't mind going with Sole this time. Jumping into the coaster with Sole the coaster started as soon as they buckled in. The coaster then sped off. With this being Sole's first time they shrieked with wonder and surprise as the lights flashed and the aliens battled. So to not ruin Sole's experience Deacon acted shocked and he also pretended to be surprised. Once the roller coaster ended they both got off happy that they got to experience it together.
Hancock:
HOLY FUCK YES. We all know Hancock was down for absolutely anything. Hoping in the rocket with Sole in between his legs, he took some jet and they were off. Feeling the rush of jet and the adrenaline. Hancock cried tears of joy. He has never felt such a high as this one. But all things must come to an end. So holding a screaming Sole in his arms while the ride came to a close, he got an idea. He wouldn't tell anyone, but this was probably one of the best days ever since he discovered he could make BuffJet. Coming to a stop Sole got out but before they could help Hancock out, he was off again. Leaving a hearty scream and an empty jet canister behind.
MacCready:
ABSOLUTELY! There was no way in hell he was gonna pass up this chance. He strapped in and even before Sole could get in Mac ordered the Mr. Frothy to press go. Shooting off like a rocket all anyone could hear and see was Mac smiling and screaming with his hands in the air. By the time the rollercoaster was over Mac still wasn't ready to get off. He had to go around 5 times before Sole gave up and left. But Mac was none the wiser he just kept asking to go again. Maybe later he will ask Sole to join him.
Valentine:
Well, he wasn't entirely against it but also not entirely for it. He mainly got on just to ease Soles' constant begging and bribing. He gave Piper his hat and sat down next to Sole accepting his fate. Shooting off Sole looked at him with a huge smile. He smiled back but his smile soon turned into a loud scream followed by laughter and then more screaming. He was having fun but this still scared him. Minutes go by of this same emotional cycle. And once it ended Sole smiled brightly and thanked him. Even though he was a little scared at first, it was really fun, and seeing Sole happy made it 10x better.
Piper:
She was a little on the fence but it took very little convincing from Sole to do it. Plus maybe she could put this story in her paper. Maybe something a little positive to give her readers. So she strapped herself in with Sole not too far behind and waited for the ride to start. As if on cue the ride shot off before she could even finish her thought. This was probably the most fun she's had in years. This was such a crazy feeling. She never felt joy and fear at the same exact time before. The pits in her stomach were knots the whole time and she couldn't help but sweat through the palms of her hands. But in the end, it was all worth it, she enjoyed it so much that she might have to bring Nat to try it one day.
Preston:
He was super nervous about it at first. It's not like he has a fear of heights, it's just that he doesn't like being up high that long. The highest he was fine with was the castle wall or even the window at the Museum. So this was a bit of a bigger task he was quite ready for. But with Sole's constant reassurance and their hand on their shoulder, Preston felt okay and ready for anything. Strapping into the coaster with Sole right next to him, he closed his eyes to prepare but before he could even start... BOOM! The coaster shoot right off instantly without hesitation Preston began screaming at the top of his lungs with Sole laughing right next to him. Which felt like seconds to Sole felt like hours for Preston. He didn't stop screaming until the coaster stopped completely. All he could say was never again as he left the coaster.
X6:
There is no shock with this one. NO! There was absolutely no way that X6 was going to sit his ass on that rollercoaster. That was until Sole was made the leader of the Institute and anything they order he had no real choice but to follow. Even though secretly he would have gone but he's a courser he has a reputation to uphold. So with that both Sole and X6 strapped in and enjoyed the ride. While Sole was happy and screaming, X6 kept his face completely straight. Though on the inside he was screaming like a schoolgirl. After the ride Sole got off and walked away, along with everyone else, heading back to the Fizz Top for dinner. X6 stayed and hid until he knew everyone was for sure gone. Once the coast was clear X6 ordered the Mr. Frothy to start up the roller coaster. Jumping back in the coaster went around again and again until he was tired of it. If only Sole knew...
BONUS:
GAGE:
Absolutely the actual fuck not. FUCK NO. There will be nothing that will get Gage on that damn roller coaster. Not unless he had a gun pointed at his head, and even in that case he would still say no. So if that's the case and he feels that way, why the hell is he sitting next to Sole on the coaster waiting for the ride to start. This wasn't how he wanted to spend his night, he just couldn't remember how he got there. And then he remembered CAPS. Mags Black. She had bet him 3,000 caps that he wouldn't ride the coaster and wouldn't scream. So here he was sitting on the coaster with Sole while the other raider bosses stood and watched. Shooting off like a rocket they were off, zooming through the ride, which made it harder and harder to keep his composure. Letting out a small shriek he quickly covered his mouth. Soon coming back into the platform again Mags glanced at Sole and before they could say anything Gage kicked them. Sole waving off Mags and letting her know that Gage won. She tossed Gage the bag of caps and left with a puff. Before Gage got out Sole snatched the caps back with a smile and said "I wasn't gonna say anything about you screaming but since you kicked me, I think I'll keep this." Gage just shrugged and nodded his head. Well, at least he had a little fun.

im feeling angsty.
lets set the scene for this react.
synth shaun one day, as an adult, is killed due to actions caused by the companion. it wasnt directly their fault, but it was because of something they did. brought home the wrong person, made a simple mistake. anything of the sort.
sole is completely broken and rage fueled.
"I gave you everything i had! My home! My heart! My possessions! Everything! And now...i dont even have my family. Get out of my sight."
the last time they see sole is at the funeral. they try to comfort them, but perhaps say the wrong thing at the wrong time. sole angrily leaves without a word.
It was an errant bullet. A one-in-a-million shot. Sole’s companion had aimed at a ghoul, but the bullet ricocheted off the metal beam and stuck right between Shaun’s eyes. He fell to his knees, a flash of recognition across his face, and then he toppled forward. Sole’s scream was drowned out by the ringing of the gunshot. The feral’s agitated howling. And the companion’s own heartbeat.
That was the memory that haunted them for weeks. It was wrong of them to attend Shaun’s funeral. They could tell by Sole’s expression; twisted and flushed and still so angry. But they had to apologize. They had to lift the heavy burden of hatred off Sole’s shoulders.
Cait: “Would ya just listen to my apology, Sole?!” Cait’s voice cracked at the end; a hollow sound that could have swallowed all the grief in the world and never been filled. “I loved that rascal like me own. He didn’t deserve what happened to him, but I fired that shot to keep him safe, not kill him.” She hugged herself against the chilling sting of regret. “Can’t you see that, Sole?”
Codsworth: “I waited 200 years, sir/mum!” Codsworth’s robotic voice rattled around his metallic body before resounding across the graveyard. It was laced with so much grief it made Sole wonder, for the briefest second, if Mr. Handys had physical hearts. And if they could break. “I waited 200 years for you and the young master to return. Why would I take him away from you? Why would I take him away from me?” Something inside him sputtered. Perhaps it really was his heart. “I love you both. So much, Sole. Please don’t leave me again.”
Curie: “Sole, wait!” Curie caught Sole’s wrist and gasped when her friend violently jerked away. Curie felt like she was somehow diseased, and her mere touch was pure poison. “I did not mean to harm young Shaun. Of course you know this, yes? Why won’t you talk to me about it? Why won’t you even let me make it right?” When Sole turned their back, Curie let out a guttural sob that caught them both off guard.
Danse: Danse was no stranger to grief. He had seen fellow soldiers fall in battle. And mourned his own identity after discovering he was a synth. But what Sole was going through was beyond anything he could comprehend. And it was because of his actions. He followed Sole across the graveyard, his pace a respectful distance behind. “There are no words I can say to bring your son back. He was a promising young man, and it’s my fault his story ended there.” Sole still walked ahead, but their legs staggered forward. Their hand wiped feebly at the tears on their cheeks. “Let me make it right, Sole. Tell me what I can do to ease your burden, and I’ll do it.”
Deacon: Deacon had done some horrible things in his life to earn him a nice, warm spot in hell. It was his past that got his wife killed, and his pure stupidity that took down Shaun. He knew whatever he said to Sole would never be enough. Hell, Deacon wasn’t even sure Sole would believe him. But he had to try. “Sole.” Deacon took off his sunglasses, hoping Sole saw the raw remorse in his pale blue eyes. “I can’t even begin to apologize. Maybe all my words are worth bullshit. But please... I just...” He sniveled; a cowardly sound befitting of a lowlife such as himself. “I didn’t mean to kill Shaun. It was an accident. I swear. I...” He had run out of words. Run out of truth. Deacon stared at Sole with a tearful gaze and hoped it was enough.
Hancock: Hancock saw Shaun’s shocked expression every time he closed his eyes. He smelled the blood running down his forehead when he inhaled chems. Felt the splatter across his face when it rained. Hancock couldn’t live the rest of eternity with that memory. He needed Sole to unburden him just as badly as Sole needed the relief themselves. “Sunshine, you know I’d never lay a hand on your boy. Shooting Shaun was an accident. One I’ve gotta live with the rest of my ghoulified life, ya dig?” He took off his hat and pressed it to his heart. “Don’t let Shaun’s ghost haunt the finite time we’ve got left together.”
MacCready: MacCready didn’t blame Sole for shutting him out. He had no idea what he’d have done if it was Duncan on the floor, bullet between his glassy eyes. He wasn’t even sure why he came to Shaun’s funeral, if not to absolve Sole of the guilt. And of himself, if it came to that. “I don’t even know what to say.” MacCready spoke to Sole’s turned back. His hat was clenched in his bloodless hands. “I know you hate me. I’d hate me too, Sole. But please... don’t let this turn you into what I became after losing Lucy. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone I love.”
Preston: Preston had been wracked with grief ever since accidentally killing Shaun. The Minutemen couldn’t get him to leave his quarters, and when he did it was with a bottle of booze in his hands. Preston had never turned to alcohol before, but he needed something to numb the pain. Give him liquid courage to face Sole one last time. When he approached them at Shaun’s funeral, his eyes stung with tears. He smelled of whiskey and the Wastes. “Sole...” Preston only got their name out before sobbing and falling to his knees.
Piper: Piper couldn’t imagine the hardship that would be forgiving Sole if they shot Nat. It was why she didn’t blame them for turning their back on her. Still, Piper had to apologize. She needed Sole to know it was an accident, and she had loved Shaun, and she still loved Sole. “Blue, I get it. I fucked our friendship up. I fucked your life up. But it was an accident. I swear on everything. I swear on Nat that I didn’t mean to hurt him. Please just... look at me.”
Nick: Nick had spent his whole existence saving strangers’ loved ones only to kill the son of his best friend. It was somehow ironic. Bitterly so. He went to Shaun’s funeral to pay respects, but also to apologize. “They don’t make men like your boy, Sole. You raised him well.” He lowered his hat in reverence. In shame. “I’m sorry an old synth like me ended the life of someone so promising.”
X6-88: X6 had felt like he killed Father himself. He had remembered when the original Shaun was a younger man. He’d been full of bright ideas; sometimes so enthusiastic about them that his cheeks flushed and he seemed high on nothing more than inspiration. Now both Shauns were dead, and X6 blamed himself for everything. “My apology isn’t enough. I know that, sir/ma’am.” X6 stood stoic next to Shaun’s grave. Sole wouldn’t meet his sunglasses. “It should have been me. Both times.”

More Obscure Facts About Fallout 4 Companions*
*Now with slightly more unverified psychoanalysis!
X6 gets anxious at the thought of large crowds.
Codsworth likes to imagine being a father to a little robot son. Hang on, buddy, I’m getting my six hundred pounds of scrap metal out of storage.
MacCready seems to have lived in Bigtown for some period of time, or at least visited enough to have memories there. Also, the Lone Wanderer (or one of their companions/Sidney) told him about their encounter with Button Gwinnett.
Despite having little empathy for the people of the Commonwealth, Cait often becomes distressed imagining the victims of the bombs, especially when children are involved.
Danse believes that pre-war healthcare and scientific research should have been publicly owned. He hates corporations in general, especially Vault-Tec.
Nick not only loves poetry, but he’s also able to recite several famous poems such as Ozymandias and The Raven. He’s very sad to see destroyed books at the library.
It’s been confirmed by a non-Deacon source that he spent a month as a ghoul. (Somehow.) NPC dialogue implies that he was telling the truth about disguising himself as a woman for awhile, too.
Apparently Piper was a complete nightmare as a child. She would steal her dad’s pistol, shoot the combat inhibitors off robots, and let them run through town.
There’s some sort of debate in the fandom about whether Curie was originally a Miss Nanny or a Mister Handy, but she confirms in dialogue that she was a Miss Nanny.
Nick can feel pain! :(!
Deacon likes molerats, hates killing them, and wishes he could domesticate them. He should visit Sloan.
A probably incomplete list of things Danse wishes he could do: Fishing, watching a movie, playing/watching baseball, seeing a show at an amphitheater, bowling, shopping
TBH I was wrong on the last post. Preston doesn’t like swimming, his dialogue is tagged as sarcastic there. In my defense, he’s got depression and tends to speak flatly. That means that not one single companion likes to swim, except Strong who doesn’t care.
Despite maintaining there’s a difference between robots and synths, Nick believes in robot rights and often encourages robots not to think of themselves as slaves.

You know what I want from Bethesda? A book strictly dedicated to the Fallout companions. I want to know canon, never before seen details about them that the games don't even acknowledge. I want them to have several pages dedicated to each companion that go into the most obscure factoids about them. What else have they been through besides the depressing stuff? How tall are they? x6-88 occupies a very interesting and very uncomfortable space in the narrative. he doesnt think of himself as a person, and this isnt stupid, its necessary for his sanity. to admit he is a person is to admit that he has been wronged, to admit that the institute is wrong, to admit that he has been wrong to follow their directions, to admit that he has wronged others. if he lets himself think hes a person, that means hes a victim. that is unthinkable to a badass like him. if he thinks hes a slave, that means hes a slavecatcher. that means those he wants to please are slavers, just like the raiders he delights in killing. if he admits that hes scared of being reset (which he is. its why he walks on eggshells around you at first), that means its bad when he sends other synths to be reset. he has wholly bought into not being a person, because that would mean his life's work for the institute is wrong
to look himself in the mirror, he cant afford to be wrong. he cant be a person. he cant be a slave. the institute must. be. right.
