The plight of fictional mothers is something that will always stick out to me. Like either you die for the plot or you are forgotten by it. Fathers are something to be chased after a mystery to be solved. Mothers are a blimp that was once there and is now simply not.
She has no identity outside of mother sometimes barely even a name.

‘She wasn’t a good mother’ great are we evaluating this character trait as one of her many facets or are we just damning her for not being the most maternal womanliest woman who ever womaned

Why are intelligent female characters always labeled
“Manipulative,” “Conniving,” “Calculating,” “Deceptive”
Instead of
“Strategic,” “Tactful,” “Cunning,” “Persuasive”
Yes this is about Mel Medarda. Mel is a brilliant, socially adept woman who carefully thinks through her actions. Why are her talents so often portrayed negatively, when they CAN and ARE used for good?
- She uses her social skills to get information from Lest, to protect the city from her mother.
- She uses her influence to prevent Piltover from using hextech weapons against Zaun.
- She uses her eloquence to convince the council to seek a diplomatic solution and avoid triggering war.
- She strategically investigates her mother’s plans so she can counteract them.
I guarantee if Mel was a man, more people would be admiring her genius instead of antagonizing her for it.
Will make a longer post/rant on this cause the double standards in this fandom are something else.

I’ll say it once, and I’ll say it again - Fanon Tim Drake is just Canon Barbara Gordon, and the only reason she’s not as well loved or well characterized as Tim in fandom spaces is because she’s a woman.

incels trolling the marvels and trying to be objective with “the plot is bad”, DUDE, you’re watching marvel movies where captain america tried to choke a robot and iron man tried to fix ai apocalypse with another ai and hulk can only turn green when hes man paining and thor caused war just because his own stupidity and old man hawkeye can’t deal with grief so turn into a killer for hire
BUT YOU ARE TELLING ME WOMEN SAVING THE UNIVERSE IS BAD?????????
your misogyny is fucking showing

It’s the day after Christmas so I’ll say something controversial now
If Charlie were a male character the entire fandom would be obsessed with her, and if Blitzø were a female character the fandom would absolutely despise him

hi friends! big rant incoming— i want to clarify this isnt targeted at anyone, im just noticing a pattern and im getting a little upset with some of the requests im being sent ):
something that really bothers me is the babyfication of giyuu tomioka. the fandom infantilizes the dude way too much. and its even worse when you throw shinobu into the mix and have her being a maternal figure to him when she herself is an eighteen year old who has worked as a hashira since she was a teenager. she does not need to be put into these situations where she’s taking care of her older peers all the time
i see this happen a lot and i feel its rooted in misogyny whether people recognize it or not. almost always the male characters are thrown into positions where the female character has to take care of them and its really frustrating
shinobu isnt a maternal character at all. to inosuke and the younger ones, it’s different, but if i keep seeing her being a mom to giyuu im actually going to lose my mind. giyuu isnt some uwu depressed baby who cant stand up for himself. he is just as mean as sanemi and obanai. he trained to survive and operate in horrible situations and fight for his life for years. hes a grown man and a hashira. he would not be babied by anyone, especially not someone who he has known since she was around fourteen years old
you may say “well ghostbite dont you do this with mitsuri and obanai”… sure. perhaps i am a hypocrite. but you must remember mitsuri is just sort of like that. she loves cute things and she loves fawning over everyone and everything. her scenes with nezuko. her introduction scene in the hashira meeting with her gushing over everyone. she hand feeds tanjiro pancakes in the recent season. she refers to people as “cutie.” etc etc etc
the difference with obanai and giyuu is obanai is often characterized as a yandere simp who is a huge bully to giyuu and tanjiro. he’s not. i like to put him in deaging situations a lot because unlike everyone else, he’s been through hell since birth. he’s never, not once, had a moment of peace. he had no siblings growing up to protect him— he had no loving parents, etc. he never felt love and he believes he is undeserving of it and should never reciprocate it. so here comes mitsuri, the epitome of love. he takes care of her. he watches after her. he is devoted to her. if something happens to him, especially if it’s a situation where he’s much smaller and weaker and in need of care, mitsuri would drop everything to help him. if it were mitsuri, obanai would do the same for her. it’s in both of their characters to do this. them being in these situations makes sense
i love shinobu. she would not. she does what a doctor does, looks for a cure, checks in here and there, and leaves it at that. she is not giyuu’s “mama.” she is an eighteen year old girl who has her own bucketload of issues. if you need her in a maternal role then use inosuke or literally any of the butterfly girls— the kids she actually takes in and takes care of. not her 21 year old coworker who is more than capable
if anything i think shinobu should be put in deaging situations. have giyuu take care of her instead. mix it up a little. but people are so attached to the idea of having every single caregiver role go to the woman that it’s unlikely we’ll see that
this is not a criticism on giyuu. i love giyuu. but i need people to stop treating him like a defenseless baby, and for people to quit seeing shinobu as responsible for him as a caregiver or a mother
tdlr: please stop asking me to draw or write deaged giyuu stuff. someone else can do that. i dont like deaged giyuu. tiny 21 trio is essentially on hold because of this ): i keep getting nonstop requests for deaged giyuu and im so tired, especially because people are framing it in a “you should replace obanai with giyuu” lens, or adding “mama shinobu doing x with baby giyuu”
it’s tiresome and frustrating. i love to make content for you guys, and i love when its something that appeals to you in a comforting way, but if you want specific content with giyuu— you’re very much in the wrong place. i hate the fandomification of him and shinobu— it makes me uncomfy and sad.
other people are deaging giyuu and putting him in situations— go ask them instead of me. i would rather highlight misunderstood and underrated characters like obanai and gyomei or my own personal faves (muichiro) then constantly loop the same exact character over and over again
all this to say im doubling down on the babybu and babynai and pintsized pillars aus. if you keep asking for baby giyuu and maternal figure shinobu my spite makes me stronger. hashtag let shinobu be taken care of for once. she’s already the doctor for an entire organization give my girl a break

I Have Things to Say
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is going to be critical of the results of this poll. Don't like. Don't read).
I am forgot to comment on the results of this poll. But honestly, I knew who was going to win.
Despite them being a father-daughter duo. And of course, Lucifer showing up in only two episodes while Charlie is the main character...Lucifer is the favorite.
Let's be honest guys these two a literal copy and paste personality wise. And I have noticed that when writers or artists or literally anyone writes Lucifer as a whiner (especially about Lilith or depression). He is painted as pitiful and someone to be cared for.
Charlie has depression as well and has gone through a lot, people portray her as whiny brat. LUCIFER IS A BRAT AS WELL! And plenty of people in this fandom paint him as a manchild. Which is seen as cute. If Charlie did the same, it would be seen as hysterical and weak.
I've seen plenty of hate about her being needy and a typical whiny main character. Let's be honest if she were a man (AKA literally Lucifer. He's a copy and paste. SHE IS THE ORIGNIAL in writing at least) she would be loved much more. She'd be everyone's little fuckboy like Lucifer has turned out to be.
And do not get me started on Chaggie. I've seen too many people underappreciate that ship and call it boring. It's a stable cute relationship between two women. If it was two men, they would be frothing at the mouth and fawning over it.
Yet another example is Charlastor. If she were a man in that relationship people would grow crazy. Such as the case with R/adioapple which screams toxic yaoi. But oh no, if Charlastor is a bit toxic there's a power dynamic with Al being in power and Charlie is naive.
No, Charlie is not naive. She knows who Alastor is. SHE LIVES IN HELL! She's two hundred years old. Give her some credit for crying out loud. I've met plenty of people that are bubbly and optimistic yet have wisdom. Not everyone has to be cynical to be wise and I've met plenty of cynical people who are ignorant.
I am not targeting anyone specifically nor am I bashing. I love R/adioapple and I love Lucifer. I love really all the ships really. I am simply observing behaviors in this fandom. I find it to be both disturbing and fascinating to see the double standards.
(I got a little sidetracked about the ships. I have just seen a strange almost fetishization of mlm ships. I mostly judge ships based onthe chemistry and quality. the sexuality of the ship does not matter to me).
(Also no I am not telling you what character or ship to like. I am just saying it is interesting to see what people are drawn to and the underlying conscious).

Maybe it's just me and I just don't understand the arc. Or maybe this arc will get some grand conclusion I'm really starting to doubt. But like I'm sick and tired of Tashigi being used as Zoro's misogyny proxy. Like the "a woman swordsman could never beat a man" belief and trauma made sense for both Kuina and Tashigi and was a very valid fear way back in the East Blue when they were still fighting relatively normal people and had no scope of how big the world is
but at this point where there are literally 20 feet tall dudes and people can blow up a whole city with just Haki the only reason Tashigi is still weak is because she is being written that way. Which is really hard to understand because it seems now more than ever One Piece has been getting more and more strong female characters so I don't know why every time Tashigi is on screen with Zoro we have to rehash this. It's even worse cause all she does in the scene is prove Zoro right by getting in a fight that she can't handle and needing saving. It's such a confusing message and honestly doesn't really apply or come up anywhere but with Tashigi and Zoro (outside of that one time where Zoro yells at enel for blasting Robin because she's a woman which was weird because Robin's been in a lot of fights before but seemed there just so enel could point out just how ruthless it is.)
Hell with the exception of the G5 all being in love with her. She is treated like a regular character and not just "the woman"
It honestly feels like both Tashigi and Smoker got lost in the narrative and Oda just doesn't know where to put their arcs. It feels like she was being written to help Zoro overcome whatever mental block Kuina's death instilled in him about facing female opponents with his sword. But she is just sooooo far behind him it renders the point moot and strengthens his convictions (it's weird that he will literally crush a woman's face rather than use his sword and is the only reason I won't say he doesn't fight women he does he just seems to have a mental block about cutting them down especially if they fight with anything blade like) but also we've only ever seen him face female character he knows can't challenge him it would have been interesting to see what he'd do in a fight against someone like big mom, tsuru or smoothie doubt that will happen though. But here's to hoping for Tashigi to have an actual arc.

I think tumblr doesn’t understand misogyny. I saw a post claiming it’s misogyny that mlm is more popular than wlw in fanworks — which?? No? It’s not THEIR problem y’all keep harassing people instead of writing and drawing. If y’all actually got together and did shit, maybe authors would trust you to keep their series going like fujos do.
The concept that the bisexual women writing mlm fanfics on ao3 actually hate women is almost as sad as the idea the transmascs making transmascs hcs are secretly trans misogynistic. NO YOU ARE. You’re the misogynistics screaming at them for having fun in a way you don’t like, attempting to control them.
And you know these people harass toxic yuri for being too problematic. They’re also just obvious homophobes towards gay men ships.
What's frustrating is there is so much genuine misogyny in lots of fandom spaces, particularly for media that people still consider "for guys". If you want to handle the misogyny in fandom, look into the treatment of the fans not the fictional characters.
You're completely right, if you want more wlw fiction and ships, write them! Edit them! Support media with canon sapphic rep!
I'll admit, with mainstream media, there does seem to be this trend of mlm media being pushed because it appeals to girls, whereas wlw media is not so well pushed or cancelled. But that is not a fault in fandoms so much.
And that kind of issue isn't applicable to fan works when if you want to see more wlw ships, you can create them yourself, or even commission fanart!

A lot of hate for kanao is straight up misogyny because the way she is treated as some pick me due to her acting the way she does due to child abuse she went through while a character like giyuu who acts almost the same is always treated like some baby and people always add some made up shit like him being abused as a child or him doing self harm for some reason

questions to ask yourself when critiquing a female character:
1. is she boring, or are you saying that because she’s a girl?
2. is she annoying, or are you saying that because she’s a girl?
3. is she a bully/overly aggressive, or are you saying that because she’s a girl?
4. is she a crybaby/overly sensitive, or are you saying that because she’s a girl?
5. would you like or even tolerate this character more than you do if she was a boy?
