Note
You know those bird plushies that are designed to look somewhat realistic, and when you speeze them, they play a recording of their call? (I had a downy woodpecker, cedar waxwing, and blue bird ones, I think, growing up) do you know if there are any of pigeons? Ideally the rock dove, but if you can't find that, then like. Other species are fine like the mourning dove or bandtailed pigeon or wood pigeon or some sort of ringneck dove or turtle dove, etc. (Theres a LOT of pigeons)
H!! So sorry for the late reply. There is a pigeon! it’s been discontinued but it pops up on ebay every once in a while. here’s a listing that’s currently active! the seller has great reviews and is apparently an authorized seller of wild republic.
they also have made a mourning dove and a turtle dove too!

(no pic of the turtle dove this is just the rock dove and mourning dove) hope this helps!!

and so my next super-fancy caterpillar is...
hmmm...
...not a caterpillar?
Turns out this is an abnormal growth condition in plants called fasciation. In which a normally cylindrical structure deforms into a crest-shape. Here it is affecting a rosebay willowherb flower.

BOTD: Fasciated Antshrike
Tumblr media
Photo: Ad Konings
"Antshrikes have proportionally large, flat heads and large, hooked bills, and they often cock their tails down. Fasciated Antshrike is widespread through Central and South America. Most often seen in pairs, and often moves higher than other antshrike species, at middle levels or even the canopy of thick edges and tangles. Can be difficult to get a clear view. Listen for series of mournful rising whistled notes."

you are the main character in a self-fellating avant garde psychological horror film.
notes:
the film is about You. it can feature whatever scenes or tropes or moments you want, even drawing from other genres, but ultimately this is a self-important exploration of You. don’t forget that.
when i say self-fellating i mean that it is simultaneously highly indulgent and self important about that indulgence. this film will be about everything you want it to be and it will act like it’s the best shit ever. whether or not it actually is the best shit ever or a horrible flop is up to you.
no you can’t pick anything other than these options. art through adversity baby do your best

Seems like this crested one was some kind of variegated aeonium? It's currently showing a reverted head 👀

hello Frank, could you please invent a new breed of pigeon? I would apreciate it very much
Sure. They'll be pigeons that can't fly.

I forget what initially inspired this since it was an older wip, but I remember it being something about the beauty in genetic mutations. Bicephaly (being two headed) and fasciation are both pretty rare, but pretty cool little quirks of the way nature and life form. It'll probably be up on my etsy eventually, but maybe not till after the holidays.

So I got this fasciated eggplant at the farmers' market, and sent a photo to my mom.
What Mom meant to text back: "How in the world do you peel it, or don't you?"
What Mom's phone AutoCorrupted her text to: "How in the world do you kill it, or don't you?"
I was not aware that eggplants required that processing step...
