When you look back at your writing, what piece of work are you the most proud of, and why?

And, what has surprised you most about your writing, and why?

I think the piece that has made me the most proud that is complete is Return to Me. (And subsequently After You Return.) It took me a while, but I hit all the notes I wanted to hit in that story, both plot wise, but more importantly emotionally. It might not strike that way for everyone, but I feel like it was emotionally charge in the way I wanted it to be.

I think the angst that has managed to sneak out. Especially in places I didn't anticipate it at all. Circles most notably (I still get playful guff about that one) but also No Such Thing. I intended the latter to be angsty... but it has been much more so than I thought it would be. Circles I was so focused on the development of their relationship after the events at the beginning that I kind of... blinded myself to the angst of it I guess? Not sure. But I know I was repeatedly stunned by the emotional responses I got from readers.
