Get to Know Me (Us?)
You’re receiving this information courtesy of @brasideios. Cheers for the tag!
Last Song: Blow Up The Pokies by The Whitlams. I know that this is about a gambling addiction, but our current frame of mind suggests an alternate meaning. Check the chorus:
And I wish I
Wish I knew the right words
To make you feel better
Walk out of this place
And defeat them in your secret battle
Show them you can be your own man again
Favourite Colour: Orange. For the nerds out there, specifically hex code #FF6600
Currently Watching: Most recently, the LoadingReadyRun “Play It Forward” longplay series of Final Fantasy VII.
Last Movie/TV show: So, I host a podcast called Check THIS Out! where guests talk about some piece of media they love, and I review it on the following episode. Most recently, the topic was the Netflix series Fall of the House of Usher. Due to life happening, we’re only 2 episodes deep, but between the hype/interest of hearing about it, and what’s already been shown, I’m in for the long haul.
Spicy/Savoury/Sweet: Savoury. Sweet is nice, but feels like it’s easy to get wrong. And spice is just no bueno to our digestive system.
Relationship Status: Aro/Ace, so nope. Coming for Steve Carell’s title, mostly as a joke.
Current Obsession: Ooh, geez. I don’t know if I have one. Maybe the Final Girl board/card game? It keeps popping up as a recurring thought and desire, but there’s really not a lot of thought that stays in our brain? It’s like static with bursts of clarity.
Last Google Search: Bathing habits of ancient Greeks, Romans, and Mongolians. Because writing (especially fanfic) takes you to the weirdest places for very little practical purpose.
And with that, the great entaggening, as is tradition. But, there’s no pressure to participate, and if you didn’t get a mention, but want to play along too, feel free! @luckyowl21, @kosmosxipo, @pikachugirltits, and @keab42. See ya!

Off the coast of Mauban floats a small island, Cagbalete, which looks ordinary at first glance. However, a great scenery resides underneath its waters, which only reveals at low tide.
Cagbalete Island is one of the pride of Quezon province. It features wide coastlines and an ecologically diverse habitat. The verdant greens serves as a host to unique bird and plant species. Moreover, the waters surrounding it is a home to abundant marine life. Cagbalete is a total package for adventurers and nature-lovers who seek for a tranquil getaway.
If you are planning to see Cagbalete Island one of these days, this guide may help you.
A vast shoreline appears at low tide in Cagbalete
M/B Neneng and M/B Anthony have two daily Mauban-Cagbalete v/v trips. The boat to Cagbalete leaves Mauban every 10:00AM and 03:30PM while the return boat leaves the island every 07:00AM and 01:00PM. Travel time is 45 minutes, and the fare is ₱50 per person.
You can hire a private boat if the schedule is not amenable to your itinerary, or you just need your trip to be solitary. This will cost you or your group ₱1,200 per way. Major resorts in Cagbalete usually offers private boat transfer upon request.
Boat Ride to Cagbalete
The passenger boat will drop you off at Sabang port. From there, some kids will offer to guide you to your resort for a small fee.
Sabang – Cagbalete’s coastal residential area and port
On our case, we hired a carabao pull cart to get to Villa Cleofas. However, I refused to ride it. I just don’t advocate the use of animals for transport.
Island transpo
Villa Cleofas canoe
Villa Noe
Villa Noe is located along the same strip as Villa Cleofas but a little distant. As of their website, Villa Noe collects corkage fees for liquors which is a downside for hard party drinkers. Their cottages are bit pricey too. The room costs ₱4,000 for 10-12 individuals, ₱3,500 for 8-10 pax, ₱3,000 for 6-8 persons, etc. Pitching your own tent will require you to pay ₱200/tent.
If you don not want to cook, you can avail Villa Noe’s food catering at ₱800/person per day. This includes breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner.
To secure your accommodation, visit their site: www.villanoe.com.
Doña Choleng
Doña Choleng offers an equally relaxing stay with a lot of activity offerings. Air-conditioned for 6 persons costs ₱4,500 while the non-A/C of the same capacity is ₱3,500.
For worry-free travel, they offer a food package for only ₱800 per head consisting of 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and 2 snacks per day.
For more info and reservations, see their website (www.cagbaletedonacholeng.com).

What Are Brain Supplements?
Brain pills, otherwise known as nootropics are mixtures of various ingredients that are used to improve your mental function. This includes helping your motivation, memory, ability to focus, improve your cognitive skills, improve your problem solving skills and help eliminate brain fog.
It is very similar to how an athlete would take supplements to help improve various parts of the body. These however, are for your brain! Anyone from college students to high level CEO’s have taken advantage of these powerful supplements to help give them an edge.
Customer Questions
Q: Are Brain Supplements Safe?
A: Yes! However, when it comes to supplements, you always want to check the ingredients. I prefer to choose ones that are made from natural FDA approved ingredients like different herbs that are known to have specific brain improving properties.
Q: How Long Before I See Results?
A: Most brain supplements recommend to take them for 1 to 3 months to start seeing noticiable results.
Q: Who Should Take Brain Supplements?
A: People in any age group, men or women should be able to benefit from these.
Q: Are Brain Supplements Effective?
A: To be completely open and honest, I believe that it all depends on the person taking the pill. Some people notice a huge difference in brain power when taking these on a regular basis. Others report that they have not felt much difference at all. With that said, I believe that even if someone does not actually “feel” any difference, they are still getting beneficial properties and may be just not “feeling” the difference.
Q: Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Brain Supplements?
A: This is actually going to depend on the specific supplement that you decide to take. I would suggest doing research on your chosen pill and looking to see if that specific product has any known side effects.
In general though, the type that are made from natural herbal ingredients should not have side effects.
Q: How Do Brain Supplements Make You Feel?
A: This depends. If you experience “brain fog” or times that you feel forgetful, confused or just have a lack of focus and mental clarity, it should help clear that up. However, it should be mentioned that you may also want to look at things like your diet in order to help your brain fog symptoms as well.
Q: Are Brain Supplements Legal?
A: Yes. Most are completely legal however there are some that would require a doctor’s perscription.
Q: Where Can I Buy Brain Supplements?
A: Just look at the top of this page and click the links! You’ll get the best deals right from the suppliers.
Q: Will These Brain Supplements Improve My Memory?
A: Absolutely. This is actually one of the main reasons why you would choose to use these. If you take a look at my top choice of Brain Pill, you will see that it contains synapsa which is known to help improve your mental performance with memory and recall. It also has Huperzia Serrata for alertness and Phosphatidylserine that helps your short term memory.
Q: If I Stop Taking Brain Supplements, Will My Improvements Go Away?
A: While it would not go away overnight, you may find that your brain function eventually returns to how it originally was before you started taking the supplement.
Q: Can I Take Brain Supplements If I Am Sick?
A: If you are taking supplements that are made from all natural ingredients, you should not have to worry about whether or not to take it while you are sick.

Four State Street Buildings To Become Housing
There’s finally some clarity for a group of last-century office buildings that have been languishing under the weight of leaky roofs and pigeon poop for close to a decade.
The half-block to be redeveloped, as seen in 2011.
The area around the 200 block of South State Street has been the home to an assortment of buildings that were once the workplaces of thousands of productive citizens, before they were scooped up by the feds as a planned expansion of the nearby Federal Center.  While some of the buildings did get used for organizations like the Department of Labor, and as a temporary home for Homeland Security, for the most part they’ve been vacant.
We’ve been following the fate of the buildings since at least 2009. In 2013 we reported on the renovation of 16 West Jackson, 230 South State, and 10 West Jackson:
Renovating all three buildings cost $25 million, and involved a lot of different challenges because each is from a different era. 16 West Jackson needed extra fire protection love because it’s a hundred years old and made from wood. 230 was originally a fantastic art deco department store called Benson & Rickson Company, built in 1937; and 10 West Jackson was The Bond Store, which went up in 1949.
16 West Jackson was once named the city’s ugliest building by the readers of the Chicago Tribune.
Now four neighboring federal buildings are being redeveloped thanks to a deal between the city and CA Ventures.
202 South State: The 1915 Century Building by Holabird & Roche — To become 159 studio and one-bedroom apartments
212 South State: To be demolished and replaced with a 15-story annex to 202 South State
214 South State: To get a facade-ectomy and be replaced by a new two-story building
220 South State: The 1913 Consumers Building by Jenny, Mundie & Jensen — To become 270 micro apartments
The architecture firm behind the half-block redesign is River North’s Antunovich Associates.
Mayor Emanuel Announces Selection of Team to Redevelop Venerable State Street High-Rises
$141 Million Project Will Revitalize Stretch of Marquee Downtown Street and Create Hundreds of Jobs
Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced two venerable State Street office buildings will be redeveloped as part of a $141 million residential and retail project by CA Ventures. Located at 202 and 220 S. State St. and owned by the federal government, the vacant, century-old structures were made available through a Request for Proposals process initiated by the Chicago Department of Planning and Development and the General Services Administration (GSA) this spring. CA Ventures’ plan for their adaptive re-use will enhance the ongoing renaissance of the Loop’s historic shopping corridor.
“The redevelopment of this section of State Street will ensure its future will be even brighter than its storied past,” Mayor Emanuel said. “This project represents a significant investment in Chicago that will generate economic opportunities, revitalize an underused asset and contribute millions of dollars to expand affordable housing in our neighborhoods.”
The approximately 350,000-square-foot project includes a mix of exterior and interior restoration and new construction.
The 22-story Consumers Building, designed by Jenny, Mundie & Jensen and completed in 1913 at 220 S. State, will be rehabilitated as approximately 270 “micro” apartments. The 16-story Century Building, designed by Holabird & Roche and completed in 1915 at 202 S. State, will be rehabilitated and expanded as 159 furnished studio and one-bedroom apartments. The current building at 212 S. State property will be demolished, and a 15-story structure will be built in its place as a connected addition to 202 S. State. The historic features of 214 S. State St. will be also be retained in a newly constructed two-story building on that parcel. Pending zoning approval by City Council, the project is planned to include a Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus payment of $4.38 million and a $5.65 million payment into the city’s Affordable Housing Opportunity Fund. The project will create at least 100 permanent jobs, in addition to 200 temporary construction jobs.
“This transaction provides an important opportunity for GSA to find new uses for properties that are no longer critical to the federal government’s needs. It will make better use of these real estate assets and help the City of Chicago continue to revitalize the State Street corridor,” said John Cooke, acting regional administrator for GSA’s Great Lakes Region.
“Today we are taking an important step toward the transformation of this historic stretch of State Street,” Alderman Brendan Reilly said. “For the past 10 years, I’ve been a strong supporter of the adaptive re-use of historic buildings and I look forward to working with the new owners and local stakeholders to make this re-use project a success.”
CA Ventures’ proposal to acquire the buildings for $10.38 million would involve a simultaneous, three-way transaction involving the GSA and the City of Chicago. The offer price and sale terms, expected to be finalized this summer, require review and approval by the GSA and Chicago City Council.
CA Ventures includes developers J.J. Smith, Keith Giles and Joe Slezak., whose previous historic re-use projects include Chicago’s Old Colony, Gibbons-Steger, Crane and Roosevelt Hotel buildings. Architect for the project is Antunovich Associates.
“The historical significance of the properties at 202-220 South State Street is just one reason we are so excited to be selected to bring new residential options to this vibrant part of Chicago’s South Loop,” said JJ Smith, principal of CA Ventures. “Our firm is uniquely qualified to maintain the character of the neighborhood via this redevelopment. We successfully converted the Old Colony Building into modern apartments and transformed the Gibbons and Steger buildings into the Infinite Apartments just blocks away from the State Street site, both of which have ground floor retail as well. With this latest historic preservation project, we plan to remove and catalogue the storefront and upper-level façade elements of 214 South State Street in hopes of restoring the Art Deco accents for future reinstallation.”
CA Ventures has committed to a diverse hiring plan with a goal of exceeding the City’s participation requirements of 26 percent MBE and 6 percent WBE.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located adjacent to the Dirksen United States Courthouse, the buildings were acquired by the federal government in 2007 as part of a planned federal center expansion that never materialized.

Settled at 1000 meters above sea level, and is sandwiched between Roxas-Matulas and Daguma Mountain Ranges, the municipality of Lake Sebu is unsurprisingly temperate and abundantly vegetated. Springs and rivers from these rolling hills provide continuous water supply to the three important watersheds of the town, namely; Lake Sebu, Lake Lahit, and Lake Seloton.
The home of the indigenous T’Boli, Ubo, Tiruray, and Manobo tribes is also known for its majestic water cascades, mighty rivers, and a mega-diverse ecosystem, prompting the government to develop and promote the town as an eco-tourism and cultural destination.
The lotuses (or loti) are in full bloom in the unsurprisingly calm Lake Sebu
The most sought-after adventure in town is trekking to the seven falls, or taking a zipline ride that hovers over the most breathtaking countryside scenery at a height that is incomprehensible to acrophobes.

Malapascua is one of the smallest inhabited island in the Philippines. It only measures 2.5 by 1 kilometer. Being a cleaning station for thresher sharks and manta rays and a home to diverse coral species, Malapascua became a famous dive site. The island is also a host to multiple white-sand beaches and interesting rock formations.
Malapascua, by the way, floats 6.8 kilometers northeast of Cebu island.
Malapascua’s northern strip, Langub Beach
I’ve been receiving recommendations to see Malapascua since I moved to Cebu. Hence, when I finally got a chance, I boarded a bus off to Maya port, where Malapascua-bound boats are waiting to convey passengers.
The trip was completely random. I decided to visit the island one Friday night, and then I was on the island immediately the morning after that. Like most of my trips, I traveled alone. It’s really hard to drag someone else on random trip, anyway.
In the afternoon, when the sun’s heat no longer pains, children gather on its stunning beachfront to play. They witness such awesome sunset everyday, and for them, it’s just ordinary. But for me, it’s phenomenal. I am always amazed, though I grew in a village facing the sunset.
Always a beautiful sunset
The island is powered with a generator set where most of the consumption go to the hotel operators. The street lights in tourist areas are battery-powered and charged using solar panels on top of each posts. The residential areas are dark at night, it seems that the solar-powered lamp posts did not reach the inner section of the island.
Before the bright sunrise, fishermen cast their nets and rods on the shallow sea. A bounty catch would mean a feast.
If you want to witness the beauty of Malapascua with your own eyes, the guide below may be useful to you.
Kuala Lumpur.
You may also opt to fly to Manila, wherein there are more international flights available, and then transfer to a flight to Cebu.
If you are already within the Philippines, commercial flights to Cebu are also available from Clark, Legazpi, Caticlan (Boracay), Puerto Princesa, Kalibo, Iloilo, Davao, General Santos, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Dumaguete, Pagadian, Siargao, Camiguin, and Butuan.
Ferries, such as TransAsia Shipping Lines, are also available from almost any point within the Visayas, northern Mindanao, southern Luzon, and even Manila.
From Cebu’s North Bus Terminal, hop on a bus (or passenger van) to Maya Port, Daanbantayan. The bus will take you directly to Barangay Maya’s newest seaport. The fare is ₱200.
From Maya port, board a passenger outrigger boat to Malapascua. There is a trip every 30 minutes from 06:00AM to 03:00PM. During peak season, this may extend to 04:30PM. Note that some schedule will be cancelled if the minimum 15 passenger requirement is not met. The fare is ₱100 per way. Students and elderly do have their own respective discounts.
If you are a big group and does not want to wait for other passengers, you can charter a boat for ₱1,500.
Follow the guide in reverse when you return from Malapascua to Cebu City, and then to your onward destination.
If you are coming from Bantayan Island, return to Hagnaya Port, and then hop on a bus to Bogo City. From Bogo bus terminal, transfer to another bus bound for Maya Port.
From Camotes Island, take a ferry to Danao. At the highway just outside Danao Port, hop on a bus to Maya port.
If you are coming from Carnaza Island, hop on an outrigger boat bound for Tapilon, and then take a tricycle or Bus to Maya Port. From there, you can transfer to another boat to Malapascua.
If you are coming from Kinatarcan Island, return to Daanbantayan, and then take a bus to Maya Port.

If you are on a shoestring budget, the following option may fit.
Malapascua Budget Inn
Malapascua budget Inn is TripAdvisor’s number 1 hostel in Malapascua Island. Dorm rooms start at ₱400 per bed while a double room starts at ₱2,000. A/C are available in all room. JR, the hostel owner, is very accommodating and he can organize special trips for you.

Most guests travel to Malapascua to see the thresher sharks and its impressive underwater communities. Almost all premium hotels in Malapascua offers dive tours. They have in-house PADI-certified dive centers manned with competent divers and instructors.
For non-divers, you can do the following:
Island hopping
Island hopping in Malapascua has three stops, namely; Dakit-dakit, Coral Garden, and Japanese Shipwreck.
Dakit-dakit islet is a snorkeling site, however, it seemed that the strongest typhoon that struck the island in 2013 flushed away all the living marine creatures beneath it. There are signs of blooming life though, as the corals and fishes started to return and recover.
Coral Garden offers stunning underwater ecosystem. The area is protected and fishing is banned. Bantay-Dagat personnel regularly patrol the area.
The sunken Japanese ship could give you an eerie feel. Only the frame is visible, though. Fish and corals inhabit the wreck.
A portion of the Japanese shipwreck off the cost of Malapascua
For the 360-degree island hopping tours, you may contact James or Jonas at +63 935 978 5636. Tour fee start at  ₱350/head for a minimum of three in a group.
Kuya Jun, my boatman that time, asked ₱500 for the island tour. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any number to share. You may look for him when you arrive in the island.
You can try cliff jumping if you have the guts. I’ve seen only locals doing the daredevil jump, mostly kids. My boatman discouraged me to because it was low tide and my weight could get me injuries. And so, I listened.
Cliff diving, would you dare?
Sunset Watching
Anticipate a stunning sunset everyday. Standby at Bounty beach and witness how the sun beautifully disappears the horizon, changing the tint of the sky.
Always keep your ears wide open when you happen to sat down with locals. They tell interesting stories and some even have odd insights. Join them when they go fishing, asked questions, and make acquaintance for you to fully understand the island life.
Kalanggaman Island Day Tour
Kalanggaman Island is part of the things you can do in Malapascua, but you can join a day tour to the island off the coast of Palompon, Leyte. Travel time for one way is approximately 3 hours.

As a home to pristine beachfronts, awesome rock formations, and scenic countryside, Pagudpud awes every travelers, first timers or not. The inviting Saud Beach and Blue Lagoon are more than enough to entice you to visit. Likewise, the Kapurpurawan rock formations, the Kabigan Falls, the wind farm in Bangui, and the secrets of past of the neighboring towns are equally intriguing – you will surely find your way to the northernmost municipality of Luzon island.
Paoay Church or with the antiques displayed at Malacañang of the North. You must not skip sand surfing at the Sand Dunes or view the other angles of the martial law years at Marcos Museum and Mausoleum.
Blue Lagoon, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
Now, when you are planning to experience Pagudpud, here’s a travel guide for you. The contents of this article are divided into the following sections:
things to do in the municipality.
The enchanting Kapurpurawan Rock Formations
Plan your travels ahead and cross out the items in the list below on your Pagudpud visit.
Blue Lagoon (Maira-ira Beach) and Hannah’s Zip line—The blue lagoon is more of a cove or bay than a lagoon. It is a host to a long strip of white shoreline named Maira-ira beach. Hovering it is the 1.2-kilometer Hannah’s zip line, famed to be the world’s longest in the “over water” category.
Patapat Viaduct—Patapat Viaduct bridges the highway that connects the provinces of the North. Patapat stands 31 meters and is 1.3 kilometers long. It is an architectural prowess built on a rocky beach.
Saud Beach—Saud beach is popular for its long strip of powdery, white-sand beach and calm and squeaky-clean water fronting it. Yes, Saud Beach is one of the most stunning shorelines in Luzon. Open up your beach umbrella, lay on your tanning bed (sunbed), take a glass of piña colada, and forget about everything else – then your Saud beach experience will be all about relaxation and happiness.
Kapurpurawan Rock Formation—The postcard-perfect Kapurpurawan Rock Formation is the most-photographed spot in Pagudpud. These rocks had been chiseled naturally by strong tidal forces. This monumental calcium carbonate figure glows white under a strong sunlight and turns ivory in a gloomy day. Whatever the weather is, Kapurpurawan will always be a perfect backdrop of your selfies and groupies.
Bangui Windmills—At first, this is just a noble government project. There’s no greener than harvesting wind energy and eventually turning it to electricity. Truly noble, truly renewable. However, the proponents of this project never expected that this wind farm would turn into a major tourist attraction. I know, you also wanted a photo beside these gigantic electricity-generating fans.
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse—Built in 1887 by Martin Pers, the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse stands 20 meters. The octagonal main tower is made of stones and bricks and is topped with bronze dome or copula. It also has a viewing gallery that is surrounded with decorative iron grill railings.
Kabigan Falls—A 1.8 kilometer trek may disappoint some but if you are persistent to see the waterfalls, I assure you that it has more to offer than the photos. You will forget all the efforts once you take a dip to its cold and indulging waters beneath.
Bantay Abot Cave and Timmangtang Rocks—Bantay Abot Cave is not a cave but an opening created by two leaning rocks or hills. The hole was formed from an earthquake that happened decades ago. Just few meters from Bantay Abot is Timmangtang Rock which you may find intriguing and mysterious.
Dos Hermanos Islands—The twin islands of Dos Hermanos protrude from the shallow sea at the end of the Maira-ira beach. Having a photo with them as your backdrop is worth a page on your memory books.
Paoay and Batac—You may include in your things to do the must-visit places in the municipalities south of Laoag. In Paoay, you can go sand surfing; pay a visit to San Agustin Church, a word heritage site; or explore within the corners of Malacañang of the North. You can also get a glimpse of history at Marcos Museum and Mausoleum in the municipality of Batac.
Pagudpud Tour Cycle.
The stunning Kabigan falls
The Pagudpud Tour Cycle costs ₱600 per tour and this is good for 3 persons for one whole day of awesome experience. It is divided into two major tour routes and the stops are as follows:
Pagudpud Tour Cycle – Northbound Tour
Kabigan Falls
Patapat Viaduct
Agua Grande
Patapat Viaduct
Paraiso ni Anton
Timmangtang Rock
Bantay Abot Cave
Blue Lagoon
Dos Hermanos Islands
Pagudpud Tour Cycle – Southbound Tour
Bangui Windmills
Bangui View Deck
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse
If you want to go to Kapurpurawan Rock Formations, you can ask your southbound tour cycle guide/driver to bring you there but this w should be compensated with an extra cost. You may add ₱100 to ₱200 to the standard ₱600 tour fee.
var stg = new Object(); stg.crt="91502583527909";stg.version="1.04"; stg.id=stg.name="adgshp724931882"; stg.width="400px"; stg.height="528px";stg.ReferenceKey="c/xRz2Q0ESAvs7LyBZCyFQ=="; stg.Layout="SquareCalendar"; stg.Language="en-us";stg.Cid="1642239"; stg.Area="572889"; stg.City="720988"; stg.DestinationName="Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines";stg.OverideConf=false; new AgdSherpa(stg).initialize();
A resort near the strip of white beach would be a perfect place to stay in Pagudpud. If you have no plans to frolic around the town, then a staycation near the shore would be the best choice. Nothing beats the sojourn bliss of having your own beachfront sunbed under the shade of palm trees complimented with a glass of your favorite cocktail.

Waking up wrapped in a dawn chill, on a hill that is thousand meters above, overlooking a seemingly natural man-made creation, which size is as colossal as the mountain that holds it is truly remarkable. Reaching it may be a frowner to some, however, you’ll forget all about the difficulties when you finally see Batad Rice Terraces, the most popular among the rice terraces of the Cordilleras.
Batad, along with 4 other rices terraces in Ifugao, are considered as national cultural treasures with great historical significance. These rice terraces (Batad, Bangaan, Hungduan, Mayoyao Central, and Nagacadan) are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
