Starting a new quilt for my friend using a color scheme I don't usually use. This will actually be turned into a quilted laptop case and the fabric folded on top is the inspiration/will be the backing on the other half of the laptop case. This is actually a belated Christmas gift exchange with my friend who is knitting me a hat. She's okay with it being late and I finally have some time to dedicate to working on it
I need to properly photograph these but I have some clear-background miniature quilt stickers I’m adding to my sticker shop soon. I’ve emotionally wrestled with the thought of selling quilts for so long...it’s so difficult to part with a quilt after I’m done. So many hours of labor go into each quilt and I will never get that time back; my fabric is also sourced mostly vintage so some of the patterns will never be recreated...once i finish using a fabric, that’s it! The rainbow quilt above is also made with specific ratios I measured of different dye powder combinations, I didn’t write any of them down so I don’t know how to recreate each color if I wanted to. I personally love using hand-sewing techniques, which are so incredibly slow compared to machine-only. Every quilt I make is truly one-off AND because I have no assets (lol) these are truly so precious and valuable to me, more than anything else. If you’re a quilter/maker/artist you might be able to relate. That being said, my compromise is selling “quilt stickers” so anyone can appreciate the quilts and color combinations for a couple bucks. I’m not sure how robust the quilt market is but if I priced these at an hourly rate of minimum wage or above (which is lowballing and artists shouldn’t do this), I still don’t know who could afford a large quilt? For now, I’d rather keep the quilts I make. Stay tuned for quilt stickers!
some visible mending I did on an old flannel recently! this was fun but took me so long to convince myself to do, Im very happy with how its come out though. The lichens are oak moss, bloodstain lichen, a third thats very common in texas but i forgot the name of, and then some lovely little algae (i love algae in theory but hate it in eutrophication ;v;)
I had to do something extra special for number fifty! I love making koi dogs, and it’s been amazing to see how much everyone else loves them too. Obviously this guy was based on a lionfish (and a lion dog!), but on top of the fancy fins all his markings were actually dyed into the finished surface using silk paints!
This piece is SOLD but I’ll have a bunch of new stuff on my website next friday, 7/26!
