Moth & Birdie's Mother's Day Fic Challenge! 💐

In honor of my very first official Mother’s Day, @ezrasbirdie and I are hosting a Mother’s Day fic challenge! 

Give mom what she really wants this Mother’s Day— her very own Pedro character! Write a fic about moms, motherhood, mommy featuring one or more Pedro boys and post it with #MothandBirdMothersDayChallenge

You don’t have to be a mom to participate! The fic should just include motherhood in some form. 

The rules:

Challenge begins April 12 and ends May 12 (Mother’s Day in America) but time is a construct so feel free to post whenever

No restrictions on content but tag accordingly!!

...I know I'm late, May's over, but I got too sick to do lineart and too focused on this prompt. So now, I will dump all the missing days.

Since I mainly post art here, I choose to do the Fic. Which like usual became way bigger than I first thought, and somehow turned into an early NaNoWriMo... Literally around 52,000 words... There are also prompts Cryptid AU/ Ghost speech/Post-Reveal buried in here. Exploring the idea of Danny's world having crazy spooky spooks haunting the living world.

𝒪𝓃𝒸𝑒 𝒰𝓅𝑜𝓃 𝒜 𝒯𝒾𝓂𝑒…

I’m Bones, and I’m celebrating a huge milestone—10k followers! I am so honored that so many people enjoy my work, and I am so grateful for the friends and relationships I have cultivated here, and what better way to celebrate those things than with a challenge? I think we all know that the sanitized, kid-friendly version of most fairytales are nowhere near their grim, grisly original tellings. For this challenge, I would like to return to those bleak, terrifying roots, and come up with something darkly fantastical! 

For this challenge, I would like to both pay homage to my own roots, and the theme of my blog. Participants will pick one of the following 10 fairytales (or, to be fancy, you can use the spinner I made!) and then turn out the lights. This is a dark challenge, and, more than their originals, your entries should have a dark twist. Use your imaginations! Maybe Cinderella doesn’t get what she hoped for in her Prince Charming, or perhaps the story of Rapunzel that we know is not how things truly happened—it’s up to you! But your story must be dark—whether that is explicit, or revealed slowly through the events of your story, is, again, completely up to you! You can use the Roster of Accepted Characters to choose your fighter (lol)! Now, onto the rules!

18+ ONLY. This is a dark challenge, and while smut is not a requirement, I think the general subject matter, as well as the themes, will be inappropriate for minors. Smut is not necessary, but it is encouraged. 😏

Challenge opens 4/01/23, and will continue until the end of summer! September 1st! end on my birthday! 06/09/23! (The first of April to the ninth of June for my folks who do D/M/Y instead of M/D/Y lol)

YOUR WORK MUST MEET THE CHALLENGE BRIEF. If your work does not meet the challenge brief (A DARK retelling of a classic fairytale) I will not be reblogging it, and it will not be included in the challenge masterlist. I will not be making exceptions ❤️

You must place your work under a cut at 350 words. 

There is a 10k word limit. Go crazy!

You ARE allowed to use fairytales not included on this list, please just let me know in my inbox! 

Tag and warn appropriately. It is exceedingly important that we tag and warn our works to best of our ability, so that readers know what they are getting into. (Obviously don’t tag to the point where you spoil your plot, but, you know. Use your best judgement.)

Please, no: DD/LG, RPF, Toilet-play, Bestiality (but monsterfucking is a-okay), and no minors in sexual situations.

This must be new and original work. You may not submit previously written work, or work written for other challenges. It’s fine if this is part of a pre-existing series, but this specific piece must be a stand-alone, able to be read and understood without reading any previous work.

Three entries per person. You can submit three separate entries, or a mini-series with three chapters, but each piece must be beneath the 10k word limit.

Please use the roster to select an MMC. It’s okay if you want to use a character who isn’t listed, but please just check in to make sure it’s a fandom I’m actually into 😅

We are all working underneath the same constraints. It is not plagiarism for another author to use the same fairytale, or similar tropes as you. I will not tolerate false accusations, and will block anyone who makes them. 

Have fun! This rule is non-negotiable. If this challenge is not sparking joy, it’s okay to sit it out, there will be more!

We're back for 2024!

Teen Wolf AU Fest is an open collection prompt fest that will take place over five weeks, starting in the first week of May.

This fest will be similar to fests like Flufftober or Kinktober in that anyone can participate as little or as much as they want. Instead of daily prompts, however, there will be two weekly prompts to choose from. For 2024, these prompts will be beings and places. We're also introducing bonus prompts for genre.

FAQ

This is a low-key, participate as-you-wish fest. You can create something for all five weeks or just for one.

The prompts will be posted weekly through the Tumblr fest blog (@twaufest). At least one of the weekly prompts should be incorporated in the work.

There will be two prompts per week. You can use one or both of them. There will also be a bonus genre prompt, if you wish to also include that.

You can create one work using just one of the weekly prompts, or create one work with both prompts, or create two works using one prompts for each work.

All ships are welcome (or lack thereof).

All types of transformative fanworks are welcome.

Your work can be shared in the AO3 collection (twaufest24) and/or on Tumblr by tagging @twaufest.

Rules

AU works only. Since this is an AU fest, all works must be AUs. They can be human-AUs, supernatural AUs, or any other type of AU. But they cannot be fully canon or just canon divergent.

Tag your works. Fics must be tagged appropriately. Please tag for major content warnings and other common warnings/triggers.

At least one of the weekly prompts must be used in your work for that week.

Late submissions are accepted while the fest is ongoing. The collection will close a week or two after the fest is over for the year. If I run this fest again next year, I’ll reopen the collection at that time.

If you are participating as a reader, please practice good fandom etiquette. If you don’t like a work or a particular ship, don’t read it or use the back button. All TW ships and all types of transformative fandom works are welcome.

Thanks to those who voted in the interest check, HP Flowers is a go for this year! Hooray! Your support and enthusiasm for this challenge is much appreciated, so get ready for another awesome round of flowers and plants! The Spring Round runs from May 1 - May 31, 2024. As a refresher, this open prompt challenge is inspired by floriography, the language of flowers (and plants) and encourages creators to use text and photo prompts to make fic, art and more. General challenge info and timeline are very similar to last year, so please be sure to read the Guidelines and FAQ thoroughly, whether you're a returning participant or you're trying the challenge for the first time. Klaine Advent Poll Time!

Hi there Klaine Adventers! (adventees? adventesers?)

We've been kicking around thoughts about the Klaine Advent, (should we still do it, should it still be the Advent, what should it be instead, etc...), and thought we'd use tumblr's handy poll function to get some feedback before making any decisions.

The poll will be open for one week and we'd really love your response, your signal boost, your favorite recipes, etc. What we really want to know is if YOU (yes you) will participate in any of the suggested options (or some other option). I know everyone loves the Advent (so do we!), but for the past few years it's been seriously dwindling in participation, and even though the first week sees an enthusiastic bunch of fic, by December 23 it's not quite so active.

So, if you want to participate in an Advent-like challenge for December 2023, please participate in this poll!! I urge you to pass on any messeges or thoughts about this in the tags, please go wild!

I do want to say that we will definitely be doing something for this year, but it's possible that this may be the last one, and if that's going to be the case I want everyone to know far in advance.

The Lord of the Rings Secret Santa 2023 prompt meme signups are OPEN!

So, it's that time of the year again: time to sign up for the Lord of the Rings Secret Santa exchange! Slash, femslash, het and gen; you can request it all, so why not join in?

2023 is a year of special magnificence for this exchange, as it has now been going for TWENTY years! We'd love to see you join us for this anniversary.

Lord of the Rings Secret Santa has been a traditional exchange since its inception, but we continue to adapt and refine the exchange to best serve all participants. The exchange has been in the form of a prompt meme since 2020.

The Waiting (Room)

​Steve waits in the hospital waiting room for news about Eddie.

Eddie’s blood is caked under his nails. 

Worse, someone passes by the waiting room with a cake that’s decorated in blue icing. The sight makes Steve feel sick.  

He forces himself to breathe the stale hospital air, a reminder he’s not in the Upside Down anymore. Still, his breaths feel too close to suffocating and there’s acid in his throat.

Images of Eddie’s bloody curls, carrying Eddie’s limp, mangled body, and the sound of Eddie’s rattling breaths are still etched like cursed hieroglyphs into Steve’s mind. Steve is tempted to tear out his own brain to forcibly erase the memories from his head. 

Is there a surgery for that?

He hunches over. 

There’s still wet blood on his shirt that hasn’t dried. 

He can almost taste its bitter, metallic scent.

Steve feels like he’s lived eight lifetimes in this waiting room. His chest is a knot, his fists are clenched and his nails dig into his palms. He presses them harder, wanting the half-moon shapes to break skin.

This is all too much. 

“Steve, breathe.”

Robin’s voice.

It’s far away but she’s next to him, holding his shoulder and squeezing it hard.

He pulls a breath in. It feels like choking. 

“You looked like you were going to pass out,” Robin worries. “Eddie’s gunna be okay.”

Steve doesn’t say anything, doesn’t look at her. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. 

Had they not seen the same body? The same injuries? Heard the same struggling breaths?

He ignores her.

“It’s a miracle he made it here. Best place he can be,” Robin tries.

Steve says nothing. 

It won't be a miracle, not if Eddie’s dead. 

When the doors suddenly open and call for Munson, Wayne rises first, with Steve behind him.

Surgery. Successful. Waiting. Wake up.

He only catches words, but it’s a miracle after all. 

Steve falls to his knees.

Spelljammer Fic Challenge

Have you ever thought about sending your Tav and Astarion to the Astral Plane? A sea of stars, full of cruel wonders and cosmic dreads?

We are inviting all of our fellow artists and ficwriters to create fanworks based on Spelljammer, D&D adventure set in Wildspace.

Rules You need to post your fanwork on Tumblr or AO3 with with a tag #Spelljammer Challenge not later than 12th of April. All fics on AO3 will be put into the the collection. You can write about anything but it must be set in the Spelljammer setting. Maybe your characters followed the Githyanki post-game, or your quest to let Astarion walk in the sunlight lead you to the Astral Sea? Or your Tav is an Astral Elf and native to that place? Our journeys this year have taken us from destroyed pyramids ships to the depths of Titan’s oceans to the far reaches of Savathûn’s throne world- and they promise to take us beyond reality itself.  As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look back on everywhere we’ve been, and everywhere we have yet to go.  Our chronicle is a long one, but there are blank pages still, and stories yet to be written.

Destcember is a drawing and writing challenge based on the Destiny universe. This year our recollections have revealed 31 prompts (one for each day of December) but remember: we make our own stories. I've finally made some silhouette art for Sterek AND I wrote a ficlet to go with it! The Camaro AND the Jeep also make appearances, because of course they do. ;P I thought I'd tap into something a little different from the usual, since a. May has been a cray roller coaster of unknowns and feels, b. time has been limited and trying to work on creative work has been an interesting challenge, and c. any major WIP projects are for secret or anon events, so I sadly can't say much about them right now.
