I owe Dave Filoni an apology
Every time I've talked about things I don't like about his story writing, the zillo beast plot hole is one of my main talking points. 馃ぃ

Clone fancast
So we're not likely to get a Clone Wars live action remake.
But if we did...
I broke @amorfista by suggesting Beulah Koale.

I've watched the last episode of Ahsoka...
What can I say ? I'm bitter. Seriously bitter.
Filoni, as usual, has only taken what he wanted from the universe.
He has only kept some aspects of a character to fit his own vision.
But it's such a lack of professionalism.
Disney said everything was canon in the books so everything is canon.
You don't take only what you like.
Long live to the Ascendancy! Let the Empire die!!!!
Let Timothy Zahn cook for you a good screenplay!

Filoni: wow! The scary Dark Jedi are taking Sabine to a mysterious new galaxy where there will be night witches and bedraggled imperial remnants!
Me: oh boy! can鈥檛 wait to see what happens!
Filoni: *smearing Vaseline over the camera lens while a poreless, smooth Hayden Christensen steps into frame* what do you mean

Just taking the clone wars into account I honestly was surprised to learn of Filoni鈥檚 jedi-critical views. In large part I guess it was just that I watched tcw after reading lots of Obi Wan and Anakin centric fanfic, and in comparison the show barely even registered as critical, since it鈥檚 so much milder than like 80% of fanfic was. For one it does something fanfic rarely did, which is treat the council and the larger jedi body as a group of diverse people with differing opinions and constant challenges, and not an almost faceless cold single entity whose narrative function is primarily to cause problems for the protagonist, not to be people in their own right.
And then there was simply the fact that I never took Anakin to be a reliable narrator, especially since he鈥檚 covering up naughty war crimes left and right on the show, and I never really took Ahsoka as a speaker of objective truth either, since she鈥檚 young and still parsing out her teachings and philosophy by show鈥檚 end without ever reaching a conclusion, since her story doesn鈥檛 really have a conclusion, just a series of traumatic breaks. If they were meant to be the mouthpieces, it never even occurred to me.
The other big thing was the war and the clones. See, my feelings about the war in the movies were very mixed up with the political commentary it was making about what was happening in real life, and the result was pretty messy. The condensed narration didn鈥檛 help- yes, there was the through line with the trade federation鈥檚 behavior in Naboo and then their involvement with the Separatists, and the plans they were making that Obi Wan listened in on- but even so, the whole war was off screen, and it was still mixed up in this clunky Iraq war commentary. The movies do also point out more than once that the breakdown of diplomacy was something bad Palpatine did and through him the republic (though I wouldn鈥檛 say it holds the jedi to account for that so much as the Senate). Meanwhile the cartoon just uncategorically depicts the separatists as aggressors who are doing cartoonishly evil things, and the need to defend is inescapable. Even more than that, the clones- the chips really do change everything.
The fact that the jedi led these men for three years and earned absolutely no goodwill or loyalty enough for any of them to even hesitate to shoot them in the back just wasn鈥檛 a great look for either of them. But of course, that鈥檚 not the story anymore. It鈥檚 such a different story. The jedi-clone relationship is now one of my absolute favorite things. It鈥檚 complex and it鈥檚 compelling. Most importantly, it鈥檚 not characterized by indifference.
So, yeah, I hadn鈥檛 clocked that Filoni was actually much closer to the popular fanon on all this. It鈥檚 funny, I got into a conversation with someone recently, one of those people who had earnestly thought the prequels were meant to depict the jedi as arrogant and cold and out of touch, and I mentioned the things Lucas had said on the subject, and they were like- are you telling me Lucas fucked up and accidentally told a different story than the one he intended? But what鈥檚 funny is that I鈥檓 now sitting here thinking the same about the clone wars. Did Filoni accidentally write a much more nuanced and jedi-friendly story than the one he thought he was writing, or was that just me reading him wrong?
Well at any rate, I鈥檓 going to watch the tales of the jedi soooon and I guess I鈥檒l see how that tracks. (though round one at least I might disengage my critical brain and just enjoy)

Seriously, if they make Ezra "serious calm and collected Jedi Master" I'm gonna buy some cowboy hat, pour gasoline on it and set in on fire.
Give me "I'm serious only when situation requires me to be but rest of the time I'm feral piece of shit who annoys everyone around just because" Ezra we all deserve. Stop making all Jedi characters so collected, give us some chaos energy of Rebel-raised force user who's solution to problem "how to defeat military genius with whole fleet" is "space whales".

THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2 OPINIONS
Please discuss in the comments with me! But nicely PLEASE! This is NOT an Ahsoka or Omega bashing post.
Filoni's first Orginal Character was Ahsoka back all those years ago. But he has almost finished his story with her. We see her beginnings, her midlife, and all that's really left to tell is that of post rebels. And maybe a little bit inside TBBS2 in the early empire times.
But I 10000000% believe Filoni wants Omega, his next OC, to be as popular and as greatly recieved by the audience as Ahsoka is.
But it's not working out.
Omega is the focus of EVERYTHING (even at the expense of some of the bad batch members) and it's so clear that Filoni's trying too hard for us to like her that he's forgetting to write a cohesive storyline for the season.
It makes me really miss the Clone Wars 3-4 episode arcs. Even though sometimes those didn't fit together, a good example being Palpatine wanting to clone the Zillo Beast and then we never hear about it again, I still liked the mini story that 4 episodes told.
There's no plot to this new season of TBB so far other than one episode and that one had a cameo. THATS 1 OF 5. On their own the bad batch hasn't really been that memorable. There's just such a lack of connection between Dooku's palace and then Tech racing and then a giant metal robot. And I don't like how they aren't mentioning anything between each episode. You could watch them out of order and it wouldn't make a single difference.
Idk. I understand that today was definitely a filler episode, but I just wish everything connected more to make it more memorable.
Like a story.

To be clear, there I'm interested to see what else you post here, even if I disagree. There are interesting discussions to be had about the different ways Legends and Canon handled specific topics. But I don't think it's true to say that Filoni or other Canon creatives are somehow acting in bad faith.
And we welcome that! We are a discourse blog and i personally tend to provide hot takes. No one is obligated to agree with either of us. In fact, Mod A. has made it a point more than once to mention that he doesnt even fully agree with me on some points (specifically about Filoni) and he's the co-owner of this blog.
Its good to have followers who dont always agree because thats how discussions open up and as long as we all remain civil, then the discourse will be enjoyable for everyone involved. We look forward to further interesting discussions with you and all of our followers 馃榿
