A couple of photos of my October greenhouse! For the anon who was wondering what the aquaponic setup looks like in full view. The wooden structure in the middle is the 1000L fish tank, with the growing towers for aquaponic gardening hanging above it, and water constantly circulating between the two. The plants you see on the left of the 2nd pic are my green beans which are still producing now in December!

Daily fish fact #278
Barreleyes!
They have barrel-shaped tubular eyes, which are enclosed inside their head under a layer of transparent soft tissue! They use their peculiar eyes to look for prey that might be floating directly above them; they live deep underwater just at the edge of where light penetration ends, but thanks to their eyes with a large number of rods (a type of photoreceptor) they can see very well into the waters above.

(feel free to correct me if any of the below information is false! I'm just one guy! I won't be able to edit these posts, but a correction is always appreciated anyways)
Hagfish have a skull and teeth but have no spine or jaw! They turn the water around them into slime, so they're often considered the "grossest fish". They're regular scavengers at whale falls! They tend to tie themselves into knots to tear apart their food and escape predators!
Japanese Spider Crab is the worlds largest crab! Their legs are 12 feet (3.7 meters) from claw to claw! Despite how scary they look to some, they're actually very gentle! You can see them in a livestream run by Monterey Bay Aquarium here!

ok I know y’all probably have heard this before, but PetSmart is incredibly negligent for their care of aquatic pets. Especially Betta Fish.
This is how PetSmart wants you to see them:
A happy, healthy Betta Fish. Well, this is how they look in their stores:
Betta fish need a minimum 3 gallon tank, a heater, filter, plants and hiding places, and to be out of sight of other male bettas. These Bettas being sold are in literal plastic cups. They stay there until they are bought or die. They swim in their own waste, get fungal and bacterial infections, and even self-mutilate due to stress and boredom.
THIS is an ideal setup for a single Betta:
After feeling feisty today, I decided to interact with them to see how they’d respond:
They haven’t responded, which I totally expected. This is just a reminder that pet store corporations don’t give a shit about the animals in their care. Don’t buy Bettas from PetSmart, and if you have, do your research to provide them the proper care they need.
