The Hezhe people 赫哲族 (also known as Nanai 那乃) are one of the smallest recognized minority groups in China composed of around five thousand members. Most live in the Amur Basin, more specifically, around the Heilong 黑龙, Songhua 松花, and Wusuli 乌苏里 rivers. Their wet environment and diet, composed of almost exclusively fish, led them to develop impermeable clothing made out of fish skin. Since they are part of the Tungusic family, their clothing bears resemblance to that of other Tungusic people, including the Jurchen and Manchu.
They were nearly wiped out during the Imperial Japanese invasion of China but, slowly, their numbers have begun to recover. Due to mixing with other ethnic groups who introduced the Hezhen to cloth, the tradition of fish skin clothing is endangered but there are attempts of preserving this heritage.

Hezhen fish skin jacket and pants, Hielongiang, China, mid 20th century. In the latter part of the 20th century only one or two families could still produce clothing like this made of joined pieces of fish skin, which makes even the later pieces extremely rare [image source].

Although Hezhen clothing is characterized by its practicality and ease of movement, it does not mean it’s devoid of complexity. Below are two examples of ornate female Hezhen fishskin robes. Although they may look like leather or cloth at first sight, they’re fully made of different fish skins stitched together. It shows an impressive technical command of the medium.

The Nivkh people of China and Russia also make clothing out of fish skin. Like the Hezhen, they also live in the Amur Basin but they are more concentrated on and nearby to Sakhalin Island in East Siberia.

PSA: fresh spinach is really good!
I don't know why it's taken me so long to figure this out but maybe is because I only ever had it mixed with other leaves when fresh and then cooked or from frozen as an ingredient in other things... But yeah I got two bags of it during my last grocery order (it was on sale and I wanted to make green smoothies with my new blender) and am just adding it to everything! It doesn't have much flavour but it just feels FRESH and CRUNCHY but in a more delicate way than lettuce... You know?

Love the idea of Hector taking in all kinds of strays and orphan children and animals. I have a fun head canon he scares the piss outta adults but every child and animal sees him and is like "Friend Shape!"
I ALSO love that idea!
We need a fanfic blurb of Hector visiting Corona post-series, so Raps and the gang are nervous about him terrorizing the citizens without even trying. And when he doesn't arrive at the castle on time, everyone starts getting REALLY antsy and starts searching the capitol.
Only to find Hector and his animals surrounded by a crowd of children.
He's animatedly telling them all a censored version of one of his daring escapades with Quirin and Adira.
Those 4 girls that braided Rapunzel's hair in the movie? He's braided the hair of the older 3 and is working on the littlest one as he talks.
The bearcats are lounging next to him and letting some of children pet/snuggle them. The rhino is laying nearby asleep, and every few minutes Hector has to herd a smaller group of the kids back to main group because "He's come a long way and he's very tired. You'd be tired after a cross continental trip too, wouldn't ya'? Be nice and don't bother the big guy."
This has been going on long enough that all the parents aren't even batting an eye anymore. They're just hanging around in the square doing their work, not leaving their children completely alone with Hector but not watching him constantly.
When Eugene finally overcomes his shock, he huffs over and demands to know why Hector was so late, why he gave them all a heart attack, bla bla bla. Hector just responds with "Oi, Fishskin, doncha' know it's rude to interrupt someone when their chattin'? I've got important business to attend to, I'll be up to the castle when I'm done."

I manage to move away, for a bit. My skin feels dry out of the water, and I'm drawn back to another pool, in a different place. The moment my belly touches the water, I'm moaning; little glowing eddies drift away from me, and then they're popping out, each one a perfect stretch as I moan, clutching a rock to keep me from sinking.
When the last escapes, my eyes hazy, I can see the first are cracking, perfectly formed merfolk escaping. I feel so proud as they swim away, legs shaking in the water as scales climb up, over my crotch to the base of my belly, shimmering like fishskin.

So I was listening to just the same thing that led my mind to Proto and Ptotagia dancing (strong unresistable Proto mood) and this time it was mermaid Proto. Somewhere covered with muscles, somewhere covered with fishskin. Native muscles are darker, but when fresh new lags are summoned, leg muscles are looking fresher in comparison with body. I believe mermaid’s hair has origin of scales with changed form and structure, so probably might ad some of those too.

Think my main human civilization will use screenfolds, made of I think barkcloth. The fallen evil empire used palm-leaf books, originally having been tropical islanders, but switched to codices (maybe made of fishskin parchment?) because they’re more efficient. The main empire on the other continent use codexes made from a Cyperus sedge that’s more cold tolerant than papyrus but is basically papyrus. And the nomads on that continent use birch bark.
Dwarves use codices of “parchment” but actually made of giant mushroom cuticle, though for archival documents they etch sheetmetal—gold, for particularly important things like treaties. Elves use the silk of their sacred moth (you can use a reed pen if you’re careful—or have a racial Dexterity bonus) or buy mushroom parchment from dwarves, but write important documents like contracts and treaties on the needles of their sacred tree, arranged like Chinese bamboo-slip books. (Their pens are actually also made of the needles, not reeds, too.)
Goblins write on birch bark, and ogres make parchment out of any animal they eat, including people. Morlocks carve in bone slats arranged like the bamboo-slip writing, using an alphabet related to the other human scripts as Moon embossed writing is related to the Roman alphabet.
The spider people paint their writing on silk, and the snake and lizard people write or emboss their writing in parchment—embossing so they can still read it in infrared (which elves and dwarves also often do, so they can read stuff in darkvision, which in my setting is either electrolocation or radar, haven’t decided which, hooked into the optic nerve).
