Hello everyone! Having recently got back to building my Flesh-Eater Courts army, my thoughts have once more drifted towards how that faction might be expanded by Games Workshop in the future. As I am very interested in exploring the themes of 'scavenging ecology' and 'delusional parody' in much greater detail (an idea I hope to eventually write about at length), I've been toying with what other creatures the ghouls and there abhorrent leaders might associate with, particularly as a precedent already exists for this greater emphasis on carrion-beasts in the form of the 'royal menageries' of the ghoul kings, with their Terrorgheists and Zombie Dragons, as well as the giant bats that accompany the Grymwatch Beastgrave warband. With this in mind, I started to consider what scavenging creatures might have been glamoured by the madness of the ghoul kings to serve as battle mounts for their faithful, ghoulish retainers and came up with these hyena-like monstrosities. It seemed fitting to me that the ghouls might feel some strange kinship with these loping scavengers, particularly as wolves have formed such an important aesthetic in the recent Soulblight Gravelords battletome. I've also been looking at some of Games Workshop's older ghoul models and was particularly taken with the miniatures that were first produced for 4th edition Warhammer Fantasy. I think the concept of bigger, beefier, more bipedal ghouls would serve as an excellent starting point from which to design a more elite infantry that would complement the current crypt ghouls kit. Some new sketches I came up with fairly recently after working on models from the Warhammer Beastgrave FEC warband and flicking through the FEC battletome. With the emphasis on carrion-eating and scavenging as major design elements for the FEC, and the presence of large bats in the Beastgrave warband, I cannot help but feel that the concept of 'ecology' deserves to be explored more within the faction's miniatures range. In other words, I would love to see a whole host of grotesque, scavenging creatures, undead or otherwise, as a more active part of the armies of the ghoul kings, particularly as the 'royal menagerie' seems to be such an important part of the cannibal courts. It would certainly give the range greater diversity and would really help to cement the faction's unique identity. What new miniatures would people here like to see for the FEC? I certainly feel that there are certain miniatures, notably the dire wolves and the gorgers, that feel like they fit right at home within the FEC range.
