Christine Perfect McVie’s soulful voice first hit my eardrums via the 1972 Fleetwood Mac album “Bare Trees”...Spare Me A Little (of your love) should have been a single. 

But her voice stood out to me even more when she took a backup role.  The original “Sentimental Lady” is a prime example.  She proved her rock and roll chops on “Homeward Bound”, where she laments the downside of life of a touring musician.

And it has to be noted that the incarnation of FMac that finally broke through with a mega-hit, did so with her song “Over My Head”.  That voice that sounded so familiar, once again front and center.

It’s sad that it’s only after someone dies that some aspect of them is made known, and it makes their passing all the more bittersweet.  She was, evidently the peacemaker/peacekeeper in the band, which makes brilliant sense.

Her piano was never flashy, never out-hand.  It was as part of that formidible rhythm section foundation on the rockin’ tunes, and a gentle co-confessor on the quiet, sweeter songs.

RIP, you earned your ticket Homeward Bound, sweet lady.
