Nashvillains, I have a question about zoning.

I keep seeing bars and venues with like... auxiliary food. Like "oh we don't serve food here, but you can bring food in from" and then one of three options:

1. The food truck in our parking lot that clearly is not driveable anymore

2. The backyard shed attached to one wall which smells amazing but looks like it came from Home Depot in the 80s

3. The grocery store next door that doesn't sell groceries so much as "has a grocery shelf and a massive hot deli counter."

All of this is fun as hell, don't mistake me, but between Springwater with Red's Hot Garden Shed Chicken, No Quarter with Brave Idiot permanently parked out back and ditto Honeytree Meadery with Bad Luck Burgers and Basement East with Chivanada, plus a few get your snacks at this nearby bodega! Brew"pub"s I've had recommended, I'm sensing a pattern.

Is it super hard to get a food license here, or harder for bars, or are there loopholes for "non permanent" kitchens? Or is it just mutually beneficial evolution, like why serve food if a food truck is willing to set up permanent shop, and why roll around if you can make all your bank off the drunk people at this one bar?

The food truck fan in me is curious and the researcher in me is hungry.

Our difficult decision to stop aid comes at a time when hunger in Gaza is rapidly worsening.

Humanitarian operation has become impossible in Gaza due to the ongoing blockade and obstacles by the “Israeli” authorities.

📢 JULY CONTEST: FOOD TRUCKS

Summer is in full swing, which means we spend more time outside the home. Walking around the city, in parks and other places, we often turn to street food. All of these food trucks offer a huge variety to suit all tastes! This is exactly what we will be shoot in July! Build a mobile food vendor from LEGO parts and take photos. Let's exchange our favorite foods and come up with some stories!

And first example for your inspiration: A short evening summer rain slightly cooled the narrow street at sunset somewhere in the historical center of the city. It’s good that the hot dog seller hasn’t started to close down yet and there’s still time to grab a quick bite. His electric cart, surrounded by a fragrant cloud, is always visible from afar. I'd like some beef wurst with mustard, please!

Little Fish Brewing Co., Athens, Ohio

Spotted outside the university medical center yesterday, coming out right before lunchtime. Apparently serving not just fish and chips, but also fish soup and fish tacos.

From their site:

"Fisky Business is exactly what it sounds like. It's fish. And that is our business."

Eating fish off a food truck can certainly involve enough risk. Guess you can't say you weren't warned! At least the hospital is right there.

And someone evidently thought this might be good for marketing. Which is kinda why it even caught my eye--though, maybe not so much in a way that made me want to hang around until they opened. 😅

(Granted, they may have originally just been going for the "fishy" sense. But, pretty much everyone under 70 here is up enough on English that somebody must have noticed that before they had signs made up. Then again, there are plenty of examples around like these.)

Because of my hours, I also work on Swing shift and got a second lunch from the food truck. This time it is a grilled vegan sandwich and a balsamic strawberry salad.
